We've had to read this book in English, and I thought it was a great book. We also learned about all the controversy surrounding it, so I just wanted to know if anyone else has read it and what your opinion on it was. I think it's worthy of being called one of, if not the best pieces of literature in the history of mankind. I don't think it was written as racist; in fact, I think it's anti-racist.
I read it back in 11th grade, and I was supposed to read it for American Lit. II (emphasis on supposed to). I stumbled a bit over the dialect and I had to ask my dad what some of the words meant. Good thing he was a self-proclaimed hillbilly. He might've beat me up if he hadn't called himself one. :P
yeah, most of the kids in our class won't read it, they use sparknotes because they don't want to put any effort into trying to understand the slave dialect. I found it really easy, it just took ten pages or so. I can speak it now ::)
Yeah, everyone in the class says it's boring and such, but they aren't even reading the book! Yeah it's gonna be boring if you're reading a summary of it...
