Title: Threories for Fierce Deity's Mask
Post by: dan_the_man on February 21, 2006, 12:47:47 PM
I thought it might be cool to make a thread on how the fierce deity / Oni Link mask  came to be. ive heard he was once a powerful person and even that he was a god (deity) punnished by din for bieng evil. Was he an evil magician that saved himself from death by sealing his spirit in the mask? , was he protecting people,  an acient sage ,  why was he on the moon? whatever. I want to hear what you think! ;D ??? ;D

Hmmm... just thinking... just because its fierce doesnt necessarilly mean hes evil. Bt one thing i CAN say is WHOA! why cant we use the fierce mask anywhere else in the game

He is evil. Oni translates to forest daemon/ogre. And you can use the mask in other boss battles and, thanks to a glitch, Clock Town. ;)

lol, i dont know what to say... i think ill leave it ambiguous.
Bak to topic, it seems a strange move to effectively make link evil with oni link. And is he truely evil if he defeats majoras mask?? possibly majora and whatever the fierce deity mask was before it was a mask had dealings in the past...

Post by: Davros on February 25, 2006, 01:25:14 AM
No need to be quite so harsh dan_the_man :-\
Anyway, back to the subject: If the fierce deitys mask and Majoras mask did meet (as Marcamillian suggested) when they were no longer masks then where did their previous states come from? If Majoras mask was used by an ancient tribe lost ages back in history then the time when the masks were not masks must have been even earlier in time. This could be that they were around when the lands were being created by the goddeses. Could this lead to the masks being gods or demi-gods themselves?
Title: Re:Threories for Fierce Deity's Mask
Post by: Marcamillian on February 25, 2006, 01:29:22 AM
Hmmm interesting... i'm not sure how much i like the whole ... good mirrored with eil thing bt im gnna suggest it anyways... maybe they are evil versions of teh gods, and theres still one to be seen? perhaps the godesses left these demi-gods (which appear to be male.. .another side to things.. godesses female, demi-gods male) to look over the earth?
Title: Re:Threories for Fierce Deity's Mask
Post by: Davros on February 25, 2006, 01:34:05 AM
If they did leave the demi-gods to protect the earth then Majoras Mask didn't do a very good job! Unless of course it was told to protect Hyrule and it decided that Termina was a threat to Hyrule and thus decided to destroy Termina ( via a madly grinning moon)

just throwing it in there
u know what we need? a section containing the prologues to the games and the manula prologues... would make it that much easier to check theroys if you had somewhere with offically worded information to check against

- The Prologue -

In the land of Hyrule, there
echoes a legend. A legend held
dearly by the Royal Family that
tells of a boy...

A boy who,
after battling evil and saving
Hyrule, crept away from the land
that had made him a legend...

Done with the battles he once
waged across time, he embarked
on a journey. A secret and
personal journey...

A journey in search of a
beloved and invaluable friend...

A friend with whom he parted
ways when he finally fulfilled his
heroic destiny and took his place
among legends...

- Majora's Mask instruction booklet

- Opening Sequence -

Game begins with a black screen and in white letters the prologue above is told, word for word. As soon as the last paragraph fades to black, a fairy swish sound is heard. The screen lightens, and there are trees and fog, and then shows Link riding Epona slowly through the Lost Woods. He looks somber and half-asleep. Tatl and Tael appear, look at Link, then fly off, making a fairy swish sound. Link then looks around the area, as if he had never been this far into the Lost Woods before, or looking for the source of the sound just made.

T&T scare Epona, she rears back, throwing Link to the ground and he hits his head. Skullkid appears, T&T fly up to him, and he then congratulates him. He looks over at Link, and for a moment, seems to recognize him. He quickly dismisses it and walks over to him, then steals his ocarina. Skullkid plays a few notes then laughs, as T&T argue over it. Link wakes up, shakes his head, then stands up to face Skullkid.

