There Must Be More

Keychain played with her hair. She still was not use to the short locks falling into her face. They were so short that she couldn't even put them behind her ears. The summer sun beat down on her as she walked under the glare, making her adjust the shirt she wore on her. If anyone knew her well, or seen her around, they would have known that her hair wasn't the only change in her. The baby blue shirt was laced with snowflake patterns. White shorts hung on her hips, a gold cloth belt holding it up around her slim waist. The clothing she currently wore replaced her old dresses. Wearing such clothing made her look more feminine. It was definitely different from the childish dresses she once wore. Her old shoes that didn't show anything were replaced with regular, black sandals.
There was some rustling near by. Keychain stopped in her tracks. A frown was on her face as it stopped. Was it just her imagination? No, it wasn't. There was something there. Maybe even someone. She danced on her toes, staring straight at where she heard the noise. It could have been an animal. Just a regular animal. Maybe a bunny was just passing by.
She hardly believed that.
"Don't you think I'm stupid?" she shouted. Her voice came out louder than what she expected. "I know you're there, come out from your hiding spot." Keychain was silent as she waited. Weaponless, she looked like bait, but fire tickled at her fingertips. Her sharp blue eyes darted around from the bushes to the trees. Maybe they could have made one mistake, and then ran off to another hiding spot.
"Hello?" Keychain questioned. Nervousness clung to her skin. Her hands flexed as she tried to focus on the area. Some more rustling made her jump. Her eyes darted to where it came from. A bunny, a small brown one, bolted out of the bushes and past Keychain like as if she wasn't there. Breathing easily, she muttered, "It's just a bunny. I was scared by a bunny."
But she still wasn't sure.

A rustle of leaves, a flash of movement, and behind Keychain stood Kasei Dornmos Gobi, wearing a brown travelers robe over his normal red clothes. "Hello Keychain." He stated simply. "Why, of all the forest creatures, did you choose to converse with a rabbit?" He asked, stepping around her and looking down to face her.

Her body stiffened before she whipped around to face him. A scowl was on her face shortly before a smile danced on her lips. "Why, Kasei," she began, "I thought that you knew that speaking to animals is now the new sane." Keychain shook her head. "I'm just joking. The rabbit came out of nowhere. It's not like as if I meant to."
She looked at him a bit wearily. "And what are you doing out here? Needed to get away from someone like me? Most likely not, I'm guessing."

Kasei smiled kindly as he took a seat in the grass. "Get away from people? No, that's not quite it. I was simply taking a leisurely walk in the woods when I stumbled upon you conversing with the animals, is that hard to believe?" He asked, grinning. "What's more, why are you here, Keychain?"

"I . . ." Keychain sighed. "Things have been hectic. I don't know what's about this place, but towns aren't my best place to be. Too many people, too many noises. It doesn't help that Aqua has a loud voice." She shook her head. The short locks fell around her face. "I'm still not use to this new look."
"And I was not talking to animals. I was just. . . paranoid." Keychain rested her back on a tree, making sure that her shorts didn't touch the bark at all. Her posture looked awkward and quite uncomfortable.
"I don't like the towns all too much. I think that I might build a house outside, where there are only trees as my neighbors. It would be. . . peaceful." Her eyes watched as another small bunny hopped over her foot that had been sticking out. "I wonder where all the bunnies are coming from. Maybe I scared them from their homes."

"Hmm...so you hate noise, too...that reminds me a lot of someone I knew." Kasei said. In a flash, his hand shot out and grabbed a nearby rabbit and, with the greatest care, brought the terrified creature to sit on his lap, and began gently petting it to try to get it comfortable. "You know, even if you don't like something, with help from friends, you can grow to enjoy it. The city is a place of life and joy, parties and festivals. It has it's downsides, too, but then again, so does everything else." He said, as the rabbit bit him.

Keychain bit her tongue to keep any snippy comments from coming out of her mouth. "You make things sound easier than what they could ever be," commented Keychain. She closed her eyes and sighed. "I'll never be able to live in the city my whole life. It's just not well suited for me."
She stuck her legs out and let her body slip to the ground. A small "umph" came from her mouth. Keychain watched Kasei with her electric blue eyes. "Watch it," she said as he was bit, "their teeth are sharp. My skin was taken clear off one time by one of these little guys."
"I don't like parties," voiced Keychain. "Not the ones with too many people. I can not stand the hot air from everyone breathing. Even if you open a window, things are still all too warm. I can't keep a decent conversation with a person half the time. I stumble over my words. I. . . I just don't do those things."

"That may be," Kasei said, the blood dripping down his arm, "That doesn't mean you can't pretend, after all, that's what i've done for years." He finished, as the rabbit ran off into the thicket.
"Would you prefer the noise of a party, or the roar of battle? If the latter is your choice, then sure, stray from town, where battles are almost too common." The Rebel Flame declared, and pointed in the direction the rabbit ran off in. A wolf was now devouring the helpless critter.

Keychain gasped and covered her face. "How horrible!" she said. But she all knew too well that about the food chain. Keychain lifted her gaze, not even daring to look over at the wolf. She closed her eyes shortly and then opened them to stare at Kasei.
"Battles I'm not very fond of. I'll jump in head first, though. If it's needed," said Keychain. She smiled faintly but it never touched her eyes. Brushing her hair away from her neck, she continued to speak. "A party I will never enjoy. A battle I will never fit in. Maybe I just don't belong anywhere."

"Well first, stop lying." Kasei said. "You do, too, fit in with battles, i've seen it personally." He claimed. "And I know that you have more power than you display. If not, then you would not be of any worth in this story, and I would never have probably met you." He reassured her.

Keychain frowned. "I'm not sure to take that as a compliment or wonder if you're being serious at all." She shook her head lightly. "I don't think that I can even think of fighting. And the times that you've seen--wait, that was one time. That one time was just instinct."
"I'm just a scholar," Keychain said. "It's not like as if I'm a great mage. I'm just someone starting out. It's not like as if over night I'm fantastic at fighting. And by the way, that battle, I had to run from it. I felt so weak and beat up I just had to. It's not like as if I was there the whole time."
