Yes, i understand that, but here is what i need to know:

-What do you need to buy to get Internet on the Wii?
-Where do you buy it?
-How much does it cost?
Title: Re:Wii
Post by: bgrugby on January 13, 2007, 08:44:14 PM
Well you need high speed internet (i.e. DSL or Cable) and also a Wireless router or a Wi-Fi USB connector. You can get either one at any electronics store or big retail stores like Best Buy, Circuit City, Walmart, Radioshack, etc. The Wi-Fi USB connector is about 30 bucks and you can get a Wireless router for anywhere around 30-100 bucks.

Post by: Zelda Veteran on January 13, 2007, 08:49:44 PM
Ok. So you're saying---
-USB Connector & Wireless Router
-Circuit City
-I could spend a total of 60 bucks if I go the cheapest route.
Title: Re:Wii
Post by: bgrugby on January 13, 2007, 08:54:56 PM
No no no

- USB Connector OR Wireless Router. The difference is a Wireless router is a seperate device that you plug your ethernet cable into and then take an ethernet cable from the router to your main computer. The USB connector is a USB device that you plug into a USB drive on your computer for Wi-Fi access on your Wii and/or DS
- Circuit City, or any of the stores I have mentioned
- 30 bucks at the cheapest (unless you can find a router on sale).

I'll have to ask my dad how to hook that all up. You could have spoken Arabic right now, and I wouldnt have understood any better. ;D Anyways, the information you supplied is more than enough. Thanks, I'll be out hunting for it tomorrow! Thanks.

edit: My dad says he already has one :o He said he would help me hook it up tomorrow.

Hold on.  I need a USB connector for my DS?
Title: Re:Wii
Post by: bgrugby on January 13, 2007, 09:10:56 PM
No you do not need a USB connector if you have a DS, if you already have a wireless router there is no need. Nintendo made the Wi-Fi USB connector so that people would not have to buy a router to play the DS or Wii on Wi-Fi and have to deal with hooking up a router. With the USB connector all you have to do is plug it into a USB slot on your computer and that is about it (besides some easy setup).

Also, ZV if your dad already has a wireless router hooked up then there is nothing else you have to do with the Wii. Of course if it is not hooked up you have to hook it up but once it is working all you have to do is connect to the internet on the Wii and that is it.

Okay, so I'm pretty sure I don't have a router, and it seems to me that getting the USB connector is going to be cheaper and less of a hassle for me to set up.  Now then, since I'm somewhat of a techno idiot, let me see if I got this right.  I can get the Wi-Fi USB connector and plug it into my laptop.  From there, after some easy setup, I should be able to play, say, Tetris DS with people from around the world.  Is that correct?

Post by: bgrugby on January 13, 2007, 09:23:26 PM
Well let me ask this, is your laptop wireless, as in can you use the internet without a cord plugged in or does it only work if you have a cord in it?

I can access the school's wireless network, but I think I can only get to it on the campus where my classes are.  I use an ethernet cable in my dorm, which is on the medical campus.
Title: Re:Wii
Post by: bgrugby on January 13, 2007, 09:39:37 PM
Ok well that doesn't help but yes if you get a Nintendo Wi-Fi USB connecter all you have to do is connect it into a USB port on your labtop as long as you are connected to a high speed internet. It does not take much installation and it will allow you to use the Wii/DS to play online.

If your Wii is hooked up to the internet already just go to the shop channel and download the free trial, tdc is kinda messed up on it tho

This has nothing to do with the Internet free trial (which is a waste anyays and I will not pay for it when it comes out since my computer is next to my TV) this is about those trying to figure out how to connect their Wii's or DS's to the Internet.

You'll get one soon Wolf Link :D Just keep praying that the opertunity shows itself! I cant exactly say I've been in your situation, because i got the Gamecube opening day too. I wish I could help you. If I had a job, I could send you money, and help you save up, but alas, I'm broke. :'(

Post by: JDog on January 14, 2007, 08:16:01 AM
If I had a job, which I don't have time for, I'd save up for a Wii, and go looking for one, its not really the fact that we don't have money for one, its the fact that we can't find one, and on ebay, they are way to pricey.

NNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! Why so long? That is not fair, the people love them, so you'd think they'd sell more a little sooner than march... and to top it off, they quit making gamecube games, so what am I suppose to do with my gamecube, the only good game I got for it is twilight princess, I want some new games, but they don't sell them anymore. >:(

Well if you really want one you can get one on ebay, I saw one being sold for 400 dollars that includes Zelda and Madden 07 as well as an extra controller (which comes close to being how much you would spend in the store for all that)

Methinks you should learn some economics.  Like supply and demand.  Also, calm down before you blow out your spleen.  Some things are going to be out of your control, so there's no point in getting really angry about it.

Great news for all those with a Wii and internet access. I was a little more then shocked when I went onto the Wii Shop Channel cause it is updated every Monday 9 am PST. I thought I knew what three games would be new (3 Sega games) but I was shocked what I found. The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past!!! 800 Wii Points later I am playing one of the greatest games ever made. So those with the Wii and internet access, rejoice. Those without a Wii just another reason to want it even more now  ;D

what is the average dollar-to point transfer, or how much does it cost for a few hundred points?
Title: Re:Wii
Post by: bgrugby on January 22, 2007, 05:32:38 PM
100 points = 1 US Dollar
500 points = NES games
600 points = Sega Genesis and Turbo Grafix 16 games
800 points = SNES games
1000 points = N64 games.

However, I would also prefer if they had Majora's Mask too. That game was one of my favorite. :)

The 3D games will take longer, seeing as how they are bigger and more complex, they will be harder to reformat and such.