This startles him and the fairies, and he quickly hides the ocarina behind his back. Link then tries to grab Skullkid, but he dodges and hops onto Epona. They start to take off, but Link hangs on to Skullkid's foot and gets dragged along. They go deep into the forest. At a sudden turn Link looses his grip and tumbles to the ground, and Skullkid, Epona, and the two fairies gallop off into a forest tree cave thing. You are able to play shortly after.

um.....duno what u ment exactly - but here are MM prologus

double post but totaly different 2 previous post.

you guys are kinda heading into my theory (havent thort it thru at all)
- the maskes may have been the goddeses brothers , just not as powerfull.the two brothers (mayby three?) could have been greedy for power and decided 2 rebel against the godess but beaten and punished for eturnity but being put inside masks? (weird i know)
mayby they were secretly gona take command of the gods themselves if they won and kill the other brother insted of sharing the power?

or mayby in the alternate reality of  ternima( it is ment 2 be alternate 2 hyrule) their version of the tri force are 2 masks (not neciserily good or evil - but it is the user that decides (like ganondorf and the T F o P)?

i duno - just some randome torts

U know... I've been looking at this wrong. We dont need to reference from the hylian history, but terminas.

i was reading anjus grannies stories, in the 4 giants story  there is an imp who was angry with the giants for leaving. and was banished... could this be majoras mask... banished to hyrule??

One reason I can think of is remember the original Zelda for NES? When he was at full hearts he shot light from is sword (or whatever that was)( like the diety does) and after he got the blue ring (the most powerful in the game) his tunic was white(like the diety).

why the hell was it on the moon?!?

maybe the masks are locked in eternal battle, two rivals that will take any side if it means the destruction of the other. Good and evil are only points of veiw. They are neither good or evil, simply foes whose reason for battle is lost to time.
maybe another reason for majora to bring the moon down on Hyrule, to destroy it's rival, the Fierce Deity's Mask.

not bad for something I thought up in 5 minutes.

Bah. Evilbob your knowledge of Zelda games is clearly not good enough in the Mm area... Next time you come over I shall "educate" you in the ways of Majoras mask. As for the Omni link idea, it sounds plausable. Though I feel there will be a connection to the fact that in many early Zelda games you could fire magic out of your sword when at full health.

Are you sure you are fighting the real boss TP zelda? If you are facing a white robed creature that looks like a member of the KKK with flaming swords that is the mini boss that you need to kill to get the light arrows. Simply stock up on fairys and slash away while wearing the bunny hood. You need to be fast as every now and then he flies into the air and dives at you. Roll out of the way and continue to slash. The real final boss is suspiciously easier. Just put on the giants mask that can be found in the stone tower when you turn it upside down. This makes you huge and you just have to hit the Twinmold's tails as the dive in and out of the sand.

Getting back on topic, Oni, or the Fierce Deity, could've been called fierce because he fiercely fought off evil.  When fighting Majora, both of them got their essences locked into a mask.  I'm aware that the name Oni is associated with evil, but I would like to point out that the oni were once considered good luck or something like that in Japanese culture.  Look it up on Wikipedia; that's where I read this little tidbit of info.
Title: Re:Threories for Fierce Deity's Mask
Post by: MagmarFire on April 29, 2006, 12:38:14 PM
Okay, if "Oni" was supposed to be good luck, why did Nintendo contradict that?
Title: Re:Threories for Fierce Deity's Mask
Post by: Davros on April 30, 2006, 12:01:34 AM
Perhaps it's a little clue as to where the masks originate. After all, it may be good luck, but good luck for whom? ( Also what is the sound of three hands clapping and if a tree falls down and none is there to hear it what colour is it?)

Oni were once considered good luck.  Now they are omens of bad luck, but parades in Japan still have people dressed as oni to scare them away.  So the Japanese already contradicted themselves; Nintendo didn't need to do that.  Davros also made a good point.  Good luck for whom?  Obviously, good luck for Link.

Or Majora, supposedly. I guess it's a mystery.

Hardly good luck for Majora's mask, he gets ripped to tiny pieces by large magic bolts of doom flung out of a sword.

Yes, if good luck includes getting hit by extremely large, magical snowflakes, then yes.  And talking about the Fierce Deity, might it be possible that he is actually a demon?  After all, gods don't get trapped inside masks, now do they?

Gods can feel human emotions, so I suppose they can get drunk, if that is what you mean.

But what on? As far as I can tell the closest to Alcohol in both Hyrule and Termina is Milk (weirdly enough).

