Title: Superband Topic
Post by: Howl on September 16, 2007, 02:50:27 PM
This is for HNS because I was reading a post. Post you favorite bands, song, and lyrics here, and even post the songs in a link! Have fun  :D

MOD EDIT: Alright, Howl had a good idea, so now all musical/band topics (Besides the 'what are you listening to' thread, that's different) should be discussed here. If anyone makes a load of topics about songs or bands, they will be asked to stop, and warned if they persist.

Ah, so you had it illegaly? *calls cops*

Anyways, I'm stickying this, so from now on please don't make topics about bands and such. I'll understand once or twice, but if it's anything like what Jdog was doing we will consider it board spamming and warn.

Great idea by the way, Howl.

Well if you paid to download it, you should be able to download it again for free.

I love Face Down, although I like the version without the video, it actually is a different song with different arrangement.

idk, Itunes is really stupid, for some reason you lose every song you get and you can't just re-download them for free, you have to pay again, which is a real rip off!

I misread this topic's title and thought that someone stickied a topic about the movie Superbad.  ;)

Anyways, I have quite a few bands that I listen too.  Most of them are classic British bands though.

I've only got one I really like to listen to, and that's The Beatles. If you've never listened to their music, you need to. If you like their music, you've got a whole musical world you can explore, not to mention each member's solo projects.

Yeah, I don't have a lot of interest in seeing it. I do, however, love the movies the Beatles made. "Help!," for example, is a wonderfully odd movie.

My favorite band is Breaking Benjamin, but I like a ton of other bands. The reason I like Breaking Benjamin, is because I like every song I've heard from them, save for one song maybe. I recently finished this Breaking Benjamin graphic (http://i91.photobucket.com/albums/k287/ZeldaVeteran/bbs.jpg) as well. But like I mentioned before, there are many more bands I enjoy listening to, like
-Papa Roach              -My Chemical Romance
-System of a Down      -Ill Nino
-Yellowcard               -Underoath
-Disturbed                 -Sum 41
-Linkin Park               -Megaherz

It's been a long day living with this
It's been a long time since I felt so sick
I took a long walk straight back home
I could've walked back to San Francisco
I used to long for time alone
I used to long for a place of my own
and I'm losing faith in everything
I'm lost, so lost, I'm lost at sea, you'll see

I used to long for broken bones
I used to long for a casket to call my own
I never had a problem facing fear
but I'm done, over and dumb my dear and

Oh mercy me
God bless catastrophe
There's no way in hell
We'll ever live to see through this so
Drive yourself insane tonight
It's not that far away and I just
filled up your tank earlier today
(Yeah!)

Long? You speak of length with a chiding note
but dare to see as those that gloat
that what I have heard may surpass
surprise and understand in due mass;
I here have a recording thus
of which of one track and movement of lengthier trust
of half an hour in total this
and that's just the beginning in due witness.

If I gave you the truth, would it keep you alive?
Though I'm closer to wrong
I'm no further from right
And now I'm, convinced on the inside that something's wrong with me
Convinced on the inside, you're so much more than me, yeah
No there's nothing you say that can salvage the lie
But I'm trying to keep my intentions disguised
And now I'm, deprived of my conscience and something's got to give
Deprived of my conscience, this all belongs to me, yeah

I'm beaten down again, I belong to them
Beaten down again, I've failed you
I'm weaker now my friend, I belong to them
Beaten down again, I've failed you

The deception you show is your own parasite
Just a word of advice you can heed if you like
And now I'm, convinced on the inside that something's wrong with me
Convinced on the inside you're so much more than me, yeah

I'm beaten down again, I belong to them
Beaten down again, I've failed you
I'm weaker now my friend, I belong to them
Beaten down again, I've failed you (2x)

I'm beaten down
I'm beaten down
I'm beaten down
I'm beaten down

Another dream that will never come true
Just to compliment your sorrow
Another life that I've taken from you
A gift to add on to your pain and suffering
Another truth you can never believe
Has crippled you completely
All the cries you're beginning to hear
Trapped in your mind, and the sound is deafening

Let me enlighten you
This is the way I pray

Living just isn't hard enough
Burn me alive, inside
Living my life's not hard enough
Take everything away

Another nightmare about to come true
Will manifest tomorrow
Another love that I've taken from you
Lost in time, on the edge of suffering
Another taste of the evil I breed
Will level you completely
Bring to life everything that you fear
Live in the dark, and the world is threatening

Return to me
Turn to me
Leave me no one
Cast aside
You've made me turn away

Also, NIN is a good band. I've been listening in particular to My Chemical Romance a lot lately, but it's strange, I don't really like them. o_o Some of their songs are good, but...

