Which character you use when playing Super Smash Bros Melee? I use to play with Roy.
My best charcter (since I played the heck out of the N64 version) is by far Pikachu. I kick BUTT with him. My other best ones are Zelda/Sheik and Link (no suprise there). I also enjoy using the Ice Climbers and Jigglypuff (if you know how to use them to your advantage :P :))
I think we have a topic for this guys. Maybe we should continue using that one.
Zelda/Shiek. And Peach. :D

I think we do.
Opps. Forgot about that ;)
That topic is buried under miles of spam, I venture anyone to take a journey to the center of the earth to retrieve it, but I'm too lazy.
Captain falcon FTW!
Link all the way, baby! :D
I may try to master other characters, but I generally use (and kick butt with) Link. :D
I like Link the best. :D
Young link, all the way. Not only is he powerful, he's fast. i'll pwn you all! ;)
We have many SSBM topics. Let it be.
Maybe we should make a section for non-zelda games that feature Link, so all these dang SSBM topics stop invading the GD.
So I guess that would include Soul Calibur 2, Smash series, and CD-I games, may they burn where they are.
lol, yea it would include all of them, including the cursed CD-Is.
And i guess it c ould include other games, like mario or kirby or something.....but we're getting off topic, you can PM if you want GF.
Zelda/Sheik or Samus
I'm working on getting good with Sheik, but my recovery sucks and I have to think about what I'm going to do sometime. Which is why I suck at recovery. I have to think about it. And I have a bad tendency to press forward B when I want up B.
In my opinion link is the best character because simply it can do everything. If you throw a shadow ball or other long distance attacks the 80% of the time they are blocking without pressing any button because link has the hylian shield, also he has long and short distance attacks, both very powerful and the thing I believe it's kind of cheat is when you use z it sends hookshot and grabs the opponent but if you are falling you can use the hookshoot to attach to the scenary and go over it again.
yes, I use the hookshot all the time, sometimes I mess up though. It's good because noone can hit you off like if you cliffhanged.
I am really good with Link, Fox, and Marth. I am fairly good with Zelda/shiek, roy, Mewtwo, and a lot of other people I am okay with.
I generally use Samus, Link, or Fox McCloud.
Sometimes I'll use Mewtwo or Bowser, but generally I take names with the above three. :)
Favorite Character: I can destroy virtually anyone with Falco. I dare anyone in the video game world to take me on. When Brawl comes out, and i get good at that, you will all surrender to me. lol! And Im good with every single character except peach. I know all of their moves, and status's, so it's easy to win.
Favorite Opponent: Bowser. He's slow, and fun to toy with. He has terrible A.I. and he's hilarious to knock around the course. I often can take out two level 9 bowsers without losing a single life.
Favorite Weapon: Star-Rod. I love the Star-Rod. A well timed smash attack with it will deal a whopping 30 dmg. It shoots stars, and you can tear at the enemy's HP with it. Lure the enemy to an edge, and throw the star rod at them. A connected hit will send them soaring back, and at a downward angle. Their chances of survival are crushed.
Favorite Level: I like a lot of room to move around. I like the Hyrule Temple arena. Its large, and provides four distinct areas to duke it out.
yes Hyrule temple is great. we always go there with the four swordsman and have swordfights, and deathmatches on that small floating platform at the bottom.
Hyrule Temple is great becuase it gives you a distance advantage. You don't need to be crammed in together; rather, you can spread out an focus on an individual foe.
That's the reason I love that place, gives me room.
I did a full 999 damage once with Sheik's whip. It was the perfect setup.
how much damage can the whip give the homerun bag? That may be a good combo....
It took a few minutes. I just managed to launch him and keep him within the range of my whip.
My friend told me never to use Sheik's chain unless I'm preventing Marth from recovering. And yes, I am going to listen to him over any of you.
Heh heh. I did use his chain to stop Marth from recovering. My friends' reactions were funny. :D
Marth is a terrible character, all he has is like 3 stupid moves. I kick his butt constantly as Link.
Ganondorf and Samus. I'm fairly decent as Ganondorf, but I haven't played Super Smash Bros. Melee in forever.
Ice Climbers. Great jugglers, and just plain fun to play as.
I pray they return for Brawl.
Wow, I was just playing this earlier today.
I use Mario or Dr. Mario, Link, Ganondorf, and Roy or Marth.

