Title: The Future of Kingdom Hearts
Post by: MagmarFire on September 20, 2007, 03:58:39 PM
Well, Kingdom Hearts fans, at the Tokyo Game Show this year, Square Enix has revealed three new KH games to be released on handheld systems.

The first is called Kingdom Hearts: 358/2 Days (apparently, it's pronounced "three-five-eight days over two"). It's supposed to follow Roxas's story shortly after he was created. This is supposed to be on the DS.

The second is called Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep. As you can probably guess, the story focuses on the three soldiers in the KHII secret trailers. I think this is going to be on the PSP.

The third game is called Kingdom Hearts: Coded. I think it focuses on King Mickey, and I also think it will be released on mobile phones.

The titles may change as time goes by, but I doubt it. Anyway, discuss.

Ick, the PSP? I was really looking forward to that particular game too. :(

Hooray!  Three games and no Sora.  Slap in the face to the fans if you ask me.

I don't think so, really. Coded has a virtual Sora as a character. Sure, it's not the same, really, but...

Square Enix also said that the games are in very early stages of development. So who knows? Sora might have a pivotal role in a couple of them. Coded takes place right after KHII, and the virtual Sora awakens on Destiny Islands. Or so I think...

meh... I was hoping this would be about Final Fantasy, but I guess not. Frankly, I was hoping for them to anounce FFXIII for a system other than PS3.

Oh darn. I have no PSP. :( Ah well. I have a DS, though. Do you know when they'll be out?

Nah, they were only announced today. And as I said before, they're still in the development stages, from my understanding. So that means we still have a while to wait, my friend. :'(

JDog, they just announced the games.  With Square Enix's timetable for putting out games, we'll be lucky to get it by next Christmas.

Mobile phone games are more prominent in Japan, so it's likely that the phone game is for Japan-only release.

Well I guess it's kind of good that it won't come out any time soon, because the chances me getting a PS2, OoA, and Kingdom Hearts I, plus the new game are less than zero.

I won't be surprised if that's the case, really. You know how Square Enix is sometimes "regionalist," like how it didn't release Kingdom Hearts: Final Mix outside of Japan and how it might do the same with Kingdom Hearts II: Final Mix+. :-*

I mean that I only get up to two games a holiday, not that OoA is for the PS2.

Do you have a link to the site where they have more information about the new games?

There really isn't that much information on them now already. However, I am looking at this webpage (http://www.joystiq.com/2007/09/20/tgs07-kingdom-hearts-birth-by-sleep-impressions/) currently for one of the three games, so maybe you could use it for some insight?

EDIT: And hold the phone! I found something very, very fascinating... On this page (http://www.kingdomhearts3.net/), it says something about a fourteenth Organization member! :-[

OMFG A KINGDOM HEARTS GAME FOR THE DS!!!

I am excited by this! Magmar! Post a link, stat!

I always wanted to know what happened to Roxas before he was cretaed... maybe some questions will finally be answered.
Title: Re:News from Square Enix...
Post by: Commodore Axilon on September 21, 2007, 06:43:41 PM
Roxas before he was created would be Sora, and I believe there are already three games detailing that particular character's story. (http://i125.photobucket.com/albums/p55/Commodore_Axilon/Forum%20Crap/linkwink.gif)

I'm assuming you meant "after he was created, but before the events of KHII," yes? :P

Thank you for making me feel like a retard.  :P :P

And yes that's what I meant. I mean KH2 left us with like an empty story gap, and it's about time we find out what went down!

Then again... curiousity killed the cat(s)...  :P

I dislike Roxas.  The beginning of KH2 with him was sooooo incredibly boooring.  He doesn't even have enough character in my opinion to warrant his own game.

Well, granted, the beginning was very boring, but from the few moment swe had seen with him as an Organization member, he looked like quite dynamic a character.

No, because I'll just kill you in your sleep and steal the games from you. :P

I read a rumor online that it's possible that KHII:FM+ will be coming to North America at the beginning of January. I'm crossing my fingers in hopes that it's true!

Isn't Kingdom Hearts 2: Final Mix the game with Chain of Memories in 3-D? I could swear there was a Jap only release that had featured CoM in 3-D....