Seriously... I don't think anyone hates this song XD
------------------------------------

Just a small town girl, livin in a lonely world
She took the midnight train goin anywhere
Just a city boy, born and raised in south Detroit
He took the midnight train goin anywhere

A singer in a smokey room
A smell of wine and cheap perfume
For a smile they can share the night
It goes on and on and on and on

Strangers waiting, up and down the boulevard
Their shadows searching in the night
Streetlight people, living just to find emotion
Hiding, somewhere in the night

Working hard to get my fill,
Everybody wants a thrill
Payin anything to roll the dice,
Just one more time
Some will win, some will lose
Some were born to sing the blues
Oh, the movie never ends
It goes on and on and on and on

(chorus)

Dont stop believin
Hold on to the feelin
Streetlight people

Don't stop Believin' -Journey

Despite the lies that you're making
Your love is mine for the taking
My love is just waiting
To turn your tears to roses

Despite the lies that you're making
Your love is mine for the taking
My love is just waiting
To turn your tears to roses

I will be the one that's gonna hold you
I will be the one that you run to
My love is a burning, consuming fire

No, you'll never be alone
When darkness comes I'll light the night with stars
Hear the whispers in the dark
No, you'll never be alone
When darkness comes you know I'm never far
Hear the whispers in the dark
Whispers in the dark

You feel so lonely and ragged
You lay there broken and naked
My love is just waiting
To clothe you in crimson roses

I will be the one that's gonna find you
I will be the one that's gonna guide you
My love is a burning, consuming fire

No, you'll never be alone
When darkness comes I'll light the night with stars
Hear the whispers in the dark
No, you'll never be alone

Huh.  Now I feel like I have to post here, since this topic is for me. ;)

Michiko Naruke is made of win.  Listen to any song from Wild Arms 1 (and it's remake) through 3 (I highly recommend Filgaia or Curan Abbey, both from Wild Arms Alter Code F), and you'll see what I mean.  She's a contributing composer for Brawl as well, so Brawl's music will be even more win. :D

Advanced Wind, US Vocal Version, from Wild Arms Advanced 3rd
A change in time;
I finally made up my mind.
I raise my hand from beneath the shifting sand
And embrace the winds of change.

Suddenly, everything is up to me.
The pages turn, flashing full of memories.
I can see it all too clear;
The time has come to face my fear.

And there's a fire burning in my heart,
Just shine when all is torn apart.
And I will make it through this desert storm,
Safe and warm.

My shield is strong;
I'll take my chances here now.
Bring on the fight;
I'll find a way to win somehow.
No, tomorrow's no regret.
I'll risk it all for this brand new day.

Hard Rock Hallelujah!
Hard Rock Hallelujah!

The saints are crippled
On this sinners' night
Lost are the lambs with no guiding light

The walls come down like thunder
The rocks about to roll
Now bare your soul

All we need is lightning
With power and might
Striking down the prophets of false
As the moon is rising
Give us the sign
Now let us rise up in awe

Rock 'n roll angels bring thine Hard Rock Hallelujah
Demons and angels all in one have arrived
Rock 'n roll angels bring thine Hard Rock Hallelujah
In God's creation supernatural high

The true believers
Thou shall be saved
Brothers and sisters, keep strong in the faith.
On the day of Rockoning
It's who dares, wins
You will see the jokers soon'll be the new kings

All we need is lightning
With power and might
Striking down the prophets of false
As the moon is rising
Give us the sign
Now let us rise up in awe

Rock 'n roll angels bring thine Hard Rock Hallelujah
Demons and angels all in one have arrived
Rock 'n roll angels bring thine Hard Rock Hallelujah
In God's creation supernatural high

Wings on my back
I got horns on my head
My fangs are sharp
And my eyes are red
Not quite an angel
Or the one that fell
Now choose to join us or go straight to Hell

Hard Rock Hallelujah!
Hard Rock Hallelujah!
Hard Rock Hallelujah!
Hard Rock Yeah!

Rock 'n roll angels bring thine Hard Rock Hallelujah
Demons and angels all in one have arrived
Rock 'n roll angels bring thine Hard Rock Hallelujah
In God's creation supernatural high

Hard Rock Hallelujah!

Hard Rock Hallelujah -Lordi

That's true.

Hey, by the way, on the way home they played this song called 'Azure Swayed Socks' or something like that, some new guy named Pelvis Resley. He sounds pretty good, but I haven't heard of him before, he's probably Indie.

Well, I was browesing the new release section on itunes, and they have a new Disturbed song called inside the fire. really hardcore and amazing. You guys should check out Disturbed if you haven't already, lets just say their song Stricken stars on guitar hero 3. :D
Title: Re: Superband Topic
Post by: Fishalicious on March 30, 2008, 06:42:40 AM
And Rain of Blood is also on there, and it's not really that good.

