Title: Should Youtube be shut down?
Post by: darkphantomime on June 22, 2007, 01:45:33 PM
Has anyone really taken the time to read Youtube's Terms of Use (http://youtube.com/t/terms)? Some of what they say is pretty ridiculous. Though a lot of it is a bit confusing and little more than legal jargon, it boils down to 'all things of 'copyrighted' material will be deleted, user discretion, blahblahblah, etc, etc...'

Okay, be honest, will the average person take the time and read it?  8)

Probably not.  But, that's the way people are.

I say yes. I mean, yes, it's important to a lot of people, their rules are just ridiculous, though.

I say yes unless they get another owner than Google. If anyone else noticed, all of the bad things began when Google bought Youtube.

They're probably just afraid of being sued.

...But who would sue Google, seriously?

Actually, I doubt anyone would try.

Having  bad rules is NOT ANY reason to shut down any site. Thats like shutting down a water park for not allowing you to bring caned drinks.

Well, the rules there are out of control. And let me give you a theme park example for you, Vash. In California, a theme park is so heavy on rules they have one that forbids you from screaming on the roller coasters.  ::)

I say no, mainly becuase I love the site, if not the rules. I will not give up a good site just becuase it has bad rules.

I think it needs to be fixed, with its terms, but its a good place for people who want to just post theirselves singing and whatnot.  ;D

As said earlier, this is not Youtube's fault, blame Google, the owners. Despite how they know no one will ever sue them, they insist on making millions of rules that interfere with the viewer's enjoyments. If they had different owner, however, that is different.

Actually, my statement was meant to be ironic, but I still dont think it should be shut down.

I wish instead JQ put new (aka better) owners choice, that would have been better than downright delete.

These days, the fear of any corporation on the internet is getting sued. Not just Major or Minor, but ANY. So 9 times out of 10, they'll end up honoring requests, because the alternative would mean going to court. Even if they don't get sued, they'll still end up paying a lot of money (Both sides will) with court costs and all, and I guess that's the one thing they want to avoid. Court trials aren't exactly the best thing for one's reputition.

This is a good point. Now, back on topic, this all seems off topic to me (is it just me?)

I don't want it shut down, I just want different owners than Google.

I agree with Whocares. I don't like it was companies buy other companies. Kind of reminds me of what happened on Wayne's World.

No, any owner besides Google would be better. It could instead be partly owned by the Japanese anime companies, so that the matter over anime would be over with. And they should also stop deleting LittleKuriboh's videos. He has directly stated that Takashi or whoever owns Yugioh, so it is no longer copyright.

YouTube isn't just for anime, Whocares. There's other stuff on there, you know.

Jesus H. Christ, otaku really get on my nerves sometimes. ???

No kdding. There are other sites dedicated solely to anime.

The problem with the japanese owning youtube would be that they still wouldn't favor it, I think. They'd probably try to make a fee mandatory so they'd be able to watch anime... At least that's what I think.

One of the few places I can easily watch episodes or find the intros of some of the best shows ever (Go watch God, the Devil and Bob NOW!). Found the "Twins of Destiny" intro a few days ago. Man, I love that show!  Also, it's a great place to post funny vids, AMVs and whatever you can think of.

The place is great, but indeed should be less strict.

Actually, I don't want YouTube to be owned, but I don't want it to shut down. I like the idea of how if you load a video, it stays loaded for the rest of the day, even if you click out of the window. And after you load a certain video, it doesn't take as long to load the next time you do it.

I once read a post, which I think was from here, that said Youtube won't delete AMVs. Well, incorrect. They just destroyed a very large number of MAR AMVs, must to my disastifaction.

WEll, my bad. Maybe you should consider OTHER video sharing sites, like dailymotion or others. Youtube isn't the only site out there of its kind.

That is for the best now, it seems that Google-Youtube has gotten out of control with rules. Yes, rules are important, but they largely overdid it. I mean, AMVs, they aren't episodes at all. If they just delete AMVs because of how they have scenes from animes, then by now it is clear they have gone TOO far.