If it's true and that comes to America as well, I don't know if I could handle it. How much fantastic KH news can one kid handle?
Title: The Future of Kingdom Hearts
Post by: MagmarFire on May 09, 2008, 02:37:42 PM
Guys, it's been over two years since the last new Kingdom Hearts game. Birth By Sleep, 358/2 Days, and Coded are still in development, but I figured that it'd be good to bring this topic back up. The main reason being...these two things on Wikipedia that piqued my interest greatly.

Look at this screenshot:

What do you see? If you say "cottage in the forest," then you don't need to get your eyes screened. Congrats. :-P

Seriously, though, you see a cottage. Now take a look at this screenshot:

This is a screenshot taken from none other than the classic film Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs (or Dwarves, for you Tolkien lovers out there; you know who you are). Compare the two, and what do you see? They're rather similar, are they not? The layout of the building seems nearly identical in both, with only a few minor differences. What does this mean? To me, it means that there's a really good chance that Birth By Sleep will feature Snow White.

Here's another thing--a quote from Sleeping Beauty's Wikipedia article:

QuoteIn the future Kingdom Hearts game, Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep, Terra is seen fighting his way through [a] forest of thorns while heading for a castle, which concludes that the setting of [ Sleeping Beauty ] will be featured in the game. There is also a cutscene where Terra is talking to Maleficent.

Well, that's rather self-explanatory, isn't it? We hear Terra finding his way into not one, but two, new worlds! This may give the fans a double dose of nostalgia: Kicking butt in worlds from classic Disney films with a kick-butt-looking character (KH1, much? ^^ ) and going into new worlds from classic films. Doubly great!

And it's also been said that Birth By Sleep will take place ten years before the original, and the worlds should reflect the time difference in the worlds, such as a teenage Hercules. You remember him, don't you? Of course you do.

Okay, discuss, discuss. :)

Very nice screenshots, very nice. To me, that looks like an organization character with the Keyblade, or soemthing along those lines. I have to say, it looks pretty fun, and graphically, it looks nice as well.
Title: Re:The Future of Kingdom Hearts
Post by: MagmarFire on June 01, 2008, 12:49:02 PM
Not sure if Terra really does have ties to the Organization, actually. It's possible that this takes place well before Xehanort thrust himself into darkness, creating Xemnas in the process. I think that old guy in the trailer is referred to as "Master Xehanort," but...if that's the Xehanort we all know and "love," why does he look so freakin' old!? O_o
Title: Re:The Future of Kingdom Hearts
Post by: MasterKeyX on June 01, 2008, 12:52:09 PM
I wish I could answer you, but I can't. For one thing the story for Kingdom Hearts gives me a massive migraine if I talk or think about it too long. So damned confsuing soemtimes.

Maybe it isnt Xehanort. Maybe it's somebody else. Or maybe it's him, but like.. ailed for some reason by something. Maybe darkness...? I don't know.

And on a randoms sidenote, I FOUND MY KH2 GAME DISC! I WAS SO HAPPY!  ;D ;D ;D  :P

GUYS!!!! BIG NEWS!!! THIS NEWS IS SO HUGE THAT IT'S COMPELLING ME TO TYPE IN ALL CAPS!!!

Okay, nevermind. It's still really huge, though...at least for me, anyway.

Okay, we know that Square Enix doesn't like releasing the Final Mix versions of the games outside of Japan, and while that greatly irritates me, something unprecedented has happened. It was revealed before that a PS2 remake of Chain of Memories was bundled with Kingdom Hearts II: Final Mix in a package known as Kingdom Hearts  II: Final Mix+. While we'll still need to import Final Mix to play it, there's something more...

IT'S THE NORTH AMERICAN BOX ART FOR THE GAME RE: CHAIN OF MEMORIES!!!!! :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

I am truly ecstatic about this. Ever since it was announced to be remade, I wanted to play it, and come around December 2, 2008, I'll be able to get my chance without having to import it! Some of you may hate the card game system, but this is still freaking amazing. :D
Title: Re: The Future of Kingdom Hearts
Post by: DW on September 20, 2008, 12:34:40 PM
I loved Chain of Memories. Very much so. While I'm definitely considering getting this...well, I'm wondering whether they're actually going to change anything from the previous game to this port. I mean, if it's still the same story with 2-D graphics and no new secrets or anything...well, I've already 100%-ed the game (which I rarely ever do, so you can tell I really liked it) and there wouldn't be much of a point to buying this one as well as the GBA version.
Title: Re: The Future of Kingdom Hearts
Post by: MagmarFire on September 20, 2008, 12:55:04 PM
It's essentially the same story, but there's more content added, including the following:

