Title: Pokemon?
Post by: JDog on January 17, 2007, 03:19:31 PM
Anyone here play pokemon? I hate the gamecube games, I love the ones for the GBC(which are, blue version, red version, yellow version, gold and silver version), and the GBA versions, which the ones I have are Ruby and safire(spelled wrong). What games have you played of pokemon?

For a fad with a pretty crappy show it sure had excellent games.

I've played: Blue, Yellow, Silver, and Sapphire.

Yeah, I hated the pokemon show, it was rather dumb, but like you said, the games were awesome. Pokemon stadium one and two were awesome, then it pretty much went down hill after the gamecube game was released, those sucked.

I had the old red version, but it sort of disappeared on me; I don't really don't know what happened to it, but whatever did happen it happened to my first GBA SP also.  I think I may go back to EB Games one of these days and get the old Blue version, or just get one of the newer versions.

Blue in america = Green in japan. Does that clear up anything?

Actually, the guys over in japan had a lot of colors, even blue. But blue featured rare pokemon, so america recieved a mix of the rare pokemon from blue plus the respective exclusives of Green and Red.

My favorite game was the Silver version. That was totally awesome, the way we could revisit the Kanto region like that part we had in Y/B/R. Lots and lots of nostalgia felt when I first went through Silver, especially seeing Dragonmaster Lance.

Pokemon stadium 2 had a LOT of strategy involved, more so than meets the eye. And with the Crystal version and the Battle Tower... Quite something indeed.

But Ruby didn't have as much the spark of the older games, and I've totally lost interest in catching millions of pokemon. I have more important things to do, like oh, say... NOT FAIL SCHOOL!

I have been told that if a Pokemon "wasn't in Red version, it's not worth using!". Wise words.

I thoroughly enjoy handheld Pokemon games, and I'm probably going to pick up a copy of either Diamond or Pearl in April. I should probably pick up a copy of Fire Red sometime...

I remember someone trading me a Mew way back when. Does anyone remember how you got one of those?

Here's what MagmarFire told me quite a while back (Note:  He had it in a quote box also):

QuoteDo not fight the gambler facing the house in between Lavender Town and Saffron City. Go to the door of the house and save your game. (You cannot save your game once you have started this or else it will undo the glitch that will give you Mew.) Step towards the gambler and immediatly press start. If done correctly you will bring up the start menu before the gambler sees you. Go to your flying pokemon and fly to Cerulean City. The gambler will then see you but you will fly away. (Your Start, A, and B buttons will not work during this point.) Walk up Nugget Bridge and then go to the 5th trainer after Nugget Bridge. (He will be facing up.) He is a youngster with a slowpoke. Defeat his slowpoke, and then your Start, A, and B buttons will function again. Fly back to Lavender Town and walk towards Saffron City. Your menu should pop up by itself. Hit B to exit it, and then you will enter a battle with a Mew, where you can try to capture it.

It almost sounds fake... but... was it even possible to get the FLY HM at that point?

I don't think so.  That's just what MagmarFire gave me.  But there's always Game FAQ, right?

I just looked on wikipedia, it sounds that it was in fact, possible to do this in R/B/Y.

It was dubbed the 'mew glitch', It's been up there for a while, it even explains how the glitch works and why it happens.

Good ol' Pokemon. I used to love it as a kid, and i had 149 pokemon. Never could get 150.  :'(

I don't like the new Pokemon though. They look weird and it strays way to far from the original 150.

I play it all the time. Crystal was my very first game I ever got. But I happen to like the new versions, especially for the GCN. And Masterkey, it's called moving on. Some poeple want change, some poeple don't. That's why I got so mad when they released the Wii.
If you put me and my sister together though, we have all the games that ever came out. Heh heh!  :)

I play the handhelds in my spare time.  I really haven't devoted much time to them lately.  Also, the new Diamond and Pearl versions feature 450+ Pokemon.

Tv-show: The first two seasons were awesome. I rarely see a story about the "champion individual" that actually also clearly shows there's more going on than what he sees/meets. The crystal Onix, that giant Dragonite...he never got to know where those two came from or what caused their odd appearance. He never even got to see the Dragonite properly! It were the kind of secrets the show left for other characters, characters we never see, than Ash to discover. Or one of the earliest episodes in which he saw Ho-oh, when Ho-oh was not part of the official pokemon yet. I'll never forget what the pokedex said; that there are still pokemon to be discovered. Or that little message Gary left behind for Ash. The first movie was perfect. Its references to the series and the references in the series to the movie made it feel like it all was part of eachother. You know, the first seasons really showed a world that contained more than the things Ash saw. It was awesome. However, starting the third season, the show has become unrealistic and annoying.

Game: I love the pokemon games. I'm still waiting for a proper MMORPG version, but until that day, the handheld games are fine. The console games are less impressive, but they're nice too. I just wish they'd try to make the story bigger, the adventure longer (more sidequests please!), improved the battles etc. instead of coming up with new pokemon that appear to have worse designs every new generation. The third generation was still pretty cool, but 3/4th of the fourth generation just makes me feel sick. Most designs are awful and the new pokemon often have a "been there, done that" feel.

Just a quick question....in the gold and silver versions, did anyone ever catch the 3 legendary dogs? I never could catch any. :'(

I was able to catch them, it may be a bit tricky, but have a pokemon that's level 39 at the top of the party and use repel, and keep going in and out of the areas. Eventually, one of those guys will pop up. It's how I caught mine.

I haven't been able to catch any Legendary Dogs yet. It's been a while since I tried, actually. I'll need to revamp my strategy to do it. ...I guess that involves a strategy. :P

Anyway, as you can tell by my username, I quite like Pokemon. I remember playing a game and getting into it right away. Man, those were the days... (Don't get me wrong. I still like the games. I just haven't gone around to playing mine lately.) :)

It takes much effort and patience to get the legendary dogs, but believe me, its totally worth it. My favorite one was Raikou; the dog of thunder.

It just takes a fair bit of patience, luck, and skill.

On crystal you get a free shot at Suicune, but on Gold I caught Raikou. what sucks is that Entei is my favorite... but yes mean look is a must have move.