Though, I have to admit, I like Disturbed and Slipknot's songs. I tend to like old school heavy metal songs-not the screaming stuff you have now, I mean like Metallica, Iron Maiden, Black Sabbath, etc. etc. etc.
Title: Re: Superband Topic

Title: Re: Superband Topic
Post by: Fishalicious on March 30, 2008, 06:14:37 PM
Actually, they replaced the drummer and/or bassist. Load onwards is just... bad.

Metallica is nothing without the original drummer, and the bass is what makes Metallica... well, Metallica.

Our Lady Peace did a similar thing, replace their drummer, and I tend to gravitate to the older stuff, still. Though Raine's lyrics are still amazing, even with different drumming- "And we ignore it, just like the sunny days, because we're all dumb and jaded."

Bright Eye's Conor is the same way-the lyrics just get to me, especially "First Day of My Life" and "Bowl of Oranges."

Before you judge this song, listen to it, and try to perceive what its saying. The beginning doesn't grab you, and pull you into the song, the middle does.

- - - - Go into the Water... (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H6bzXhUS2YQ) - - - -

We call out to the beasts of the sea to come forth and join us, this night is yours
Because, one day we will all be with you in the black and deep
One day we will all go into the water

Go into the water
Live there die there
Live there die

We reject our earthly fires
Gone are days of land empires
Lungs transform to take in water
Cloaked in scales we swim and swim home

We are alive, and we'll metamorphasize
And we'll sink as we devolve back to beasts
Our home is down here, and we've known this for years
We must conquer from the sea, we build an army with water steeds

We'll rise, from our depths down below
Release yourselves, drown with me
We will conquer land with water

Gone are days of land empires
Lungs transform to take in water
Cloaked in scales we swim and swim home
We swim home
We swim home

Also, I'm pretty sure we created and stickied a music thread for you; why aren't you using it?  Is it not good enough for you?  Do you think you're better than it?  Man, what a jerkface thing to do.  You better go apologize to the Super Band Topic right now, or I won't let you borrow my sniper squirrels.

I wouldn't care; I don't even see how saying, "Oh, I have other things I'd rather listen to first" can be taken offensively.  The only disappointment would be that I have one less person to talk to about whatever it is I posted the thread about.

Everyone likes at least one. Name it. Or two or three. Or five.

I like Eleanor Rigby and For The Benefit of Mr. Kite! off of the album "Love," there's something about the added beats that make them oddly appealing. Unaltered, I really like I Am The Walrus, Come Together and I Want You (She's So Heavy).

And 'Meddle' by Little Boots.

Electric feel is good, but I love Kids.

like:
"Back in the Mud" by: Bubba Spaxxx
"Bitter Sweet Symphony" by: The Verve, fet. Jay Z.
"White and Nerdy" by: Weird Al
Papa Roach if he counts.
Some of Eminem's stuff.
other than that, no rap for me. :)

I actually like quite a bit of rap. As long as it has at least a bit of substance behind it then I'll give it a go. My favourite rap artists are probably Dizzee Rascal, Eminem, Kanye West and N-Dubz.
But it's far from my favourite genre of music.

I suggest "Lia" They're a really good band that does a lot of Anime themes.

They're very good at getting emotional responses from their music. A really good example is "Toki wo Kizamu Uta" which, taken into context is enough to make anyone cry until they shrivel up from the lack of water.

On the topic of bands and cool music what do you do when you find a really really cool song? Do you milk it for all  the awesomeness it's worth or do you rarely listen to it in fear you might wear out the awesome?

Well I might as well post a band name here for the sake of it.

Euphonius.

Neat band that consists of 2 (sonetimes 3) people.

Not many of you would enjoy them though. But I do and that's all that counts.

I do something sort of in between.  After I've listened to the song 10 - 15 times I try not to listen to it as much, usually only when it comes up using the "shuffle" feature.  It works pretty well for me.  The songs that I thought were awesome last year are still pretty awesome.

Just thought I'd add some information about my most recent musical exploits.

Since I last posted, I've rounded out my Weezer collection. I now have every one of their albums. Their latest, Hurley, was great -- better than I had anticipated, in fact. They've revisited the kind of power-pop style that the Green Album was centered around, and it fits them very well. The other two albums I picked up by them previously, Make Believe and the Red Album, were also both fantastic. Surpassed my expectations, for sure.

Another group I've begun taking an interest in is the B-52s. Someone was playing Rock Lobster over voice chat in Team Fortress 2 a while back, and I liked the song, so I looked it up on YouTube and listened to it again. I loved it! I listened to some more of their stuff, as well -- also excellent. I decided that since I was gonna be buying Hurley at Best Buy the next day anyways that I'd look for a Greatest Hits album, and I found one. I enjoyed it thoroughly, so I decided I'd order their first two albums from Amazon.com. Can't wait for them to get here! :D

Then today I went to the local record store and I bought the remastered Beatles' Past Masters. It cost $18 (and I can get a new copy at Walmart for $20 >_>), but I had filled out one of their stamp cards, good for $10 in store credit, and since it was high on my list of priorities for slowly recollecting the Beatles' catalogue (mainly because I really like the stereo versions of some of their older material), I bought it. I ended up getting a like-new used copy for only $8. Not even Amazon could beat that! :D

Vampire Weekend: White Sky (Cecile Remix) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kxj2F8qU73g)

This song is addictive like seriously. I'm not a fan of the original song, or even Vampire Weekend for that matter- but this is seriously chill. Awesome mix, and it's like seven minutes long!