1.) Improved graphics and soundtrack (obviously; this is the PS2 we're talking about)
2.) Voice acting in the hallways between floors(Haley Joel Osment returns to cast Sora, too! I think I can get used to his sounding older while he's in his original attire...)
3.) More cards and sleights
4.) New cutscenes and battles that weren't in the original game, including a third battle form for Marluxia and a boss battle against Zexion in Reverse/Rebirth
5.) Theatre Mode (after completing the game)
6.) The Reaction Command returns from KHII

...and likely more!
Title: Re: The Future of Kingdom Hearts
Post by: DW on September 20, 2008, 01:28:30 PM
So they're making it 3-D then? That may be reason enough for me to buy it then...hmm...I'd just gotten over my KH obsession as well...I think I'm going to go play KH2...wait, I'm at the wrong house...gah.

Should Sora have his older voice though? I mean, this takes place right after KH and a year before KH2, doesn't it?
Title: Re: The Future of Kingdom Hearts
Post by: MagmarFire on September 20, 2008, 02:43:20 PM
It's already been made into 3-D; it was released in Japan last year.

And yes, it does, but meh. Even the original Japanese version, I believe, had the KHII version of his voice.
Title: Re: The Future of Kingdom Hearts
Post by: DW on September 20, 2008, 04:09:37 PM
Grah continuity issues >:-(

It does make me a bit hesitant though; what if the card-style gameplay doesn't hold up in 3-D? I mean, the sleights could miss so easily now...
Title: Re: The Future of Kingdom Hearts
Post by: MagmarFire on September 20, 2008, 08:18:07 PM
Not if you can lock on to your enemies, and you can. Most sleights seem to have at least some range anyway.

Gah, double post, but this is kind of important. It would defeat the purpose of creating a new topic anyway if I can just salvage all the goodness of before. >>

Okay, here's the information. New 358/2 Days trailer. It obviously shows single-player action and dialogue (in Japanese, no less, but whatevs), but it also shows more of multiplayer. And two incredibly epic things have been confirmed from this trailer--one of them made me literally go crazy with happiness, and another one just made me go, "What the heck?" Both are awesome, though, and deal with one concept.

Completely epic stuff first. Xion, the adorable Nobody whom no one really knows identity-wise for sure, is PLAYABLE!!! HECK YEAH, SON!!! From previous screenshots, one could possibly expect her to excel in magic, ala Aqua, but she has been seen with her Keyblade, too. We probably could've expected it, but darn, it's still fine! Now she'll hopefully get to the lofty rank of being my main! Get ready, Link! Now you won't have to be the only obsessed-over main of mine! ^_^

With Xion come two more characters, as well: Donald and Goofy. Seriously. When I first saw their HUD photos, I was like, "What!?" In a good way, though. But yes, that's right; you can also play as characters outside of Organization XIII. Odd, yes, but hey, now everyone can be happy! Plus, think of all the potential! You don't have to have just Donald and Goofy, but maybe you could have Riku join the brawl, too. (Riku/Xion team-ups, anyone? :P :D )

Big news, yeah? Now show me how pumped you are!!!

...Please...?

It does have multiplayer, and like The Subspace Emissary, you'll be able to unlock more characters as you go. However, I don't think it has Download Play. Come to think of it, it doesn't even have Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection capabilities, which I'm quite disappointed in. DX

A KH3 is way overdue. They keep releasing the handheld games as a sort of filler. Granted, they add to the overall plot, but honestly, I don't care. I want to see what happens in the main story, especially since that cliffhanger at the end of KH2.

That would kinda be lame to be based on... At least that's what I think

I'm hoping for a world based on "The Hunchback of Notre Dame."  Or, failing that, "Robin Hood."

Both would be awesome.

As would a twisted version of Bridge to Terabithia. Yes, I am still hoping for that.

Well, it did have a very bittersweet ending, so it's understandable.

He might eat you, so be careful.  :P

I want a world for The Aristocats. I think it'd be fun, hilarious, and probably a challenge... i bet they'd make some nice puzzles there for solving.

