Title: A little something to think about
Post by: Hi no Seijin on September 10, 2006, 07:59:24 PM
Let's just see what you think of this little poem, written on the tomb of an Anglican Bishop in Westminster Abby (circa 1100 AD):

QuoteWhen I was young and fee and imagination had no limits,
I dreamed of changing the world.

As I grew older and wiser,
I discovered the world would not change,
So I shortened my sights somewhat and decided
To change my country.
But it too seemed immovable.

As I grew into my twilight years,
In one last desperate attempt,
I settled for changing my family,
Those closest to me, but alas,
They ould have none of it.

And now, as I lie on my deathbed,
I suddenly realise:
If only I had changed myself,
Then by example I might have changed my family,
From their inspiration and encouragement
I would have been able to better my country, and who knows

I may have changed the world.

Kudos to anyone who learns from the realization the bishop had as he was dying.

It's really remarkable how such things that you do to yourself can affect everything else in some large chain reaction like that.

If most everyone would change, the world would most certainly be different!

Magmar, if I could afford it, I'd buy something for you, but take the service of a small unit of my sniper squirrels in congratulations for learning the lesson.

Heh, heh, thanks! ;D

But think about it, guys. If this would happen with everyone, every war in history may never have happened, the 9/11 attacks would probably never have ensued, all slave trades in history would probably never have existed, and so on. If you think about it, it really would cause a chain reaction, and for the better, which is what the world needs.

All things in sorrow are caused by spelt blood.  If there were life, then one must probe on the dark parts of it to make a real understanding...

If such an alternative universe existed... then there would still be sadness... no matter how much people try, there are equal parts of both shadow and light...

There's no such thing as true peace, very sadly...

You're right, darkphantomime, but if more people were willing to change themselves instead of changing everyone else, the world would at least be better off than it is now.
