I don't know what the rupees there are like at all, but I only know it is the name of the Indian currency.

Well, it is highly possible that they were once real rupees instead of paper, since India used to be one big diamond and diamong-like crystal mine.
Again I ask, do they stash them away in rocks and bushes?
The Minish claim they are leaving them for humans to find, but really they're just hiding it for themselves, yet in bad locations.
Their skill of hiding rupees is on par with the "Easter Bunnie's" ability to hide eggs. It's true.