So, I was at GameStop, looking at release dates for the DS.  Kingdom Hearts Re:coded was in there for April 1, 2011.  However, the release date is subject to change, so KH fans, keep an eye on it.

Meh, I really don't pay attention to GameStop's tentative release dates. I'll wait for confirmation from Square.

Prepare to jump for joy, HnS. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IbuM89wfZeQ)

Also, YES, NEW GAME ANNOUNCED.

Kingdom Hearts: Zero Point. Apparently, it takes place between Birth by Sleep and Kingdom Hearts. What could happen? :o

WARNING! If you haven't finished Birth by Sleep, don't even think about looking up information about this game.

That game looks epic. 8D

I'm kinda confused, though. The link you posted is called Dream Drop Distance for the 3DS, and has the KH1 Sora and Riku. o.o

*hugs Mags*

But yeah, you're going to need to clarify about that Zero Point business.

As for Dream Drop Distance, it will be set between coded and Kingdom Hearts III (which Nomura will begin working on once Final Fantasy Versus XIII is released), and the story will be connected to KH3.

Apparently, there's a reason why they're in their original attire, but that fact has yet to be disclosed, as far as I know.

Doing so would spoil Birth by Sleep. I strongly recommend refraining from looking up information about it until you've beaten the game's story 100%.

As well as 358/2 Days, coded, and Birth by Sleep. This must be the "future game" that those three games were once said to be connected to prior to 358/2 Days' release.

... I'm still confused.
The link you posted is for a game named Dream Drop Distance.
You're talking about a game called Zero Point.
DDD has Sora and Riku at the same age as KH1.
So it can't be after Sora's older in KH2...
But then again, this wouldn't fit with BBS either.
... Which is why I'm still confused. @_@

It looked epic none the less... And for all we know it's a future game about a flashback explaining what's happening later... If that makes any sense lol

I'm talking mostly about Dream Drop Distance. While we don't know much about either, I'm pretty sure we know more about 3D than ZP.

Same clothes != same age. While they do look younger, that might be a laziness thing on the part of the modelers. At the same time, I heard that the trailer is meant to be a mind screw and that many of the cutscenes you saw there may not be in the final game at all.

ZOMG i would be kinda pissed if they did that... Well I guess not as much as long as they kept what the game play how it looks

Nomura says to "expect the unexpected." They could very well change how it looks before it comes out.

Well it could be... But what if the changes are great but make the game play awkward.... I mean it took me a while to get use to the play style on Birth by Sleep... Looking at the video it looks like they took some of that game play and mixed it more with the old... so I just hope they don't change it too much...Ya know?

I thought BbS had great gameplay, though. It pretty much made button mashing a suicide effort. Plus, KH needs variety from time to time, and we certainly have been getting that lately, so I don't personally feel it was for the worst.

Don't get me wrong I loved Bbs game play as well, However if you make so many drastic changes to a game it's kinda like it should be an entire new game line... Adding a little update here and there is awesome, and putting in new stuff is great but I still want to feel like I'm playing the game that made me love the series to begin with... I don't want to have to learn an entire new game play style for every single KH...

I'd take a huge shakeup over risking something getting stale myself, but that's just my two cents. ;D

I mean, look at Zelda. It did go from a top-down perspective to a third-person perspective, after all.
Title: Re: The Future of Kingdom Hearts
Post by: Pea-Tear Griffin on February 06, 2011, 10:05:22 PM
Though this is very true the game style of zelda still stayed pretty much the same... I mean of course there is the changes between top-down to 3d game play change how you move and react the overall game was still the same (with the exception on Zelda 2...I hate that one). I'm just afraid because of all the crap sequals of some of my fave games I guess

Well with this one supposed to be about how they become Keyblade masters I guess it would only justify some major game-play changes, due to them really learning how to use the darn things finally XD

You could argue that the overall game for BbS is still the same, too. After all, you play as three people with giant keys and explore different Disney worlds. XD

You mean learning beyond cutting skyscrapers in half? Dang! O.o ...Actually, it'd be cool to see that again. XD

That would be amazing to see again but I mean I want to see them do some even more mind blowing because if they could do all the moves from Final Form with no training with the weapon just image