I've recently gotten into this group. I bought both of the CDs they -- an EP from 1998 and a full album from 1999 -- and they came in the mail yesterday, and I can honestly say I'm pretty impressed. It's different from the kind of music I'm used to listening to -- more... soft, I guess. But I like what I hear. I recommend you all give them a listen.

Wow, I thought I posted here more recently than this... Guess not.

Let's see... since I last posted I unearthed my copy of Wolfmother's first album. Listened to it, got addicted as all hell to it. Seriously, it's amazing, go find a copy and listen to it. I also got Cosmic Egg for my birthday -- also very good, but I think I like their first album a bit more. Nonetheless I'll be sure to pick up any new material they release.

About two weeks ago I picked up the first album by a little-known-nowadays band called Veruca Salt, "American Thighs," from the local record store. I'm normally not much into girl groups (and I'd consider them such even if half the group is men, since the two vocalists are women), but I enjoyed the hell out of this album. It has kind of a Blue Album-era Weezer feel to it, but overall it's unlike anything I've really listened to before. I like it, but my friends have had mixed reactions to some of the songs I've had them listen to. Guess they're not for everyone...

On Tuesday I picked up System of a Down's "Toxicity" because I really liked Chop Suey! and Aerials (and I had the former stuck in my head after hearing it played at a Rock Band contest on Sunday), but even though the album turned out different from what I expected based on those two songs, and I'm normally not much of a fan of metal, I enjoyed it quite a bit overall. Great album to test out my new stereo with once I get it installed in my car, if nothing else. :P

It's been about a year since I posted here, so I'm going to talk about music.  Quite some time ago I purchase Lacuna Coil's album Comalies (2002).  Overall I thought it was a very good album, and the songs "Entwined", "Unspoken", and "The Ghost Woman and the Hunter" are so full of incomprehensible win I almost died.  I also brought two of the older Deftones albums, White Pony (2000) and Adrenaline (1995) which were also very good.  My most recent purchase was Thirteenth Step (2003) by A Perfect Circle.  That was the first album from this band that I've bought and I'm glad I did.  I really like the songs "Pet" and "The Noose".

Also, I've got a new music video coming out.  I'm gonna be doing it downtown, in the city.  It's going to be a rock video.  You know, people keep going "I don't like rock; I hate rock bleblebleblublehbleh."  Well I kriffing love rock, okay?  You know?  Next to nu metal it's probably my favorite genera of music.  I KRIFFING LOVE NU METAL!!!!!!!!!  But rock is awesome too.  But um, anyway.  Uh yeah.

If someone had told me a year ago I'd be into System of a Down I'd have thought they were crazy. Yet here I am.

Thursday I drove to Best Buy and bought two more of their albums, self-titled and Steal This Album! (Glad Best Buy had them, too. My car kind of asploded on me on the way there, so if I had gotten there only to discover they weren't there that would suck.) And you know what? I was pleasantly surprised -- I ended up liking them both much better than I expected, though I suppose like Toxicity I didn't know just what to expect. They're much heavier in general than what I normally listen to (they're also the only two CDs I own with Parental Advisory stickers on them XD), but for whatever reason I really enjoy their sound. Money well-spent and welcome additions to my music collection.

Ahh, good. Another System convert. :)

System of a Down is one of my all time fav's. There's a lot more to their music than most people think. Sometimes, it's unbelievably deep. Also, if you like System of a Down, you also may want to check out Serj Tankian's solo albums. They're a little different, but still worth a listen if you're craving more System.

Heh, since writing that post I rounded out my System collection and bought Mezmerize and Hypnotize. FANTASTIC pair of albums. I actually liked Mezmerize enough that I ended up buying two copies of it. Blame the fact it comes in two different kinds of packaging and my collector's urge on that one. I gave the spare copy to my sister.

They're great music no matter what mood I'm in. Feeling awesome? ROCK OUT. Feeling pissed off or depressed? So are they, and they sympathize. One of the things I've begun doing lately is taking my car out on some of the dirt trails and down to the gravel pit near where I live, and listening to them while I drive makes me feel utterly unstoppable. I haven't gotten so into a band... probably since I discovered The Beatles. And while The Beatles are still my all-time favorite band, THAT is saying something. Now that they're officially no longer on hiatus I'm hoping they'll get in a recording studio again sometime in the future and make some brand-new stuff.

