Title: school dances
Post by: DW on January 22, 2007, 04:59:52 PM
Just wondering. I have had really bad experiences with the three dances we have had so far. At homecoming my girlfriend and best friend got at each other's throats, at Fall Tolo my ex was a complete...you know what...and at Winter Bal I didn't go because I couldn't get a date. I was going to ask an old friend of mine who is having a really hard time, her parents are divorcing and such, and she doesn't have many friends, so I figured I would cheer her up. Problem is we had all those snow days, and then two half days before the dance, so I never found her. I sent her dad an email but he didn't respond, so come dance time I just wondered how good of a time all my friends were having :'(

Who is to say that you shouldn't go to a dance if you don't have a date? Listen here: I went to all of my school dances so far without dates (much to my dislike, of course). It's kind of a trade, really; you can go to the dance with a date and know that someone actually took the time to spend time with you...or you can go to the dance alone and get all the ladies that you want! :D

That doesn't work for me. I even tried Tag. Rip off, I oughta sue them for false advertising. All my clothes are still intact.

I'm not gonna ask... ???

Still, they're just dances. The point of dances is to DANCE. Slow dancing is not all of a dance...but don't get me wrong: I DO wish that slow dancing was! :P

Post by: DW on January 22, 2007, 05:14:45 PM
I like to slow dance mostly, grinding I do not find fun. unfortunately you get maybe five slow dances a night.

have you not seen the Tag commercials?

My thing against dances is loud music and large crowds.  I like neither.
Title: Re:school dances
Post by: DW on January 22, 2007, 05:22:08 PM
True, I don't like most of the music they play. and The people all clod together and you can't see anyone, plus if you are stuck inside you're screwed.

However, when I take a date to a dance I just try to please her, it's not really about if I like it or not. Then again I've had a total of one girlfriend for two weeks who didn't even like me but wanted to use me, so what does that tell you 8)

All of my school dances turn out to be rap-fests.  I hate rap.
Title: Re:school dances
Post by: DW on January 22, 2007, 05:50:29 PM
we get all the sex-talk laden rap and hip-hop. I don't like the Black Eyed Peas, they need to play some actual dancing music....they surprised me at homecoming by playing Twist and Shout, I love that song, of course nobody else knew what it was though.

Sometimes, If I have nothing more to do and there is a dance, I'll go to it, just for the heck of it.

Well I can't really vote since the only time I go to a school dance is to supervise it. But back when I was in school I used to go to a few dances, and I got into some trouble at one dance hehe  8)

Title: Re:school dances
Post by: bgrugby on January 22, 2007, 11:02:10 PM
Well my friend I have had quite a few run ins with the law, nothing serious to prevent me from being a teacher, mostly stuff that was illegal at the time of my age  ;D.

Title: Re:school dances
Post by: bgrugby on January 22, 2007, 11:04:38 PM
I thought I made it obvious but, drinking. And the cop that busted me at the dance, before I called him a !@$%^$ pig and boosted about how my brother had "relations" with his girlfriend. So I was in trouble from the beginning.
Title: Re:school dances
Post by: DW on January 22, 2007, 11:07:00 PM
Oh wow....that's asking for it. Still, like you said, nothing huge. The closest I came to being in trouble with the law was when we had an airsoft war at the school. Some people across the street thought we were shooting real guns at each other and called the cops. They just checked our guns and left. So yeah.

So what would you vote on the dance poll?(we kinda need to get back on topic)
Title: Re:school dances
Post by: bgrugby on January 22, 2007, 11:10:13 PM
Well I only went depending on the girl I got to go with me, so I voted "I go but I really don't like it" because the real fun is after the dance.

Title: Re:school dances
Post by: bgrugby on January 22, 2007, 11:24:33 PM
Well here is the way to look at it. I do not remember the exact number but the majority of people that get married met in college. Now do you want to be it from a one night stand or an actual, meaningful relationship? Trust me there are plenty of girls who would go for the latter more then the former.
Title: Re:school dances
Post by: DW on January 22, 2007, 11:48:55 PM
I know. I'm not wanting a one night stand anyways. It just sickens me how it's the guys that treat girls like crap and use them that the girls always want to go out with.

What was the favorite dance you went to? I kind of liked homecoming, it was full of spirit and everything.

Our school dances always end up sucking so I don't go anymore. I always have to choose between going with some of my loser stalkers, my fear of crowds, my hate of dancing vs. playing video games and doing what the heck I want. Hmmmm.... I wonder which one I go with now?

Post by: alical on January 24, 2007, 11:40:43 AM
In England we don't have proper "dances" which sucks.
On the odd occasion there is a school disco but thats not a dance. You don't go with a partner and the music is awful. But they are still fun and youget to dance with whoever you like! Sadly our last one was two years ago and there hasn't been anything interesting for our yeaqr apart from the odd night when our school books the local pool for us Year 9s to go to.
The only proper dance is when you are in the upper 6th (age 17/18) and we have a summer ball, which is a proper formal thing.

Title: Re:school dances
Post by: collaboration on January 25, 2007, 07:54:06 PM
I never went to any dances or the prom when I was in highschool. I hate getting stuck in a room with a bunch of people I hate and having to wear a formal or semi-formal gown, on top of it. Besides, the only dancing I'd ever want to do would be like...Fred Astaire-Ginger Rogers type ballroom dancing. :D So cool. I mean, who wouldn't choreographically skate around a rink while belting "Let's Call the Whole Thing Off"?
And you just didn't get that level of awesome with the bunch of humourless jerkfaces that constituted school dances at my previous highschool.
Um, plus my boyfriend was one of those same humourless jerkfaces. Boo, I lose.

Title: Re:school dances
Post by: DW on January 26, 2007, 08:53:37 AM
that's why I went to the first dance...there wasn't even any food! The most food I've seen at a dance was bottled water and mints. I felt gipped...and since noone danced with me I just kinda found a nice corner and fell asleep after a while...missed the bus though...

I hate school dances. I prefer staying home with my video games. I went to one, and it sucked. I went by myself; I refuse to date anyone. (don't need the extra stress).

plus, Video games don't nag you no matter how much you yell and complain at them. Unless you are playing OoT and you ahve Navi...seriously though, you should get out and do some things, there are things better than video games. I agree with datin not being worth it though, the only girlfriend I've had was horrible to me, then a girl said she liked me and was just using me to break up with her boyfriend she forgot she had, so...

If this isn't part of the topic don't answer this:
This guy (IT IS GUY, Shikamaru) asked me and I don't want to reject him 'cause he's a good friend, but I don't like him that way  :'(. HELP!

Well, if dances aren't your thing, just tell him so.  An apology at the same time probably wouldn't hurt.  But then, I wouldn't know.  I never asked a girl out before.
