Title: Last of Zelda as we know it?
Post by: Red_Fury on January 13, 2007, 05:00:48 AM
Some time ago. In a galaxy not very far away. Iwata , it may have been someone else, said that Twilight Princess would be the last Legend of Zelda in it's current form. (Or words to that effect)

Does it mean they are going to get rid of the old Zelda template of: Collect 3 objects, get Master Sword, collect more objects in order to enter Hyrule Castle which is the final dungeon and defeat Ganondorf. Maybe they will change it to a first person adventure like Elder Scrolls: Oblivion or Dragon Quest: Swords. (I think that Dragon Quest had a name change but it's too long for me to remember.)

What do you think? What about Zelda is becoming stale and what should remain? What for you would make a perfect Zelda game?

For me a game with the scope of TP but with an amount of asides that rivals MM for things to do around the main quest. I also feel that the character of Ganondorf should be explored some more. He can't keep returning and then being sent back to the dark realm and then coming back again without feeling some sort of resentment or anger. Maybe even a sense of misplacement. WW was the height of Ganondorf as a character rather that being 'the evil guy that Link must defeat.' I would like a return to that.

As long as we don't end up with Zelda in Space I'll be happy.

I don't hink thisis the last.

Phantom Hourglass will soon be released.

The series is far too popular for Nintendo to just give up after it's best game in the series so far (TP). They already made alot of money on TP, they're probably already planning something better.

They know that the legend of zelda is gold. They wouldnt get rid of it. and a first person zelda? That would suck. It would be a HUGE mistake on Nintendo's part.

I do remember them saying this, Red; however, this statement was made before the Wii's controller was revealed. I'm pretty sure that's what they were meaning when it was said that Twilight Princess would be the last of the Zeldas in their current form, because at the time they hadn't yet chosen to make a Wii version of TP.

However, I'd really be quite happy if all those things you mentioned were also to change . . .  :) I think the best Zelda game would have:
1) a massive amount of dungeons,
2) enemies and bosses that have the ability to deal more than 1 heart's worth of damage,
3) especially a plethora of side-quests, like you said,
4) a big bad guy that is either a) not related to Ganondorf in any way, shape, or form, or b) was once under Ganon's command, but has since rejected the dark beast's orders. And finally,
5) twists in the storyline that nobody can see coming unless they're using a game guide.

Maybe we have a psychiatric version where you have to help Ganon feel better after his latest defeat...or a Pheonix Wright style, where you have to do lawsuits for several cases, like cuccoo slaughters and entering and breaking(specifically going into thier house and breaking pots)

Who knows right now, of course the game has been in development for a year now so I am sure they have a good idea on how the game will be. But if history teaches us anything it is to expect the unexpected when the new Zelda comes out, look at how different AoL was to LoZ and MM to OoT.

I think I should ask Kabuto, ZV and Wolf Link to reread the first line of my post. I didn't say that they were going to stop Zelda - although I can see how the title could give that impression - just that it was going to change. In what way, as bgrugby has pointed out, we don't know; but it's always fun to speculate.

TP last LoZ game? Nope. There's still PH to be relesed. Besides, something said...

"Link's last adventure on the Gamecube...

Link's first adventure on the Wii..." or something like that. So there's more to come! WHOO HOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is not the last one. Although the rumors are appearing throughout the Zelda world (newer members or old members returing seem to be the ones believing this), it isn't true. There's no purpose for this at all, now. Lock.