Marth is a good character when used properly. Like when I use him for instance. I'll bet I could kick your Link's butt with my Marth. I've won countless tournaments with both of them. Marth isn't all about doing large damage, he is used for stringing together combos, at least that's how I use him and it works. he's good for crowds.
The very tip of Marth's sword does the most damage. If you know how to keep the right distance from the opponent, and string together combos, you can ring up 70% DMG in no time at all.
yep, and that's why I like him. Not to mention he can counter attacks that would have killed him. Hammers are useless against me when I'm him.
Marth always struck me as identical to Roy, like Link is to Young Link? Am I right?
I use Link, Ganondorf, Roy and Mario.
I am the Combo King with Link... :) ::)
Oh please, I'd take you down anyday. ;D
I also like to dapple with Fox....he has some sly moves.
fox is my third best. and Marth is the original, to make Roy they beefed up the power, altered a few moves and made him slower.

Heh, Wolf Link and I refer to the Star Rod as "Chives," lovingly named after the name that Drake gave Josh in that one
Drake and Josh episode. Don't ask why. :P
As good as that sounds, I cannot pull it off. I'm not that lame; it's just that my friends don't play with items such as the Star Rod or Heart Containers.
Me and my friends use to play in final destination and without items to show our real skills. Also we should wait until brawl is released to play if it has the feature to play online
yes, I love no-item fights. I also love swordfights with the four swordsman and the beam swords.
Top 3 characters:
Samus
Link
Fox
Favorite items:
Beam Sword
Poke Ball
Mr. Saturn
I like the star rod too, but doesnt ANYONE like the umbrella? Not only did it have the capability to let you float like a apckage of death, it was just cool looking and could muster up quite some damage. ;D :P

Not until I saw the Rurouni Kenshin episode where he fights with a Parasol. Since then, whenever one floats down and I'm a swordsman, I grab it and get stylish!
Somebody undertsnad me!! ;D
I'm not even joking, I really do like using the umbrella...
Well, the parasol is my sister's favorite weapon. And there are dual characters, like:
Marth/Roy
Mario/Dr.Mario
Captain Falcon/Ganondorf
Fox/Falco
Pikachu/Pichu
Link/Young Link
It's actually a little annoying sometimes. I'm better with Ganondorf than Captain Falcon, so I guess there is a little difference.
Quote from: Zelda Veteran on February 07, 2007, 02:57:29 PM
Marth/Roy
Mario/Dr.Mario
Captain Falcon/Ganondorf
Fox/Falco
Pikachu/Pichu
Link/Young Link
Differences:
Marth is a more agile, combo fighter, while Roy is a slower, strongman.
Mario is a bit slower than Doc, but does more damage.
Ganondorf is a friggin' tank, Captain Falcon is a bullet. There's nothing similar about these two except their movesets.
Fox is a bit stronger, Falco jump higher. Fox is a land fighter, Falco is an aerial master.
Pikachu is strong and fairly fast, Pichu is a weak bullet. The little guy rocks at Hit and Run.
Link is a tank, Young Link is faster. Big difference in play styles.
I would hardly call Link a "tank."
I know the differences ::) I was just talking about character style clones.

He's slow and powerful, the definition of tank in fighting games. And I just wanted people who think they're all the same to know the differences.
For example, young Link is less power but much faster. I personally think Youing Link is better, the speed gives him an edge.
I prefer Link, I like the extra reach and damage. young Link isn't fast enough to make much of a difference for me.
I am partial to Link as I used him the most, but I also love using Ness since Earthbound was one of the greatest RPGs ever made...RELEASE IT ON WII VC NINTENDO!!!
they will, just give them time. I wanna get it too, I've never played but I've heard it's so good...
They probably will but it may take time, it is a shame really Earthbound rates right up there with Final Fantasy VI, Dragon Quest III, and Chrono Trigger as the greatest RPG ever.
I think VII was the best FF, how good was VI? and Dragon quests are great yes...
Sigh...this is I guess my purpose of being the "old man" on here. FFVII, is the most popular and yes it is a great game, but it is NOTHING compared to FFI-FFVI. FFVI is the best FF game as it involves about 12 different characters with different abilities and has the best storylines of all, and no teenage angst characters (or as I guess they are called now "emos" like Cloud). Pick it up on GBA, it was just released as the last game to be released on GBA...a fitting end.
Speaking of FF, how cool would a FF be in melle? That would just rock, guys ;D
Viera assassin coming up behind you to Rockseal you. Or casting Ultima Masher. And she also has Return Fire, but it's an automatic thing, so Link's arrows are useless against her. I'd play as her. :D

