Title: FAQ...
Post by: DW on April 14, 2007, 01:04:11 PM
I just thought that since a few new members have been joining, there are going to be a lot of questions asked. And since we will all probably be asking some of the same questions, I figured why not compile them here and then when a new player asks you something you can direct them to here. I will update this list with new Q's and A's as we get them, and will add some that I myself want to know. If you see an Answer space where it says {ANSWER NEEDED} then either post the answer here or PM me with it and I will update it. So here we go:

Q: How do you start events, and do you need special clearance to?
A: For a topic of yours to be considered an Event, you must first get permission from Royal Guard, Master Goron or Shadowlink13. Not just any topic can qualify as an event - usually, it is only a dungeon tah twill receive this title (For example: Master Goron's "Malvagio's Occupation" and Alpha's "Force of Gold III"). Events are normally rare, as having too many would ruin the excitement of having any.

Q: What's the busiest time on the forums?
A: There isn't one, really. Most members jump on at seemingly random times to reply to topics they are involved in.  Usually, the only time the game is really "busy" is when there are some truly epic topics or Events happening.

Q:How do I earn Talent Points (TP) ?
A: TPs can be obtained in numerous ways;

1.You get one TP for every level you GAIN. This means that you don't start with a TP for being level 1, but when you go to level 2 you get one.
2.You can also earn TPs by doing quests. Most of these quests are simple; just find somebody missing an item, use their clues to find their item by clicking in the right place on the right screen, and return the item for your reward.
3.Events. Events are, well, events, where you roleplay out an adventure, battle, or dungeon. Based on how well you do, you can be given TPs for your roleplaying skill(or lack thereof)
4. Roleplayer of the Month awards. These are pretty straightforward--be the best roleplayer for that month, and if you win the contest by having enough people choose you as the best roleplayer over the last 30 days, you are given one TP.

Q: Where is South Hyrule?
A:South of the section you can freely roam around in right now.

Honestly, it's not up yet.  From what I was told, it's ready, but only Jack can put it up or something like that.  And Jack is somewhat missing.  So it may be a while before we can get to South Hyrule.

Q: What and where is the arena?
A: The arena is located in South Hyrule, and is currently inaccessible. It serves as a means for members to duke it out in the ring, and will perhaps feature other events, based on the discretion of the admins. The Grand Opening is the Member Tournament, which is slated as the opening event of South Hyrule.

Q: What does NPC stand for, and why is it in front of some people's threads?
A: In the context of HA2, an NPC can also be an extra character that a player has to help tell his/her own story.  For example, though my main character is Sheila Rantil, for my storyline I may bring in another character, such as Seth Aestas or Marisa Ikana, and have him/her help fight alongside Sheila.

NPCs are not allowed into official events, such as Slaying the Spider; the reason for this is that the event would be cluttered with characters, and the Royal Guard(s) (affectionately known as RG) do not want to deal with that many people.  Given the fact that events are epic and tend to draw in a lot of members, it's quite understandable that NPCs are banned from events.  Besides, the completion of an event equals TP, and your character has to earn it; getting help from an NPC is cheating.

However, if the Game Master (GM) allows it, NPCs can be brought into other people's stories.  For example, Rose Hillmound is the main character in Force of Gold (at least until FoG VIII is over, and then it's back to Sheila), but Alpha, the GM of the topic, has allowed me to bring along Sheena and Haru Veilmist, two of my NPCs, to help the topic move along.  Before you bring in any NPCs, you absolutely should talk to the GM about it; otherwise, complications will arise, dulling the experience of HA2.

Q:how do you fight??
A:how one goes about fighting depends on if they use stats or not.  If it's a stat-based battle, say what your character is doing, just as long as the action they take is within the rules.  Then you wait for the GM to roll to see if you (and/or anyone else) hit.

If the GM is holding an RP battle, then it's essentially the same thing, except there's (kind of) no exception to what you can do.  If you want to, you can have your character magically cover himself in flames and tackle your opponent; of course, the GM still gets to say if you hit or not.

Answered, and somebody correct me if I got it a little bit wrong.

Also, I figured I would just use the HA2 names instead of the forum names since those change.

I think you should have received an e-mail by now.  If you let me know what your username on HA2 is, I can send RG a reply and ask him to take a look at the matter for you.

Also, I would like to expand on the "What's an NPC" question.

In the context of HA2, an NPC can also be an extra character that a player has to help tell his/her own story.  For example, though my main character is Sheila Rantil, for my storyline I may bring in another character, such as Seth Aestas or Marisa Ikana, and have him/her help fight alongside Sheila.

Also, why isn't this stickied?  It's a FAQ; FAQs are important.

I demand stickiness!

Aren't you already a member there, BaconWarrior?

Anywho, how one goes about fighting depends on if they use stats or not.  If it's a stat-based battle, say what your character is doing, just as long as the action they take is within the rules.  Then you wait for the GM to roll to see if you (and/or anyone else) hit.

I'm pretty sure that could use some clarification. ;)

I have a question.  Where are the rules? O_o

I don't understand this, and it seems like it might be at least a little fun.

On the right side of HA2 (dark brown bar), there are three links.  The top one is a map of Hyrule.  The second one is the Rules Set (which is what you're looking for).  The third one is Farore's Wind, and it takes you back to North Castle Courtyard.  The last one is a dice roller for the GMs who don't have dice or any other random number generator.
