Ooc: As you know, Aureliano is very busy, so he gave me ze permission to control his character. If you’d like to post, feel free to do so, and if you want to comment, you’re equally welcome.
Yeah, I know you guys are probably getting tired to the drama, but this was necessary…
IC:
The sun was shining at its best, its bright rays shattering rainbows across puddles from previous rain. Sakiko walked through the field, a large smile plastered on her face. She was feeling especially happy, mainly because Zeze had caught a cold, and so she was at home. Another, much bigger reason, was because Aureliano had invited her to a small day-out in the market place. She felt like jumping up and shouting to the world of her fortunes, but of course, she wasn’t so rash.
She found Aureliano leaning against an old tree. Sakiko grinned, and waved slightly, her wrist hanging loosely on her arm. Aureliano smiled back pleasantly, but there was something in his eyes that she couldn’t tell… coldness? She shivered, wondering if his last case of indifference and apathy was coming back – she didn’t like it, especially because she could see him in his shoes.
Sakiko made a move to hug him – something usual and nothing that was extraordinary – but he moved back slightly, raising his arms in front of him. The mage stepped back, a bit confused. However, she wisely chose to ignore it. She said cheerfully,
“Long time no see. How are things?”
Aureliano shrugged, and ran his hand through his hair. Slumping back a bit, he shrugged. Sakiko raised her eyebrows, and put a gentle hand on his shoulder.
“Is anything wrong?”
The young Hylian lifted Sakiko’s hand from his shoulder, holding her hand briefly before letting go. He muttered,
“Your hand…it’s cold.”
Sakiko felt tense. Before, he said nothing of her coldness, and it was somewhat hurtful that he’d say it now. He knew that she was bothered by her inhuman lack of warmth, both physical and emotional. The mage stood awkwardly, not knowing what to do exactly.
“Ummm…so… do you want to walk…or…?”
Aureliano breathed in, turning his head to the side. He rubbed his knuckles together nervously. Goddesses, how was he going to say this? He hadn’t fallen out of love, exactly. No..whenever he saw the pale mage he felt that warmth creeping to his heart. But his reason for doing this was almost unexplainable. They were only going to harm each other, just by staying this way. Couldn’t she see that he would not be able to care for her like another could? He was barely recovering from his tragic discovery about his family line – they both needed a relationship that was give and take… and this, it seemed that he was receiving too much, or maybe that she was getting too much. Either way, it was complicated. But, deep in his heart, he knew he had to end it.
“Sakiko.”
His voice came out crackled, so he cleared his throat. It pained him to see how oblivious Sakiko seemed to all this. The mage smiled hesitantly. “Yes?” The young Hylian grabbed her cold hand, gently rolling her fingers to her palm. He hesitated for a moment, but once he started, he found it easier to keep going. So he didn’t let her interrupt, and kept talking.
“I think I’ll hurt you if I don’t tell you straight and honestly right now. I just wanted to tell you that you’re one of the greatest thing that happened to me, and I really did love you. But… I’ve realized that we can’t do this anymore. It’s not good for either of us. I think you know this too.”
His brown eyes met her gray ones, strong and unwavering. Sakiko felt her face drain of color, and her body seemed to have stopped functioning. She coughed slightly, at denial. He was fine before, so why was he like this now? Did she do anything wrong? Her gaze must’ve been clear, because Aureliano answered,
“It’s not you… it’s the circumstances, and the need we both have, but cannot fulfill by being with each other.”
He dropped her hand gently, silently pitying the shocked mage. He muttered,
“I’ll understand if you don’t want to be friends after this…but I hope you still will.”
Sakiko shook, tears spilling from her eyes. She choked,
“Why? Give me a reason, Aurel…”
“I did.”
“No, that’s not good enough. Tell me something – did I do anything? I promise I won’t be so cold anymore.. you know I’d do anything-“
“The reasons I gave you are the only ones I have.”
Sakiko wiped at her eyes roughly, ashamed at her tears and emotions. She had dealt with other problems before, but she knew that she could fix them. But at this, she was at loss. And the pain. Goddesses, the pain. Aureliano wrapped his arm around her – she knew this would be the last time – and whispered,
“Goodbye, Sakiko.”
The mage spilled silent tears as she watched Aureliano walk away from her, his back illuminated by the still, morning sun. Her knees gave way as she collapsed unto the wet ground, her hands clenched into fists. She wanted to scream, but her throat was too dry, too closed. As she knelt there, she began to feel immense hate flooding her. She was angry – beyond angry. How dare Aureliano leave her like this? After what she had given him? She had trusted him, and now he was leaving her to die. And she began to think of all those who would be pitying her when this piece of news would break, thinking this to be a wonderful piece of gossip.
She hated everything and everyone.
Sakiko stood up slowly, uncertainly, wiping the last of her tears on her sleeve. She began to move her feet, step by step, her walk slow and brooding. This was what she deserved, for giving away her heart and friendship to those around her. And it was time to take it all back. As she began to make her way through the fields, she was determined never to spill a tear for anyone else, nor for herself.
She smiled grimly, wondering if today was the day she died.