As for Serj's solo stuff, my sister's had a copy of Elect the Dead for years now. I'm gonna borrow it from her.

Also, a few weeks ago I picked up a copy of Tool's "Aenima." It's a pretty intense listening experience. I like it.

NOT ENOUGH DISCUSSION IN THIS THREAD

"Elect the Dead" is awesome. Copied it to my computer for my listening convenience. I picked up Serj's "Imperfect Harmonies" a while back as well and it's also fantastic. Like, imagine rock music, but instead of a rock band, there's an orchestra. Really interesting combination and it sounds great.

I also borrowed my sister's copy of A Perfect Circle's "Thirteenth Step" and it's simply awesome. Ripped that to my computer as well. I liked it enough to pick up their first album, "Mer de Noms," today. I'm not allowed to listen to it until my sister's gotten to, though. Fair enough, I suppose, they are kind of her band, even if I did buy it with my own money. >.>

I bought Tool's "Lateralus" today as well, and holy crap, it is AMAZING. So glad I picked it up. ^_^

I've been thinking about getting a copy of "Mer de Noms" as well.  It's been a while since I've purchased any new music, so I think that might be the next album I get.  But yeah, "Thirteenth Step" was a really good album.  As I mentioned several posts above, "The Noose" is probably one of my favorite songs on that album.  I really like how they layered the pre-chorus on top of the chorus starting at around the four-minute mark on the track, that was totally epic.

Now that I've had a chance to listen to it I can honestly say Mer de Noms is pretty awesome. I think I still like Thirteenth Step a little more but it was still totally worth the money.

On Tuesday I bought Scars on Broadway and Tool's "10,000 Days."

For those unaware, Scars on Broadway is a band composed of System of a Down's guitarist and drummer. They only released one album, but it is awesome. Feels just like a System album in a lot of ways -- really shows you how important of a piece Daron Malakian is to that group both as a songwriter and a vocalist. Fair warning, though, the Parental Advisory label is well-deserved.

As for 10,000 Days, I was most certainly satisfied with that as well. I think I still like Lateralus the best of the three Tool albums I have but 10,000 Days is definitely a close second. "Vicarious" and "The Pot" are probably my favorite tracks off this one.

A few weeks ago I lucked out and found Tool's "Opiate" at Best Buy, and after that I went a few doors down to Barnes and Noble and picked up "Undertow."

Opiate is pure gold, straight-up, but my favorite track has to be "Hush." Undertow is a great disc as well.

I've also become utterly obsessed with Aenima. I keep discovering new things I like about it. "Pushit," for whatever reason, is the one track I can't quit listening to lately.

Maynard is just... such a talented man.

Here are all my music purchases this year so far:

Tool - Salival

A CD/DVD set with live recordings and every music video they released up to that point. Got lucky and found a copy very cheaply -- most used copies start around $60 for the CD and DVD alone, but I got them for $20 after shipping. It arrived most conveniently the day Tool stopped in Reno -- the first stop on their Winter 2012 tour. I couldn't afford to see them so it was nice to have something new by them to listen to that day, at least. (My neighbor went, however, and she got me a shirt.) The live recordings sound just as awesome as the studio versions, and the (at the time) brand-new content is excellent.

Five Finger Death Punch - The Way Of The Fist

Wasn't sure what to expect out of this one. I liked a few of their songs after running across them on YouTube so I figured I'd take a chance on their first album. Turned out to be pretty good overall, but I don't know if I liked it enough to buy their other material.

STRFKR - Reptilians
STRFKR - Jupiter

Very interesting electronica, if that's the correct genre to classify them as, but I can't write out their full name without running the risk of getting a warning. Most of the tracks either sound like old-school video games straight-up or they're more traditionally-produced work with video game genes. Tons of fun to listen to and well worth the money.

Skrillex - Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites

I liked the title track, among a few others, so when I found it cheaply at Barnes and Noble I decided to take a gamble on it since he won three Grammys for it a few days prior. Give me something out of the ordinary to check out, at least. I ended up enjoying it a lot, and I gained points from my girlfriend for it since she loves it.

Skrillex - Bangarang

Went to Best Buy the day after I picked up SM&NS and grabbed Bangarang since it was also cheap. I enjoyed this one a lot too. I don't understand the hate on him at all.

Rage Against The Machine - Rage Against The Machine

Again, wasn't sure what to expect out of this one. Pandora kept playing tracks from this album, and while I loved the music itself, I couldn't really get into the more rap-style vocals at first. They grew on me, though, and the entire album turned out to be fantastic. Maynard James Keenan does back-up vocals on one track so it inadvertently became a part of my Tool collection as well. Album cover is disturbing as hell, though.

