We've actually been talking about that, so if you're willing to host, that's great. Although now it's delayed until February...grr...Oh well, my cousin's been GUARANTEED the game, so works for me. We can both enter, right? Even though we'll be using the same system? We use different characters and names...
Title: Re:SSBB tournament on forums.
Post by: RaphaelTMNT on October 24, 2007, 07:03:22 AM
Yeah you both will be able to enter sharing the same wii, as long as you both use different Mii's or names.

Alright then. So who else plans on joining? I'm thinking about making this a prize tournament...

TDC tourny.
Title: Re:SSBB tournament on forums.
Post by: RaphaelTMNT on October 24, 2007, 03:32:31 PM
Yeah a TDC tournament, not yoshi art that was a typing error. Anyway this will be an online tournament for the upcoming game Super smash bros brawl for the Wii. To enter you will need a Nintendo wii, and some type of connection to get your wii online. If enough people would like to enter we can put one together.

Yeah you have plenty of time to get your Nintendo wifi usb connector, there selling for about $10.00. Yeah that would be great if you enter!

Yea, hey, do they sell those at Gamestop? Because I had money to look for one, but I could not find one at the game stop I went to.
Title: Re:SSBB tournament on forums.
Post by: RaphaelTMNT on October 24, 2007, 04:13:06 PM
Yes they do sell them at gamestop, game crazy and all those other stores. I got mine on Ebay, it works great for online play and everything else.

yea, maybe I just didn't see it at gamestop, heh, tends to happen alot... and then they have it the next day.

You might not even need to buy one if you have wireless internet. If not you need to buy one though.

I'll be playing a bunch of Melee, I figure I'll probably still be using the Gamecube controller for the tourney unless I happen to be a natural with the Wiimote.

One, check for Wi-Fi in your home. However, it may need a password to hook up to it, so it may take awhile, I ended up asking the GeekSquad guy who installed our new computer what the password was.
Two, If you can't get Wi-Fi, just go with the USB thing.

And is it possible to make an online tournament? Or will we have to play a series of games and record the results ourselves?

Finally, one thing to say about the tournament...

I... Will... PWN YOU!
Title: Re:SSBB tournament on forums.
Post by: DW on October 25, 2007, 03:26:40 PM
We can do it completely online. Seeing as how we're scattered, the schedule may be a bit hectic to arrange. Although I seem to be the only West Coast here besides Baka... :'(

Anyways, I just thought of this; Is anybody able to record the matches?

Can there be 3 people playing on Wi-Fi? If so, the third could monitor the match to verify who won.

What will the USB connector do?

The USB device plugs into a free USB port on your computer and works with your computer's high-speed internet connection to create a Wi-Fi Hotspot that the Wii (or a DS) can connect to. I think the only catch would be that your computer would have to be on for it to work.

Anywho, I love the idea of having a Brawl tournament, and I think it'd be a heck of a lot of fun. The thing is, though, I have no idea when I'd ever get the game.

Hey don't worry about it dial up works great with online play when using the Nintendo wifi usb connector. I have high speed internet, but my friend has dial up and let me tell you the gameplay is still really good. We play Mario strikers charged online. I own the game.

Anywhay I can definately record matches if that is what everyone wants to do. I record Melee matches all of the time and put in my own mucic. Hey for the final match of the tournament between the top two players of the SSBB tourney, I'll even post it in the TDC forums for everyone to see. And yes three people can go online at once, so whoever is the ref of a match can just kill themself, and then the match will begin.

Alright so far this is how it is looking, for how many people are going to be entering the tournament. Also it looks like they have changed the names in brawl, so everyone will most likely be able to have a longer pen name then 4 letters.

Confirmed Smashers               Might join
1.RaphaelTMNT                     1.Magmarfire
2.Shikamaru Narra                  2.Fisk
3.Twilight hero
4.Dr.Napalm
5.ZT
6.Zelda veteran
7.Scotty
8.Jdog

If we can at least get 20 participants I'll begin creating some bracets. How it is looking so far, this will be a single elimination tournament.

We won't get anywhere near 20, maybe 10 if we're lucky. This is a small forum, and not everyone has a Wii.

Also, you can add my cousin, Scotty, to the list.

Count me on! I don't know if will get the game right away, but if I do, I'll enter as either Alex or MKDS (for mikaudes).
Men! If this tournametn works out I will have lots of friends in... my... friend... list::)
So, does anybody have a character in his/her mind yet, I'll definitely use the IC at least once, I still don't know if I'll go for the new ones yet though.

We will most likely give people time to get the game and practice, Mikaudes, don't worry. However, it would help if you posted your number and nickname in the Wii Code thread on this board, and added the people there.

How about we have a forum versus forum thing? Like, we have an inner-forum tournament for each forum, and the top three from each forum participate in a final 12-man bracket?

We might do that, but the thing is some forums have more participants than others.

Title: Re:SSBB tournament on forums.
Post by: DW on December 05, 2007, 07:28:00 AM
That's why we have those inner-forum tournaments to narrow it down to three, that way we don't have unequal amounts fighting for the championship.

