Almost lost amidst the crowd on the street, a disheveled Deku stumbles along the merchant's stalls. He is garbed in a intricately embroidered green robe which would be quite impressive had it not been covered in dust. As he walks his steps are slow and laborious. All of his being, from his oversized feet to the top of his leaf-covered head, radiates exhaustion. It is apparent that this Deku has been on the road for quite some time.

As he looks from stall to stall the expression in his eyes suggests frustration. He reaches into one of the many bags on his belt to produce a pair of green rupees, staring at them thoughtfully. "All of this food," he thinks, "This wonderful selection of fruits and nuts and breads, and not enough for even a morsel."

As he tosses the rupees back in his bag he lets out a barely audible sigh. He has so few possessions remaining, most being spent just getting here. If he was to carry onwards, he needed a way to earn rupees fast.

OOC: This is my first post, and my character's introduction. It may not look like much, but I'm hoping to get ideas as more people come around.

"Awh.. Is something a miss, my little stalk?" Edward's voice said. He had bucked down to the height of the wandering Deku.
"Well.. i see you have some money problems my puppet friend.. what will you say if a fine gentleman like me, would buy you some titbit refreshments?" The man asked with a careful smile."I have enough money in the world... my master's money that is... hehe."

OOC: Welcome Basil!

buy you some titbit refreshments
We're going to a stripclub? :)

To the Hyrule Harlot!

IC: "I share your pain." Saber mumbled under his breath as he heard the Deku's lament. He was staring at a stall himself, and his interest had been caught when he saw the forest inhabitant so far away from his home--it wasn't often that one of his kind was seen in the Castle. Or anywhere, really. He heard a man offer to help the Deku and bit his lip. He remembered that when he had been in the same situation--though admittedly, he hadn't improved much--he had despised receiving charity. He wasn't even sure he was grateful for the help he had been given. Sighing, he turned from the stall and brushed his hair out of his eye, waiting to see how this scene would unfold. Perhaps he would be interested in this Scrub's acquaintance...

OOC: Wow, a Deku...haven't seen one in a long time. Haven't seen one that wrote well in much longer. :D

The Deku turns to the man who had addressed him. He is taken aback by this offer of help, more so by the attitude with which it is presented.

"Puppet... puppet? What manner is this to address a wanderer in his time of need?" The Deku is now hopping up and down in a fit of rage, clearly insulted. "Be fortunate that I do not strike you where you stand!"

He reaches in another bag for a large book, flipping through some slightly charred pages. Again turning to the man, he sighs and shakes his head. He may be rude, but he wasn't worth wasting his breath on. Not that he had the energy to cast a spell anyway. All in all, he did need the help, although he questioned what was meant by "his master's money".

"I suggest you be more careful how you address strangers in the future," The Deku speaks in a much calmer tone as he returns his book. "I suppose I would be willing to accept some refreshments, for now. But I would much prefer knowing how one can earn his own keep around here."

OOC: thanks for joining in, guys.

"Well . . . if you mean a job you could be a mercinary, y'know?" A voice said from the crowd. Out of nowhere, came Denkou, the thief everyone loves (to hate). "Well . . . if it isn't a deku. Y'know, I use your people as firewood." The blond joked, shaking a bottle of sake at the little shrub.

"I suppose if you want to be serious, you could go to an inn and see if someone wants to hire you. This time of year has a lot of open positions."

OOC: I agree. Dekunut12 was the last one, I believe. and he was appaling.

"Why work when you can take advantage of the fortunes of others," a woman replied stepping out from the shadows of a stall. Her head was wrapped in a scarf so only her scarlet eyes were visible. She crossed her arms and looked expectantly at the deku, awaiting a reply.

"owh.. such a stingy attitude, the title of mercenary surely is fitting for you my talking radish." Edward said as he stood up."But you might just end up as dead wood under the fireplace if you talk the wrong way to some people.. gehehehe.." He continued.
He quickly turned around practically ignoring about everyone else of the group.
" I assume you show this vegetable the way around, I have more important matters to attend too....as ussual "

OOC: *sighs*... and they call me perverted....

Saber grinned, more than a little amused at the development of the situation. He certainly seems interesting. He brushed his hair aside again and cleared his throat, he studied the Deku's round nose--such different anatomical structures among the races of Hyrule...

"Well, if you're desperate for some money, you could always come and help me." He sopke up from his position by the stall, his eyes on the Deku only--he seemed to have a lot of spirit for one his size. "My name is Sabertache. I'm the owner and sole employee of the Tantari Mercenary Service. I suppose you...erm, well, you know how to read and write very well?" He said, flushing ever so slightly--he would try to avoid this topic in the future. His education--or lack thereof--was not something he was proud of. "If so, I could definitely use your help."

OOC: Don't feel obliged to or anything, just doing what Saber would do in this situation. I'm not trying to force you to work for me :P

The Deku turned from person to person, wide eyed. Was it really this rare for one of his kind to venture out here? Of course, if not for his... uh... unique situation he probably wouldn't be either.

He addressed the assembly with a bow. "I appreciate all of your concern," he began in the normal high-pitch squeak of his race. "My name is Basil. I have been on the road a long time, and my funds have since dried up, as a flower bereft of rainfall. What I need now is a means to gain new funds, so that I may continue on my way."

He paused, considering his options. Working at an inn probably meant serving drinks and cleaning up, menial work which he could do without. And he knew mercenary business could get pretty dangerous; something he was not well equipped for at the moment.

But reading and writing... that was something he lived for. In fact, the other Deku at home used to get at him for being such a bookworm. This offer by the one called Sabretache seemed most promising.

"You are called Sabretache, correct?" Basil now directly addressed the Hylian. "Need someone who can read and write, you say? Well, I doubt you'd find many who are as well-read as me." He stretched upward as he looked Sabretache in the eye. "What do you need me to do?"
