Title: Any relation?
Post by: Mysterious F. on July 02, 2007, 02:14:31 PM
Does anyone think that somehow Kaepora Gaebora has any relationship to the Owl in LA?

Yes. It's the representation of Kaepora Gaebora in Link's mind.

But the LA Link is presumably the ALttP Link, and he didn't even know Kaepora Gaebora...or any talking owls, for that matter.

I think it's just Nintendo's old habit of recycling characters at work again.

Oh yeah, true....Well, it could have just been that Owls represent Wisdom, and the Owl always gave him advice.

Ironically, owls symbolize wisdom, but they're actually quite dumb; large eyes make the brain case rather small.

Vultures or crows would make for a better talking bird companion, in my opinion.

Yes, but they're giant, talking owls. (http://i125.photobucket.com/albums/p55/Commodore_Axilon/Forum%20Crap/teacher.gif)

Yes, they aren't smart animals, but by appearance owls actually look like one of the smartest of the bird family.

I'll say this for those who don't remember, but the owl was later revealed to actually be part of the Wind Fish. Not a dream of the Wind Fish, but part of the Wind Fish.

(Well, I personally thought crows/ravens looked smarter... but hey, that's just me.)

Well of course; a dream is a part of you, if you think about it. It's a part of your sub-conscience that manifests itself into a fictional reality.

It could be the Wind fish's memory of Kaepora Gaebora, though.

Possibly, but the Owl is DIRECTLY part of the Wind Fish, not oart of it through the fishes' dream.

What does that even mean? Elaborate, please.

It could be the Wind Fish's consciousness trying to wake itself up, and guiding Link to help it do so.

He got eaten. That or its a representation of a body part. Probably the wings. Or perhaps the gizzard.

Suppose the Wind Fish is very old. Suppose he has known a Link and Kaepora Gaebora. Could be that in order to help Link wake him, he used KG's appearance as "physical" manifestation for his active conscience. After all, he remembers how KG helped and guided Link, he knows that works well, and thus does things this way.

Thanks for clearing that up Marlin Perkins. Anyway, crows and vultures were already established as enemies in LOZ. Plus its just a general stereotype for smart birds.

Ah, but Marlin Perkins was better with reptiles... anyways.

Yes, elaborate, Whocares. The Wind fish has an owl as part of it's body? I don't remember seeing that bit when I beat the game...

Its the first animal expert I could think of.

I think what Whocares is talking about is that the Wind Fish knows what is going on, and is using the avatar of an owl to tell this to link.
