I just read this news article at The Hylia talking about how Zelda could use a reboot. In the article it was stated that ALL previous history of the series: from the original LOZ to PH, should be tossed out and then started again, stating that, this was a way for the creators to "basically" start fresh and make another blockbuster Zelda title. Go to the Hylia and take a read. Do you agree? ( :I'll try to post a direct link) :o
I read it too. Its not as bad as that article makes it out to be, but it would be nice to kill someone other than Ganon or Vaati in the next Zelda.
it doesn't mean they should abandon the storyline. Maybe they could have Ganon finally destroyed and somebody new come in to the picture. They also need new ideas for attacks and such, the 'hit the ball back and forth and use a light arrow' tactic is getting old...
Yeah, some of the stuff, like Shika and Iron Knuckel suggest, could change, but not EVERYTHING. I actually want the next Zelda to be like this:
This band of bag guy dudes each take over Hyrule and are led by this evil wizard who actually turns out to be Link's farther, said to have run away from the village after being accussed of a crime he didn't commit. Their plan is to steal seven ancient artifacts to release a power that will allow them to take control of the gods and goddesses themselves. To do this: he sends a bad guy to each dungeon to destroy the local area and search for one of these artifacts. As Link goes deaper into the journey, he finds out these contain the souls of the seven lost sages lines from many years ago. Each of those guys after the artifacts find the item and become a monster. (and boss dungeon) Link kills them, blah blah blah. Then he kills farther, land is saved, happily ever after.
Ganon makes no appearance or reference, this is LONG after he died for the last time in LTTP (the last game with him as a live character, according to Miyamoto's 2000 timeline) and he has been forgotten except to Link's farther, who really left because he found out and wanted to use his family power to get ultimate power.
What do you think?
If they arer't gonna have new baddies than, how about have every bad guy ever to be in Zelda.....be in the same game together. It worked for MK Armagedon.
how bout link has to kill Zelda or something ta save the world? :-X

What if they fit in something with Dark Link? The only game were he was a final boss was AoL, and his next appearance wasn't until OoT (or am I forgeting something?). It would be really cool if they had a game that went into the depth of his character.
Or mabye Zelda's farther could be the bad guy! :o
Awsome idea. I always liked Zant. Miyamoto tried so hard to make him look like an evil psychopath that its funny. Its not often that you get an evildoer that tries so hard to be evil that it makes him look stupid. I wouldn't have him written anyother way though.
Unlike Veran. In my opinion Veran and General Onox are the worst well written bosses in Zelda history. They probly took only 5 minuets to think up thier characters.

That was a joke right? :o
All I want is that they stop this "Look at our new main villain...or is he? Ganonodorf was behind everything all along! Heheh, bet you didn't see that one coming."
I also think they need new ideas for boss fights, not meaning new enemies and end bosses necessarily although that would be nice, just some new ideas, it seems like most of the fights are similar to ones before...
They did a good job with the boss fights in TP... they weren't old. o: ... Except for the old "smash-her-favourite-boss-with-a-hammer" thing. That's.... uh, yeah. >>
I think they need a new main villian. I mean, someone other than Ganondorf should try to rule the world, probably while he's stuck in the sacred realm or something.
When Bill Clinton is elected as king of Hyrule, only Link can save the day. ;D

Hee, true. Sometimes good people are remembered for bad things, therefore they are considered bad, but Bill Clinton was a good president... x:
Just like how Hitler was actually an amazing artist and leader. But since the Holocaust and everything... yeah, he isn't really remembered fondly.

I don't like saying that though, because it makes it seem like it isn't his fault, like he was just the big idiot(he is, but he is evil too. Bricks are evil, they are smarter than Bush, albiet, but not too much).

