Title: Wrong board again?
Post by: TP Zelda on March 12, 2007, 12:35:18 PM
Anyway, you know what's wierd? Zelda seems to have world-whide things in it...

Like Rupees, they're Indian. And tunics! They're Roman! And the name Zelda is German.

Addressing your uncertainty as to where this thread belongs, it goes in the General Zelda board.

And yes, it does seem like the Zelda series have a little bit of everything from real life.

To add to this, Epona is the Celtic goddess of horses.

Really? Wow, guys, I didnt know any of that.

But of course, Zelda also has many of its roots in Japanese culture, considering it's from that general area.

True.  I read on Wikipedia that oni were Japanese demons that were once considered good luck or something like that.

If you're referring to Oni Link in MM, then that's not his official name. It's just a fan name for him that managed to catch on. His official name is 'Fierce Deity Link.'

Hmm, could've thought I read somewhere that it was the official name.  Oh well.  I'm allowed to make mistakes.

Yeah, it was him. Thanks.

It does seem to have a bit of everything. In fact, the series was inpired by a small 'adventure' Miyamoto had when he went into a cave in a forest as a child.

KoRL is King of Red Lions. Noarse is like Vikings. Zelda is actually Griselda, which is German. Epona was the Horse Goddess, though I thought of Greece. Gerudo HOUSES not horses. 007 is a joke, its James Bond.

It's Norse, not Noarse.

Oni Link is his official Japanese name. Fierce Deity is a mistranslation.

Actually his Japanese name is 'Kishin Link,' which roughly translated means (you guessed it!) 'Fierce Deity Link.' He's referred to as 'Oni Link' because 'oni' is 'it' in Japanese tag games; which if you'll remember, is what Majora wanted to play with Link.

And I'm really getting tired of your "ZOMG mistranslation!!!!11!!1!111!" shtick. You realize that Nintendo can consciously change things for overseas releases, right?

The horse god is Poseidon, who was also God of the Sea and Zeus's brother, in Ancient Greek mythology.

Shuriken would be nice, some new Garo ninja with these shuriken would be better.