Chevelle - Wonder What's Next

Another Pandora-inspired purchase. These guys sound a lot like A Perfect Circle and that alone was enough to spark my interest. Fell in love with "The Red," and since the majority of the reviews I've read say the album said track is on is the best way to get into them, I decided I'd pick it up since it was also rather cheap. Freakin' awesome album.

I desperately need a bigger CD rack.

MORE THINGS

So my music collection continues to grow. Pandora is a magical place, in my humble opinion -- it knows me so well and it's recommended some fantastic things to me. I am so so glad I decided to try it out. The most notable recommendation is quickly becoming my latest obsession: Deftones. Holy crap I am in love with this band. I bought three of their albums recently -- Deftones, White Pony, and Diamond Eyes -- and I've enjoyed the hell out of all three of them. I'm pretty sure this means I have to buy all their material now. I'm not even sure how to describe their sound other than it reminds me a lot of A Perfect Circle. An interesting thing to note having mentioned that: Maynard, one of my mostest favoritest musicians ever, co-wrote and did vocals on "Passenger" from White Pony. Good grief that man gets around.

Speaking of A Perfect Circle, I bought Emotive as well. IT'S SO GOOD I DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY EVERYONE SAYS IT SUCKS

Another recommendation from the most wonderful Pandora was Coheed and Cambria. Picked up IV: From Fear Through the Eyes of Madness at the same time as Diamond Eyes and I really enjoyed it overall. I am making a note to check out more of their material.

Last but most definitely not least, I picked up on CD an album I've only owned on vinyl for years -- George Harrison's All Things Must Pass. If you haven't listened to this album I very highly recommend it -- it's absolutely amazing. The remastered audio makes everything even better, and the bonus tracks are spectacular. The packaging's really neat too. I'm really disappointed in myself for not buying it sooner -- every time I thought about buying it on CD I either forgot when I had the funds or had something else come up I needed the money for. When I was at Best Buy to pick up Diamond Eyes and IV I happened to see they had it in stock -- in the years I've been thinking about buying it I'd never seen it there until that day. I took that as a sign.

Next on my to-get list: King Crimson's In the Court of the Crimson King and Nine Inch Nails. SOON.

I really, really need a bigger CD rack. I have stacks of CDs all over my desk currently. ;~;

Their music is addicting, isn't it?  I have all their albums except Around the Fur.  Saturday Night Wrist was the first album of theirs that I purchased, and I liked it, but I wasn't really too crazy about it.  Then Diamond Eyes came out and I was like, oh what the hell, guess I'll pick that up too, and then that got me hooked.  Pretty soon after I went and got Adrenaline and White Pony, then Deftones some time after that.

Deftones is incredibly addicting. I now own all their studio albums. I found Saturday Night Wrist on vinyl at Hot Topic on clearance for $10 so I grabbed it. It was awesome. Found Adrenaline at Best Buy a few weeks later. Loved it. Bought Around The Fur and a copy of Saturday Night Wrist on CD from Amazon a few weeks ago, too. Loved them. I CAN'T GET ENOUGH. And they're working on a new album, too! Should be out this Fall! I am excited.

Speaking of albums out this Fall, Tool is supposed to have a new one out around the same time. I can't even tell you how much I'm looking forward to that!

Another upcoming album: Serj Tankian is releasing another album, named Harakiri, in July. Looking forward to that too!

A few other random pickups: When I bought Adrenaline I also picked up Foo Fighters' The Color and the Shape, mostly because I heard Everlong in Guitar Hero and loved it, plus I just think Dave Grohl is awesome. I enjoyed this album. I also picked up Seether's Finding Beauty in Negative Spaces last month and it was also a pretty good album. When I bought my last Deftones stuff from Amazon I grabbed Veruca Salt's first EP, which they put out in 1996 between their first and second albums. It's killer, and it's a really interesting listen since the style sounds like a perfect hybrid of the styles from their first and second albums. Still never got In The Court of the Crimson King, however, and I now have to curtail my music buying since I need money for another car. :c

I've enjoyed what I've heard of him.

Recently I've gotten very much into Rage Against The Machine. I've had their first album for a while, and I adored it, but I picked up "Evil Empire" and "The Battle of Los Angeles" a few weeks ago and they're both killer.

I also bought Serj Tankian's new album, "Harakiri," yesterday. I give it a thumbs-up. Serj delivers again!

I finally started picking up some deadmau5 stuff. My ex listened to him a lot so I got exposed to him regularly, and as mentioned, I liked what I heard, but never looked into him much until now. I picked up for lack of a better name on a whim when I was at Best Buy on Saturday and I really liked it, especially "Moar Ghosts n Stuff," "Ghosts n Stuff" (I love Rob Swire's voice), and "Strobe." Picked up 4x4=12 the next day -- also really good. Favorite tracks have to be "Some Chords" and "Raise Your Weapon."

I don't know if it's been mentioned yet, but I'd like to bring up fun. for consideration. They've been one of my favorites since early 2010.

