Title: Lord of the Rings
Post by: TP Zelda on February 12, 2007, 08:31:31 PM
I wonder if there's already a thread like this... Anyhoo, who's everyones favorite character? Alla them are mine! 'cept the bad ones. So, I like Golumn, even though he's kinda bad. XD

Ah nice job on starting this.  I think that this topic can warrant an actual discussion so I'll move it to the General Discussion board for you.

Anyways, my favorite character was Aragorn(Strider outside Gondor).  I read the books in 6th grade and I'll say that the books were better.  I loved the movies, but the book had a kind of great feel to to it.  Also, there were many sections of the book that weren't in the movies, such as:

The House of Tom Bombadil
The Scouring of the Shire

Both of these events were important enough to get their own chapters in the book.  Although then the movie would be about 4 hours long.

The Scouring of the Shire was horribly anti-climactic. It would have made a terrible ending to a movie.

And The House of Tom Bombadil and Fog on the Barrow-downs didn't really add anything to the story.

I'm glad they were both cut.

Oh, and Boromir's the greatest.

"One does not simply walk into Mordor." ;D

Lord of the Rings is awesome!

I especially like the first movie, you know? It gives you the opening, the action is great, and it introduces the Fellowship of the Ring.

Hahaha yeah.

Gimli: That still counts as one!

I have terrible memory, so forgive me if that's not excactly right. :D

BTW, The Hobbit game is almost excactly like The Hobbit book!  ;D

Gandalf is my man.  And while the movies were good, the books were better.  Tom Bombadil may not have added to the story, but he's still one cool guy.

Gee, whom could I pick that isn't already cliched to death by the hoards of fans? OH I KNOW! SARUMAN! Truly an interesting study in a fall from grace.

I read the books over 4 years ago. But I stopped in the middle of the Two Towers for a looooong time, and didn't get back to reading it until like several months later... I waned to have the right time and mood to read them... I think I started in the summer before 8th grade... I'm in twelfth now soooooo... about four and a half years.

I also do a really freaky Gollum impression. I can even mimic the sounds he makes (gargling...)

My precious, MY PRECIOUSSSSSSSS... GOLLUM! WE MUST HAVES IT! THE NAASSSSSTY HOBBITSES! THEY STOLE OUR PRECIOUSSSSSSSS... :o :o :o :o >:( >:( >:( >:( :o :o :o :o

Um, I made it illegal for anyone to mimic my split personality lackey, JQ.  That'll be a $300 fine.  In cash.  Gella are also acceptable.  And as neat as Saruman is, I can't really be a big fan of him.  He has yet to pay me back the money I loaned him so he could buy that tower of his.

gilmi's little (elvish or dwarf probably) rap at the beginning of book two, and the trees little rhyme about races were my favorite parts. too bad they didnt sing in the movies:C

Gimli is the best. Short hairy guys with tree-choppers and attitudes will rule the world beside Ezlo someday.

Gimli: What's going on.  Tell me!
Legolas: Would you like me to describe it to you?  Or would you like me to fetch you a box?

nice!haha, I love that line...I especially like at Helm's Deep(in the book, I haven't seen the movie for Twin Towers yet so I'm not sure if it's in there) When they are constantly counting off all the guys, and then he comes back hurt after being swamped and the only thing he cares about is if he caught up to Legolas yet. ;D

That was definitely in the movie. MCRfreak's quote above is an example. But I don't think Gimli gets hurt too badly, they still go on as competetive. Legolas goes and shoots a really big elephant-creature and Gimli says "that still counts as one" XD classic.

No, not in that battle. The one at Helm's Deep, he gets gashed across the forehead when he is trapped in a cave. Then the battle is over and they get rescued. Maybe it was different in the movie.