To keep the games clean, Nintendo doesn't show any alcohol in the game.  The Hyrulians were probably told to stash all their booze in a safe place until filming was over.  And what with a darker atmosphere and an older Link, maybe TP will have wine, beer, whiskey, and ale in it.

Actually, yes. Look at the Four Giants; they were trapped in those masks for a while (and, yes, I do consider them gods, as they are the main protectors of Termina and that they're really huge).

Yeah, good point.  I do consider the Four Giants gods myself.  Do the gods have the same name as the bosses?

I wouldn't count on it, but it is a good possibility.

This raises he question, did the four Giants (As Gods) create Termina? Or was it someone/thing else? Or just the Goddesses' again (They might have been bored and made two lands, why not?).

Well, I don't think that Hyrule's the only country in the world. Holodrum and Labrynna are in that same world. I think that it's the work of the Goddesses, too.

Besides, I don't think EVERY god in mythology created the world. In Greek mythology, Gaia and Uranus created it and started an entire god ancestry line.

I'm thinking Termina's creation might be an accident, and the goddess just asked those gods to be there.  I wish Nintendo would have another game take place in Termina so we can find out more about it.  I think it could be a very important place in Hyrule's history.

The giants look like giant strawberries. :P
Why did the gods choose them to watch over Termina? They can't even lift the moon and there's 4 of them!
(Sorry if i'm getting off topic.) ;)

Termina was created accidently, When the Goddesses were finished with they left but some of there power floated around the universe creating paralal worlds, one of these worlds happens to be Termina. I personlly think that the Feirce Deity and Majora were both insanely powerful demons. But they fought against each other one day and the batte ended in a draw by sealing each other in masks.

I have something no one has ever thought of before. Something that only a crazy guy could think of. And watched Inuyasha 2 16 times. The FD mask is the culmination of the dark desires of the masks hearts, especially the deku mask, but with all their powers. The sword looks like the Zoras fins, he's insanely strong, because the armor looks super heavy, and it looks like some sort of wood. But they used Links body for the culmination of power.

Hmm, vintage thread.

I had an idea that the Fierce Deity Mask originated from the Ikana, as the other transformation masks originate from other civilized races in Termina.

I agree with Eralk Fang... she just got to the punch first. x:

Unless you want to consider the Gibdo mask as being the form from Ikana.... But that doesn't actually change you. If Oni was from Ikana, then... I don't know, but that place is a wreck, and if I remember correctly, it used to be the war grounds of the Garo. Perhaps he was the leader of a group? And he caused something to happen, and then they got sealed in masks. Thus, the Garo and Oni masks.

Wow, this thread is a year old! Well, I think the Feirce Deity and Majora had some sort of connection with each other. But I have a million theories on how they are connected.

i don't remember the Garo using ikana as a battleground. I thought they were like the samurai, and they served he king. except they were really determined.

Uh, no. The Ikana and the Garo were at war with each other. That was pretty well established in the game.

Yep, they ended up killing each other off. They're all undead in Majora's Mask.

This might sound odd but:

I think that Majora got into a battle with the fierce deity somehow. But since Majora was such a powerfully dark warrior, he might've beaten the Fierce Deity somehow. And then he used magic to turn the fierce deity's remains into a mask so he could use that insane power to take over Hyrule. But after the fight, Majora was much to weak to live, even with the fierce deity's mask in his possesion. So he used his remaining power to turn himself into a mask (kind of like a hibernation until he regained strength). That is why on the moon, he has the fierce deity's mask to give you.

Interesting theory. I've heard relation theories of Majora and the Fierce Deity similar to that--namely the battle between them--but I never, ever before heard of Majora putting himself (or herself, for all of you who think Majora is actually female) into a mask as a hibernation medium. ;)

Yes, the idea is prety goofy, but none of us really have any idea about Majora's past. Besides, if it was just a mask, it would just be a mask, not a transforming, attacking monster. Take a look at Majora's Incarnation, maybe that is whats left of him. And if the theory of Majora and the fierce deity's confrontation is correct, I think its pretty awesome how the fierce deity gets one last chance to defeat that monster. ;D
