I could tell you the tale of the many webcomics I read until I eventually discovered this one. However, I'm not going to; too lazy. This particular strip alludes to our favorite princess in the Zelda games, Princess Zelda of OoT. Enjoy.

I think (which is very rare) that the comic refers to SSBM and that the rodent is Pikachu.
Or maybe Hi no Seijin's sniper squirrels?

Yes, I do remember you.
Also, the first link led to a reference to SSBM. The second one lead to a OoT reference. So both Paul and Vaati was a bit incorrect. Paul because he quoted ZV, who was talking about the OoT reference; Vaati because my sniper squirrels don't have two tails nor do they use swords. Plus, Dan Shive, the author of El Goonish Shive (the comics I showed to you), most likely doesn't know I exist.
