Would it be worth it to buy the Classic NES versions, or should I buy the Legend of Zelda collection on GCN?
I haven't played LoZ in years, and haven't really tried AoL.
Don't buy AoL for GBA, because it follows the original saving rules (ie. Game Over = starting at North Castle), whereas GCN collection has different save system, or so I've heard.
I have LoZ and AoL for GBA. I beat LoZ no problem, but I still haven't gotten past frikkin Death Mountain in AoL, because I can't make it through in the three lives they give you, and I don't want to waste any of the Extra Lives, but rather save them for the Great Palace.
Of course I could grind for xp and level up my skills, but I'm too lazy to play that much for a game I've already beaten YEARS ago.
Conclusion: LoZ is worth it, AoL only if you don't mind the challenge.

For the collection, if you save at any place, you start back at the castle. Annoying as hades too, if you're doing well in a dungeon and think you're going to lose, you can't save or you'll be back out of the dungeon. Dunno if that's the same on the game boy or not.
Yeah I guess AoL is the same no matter where. When ever you die and continue or quit and then reload, no matter where you are, you start back at North Castle. :-\
OK, thanks. The zelda collection has MM too, right?
'Cause if it does, I'll probably get that. Especially if it's cheaper than the two classic NES games.
It has both NES games, OOT, MM, two movies and a demo of WW.
OK, thanks. I'll probably get that one, because I never beat MM. AoL sounds fun, I like a challenge. So, umm, thanks to all who helped, you've convinced me...
Speaking of, I saw a copy of that at EB the other day for $50. I was talking to my friend about what ripoff that way for a game that Nintendo gave out for FREE at one point. Employee overheard, and we got in a fight. :-\
Wow. It's still $50 at EB? I figured they would drop the price after a while. Is it that expensive other places too?
I guess I should check E-Bay, huh? Maybe it'll be cheaper, 'cause $50 is too much.
Bah, I'm not paying 50 bucks for that!!!
I'm so old school, I still have my regular NES and the original Zelda games!
adventures of link was a mistake..plain and simple
no matter which system u buy, saving is the same. and i have not seen the collector's edition anywhere :o but thats just me. i go to eb games alot, but i never see it. :o :o
well when i bought the collectors edition, i was actually hunting for the legend of zelda master quest. so i guess i kinda found it on mistake. the collectors edition is easily found at any store that sells used games. alot of people take it back ::)
i wonder why? i mean, io never had NES or SNES, so the only way i got the original games were by collectors edition. i never had OoT or MM for N64 either (though i had one), so i got those through collector's edition. i played OoT on my cousins N^$ once though. :P
LOL i thing you held down shift at the N^$ part! lmao
lol that was supposed to b N64. whoops! :P

It's
Adventure of Link. He goes on ONE adventure, not many. And the game was never a mistake. They didn't know where to go with the series back then so they tried different things.
And how do you suggest they make such a huge world in the style of the first game with the technology they had back then? It is partly because of the geography of that Hyrule that, in my opinion, the LoZ/AoL era is the most exciting era of Hyrule so far.
And the castle actually have an original name! ;D
Oh, and don't forget that AoL introduced a lot of themes to the series that is now taken for granted.
i think it is worth buying the collector's edition, especially if u never had any of the 4 games like i did. ;D
I actually bought it mainly because of LoZ and especially AoL. ;D
When I had the collector's edition of AoL I couldn't save, but I never played the NES version so I'm not sure if it was a problem. I think the collecor edition is worth it just tobe able to play all of them on one system if you don't have the NES or N64.
Well, because of PH, you can't play all of the Zelda games on the GCN. :'(
No.
I wouldnt buy collectors edition if you havent played the regular one.

Why not? It's not like the original differs much from the Collector's Edition one.
Only except it isn't the same playing it with a GC controller. :-*
I heard at alot of places that AoL is the hardest Zelda game. Is it true?
It is hard because of the awkward RPG element. If they had made TAoL today, it probably would've been much better, but as Evilslayer said above, the technology back then limited then and they were trying to figure out where to take the series.
That is like the one old game I dont have :'(