A lot of people probably know them from their hit We Are Young, but they have more music that's honestly a lot better.

Aim and Ignite is one of my favorite albums ever, and Some Nights, while a bit different, offers a new sound.

I personally recommend these songs:

If anyone actually gives them a shot, lemme know what you think!

I've currently only heard their two hits. I don't care for "We Are Young" for reasons that Todd in the Shadows covered perfectly. It's just kind of rambling and it's stuck in an awkward area where it's too light to be a party song but too loud and fast to be a quiet reflection. Just meh. I like "Some Nights" but it loses points for the awful auto-tune solo, which is unbearable.

I don't dislike autotune, but there are some ways that you Just Shouldn't use it, and that was one of them.

One great song does not a mostly horrible list of 100 justify.

The problem is that the only reason most of that stuff is there is not because it was actually good -- it's only what was chosen from the mass-marketed, lowest-common-denominator, popular music. There was a good deal of excellent music made during this time, but you'd never know it based on lists like this.

Basically sums up all of my feels on the matter. I'd be lying if I said I hate Lady Gaga though. She really isn't THAT bad.

Well, it's VH1. It's practically the television channel version of the radio station that only plays the current hits.

Anyway, there are certainly other great songs besides "Hurt," and by the way I will never stop being amazed that it actually made it. "Crazy" and "Hey Ya!" are probably the two most critically respected songs of the previous decade, and others, like "Crazy in Love" and "99 Problems" and "Rehab," also received almost entirely positive reception. A few others, like "Seven Nation Army," can't even accurately be described as hits - that only peaked at 76 on the Billboard Hot 100. And some of them are just plain fun, like "Hot in Herre" and "SexyBack." Sure, the number of great songs is inexcusably low, but they are there.

Besides, it's not like the other decades were perfect either. You know what topped the Billboard Year-End Hot 100 in 1996? "Macarena!" The 70's had it's fair share of duds, like "Afternoon Delight." A lot of the slower stuff from after WWII up until the mid 60's is as dull as watching molasses slide down the side of the Empire State Building. It's only the great stuff that we remember. And some of the bad stuff doesn't seem quite as awful now because we're looking at it from a different era. "Sure, that's how they did it back then." we think to ourselves. Meanwhile, we're stuck in years of our own era, whereas we tend to look at other eras, which makes the number of great songs from the era seem greater in comparison.

VH1 also did lists for the 90's and 80's. I think they would both get more or less the same number of 5/5's that I gave to the 00's list. I mean, the 80's list had "She Blinded Me with Science!"

Also, Lady Gaga is amazing. <3

Adele's theme song for Skyfall has been posted online. It's the best Bond theme since Tina Turner did one for GoldenEye.

New single from The Rolling Stones, "Doom and Gloom." It's kind of great.

I purchased Koi No Yokan by the Deftones yesterday.  Great album, especially the last song on the album (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SeR7K58oZnQ), it just owns everything in the universe on so many levels.

Oh hell yeah! I preordered KNY, so in addition to the CD I also got a matching T-shirt and lithograph. And honestly? This is my new favorite Deftones album, hands-down. I love everything on it, but those last three tracks in sequence are my personal favorite at the moment because they work together so well. Worth the wait, this album.

KNY is still my favorite Deftones album. Every time I listen to it I just... hehdnbakpqoemfnbdhsi it's SO GOOD

A while back I bought "Good News For People Who Love Bad News" by Modest Mouse. Pretty great album. Blame Rock Band for that one -- it had me play "Float On" like 50 times. :v

I also bought Fatboy Slim's "You've Come A Long Way, Baby." And dammit, it is a fun album to listen to. Recommended.

For Christmas I got Seether's "Karma And Effect." Love it love it love it. That's 3/3 albums of theirs I own that were awesome, so I think this means I need the rest of their stuff too now.

Guys, I just recently discovered jazz, and I actually can't stop listening to Kind of Blue, Miles Davis.

It's excellent.

One of the best albums ever!!!!!!!

Miles Davis is absolutely amazing. You should listen to some of his other stuff. Just know that, from about 1970 onwards, he gets really weird.

Oh hey, I've never actually posted in this thread.

Shpongle - Amazing psybient music with great grooves, excellent for any occasion.
Edenbridge - The best power metal I have ever heard, ever.
Ronald Jenkees - Makes techno, but he's more of a one-man operation.  Check him out on Youtube (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=giAzopSy-g0).  Not sure what his deal is but he's got sweet beats.
The Meters - The godfathers of funk.  Some seriously funky dudes.  Tons o' funk.  Srsly.
The Police - you're never too old or too young for the Police.
Blackguard - For when you really need black metal
Amon Amarth - Viking metal, can't go wrong there.
Dream Theater - Prog.
Jordan Rudess - Keyboardist of Dream Theater, arguably the backbone of the band.  He was accepted into Juliard when he was a young teenager, and his solo projects will melt your mind.
Derek Sherinian - Previous keyboardist of Dream Theater.  He's got some really good (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tx1olQHSQVU), too.
Birdy Nam Nam - Not quite sure what to call them, but their stuff is really psychedelic and catchy.
Apocrypha - A band I was in for a while.  They're not popular by any means but they've got some really cool grooves and if they ever tour near you you should catch a show.