Yeah there would be some cool characters I would like to see in it from FFI-FFVI but I would really like some of the enemies in it, like a Cactuar, Tonberry, or Gilgamesh.
Gilgamesh using Excalipoor.
tonberries and cactuars would be awesome, they are well known enemies. what about Red XIII?
Oh, goddesses, tonberries would rape. I send my major magical damage dealers after them in FFTA.
What about the moogle in SSB? He would own you all! :)
oh geez...it would probably be Ice Climber clone-ish with two of them or something.
The only moogle I like is Lini, especially now that he's a gunner. It's just a shame that I don't use him too often. I prefer to bring him in when I start on the same height or higher of the opponents, but that rarely ever happens.
I have no idea what you just said, but based on that, it seems you have a hard time fighting with the moogle.
Actually, I just hate fighting them. Stupid jugglers. Stupid animists. As for gadgeteers, I don't like the randomness behind their attacks. And I swear, Montblanc slowed me down. The only moogle jobs I like are thief, gunner, and Mog Knight. I have two human thieves, so I'm good there, and Lini is my Mog Knight/Gunner.
Main Character: Paladin, Abilities: Chivalry, Double Sword. Weapons: Excalibur 2 and Nagrarok.

Don't count on that since Red XIII was from Final Fantasy VII which was released on PSOne.
Yes, but Final Fantasy VI was released for the PS1 and it's being remade on the GBA.

But it was also originally a SNES game when it came out on the SNES as Final Fantasy III. I really hope that SE will re-release Final Fantasy games after FFVI on the Wii or DS.
well they are making new fantasies for the DS and Wii I think. Big loss for Sony right there.

Sigh, they haven't made anything new for DS, FFIII was just never released in America and was updated for the DS. As for the Wii, yes we get another Crystal Chronicles game...yippie the cousin to the step-child of Final Fantasy games...meaning they are not REAL Final Fantasy games.
I will be shocked if the Wii ever gets a REAL Final Fantasy game, one that has a number after it.
Wait, wasnt this about Melee? :-X
And I'm trying to earn Mr.Game&Watch again. My file was erased a long time ago, and I just earned mewtwo again. (I wasnt bothering with earning characters, and I played enough VS matches to get mewtwo). I figured "Meh, what the heck" and decided to re-earn the little stick man.
Final Fantsay XII: Revenant Wings and Final Fantasy Tactics Advance 2(Probably called Final Fantasy Tactics DS) have been confirmed for release on the DS.
A second FFTA? Woot! :D
It's going to have Viera that can be assassins, right?
My efforts to get you guys back on topic were so easily negated. 8)
yes, the new FFs I heard about, not the remakes. I read about it in Game Informer. My sister got me a subscription for Christmas.
This isnt funny guys, really, you need to make a FF topic. ???
Sorry, ZV. ;)
So, yeah, I'm not all that good at Melee. My friends usually school me when I play against them.
Try practice mode, the computer is stand still, you can practice with everyhting, and you can set the way the act.
yeah, one of the best things to do is practice every move on the computer and find out which attacks will do the most or can be used to make a combo.
Exaclty. Not only that, you can choose from anybody in practice, so it doesn't matter who you are trying to kill, you can practice on whoever you like!
Quote from: Shikamaru Nara on February 10, 2007, 02:05:02 PM

