Poking her head round the side of a building, eyes narrowed, and wary as a mouse, Chisalu watched the festival from the somewhat morose shadows. A celebration that outshone any others that graced this citadel, and Chisalu looked across the stalls with the eye of a practiced, opportunistic and fearful thief. She could see food being sold, which made her mouth gather with drool, and she licked her lips. Swallowed. She could also hear music, and as usual, she wondered if she ought to dance to it. Dancing usually afforded her enough change to purchase items legally.
Chisalu slipped her favourite knife out and examined the blade. When she said it was her favourite, to be honest, her meaning was that it was the current trusted lieutenant. Easily replaced, and often so, but she'd had no luck in replacement, and the blade was dull. Being attacked was not a normal part of Chisa's cautious existence, but the streets were dark at night, and even though the festival was (officially) for the mighty heroes that strolled Hyrule, she hadn't seen many for awhile. Nor had she become the temporary pet of any. Helpless really, was the word.
She needed a new knife, and for that she needed to save, and to do that, she needed to not be wasting her time purchasing food when she could easily snatch it. Her gaze locked in on a nearby food stand, examining the expression of the seller, deciding on the risk and-
Noticing the Giant Cake.
Now, it was very difficult to ignore a giant cake, for a start it is very big. Thus why it is called a GIANT cake. Another reason it is hard to ignore, is because it is famous, that it comes every year, and that everybody knows about it.
So it's that time of year again? Already? Chisalu wondered to herself - time flew by very quickly it seemed, even when she personally thought the days could never quite find it in themselves to get a move on. Retrospect had its way of toying with people. Ah~ But the final reason such a large, and well-known cake is hard to miss is the smell.
Sugar has a beautiful scent to it, one that fills any child with deep, abiding affection, one that attracts anyone, in fact, to it. Chisalu was a child, she was also an 'anyone' and as such, she was keenly drawn to the cake. Perhaps most importantly of all was the fact it seemed to be free. But the line, was long, still that wasn't a problem for Chisalu. She would either happily wait her turn, patient to the last, or, more likely, turn bright hungry eyes upon an attendant, who would give her a particularly big sliver. And first too.
She took one glance at the lady giving out the cake, inspected the sneeze and the additions to the cake, and pulled a face. A particular unhappy face. Whilst a thief, her thinness gave attribute to the sheer finicky, hoarding nature of the young sheikah, and she was not going to be gobbling up, or even nibbling at a diseased slice of cake.
She went round the side; perhaps she could steal a slice? Then she gazed straight up the ladder at Quarter Master Hithos, and decided to try a direct source. The only trouble was that he was up very high, and probably would not see her directly below the cake. She gazed about the place, looked across the seething crowd, and sighed. That wouldn't work, he would just holler at her to check the lady handing them out, even if she cut the line, there was still the issue of the sneeze.
Slipping out her knife, she edged carefully to the cake and cut herself a morsel from it. Darting away as quickly as she could run, clutching the cake to her, the icing making her clothing sticky and messy, until she finally curled into a small corner, looking about carefully, ferally, and warily. Satisfied at her own safety, she licked her fingers and nibbled at the cake. Until she was jostled to the side and her messy, crumbled piece of cake fell to the floor.
Squeaking unhappily, she plucked it up quickly, but there were already bits of dirt stuck into the icing, and grit between some of the crumbs. Staring at the ruined cake, ruminating that this was a ruin of a day, she looked up to see people tucking into their perfectly fine, if sneezed-upon pieces with an intense envy in her eyes. "Aww..."