How about where we don't even know who the enemy is, and we think we know that they're an evil psycopath, but they were doing the right thing, or the lesser of 2 evils in they're mind? And a sad ending. I'm tired of those endings where "and they all lived happily ever after". Thats why I HATE LttPs ending. Evey single character survived. Thats why Baten kaitos Origins ending is so good! SPOILER in Origins ending, A LOT of people died, incuding one of the 3 playable characters. LA ending was the best best because only Marin survived, and as a seagull.
Actually none of the people in LA really existed.
Really? They seemed to live their lives, have kids, and be people(or animals). They did exist, but only in the dream. How else do you explain the Marin-seagull thingie?
Remember, Kololint island was all a dream of the Wind Fish.
Yeah, but they still lived there, and had lives. I know dreams can be complicated, but not enough to have tons of people, monsters, and animals. They just couldn't(or wouldn't) leave because Koholint was the entire dream, and the water was a kind of barrier. And when the dream ended, the people didn't have bodies, so they died.
The people were a dream too. Everyone and everything in LA except Link and the Windfish didn't exist.
Being that it's called "Legend of Zelda" and all, it'd be kind of weird if Zelda didn't have some important role to play. Even if it were one that could just as easily be filled by anybody else besides her, as it tends to be in....every single Zelda game.
Maybe the whole "Legend of Zelda" thing could be taken a little differently, though. Like, if some one had never heard of the series, not a thing about it, what would they possibly imagine Zelda to be? or who? Would they actually think of a princess in need of saving or maybe a heroic figure on her own? Legendary, of course, as the title would imply.
No matter how different nearly each Zelda game has been from the others, the series can't shake its original theme. I'm still in love with it, but if it was completely wiped or "reboot"ed, I wonder what it'd feel like.
well, mst people think that Link is called Zelda...
Being able to call enter Zelda as your name to access the second quest in the first game probably doesn't help any, eh?
lol not really. and it also helps when the stupid people play the game for ten minutes or just watch it and never see any of the story .
Of course I meant that as a joke, Zelda would collapse if that were a game! I can't believe no one else caught that.
I don't even want to try to think of how to reboot the storyline in terms of enemies and such. I prefer things like geography. In fact, I would like to see a place that is similar to a medieval Japanese or Chinese city in the series, because, and you all know it, China and Japan rock!
Mabye an Incan style village would be nice, too.