Eh, I already had my friend tell me which moves are Sheik's best moves. And the computer standing still isn't really going to help me. If I want to get good, I have to play against level 9 characters. If the computer player just stood still, then I would be able to think about what I'm going to do, and that's my problem. I think when I should do. That, and recovery from the ledge. If I'm holding it, I can usually get back on if no one's there to knock me back down, but I don't use the proper down, jump, forward attack like I should be doing.
So, in that case, practice against your frineds, or make the computer move....
Correct me if im wring, but can't you set how hard the computer is in practice?
I don't remember. I didn't play any Smash this weekend.
Go find that out for me, because know I'm curious to know.
It may take a week if I do it. At the very least. It could take longer. ;)
Oh, fine, I'll wait for someone else to find out, I't to lazy to go find out. ;)
you can choose whether we walks, runs, dodges, or attacks back, yes.
The CPU can be set 1-9 9 being the hardest level CPU.
And there we have it :). You can also choose which weapons fall, right?
I never realized how good the practice mode in SSBM was...
I'm sure that if I were to drop an item in practice mode, my friend would beat me horribly. He likes items, but he prefers Smash to be about the player's skill.
I agree. Whatever style you like, you can practice it in the practice mode.
I especially like the fact you can choose were you want to battle. Can be muy helpful later on.
yes, but it is also good to train with items, if only to practice throwing them as distractions while you close in, one of my cousin's favorite tactics. The practice mode is probably one of the best-developed parts of the game.
1. Controlling what items fall is an earnable feature.
2. I train on Lighting Melee mode so as to strengthen my Hand-eye coordination.
no you don't have to earn the items in practice. if you mean item select for matches, then yes that is earnable. and lightning melee is fun, though I prefer slow-mo. Lets me do my Matrix air dodges and such perfectly.
slow mode is really fun with matrix and all that and lighting melee is also fun but is really hard to control characters and hit as you want.
that's what makes it awesome is you use the fast melee characters with no items, like Fox,Falco, and Captain Falcon, then it's like a Jackie Chan fight.
I like Super Sudden Death..it's so action packed... and I always win ;)
I'm not really good at supper sudden death, I think is because Roy has no long distance attacks. A powerful character for these fights is link with his arrows and powerful sword.
more like Captain Falcon with his uppercut and kick and dive...
Oh, come one, pretty much everyone is good in SSD. All you need to do is go up to the foe and press A.
I like to run around and see how long I can last, maybe even win.
But avoiding bombs is quite hard after sometime, a day I was playing SSD with a friend and I hit him and he started flying but it took slowly to die and I thought I won but a bomb fall and I lost :'(
yeah I hate those unexpected bombs. and they only come faster as time goes on.
yeah, thats happened one to many times to me before, lol.
I lost a tournament to that before, not fun...
Speaking of tournament mode, i don't like the way they have it set up in SSBM. It's to boring, they need to think of a way to make the tourneys more fun.
have card girls in between rounds like in wrestling ;D
And who would the card girl be? Peach? I dont think so...I think I'd lose my lunch... :-*
Samus, perhaps?
All right! You've won me over! ;)
lol, we are nasty boys...we could have taken that so much farther though, but it's not right...
I'm just glad you didn't say like some Victoria Secret model!! I have to agree on the tournament thing. They do get boring. :D
my cousin likes to do them constantly though...and we would have to keep the card girls within the series to be fair...then again it would be interesting fighting as a model :-[
Until you get hit, they would have no body armor. :P
Hello, extra-reinforced lingerie...
:P They didnt come out with that in Victoria's Secret yet :P
how would you know? Remember, it is called Victoria's SECRET. So her secret can't be any of the stuff she's shown us because then it wouldn't be secret. She probably has some lab where she makes lacy battle armor and stuff.
Haha!!!!!
That last post, Shika, made me laugh SO hard.
Maybe she makes them in area 51, and she's part of a secret plot to take over the world via sexy lingerie.
No, it's to protect the world from teh aliens in Area 51 that they can't contain for much longer. in just a few days she has to make battle suits so that her models will be able to fight off the alien menace!

Link all the way, baby! :D
I may try to master other characters, but I generally use (and kick butt with) Link. :D
Same here! I sometimes use Mewtwo aswell, though...
and which do you think is the most useful character for defeating the showdown (event match 51)? I think it is pretty easy with jigglipuf (don't know if written well)
it really depends on your strengths, there is a way to win with everyone.
You know who else is good? Mr Game and Watch. he has some really powerful moves for a 2-D fella!
using jigglipuf's abilitie that is alike to a the home run bat you can kill each of the enemies with like to strikes, when I saw it I was amazed :o
that would be rest. it is insanely risky and hard to hit with, if you miss you are dead since you cant move for a while afterwards. you have to be touching, so even when the enemy is asleep I have missed quite a bit.
I completed it with Jigglypuff. How embarassing!
My main characters are Fox, Luigi, Marth, and Link.
I beat "The Showdown" with Mario the very first time I tried. Then I beat it with Yoshi. Then, I beat it with Falco (rencently)
I've done it with Marth, Link, and Fox. I found a little cheap way of taking out Giga Bowser easy with Fox... ::)
Giga Bowser is easy anyway, he just takes a long time to kill becuase hes metal and doesnt fly very far.
yes, but its a way to kill him off without anybody else interfering and hurting you.
But I thought the battle with Giga Boswer was a one on one? Maybe I'm mistaken...
it is in story mode. the event 51, showdown, you have to fight Giga bowser, Ganondorf, and mewtwo if I am not mistaken
