what is that name doing on the map of the Ordona province?
I've assumed that's the Japanese name for Ordona, since the Hylian translates out into Japanese.
Not in TP. In TP it's English.

Well, since that's not the same name as Ordona province, I'd assume that it was already named in Japanese, and merely transliterated into English to be used on the map. Nintendo of America, who handles the English translation, felt behooved to change the name of Latoan province to Ordona province, and no one felt the need to change on the map.
As a name, Latoan means nothing concerning anything else in the Zelda canon, as does Ordona. I think they're just different names for the same thing.
I think that may disprove the idea of the province/Light Spirit being named after a God/Goddess. Or at least that Ordona has anything to do with the God/Goddess' name.
Well, does Ordona have a different name in the Japanese version? It could possibly correspond.
My personal theory on that is Ordona (the entire province) merely being a previously human country, very small, whose particular brand of the Hyrulean religion involved a minor deity that represented the country; Ordona the Light Spirit. Hyrule conquers Ordona, creating the set of four minor deities in Twilight Princess.
I remember Ordon Village was called something like Tauru Village before TP was released, so that's probably the Japanese name.
That's the name of the village; I'm asking after the name of the Light Spirit. I've searched around, it seems to have stayed the same, but I could be wrong.

That would be like calling the English version Unnamed Village, because that's more or less what toaru means.