Mabye an Incan style village would be nice, too.
Hmm, does anybody remember the game Illusions of Gaia? It was the only one of its series that was translated into English, its precursors being Soul Blazer and Terranigma. The Incan-style village idea you mentioned reminds me of that game. It had a lot of that kind of stuff.
That
would be pretty awesome in a Zelda game, actually. It's almost like it's hinted at, though, through the different races. Sort of used as an inspiration and then twisted over into something else, like the Rito.
Actually, Soul Blazer was released in AMerica, but Terranigma wasn't. But Terranigma WAS released in English, just only in PAL regions.
Whoa, I didn't know that! I played them both as roms, in English, but I thought they were fan-only translations.
Thanks!
I wish they would have more houses like the Gerudo mesas.
Or mabye a Northwest Coast Native American village.
An Australian Outback style plain would also be nice.
Seriously, they still have several wonderful town/geography ideas they could us, but ignore them.
Mabey some sort of frozen wastland area (I'm sick of deserts), or a rainforest.
Frozen Wasteland - Mountains in TP, MM; Goron Mountain in Seasons. (They're at least close enough)
Rainforest is a very good idea, although the MM swamps are like rainforests.
I guess, but not good enough to pass as a rainforest. Also, it would probably get taken out out, in favor of a simpler place. Remember the big forest places in TP that we never saw, and the closes thing being the lost woods place? Also, there was a real "lost woods" for OoT, but it ot removed as well. Stupid Nintendo.
Quote from: Kannochi on April 04, 2007, 05:37:21 PM
Rainforest is a very good idea, although the MM swamps are like rainforests.
Not really. Compare the tarain of Luisiana to the terain of Brazil.
Swamps, Heat, and Tropical Trees.
Swamps, Heat, and Swampy Stlye Trees.
They're very similar, but I think they just didn't have enough time to make rainforest trees for MM do to their PURPOSELY MADE two year limit. I was always assuming it's a rainforest considering the Deku's resemblance to South American Native people, monkeys, and they dungeon style.
I read somewhere that the Dekus were inspired by the USSR.
That is just weird! :o :o :o :o :o
It doesn't make sense to me either. The Deku Palace's theme music is Russian sounding but outherwise I have no clue what they mean.
I think they're based off a creature I mentioned in some thread thousands of weeks ago. :3 Bakru, I think they're called. Wooden puppet-things with enlarged heads and the size of a child. Magical.
Anyways, I would really enjoy a cave-system of houses, with stalactites and stalagmites, sort of like those cav-houses in Australia I saw on some Discovery show.
Incan designed houses would be fun, too.
Mabey an entire underground city (bigger than Goron City).
Goron City was mostly like a big hole. A real underground place would be cool, like Menzoberranzen or Ched Nasad from the Underdaek in the Forgotten realms books. Just get rid of all the spider stuff.
Or we could have a Moskau like city within some mountains?
I like the idea of a "reboot", but I don't think that the entire timeline so far should be disgarded. Besides, in Zelda it's the gameplay that matters. That's where the change must be made.
My idea is that they should continue the "dungeon crawler" tradition of past Zelda games, but with a twist. Instead of it being so that you have to find an item you need to beat the boss in the dungeon all the items could be moved OUT of the dungeons. Instead there could be magic spells that you learn in each dungeon, which you need to defeat the boss.
There hasn't been a major selection of spells since AoL, and I think with the Wiimote it can be done. The items should be purchasable in shops, prizes in mini-games or in treasure chests in dark caves that can be found throughout the Overworld.
Speaking of the Overworld, I think the ALttP-OoT-TP Overworld is somewhat overused, and it's time for an entirely different Hyrule. I still think names such as Death Mountain and Lost Woods should be kept, but the Overworld should not look like the traditional Overworld.
I also think they should start from scratch when it comes to races. One of the biggest flaws in OoT was that all those new races were introduced at once. Do we really need them? The only truly important race in the series is the Hylia. Well, them and the Moblins.
In my opinion Wiilda only really need three races; the Hylia, the Zoras and the Moblins. I add the Zoras because they have been in the series since the first game. Actually, I think they should be remade to resemble the Zoras in the old games.
I don't want to see the Gorons appear, because in my opinion Death Mountain need to be a dangerous mountain filled with monsters.
I think 'capital' of the Zoras should be far to the north (I think it should be in the north because I like the idea of the water of the Zora's River being the source of all water in Hyrule), in an area that might be named Zora Falls. That's what I think it should be called because I like to think of their home as a series of magnificent waterfalls, much like in ALttP. And behind the waterfalls there might be enormous caverns where the Zoras live.
There should also be a large glacier area. In the past there has been several snowy areas in Zelda, but none has been outright glaciers. The glacier area could be north of Zora Falls, because it would make sense if the water of Zora Falls comes from a glacier.
The Moblins should inhabit the forests. I think there should be one enormous main forest (the Lost Woods), but also a few seperate forests. The majority of the Moblins -- those that don't serve Ganon -- should live in tree-houses (Kokiri style) or underground caves.
The Hylians, of course, should live much like they've always lived. I'd like there to be several large towns, but I think the Zelda series is not yet ready for that. If Wiilda has several towns, they will most likely have fixed camera. Instead, I think the capital (which should be called something else than Hyrule Castle Town) should be large and crowded and really feel like a true city. And of course the camera should NOT be fixed.
The castle should be made more like a town than like a dungeon (like in previous games), and the player is free to explore the castle (except the restricted areas, which can be entered later) and talk to its residents. I also think there should be two or three Hylian villages besides the capital and the castle.
As for music, I think it should be mostly MIDI. While orchestrated music may sound more epic, MIDI can be more atmospheric. Remember how, when you hit an enemy with your sword in TWW, the music changes? That is not possible with orchestrated music.
There are other examples in TP. For example, have you noticed that the Overworld music reflects how you travel? Also, in Hyrule Castle Town there are several different themes depending on where you are in town.
I think that the intro, a possible prologue (although I'd rather prefer it if there isn't a prologue), cut-scenes and probably the final battle should have orchestrated music, while the rest should be MIDI. And I think the tone of the music should be dependant on the weather, the time of the day, the way you travel, Link's status (if you've gotten far and have lots of hearts he would naturally feel more confident), and, if you're in a part of the Overworld where the Overworld theme plays, where you are.