Just to name a few.

It is a very good album.  I put it right up there with White Pony and Diamond Eyes, my personal favorites.

On a related note, I just realized that iTunes ripped me off (sort of).  I pre-ordered KNY, and they gave me the censored version.  I didn't even notice until, like 10 minutes ago, because there aren't that many obscenities on the album.  I'm still kind of irked about it though because they didn't clearly mark it as a censored album, which I thought they did.  Seriously, you can't censor art, even if it only cuts out like, two words on the entire album.  That's like smearing dog crap all over the Mona Lisa; it's just wrong.

Man, that ain't right D: That sucks.

On a related note, I picked up the Hot Topic-exclusive clear vinyl edition of KNY a few weeks ago.

Also, one of my favorite bands ever that nobody's heard of, STRFKR (I would be breaking the forum rules if I posted their full name), had their upcoming album "Miracle Mile" leaked last week. They ended up just releasing the digital version early on Monday for those who preordered it. I was one of those (I preordered the vinyl edition) so I was able to download it legitimately.

AND HOLY GOD IT'S GOOD. Best album of theirs yet. My favorite tracks are "Leave It All Behind," "Last Words," "Golden Light," and "Night Rite," but they're all winners, I think. Highly recommended; y'all should give 'em a listen because they're not quite like anyone else out there.

Vinyl's becoming more and more popular as time goes on, believe it or not. Lots of artists are putting out vinyl editions of the albums they release.

I got my copy of the aforementioned STRFKR album today, actually! More than a week before its street date :3 Here's a high-res picture of the discs:

Wow. That trend really surprises me, considering the effect digital distribution has had on physical distribution in recent years.

Still, nothing quite like those feelies, especially if they look freaking pretty.

A significant number of vinyl records you buy nowadays actually include a code that'll give you an MP3 copy of the album. This one did, as has every record I've purchased from this label, on top of the instant download they give you upon checking out. It's kind of the happy medium between having a copy for home listening and a digital version for use on-the-go or on your computer. Plus you get a 12" x 12" (or larger, in the case of this album) piece of artwork you can look at. I still like buying CDs, however, since they're more convenient to play on the road and the audio quality is higher than any MP3 version, but buying vinyl that offers an MP3 copy is perfectly acceptable. I still plan to pick up Miracle Mile on CD at some point in the future, but I don't need to currently.

As for why vinyl is making a comeback... I really can't say. I honestly think it's largely a fad on the consumer end, since records are "cool" and "retro" so they're the "in" thing right now, but they do have unique audio properties that make them a whole different experience to listen to, which is what the artists like. CDs are pure data, so they never degrade over time, but a vinyl record is a literal physical representation of recorded sound waves, so the way the sound is interpreted gives vinyl a quality to it I can't really describe that CDs lack. The best I've been able to liken it to is vinyl being like a solid oak table in a library, whereas a CD is like a stainless steel counter in a laboratory. Both perform the same function, but they have different feels.

Either way, while I love my CDs, I love my records too, and I wouldn't get rid of one of the other for either. But there just ain't nothin' like unwrapping a brand new record. Even if it's not technically due out for another week or so, it's like traveling back in time and taking part in a tradition that's been around for half a century and almost died, but was revived.

So for my birthday I got tickets to see STRFKR, because they're coming to Reno in June! I'm excited. And playing with them is a duo called Wampire.

I like 'em! I preordered their album (on vinyl, naturally) and it ended up being quite good. They have kind of a STRFKR-ish vibe to them, though with less emphasis on the electronic aspect. Kind of an 80s feel, too. Cool stuff.

I also bought the limited-edition 45 they put out, which has a Kraftwerk cover on the B-side, and since I'd been curious about Kraftwerk for some time anyway I decided to check them out too.

I'm completely addicted now. They were way ahead of their time, and having listened to their entire catalog I truly think they're brilliant. Part of what's so magical about them is they make a kind of music that hasn't become truly prevalent until now, but back in the 1970s and 1980s, so listening to this computerized, synthesized material and knowing it's been around for so long, it's almost like a trip through time. Now I'm trying to acquire original issues of all their records. I've managed to get three so far: Electric Cafe, Trans-Europe Express, and Autobahn. Still waiting on the last two to arrive in the mail, but Electric Cafe sounds utterly amazing on vinyl. Hoping all goes well with eBay auctions for Computer World and Radio-Activity.