For example, the different fields might have different versions of the Overworld theme. But not so much that it's completely different. More like in Hyrule Castle Town in TP.
I also think there should be some changes when it comes to music. I'd actually like the Ballad of the Wind Fish to replace Zelda's Lullaby. The Lullaby sounds nice and all that, but no matter how beautiful it may be it doesn't come close to the Ballad. I also think several "forgotten" themes, like the End Credits to the first game and the Dungeon Theme in the first game, as well as the Thunderbird Palace Theme from AoL, should make returns in Wiilda.
My next idea is one that I've heard so much talk of. Difficulty levels. Well, in my case that's not entirely accurate. It's more like Challenge levels. :-* I think that Difficulty levels are a bit unorginal (at least the stereotypic Easy-Normal-Hard) and boring. So I got the idea of a Wisdom-Power-Courage system. It would not only increase the replayability, but it would also let fans play the type of Zelda game they most prefers.
If you choose Wisdom, the game will be more puzzle-based, and enemies weaker. If you choose Power there will be fewer enemies but they, like the bosses, will be MUCH more powerful. If you choose Courage there will be a lot more enemies.
I've saved the best for last. The controllers. You didn't think I would leave them out, did you? With the Wii Nintendo wanted to revolutionate gaming, and the way we interact with games. That is why I think Wiilda should set the standard for how third-person Adventure/RPG games will be played in the future using the new controllers. And in Wiilda Nintendo needs to be AGGRESSIVE and push the controller to its limits, and beyond.
I have several ideas for how it might be done. One is that the nunchuk, if moved to right or left, can be used to turn the camera. Also, by tilting the Wiimote upwards you should be able to jump onto ledges and tall boxes, and even climbing up ladders should be done by doing that. By tilting the Wiimote downwards you crouch. Furthermore, if you're attacked by ReDeads, or those annoying creatures that slow you down, you don't shake them off by repeatedly pushing a button. Instead you shake them off by shaking the Wiimote.
Of course, that would mean the sword would have to be put on a button. But that would only mean that you have to push a button while swinging the Wiimote. Most items should be like that.
:-[ *drools*
Get a job with Nintendo, Evilslayer. Please. Those are the best ideas I've heard for a Zelda game.
Cut off the top half, keep the bottom.
Evilslayer, I think the thing I like best about all of your ideas is that you've suggested a genuine "reboot." A completely fresh start, right from the get-go. Interesting.
The gameplays fine Evilslayer.
As for the magic. Already too many games have abondoned normal weapons for magic, even games like Final Fantasy have started using it too much.
While I do think they should start reuseing lesser used races (like the Subrosians or Tokay) instead of making more, I can't agree that they should get rid of all the races except the Hylians, Moblins, and Zora. The Moblins aren't even a race, they are an enemy type. And if your want to put the Zoras as they were in the original LOZ, than so are they.
In regards to the overworld. First off its not "overused" TPs overworld looks entirely diffrent from OOTs. Alttp didn't even take place in the same country as OOT and TP. Alttp takes place in New Hyrule(after WW) OOT and TP are in Old Hyrule. Even if it was overused, they can't change it. There is no way they could explain it in the game. What would it be like if California suddenly changed into a rainforest? Thats pretty much what your suggesting.
I don't have TP for Wii so I have no comment on that.
The music idia sounds ok too.
Thats all I have to say.
Moblins are a race, just because they are enemies doesn't deny them that.
Evilslayer, MIDIs aren't nealyas good as orchestra. Just because the song changes when Link hits something with his sword doesn't make MIDIs better. Old races do need to come back, like the Rito, but you pretty much want a new world. Don't ask for a new Hyrule, ask for a new Termina. We don't need spells, we need new costumes and weapons, and a recall of Twilight where the Sword of Light is in the Light world without glitching. Moblins should live in caves, like in Eloze.
Either Midna or Vaati should come back, preferably Midna.
They both have huge fanbases
Did I say this already?
No, but you just double posted.
No I didn't. Its just that me and Penguin Dude 2 have the same avatar. Look at the names.
Well then change it, you were using a different one earlier.
I agree with many things Evilslayer says, like how the Moblins must have a more important role and the Zora/Falls thing. (except how they should looklike LOZ Zoras) But they should also have completely new types of Hyrule:
This will happen thousands of years after the last game (I won't say which it is, but so far the closest we have to last is LTTP/LA) and the world in the game should be three islands. One should be like Gamefreak had it: A forest, a plain, a glacier in the north, and more towns. This will be the country of Hyrule. My only change would be some ancient ruins and the Dekus should have some inhabitance in the forest, and what also would be nice would be an Native Alaskan Indian style port. Mainly Hylains and Zoras are here, with small Dekus and Moblins. It will have a powerful military. Also, the river should split just around the port for the island and surround it, giving it a 'moat' of sorts. And a fountain in the middle of the castle courtyard should have a Triforce standing over the part releasing water, and the top part glows bright.
Then comes the next island. Hyrule is in the north, while this one is southwest. It is mountanous, full of jungles and swampy rivers like the Amazon, and rich of gold and minerals. This is where the very place in a Zelda game I've been waiting for will be: this will be the Incan style island.
On the southern end of the island would be the main port. It will be full of many people from around the world here to trade, many people, and be simply the most beautiful Zelda town ever. The buildings would be made of stone, and hay would hang down from the ceilings. Instead of stone walkways would be dirt paths, and the port would be full of fish and sailors. The population should be mainly Humans (not Hylains) with a small Goron mix in it.
Then, going north through the island along the only brick path, you go through the jungle to the capital city, located on the top of a high mountain. The enemies here are very wild and tough, and the terrain is mainly jungle/Amazon River/mountain.
Once on the top, you will reach the capital. The population here is the one that best fits the Andes Mountains-like terrain: the Gorons. It is built almost entirely like Macchu Picchu. The population is rather wealthy, being only middle class and upper class. There is lots of gold decorating the capital, and many shops and treasures just waiting to be explored.
Just a little outside the city is the Emperor's Palace, where the powrful Goron emperor will sit on his throne and rule the island. In many parts of the palace will be Easter Island Head statues standing guard of the place for eternity. Gold objects hang from the walls, and just above the emperor's throne on a wall is a large Triforce symbol, with the Courage peace especially noticable.
But venturing north of the palace would bring you to Death Mountain, which is like how Evilslayer described it except in the middle of it a large black circular cloud covers the mountain's tip from view. It is an acitve volcano.
There will also be several jungle Dekus and Monkeys found across the jungles, selling items to those who wish to buy.
In the southeast, is the desert island that is known as the 'Knowledge Center of the World'. People from all around the world come here to study in their universities. The Royal Family is rich, and the towns are full of culture. I'll get more into it next post.
I think they should have kindof a prequel to OOT. There is a war mentioned in OOT after which Hyrule is formed. Mabey have it before or during this war, thus Hyrule hasn't been formed yet and all the races are not under the Royal Family. This would make things intresting.
The island should be shaped like a backwards C, but the beack should stretch out far. Along the edge of the enitre island is a long chain of mountains that move around the island and protect its waters. On the northern and southern tips of the island the line splits from the island and goes through the ocean, making a ring around the southeastern island. Olny one part of the ring has a hole, and it leads into a bay, where the port of the island is. The island is also technologically advanced compared to the other two.
The port is full of many people, but the main popualtion is Gerudo. The city is famous for its vast quantities of knowledge, libraries, and schools. It is the knowledge center of the world, all information eventually makes way into the city. Many people have traveled here to learn.
Going north-northeast, you will travel through a thick desert full of many monsters hiding in the sand waiting for you. No life is there at all, and several dead skeletons should lie along the ground.
In the center of the islnad is the capital, which is the center of a major civil war destroying the country. The northern half of the island, which is mainly Subrosian, has seperated from the country and have began many attacks on the capital. It is hard to say who is the true owner of the city, the rebels are sieging it contsantly, but the loyals always push them out. It was once a beautiful city. The houses in both the capital and the port is mainly Ancient Egyptian Style. Population is mainly Gerudo.
Outside the city's west side is the Palace, which has been abandoned. Only through the city can one get the palace. All things have been removed. The Royal Family has moved into a small island resort of the coast of the island. In the throne room on the floor is a Triforce, and the Wisdom peace is glowing.
In the north, jsut along the mountanous ring, is the Subrosian village, where the houses are mud huts and the capital is a five story tall building. It's population has decreased do to the revolution because most troops come from here.
In the middle of these three islands' sea is a large storm center that almost never stops sotrming, and navigation is impossible. It is shaped like an upside-down triangle.
And here's a Triforce reference: If you draw a straight line from each island to another, then you would make a triangle. And the storm center in between them is an upside-down triangle in the middle. So what does this make? The Triforce itself.
And each island secretly holds a Trifroce peace: The fountain in the caslte hasd the Power Fragment in it, the Wall in the Goron Emperor's throne room has Courage, and the floor on the abandoned palace's throne room has Wisdom. Each island reflects upon the peace it holds: Hyrule has the most POWERful military, the Incan style island has the most COURAGEous leader, and the desert island has the greatest WISDOM in the world. And each of them is in the exact place their Triforce is in the sea: Hyrule in the north, the Goron one in the southwest, and the desert one in the southeast.
QuoteThe Moblins aren't even a race, they are an enemy type. And if your want to put the Zoras as they were in the original LOZ, than so are they.
There are good and bad Moblins. They talk. They wield weapons and wear clothes. In TWW they even sleep in bed! They are much more of a race than the Zoras ever were before OoT.
QuoteIn regards to the overworld. First off its not "overused" TPs overworld looks entirely diffrent from OOTs. Alttp didn't even take place in the same country as OOT and TP. Alttp takes place in New Hyrule(after WW) OOT and TP are in Old Hyrule. Even if it was overused,
The desert and lake are both at the same place as in OoT. The Faron Woods are to the south. Even the bridge near Kakariko Village have been reused! There's no doubt that TP Hyrule is heavily influenced by OoT Hyrule.
ALttP takes place in the Child Timeline, probably a few centuries after TP. That's what Aonuma says. What you used as a fact is merely a
theory.
QuoteThere is no way they could explain it in the game. What would it be like if California suddenly changed into a rainforest? Thats pretty much what your suggesting.
And how does Lake Hylia change from east to west? Each Hyrule is an
alternate version of Hyrule. They don't need to explain any such thing. If Nintendo decides to change the Overworld they WILL change the Overworld.
There's also no way to, for example, explain how Zora's Domain moves from Death Mountain to a mountain much farther to the north.
QuoteEither Midna or Vaati should come back, preferably Midna.
Some of the worst sins a video game developer can commit is adding a character in a future game just because he/she has a big fan base. I don't mind Vaati. But adding Midna would kill the ending to TP.
Yes, Midna is definitely done.
If you take into account the effects of Continental Drift, I think that would help explain Zora's Domain moving...
Except that takes millions of years. :-*
Uh, no it doesn't. First of all, continental drift takes hundreds of thousands of years for any noticeable change to happen. And second of all, if that were the case, why hasn't everything else moved?
Edit: Curses, foiled again!
This isn't Earth, remember. I assume it is similar to Earth in structure, because of how it maintains life and how plant life and such looks similar, but it doesn't mean the physics and such are the same. The continents could drift much, much faster. If the core of the planet was hotter than Earth's, the convection currents could travel faster, carrying the plates faster.
What about my Hyrule? What do you think?
They should make the dungeons less... "get item...work out how to use item on boss". There should be more of a difficulty level in the bosses, your ability to beat them shouldnt be defined by the finding of a weapon but your ability to fight. Im all for new weapons but when they only have the lifespan of one dungeon and are never used again... thats just lazy. The spinner was a really cool item, and it was used once or twice in the overworld map but i woulda liked it to be used more.
Also get the towns right... more variations in the things NPC's say. In TP there was little incentive to hang around in Hyrule town as most people didnt speak and spouted the same old stuff again and again.

The Hyrule Castle town kind of annoyed me for that matter... I was running around trying to talk to people, but... no one cares. ;w; I do like the people at night near the doctor's, though. "Who do you think that guy is?"
"I wonder who that guy is... >>"
The NPCs were fairly boring in TP, if you ask me...

The spinner was a really cool item, and it was used once or twice in the overworld map but i woulda liked it to be used more
You could just go play a different game too.
Also, Lake Hylia, the greatest change is really in MC, when it move above the forest. All the other times, you can simply turn the map.

What you used as a fact is merely a theory.
QuoteThere is no way they could explain it in the game. What would it be like if California suddenly changed into a rainforest? Thats pretty much what your suggesting.
And how does Lake Hylia change from east to west? Each Hyrule is an alternate version of Hyrule. They don't need to explain any such thing. If Nintendo decides to change the Overworld they WILL change the Overworld.
There's also no way to, for example, explain how Zora's Domain moves from Death Mountain to a mountain much farther to the north
The bridge by Kakarico in OOT is 10ft long and 3ft over the water. The bridge in TP (if you mean the Bridge of Eldin) is 150ft long and 500ft above the water. There is no way you can say the TP bridge is like the OOT one.
Lake Hylia is east to you becuase you probly have the Wii version. It was mirrored from left to right becuase most people are right handed. They had to mirror the whole game to make the Wiimote work with a left handed character. In the GC version, Lake Hylia is in the west just like OOT.
Zoras domain was never at Death Mountian!!!!
It was at a mountain close to Death Mountain. And yes, the last time I checked, a point on Earth with elevation much higher than the surrounding area (Zora River) is a mountain.
No one's saying anything about my Hyrule. :'(

Huh? You posted something? I never noticed...
I was taking to a mate about this and i realiesed something.
*spoiler* if you havn't played up to the goron temple in TP
The bit where colin gets captured by the moblin on hogback... there sould be more sidequests like those.
Rather than just goind through collecting the 4 whatevers (mirror shards/shadow mask things) you need to progress there sould be sidequests that interrupt you. If you ignore the sidequest and carry on on your search then you get one item/story and then you do the sidequest OR if you do the sidequest first it gives you a different item or story and then you do the dungeon but the item/story that you could have got is gone. This could even effect your path through the temple. ... one path for the sidequest first and one for temple first.
Most satisfying bit is that the NPC's could be effected by this. If you save someones daughter on a sidequest then you can go and visit them in town etc. Then hyrule would be personal to you and the choices you made... and add replay value
Yeah....so if you didn't like someone they could die...
Yeah, I posted somethinga few pages ago. Please look, I'm beginning to beg. :'(
well... i dint mean it quite as harsh as that but you get my idea... you actually shape hyrule and your experience with it rather than just playing through.
Hmm...then it would have a Fable style to it, yes? That was a great game. Although I don't think they should resort to Fable's style too much, like you should never be able to make Link evil.

And move Zora's Domain from Death Mountain to a completely different mountain? :-* And where's the ocean that should have appeared in the middle?

Did you see any places NORTH of Death Mountain in OoT? :-* 'Cause I didn't. I'm referring to the Kakariko Gorge. It's made of wood, but that doesn't mean anything. I meant that it's in about the same place.

Excuuuuuse me, but did you see any gap between Death Mountain and the Zora's Domain? In OoT Death Mountain covers the ENTIRE northern part of the map, from the Gerudo Desert to Zora's Domain.
Incorrect, the range of mountains Death Mountain is in covered the entire northern border.

There is no solid proof that Alttp is in Old Hyrule. There is proof that OOT and TP are however. Unless you can come up with solid proof, leave Alttp out of this.
LTTP is likely to be in New Hyrule, because TWW would have mentioned it, and I can't see it fitting in the timeline with TP.
Actually Zora's domain is a part of Death Mountain. Or its close enough. If you think back to LttP Death Mountain was huge. And there is still that rocky area close to Zora's Domain. Why do you think you can't go farther north?
Death Mountain isn't the one on Zora falls and the Northern Border, you can see from the mountain's top and on certain places that there are far more mountains around it.
Its Death Mountain range. Yes, but in LttP or OoT you it wasn't actually part of the mountain, it was part of the range.

If that scenario were so, then the surface of whatever planet Hyrule is on would be very unstable. I'm not just talking about laws of physics here, I'm talking about cause and effect.
I like the idea of a Tundra...
But whocares' LENGTHY exposition of geography is... doesn't seem to connect too well, and it's too complex... Not too appealing to me. And a military? Hah... They don't really have much in the ways of an 'organized' military.
I'm not sure what I would add here... But that idea at the end of page five sounded a lot like what went on with Majora's mask, and to an extent, Windwaker. I'm all for more fluidity in NPC design and sidequests.
Hasn't anyone ever considered nonlinearity? At a certain point in time, to make things more interesting, a nonlinear path would be fairly interesting. But to combine a well-developed plot and nonlinearity is quite a challenge.
A lot of Evilslayer's ideas seem to be rehashes of the first two Zelda games... we've evolved beyond that point in time...
QuoteBut to combine a well-developed plot and nonlinearity is quite a challenge.
I fully agree with that. The only game I've seen to be able to pull that off was Fable.
Then again, Miyamoto's squad has proven to be quite capable, and I'm sure they could do it if Miyamoto put his full creative touch to it.
LttP has been the most non-linear game so far I think. Maybe WW, with all the islands, though.
I think the original was the most non-linear, you could do things in any order...
Ahh, nevermind, I thought you meant non-linear as in, you aren't taken to certain places for the main quest. You have to do them on your own.
They should also have a few feudal lord states in Hyrule. We have seen feudalism in OOT, but we only knew it existed, not the feeling of it. Each state sohuld have a lord, and in the center a manor, and at the border a foretress. Every manor should havea wall around it for protection. There should be an actual church in each to worship the gods and goddesses. On a hill on top of all but one manor should be the lord's castle. The other manor's castle should be on flat land with a river forming a moat around it.
Each manor should have large fields filled with working serfs, and a small town filled with merchants, workers, and the middle class. The castles should have with knights and servants in every room, and in some rooms both of them at once. The castle should have several valuable arts, like vases, sculptures, and paintings. The lords will each be a different race, although I'd prefer Zoras, Gorons, Gerudos, and Humans with the rest of the kingdom, the Hylain ection, under the rule of the King of Hyrule.
The king should also have half the power over his kingdom, like in the middle ages. The lords would be under his command, the knights would be stationed in every part of his domain, and he could inflict any tax on his people. He is also the richest person in Hyrule, and his oldest son should get the throne.
The biggest town should be near the King's Castle, and should have people from every state and many shops and people. Smaller towns should be in each manor, but still have quite a few things of interest. There should also e minor cases of disease in one or two towns.
There should also be one big church in the center of Hyrule, one that is inspired by actual medieval churches. It should be filled priests and monks, and the one who is in charge of the church would be the religious leader of Hyrule. He has the other half of the nation's power. He rules the religious world of Hyrule, threatening anyone who revolts against his rule, even the king, with excommunication, and can even put a state under interdict. He acts like the king's 'puppeteer', controlling or influincing several of his decisions. The religious leader should also act as the lord of central Hyrule, unnoficially, though.
Trade should be plentiful. Large numbers of foreign food, weapons, and items should be brought into Hyrule. The states should commonly have contact with each other. It might be nice if two of the states were at war with each other. Many people should be around, with careers like public singers and shoe cleaners. Living conditions for the serfs should be bad, the middle class should be normal, the lords be similar to today's upper-middle class, and the king the only true person in upper class, along with the Royal Family.
If you haven't caught on by now, I'll tell you: this will be based around the Middle Ages.
That seems kinda like Tales of Symphonia with the church, and Inuyasha with the way things are. In Symphonia, the Pope almost got to be king, and Inuyasha is 500 years in the past, though it has a lot more war.
Seems to me more like, you know, the way things actually were in the Middle Ages.
It seems a bit too detailed to me though. Is some of that stuff really necessary? This is a Zelda game, not Civilization/Age of Empires.
Good point, but we could mix up culture a bit: each state could be representing a different culture from the time. The Gerudos could be like Muslims (except the Crusades and different religion parts), the Gorons South American Andes tribes, the Humans like the Chinese/Japanese/Koreans, and the Zoras.... ? Mabye they could be a lake or coast culture?
Just becuase Zelda uses mostly middle aged technology, doesn't mean it should be like the middle ages. LOTR uses middle aged tech, but it would be horrible if it were like the middle ages.
How true...
And whocares, have you EVER played any other RPG besides Zelda? Take a look at Breath of Fire II, or Grandia II. Both deal with a big church in the middle that turns out to be very corrupt and misleading the people. If it were just the way you described, it'd lose its uniqueness, because frankly, we have a LOT of RPG's that are based around the middle ages model of things.
Secret of Mana? Nope? Didn't think so
Chrono Trigger? Nope? ditto
Grandia?
Breath of Fire?
Tales of Symphonia?
Tales of Phantasia?
Dragon Quest?
Seriously, if you want to satisfy your medieval cravings, go to other series rather than being strictly Zelda and forcing it to be what you think it should be... It'd take out the fun and variety we know to be Zelda.
There's a WHOLE world of games out there besides Zelda.
Zelda isn't an RPG, its an action/adventure. RPG revolve around stats and usually have multiple people being controled (known as a "party" for those of you who never played a RPG).
You've got a point though, too many RPGs are set in midevil settings. The only ones I can think of that aren't offhand are Earthbound and Star Wars KOTOR 1 & 2, which are also my 2 favorit RPGs (3rd is FFXII).
Actually by definition, Zelda is and was the first RPG. FF developed that party system. You can have a hack and slash, single character adventure, that is an RPG. I think Oblivion is like that.
And like JQ said, thats not really Zelda, Whocares. If you want that, you shouldn't really seek it in Zelda. Picture Hyrule field... filled with a bunch of stone walls. And there is never a pope-type figure in Zelda, and lords' manors and several walled in cities, and churches cluttering up Hyrule wouldn't really be fun. Hyrule needs to seem peaceful, kind of helpless. I like the small time village feeling. Where everyone knows each other and it just seems, I can't describe it, but like Kakariko in OoT and LttP, the Kokiri village, Zora's Domain(both), all had this feel.
QuoteZelda isn't an RPG, its an action/adventure. RPG revolve around stats and usually have multiple people being controled (known as a "party" for those of you who never played a RPG).
RPG=Role-playing game. In Zelda you play the role as Link. The player is free to imagine how Link's personality is and what he say. Claiming that's stats is the only sort of "evolution" system an RPG can have is very narrow-minded. Zelda has its own "evolution" system; Heart Pieces/Containers. It also have upgrades, several different items you can use, an Overworld and dungeons.
Even Miyamoto calls Zelda an RPG.
QuoteIGNcube: Speaking of Zelda, does the game story parallel that of the movie Ladyhawke?
Shigeru Miyamoto: Our game should not be paralleling that movie very closely, no. That's not our intention. In regard to the animals in the game, it's an RPG and the more of those natural elements -- in this case represented by the wolf and the haw -- the more we expand the realm of the RPG and give ourselves room to grow and fill into. We thought that by adding these animals it would help us create a larger and more realistic world.