Post by: MagmarFire on December 05, 2007, 01:47:24 PM
Or maybe the forum with the largest amount of members can have an inner-face-off to eliminate x number of players to make it all even, and then split both forum teams into a large bracket? That's how I thought an FVF tournament would be like...

Or we could just have unequal teams and just clobber the heck out of each other. That sounds good, too. :P

Yeah we may do forum vs forum, but will see about that. It is a good idea though.
Title: Re:SSBB tournament on forums.
Post by: DW on December 05, 2007, 03:21:01 PM
Thing is, it'd be easy to do a three-from-forum deal. Or maybe four, then we could fix it to have all the number 1s playing each other, then the 2s, 3s, and 4s,  then the winning 1 plays the winning 3, and the 2 and 4 play each other, then the winners of those fights fight for the championship.
Title: Re:SSBB tournament on forums.
Post by: MagmarFire on December 05, 2007, 03:33:38 PM
It might be easier, but what I don't like about it is that many of the people won't be able to fight in the "real thing." There's just...something about that that doesn't feel right...
Title: Re:SSBB tournament on forums.
Post by: DW on December 05, 2007, 03:54:21 PM
Or we could have inner-forum tournaments to decide which members go in which brackets, and have a championship bracket and a few other brackets based on skill level...

Man, you have confidence!
I just suck at Melee, I hope I can beat at least two or three guys, actually, I'm going to be under training on how to get the full potential out of the Ice Climbers.
Say, with every post you seem to get things more complicated, I say we just narrow down each of the forums players to a considerable number and then they can brawl each other.

And I really want to fight those who have even greater confidence than I!

It's kind of hard for me to have confidence when I'm about to fight a fast Wavedasher, thank you. Or a Waveshiner. Or a shffler who uses his or her blaster, not giving me time to recover, thereby unleashing complete boo-boos on me. :P

But the good news is that I won a 3-on-1 match against LV9 Roys today. With two lives to spare. Maybe that's a good sign...? ;)

Guys, it's not that hard. I'm saying we have like four or five divisions, with the top three from each forum in the championship division and the rest scattered through the other divisions based on skill.

Alright how about this, for each forum they will play other's from the same forum in bracets. The top 5 from each forum, advances to the finals bracets.

I rock the house pretty hard with the red plumber too. I'm also pretty skilled with Link, Shiek, Marth, Falco, and Mewtwo. But thats only in Melee. I have a feeling I'm gonna be good with Dedede, Pit, and Snake though in Brawl.

Title: Re:SSBB tournament on forums.

Sakurai gave us a choice, take the GC controller and stay in cubic land, or take Wii controller and see how deep the rabbit ho...
So what if he chose the GC, options are what make this game great!
I just rock with Ice Climbers, I know many players don't like them, but I'm one of the few that gets their true potential out, that is "two inuits are better than one". My friends say it's unfair that I use them almost as two sepparate characters, but hey, doesn't every character have something that gives them advantage?

It will work like this, the top two or three in each pool will advance to brackets, which will be single elimination. Best of three matches. Everyone can only use two characters, a main and a back up. This way no one has to rely on just one character.

On a more serious note, we should have time to unlock and practice with characters/stadiums to get acquainted with the game.  How about two months, like the thread originally suggests?  The game is just around the corner and we must decide on the details ASAP.

We also have to be able to get ahold of the game before we can all play it.

I reserved mine and I have $50 for the game.  Ever since 5 months ago.  I know.  I am SSBB crazy....

How about three months, because like Fisk said, some people may not have the resources available.

And Dr. Rabies, I am glad you share my viewpoint.  I think the white pikmin will have a good range since it is light and it has poison doesnt it?  That means it has good damage, but probably low health.
Title: Re:SSBB tournament on forums.
Post by: Fishalicious on January 12, 2008, 04:45:31 PM
Not necessarily high damage... it's more that the poison does more damage over time than the others.

It's like math. Let's say X is the slope, and it represents the damage over time. The y intercept is the initial damage:

Red = X + 10
Blue = 1.5X + 5
Yellow = 2X + 5
Purple = 15 (...it doesn't... latch on)
White = 5X + 5

...Sorry, I'm a math geek, sort of.

2 months is okay, actually. I might just have to bum it off of my friends. P:

...assuming any of them has the game for the Wii, 'cause you know, I think one of them has a Wii and that's it.

Oh, and it looks like I'll be up in Austin when the game comes out, anyway. XD

Anyway! I have a somewhat related question. Are Final Smashes going to be allowed? Or am I just blind and it's already been said?

I ask because...Link's Final Smash PWNS. End of story. :P

I'd like some time to try Ike and Marth if I get the chance, though. I've heard that Ike's speed was upped and his power is the same as in the demo. I have a feeling that Ike is going to be deadly. :D

If he lives in Canada, French could be his first language, which would explain the poor sentence structure...

I highly doubt this is the case, but there's always a chance.

Oh, and I should be able to buy the game on the release date. XD

Title: Re:SSBB tournament on forums.

So...you choose characters at random when you start playing the game?

I'm basically choosing out of loyalty. But if it turns out there's a character I'd rather have my first main, I'll change. Many of these are probably only tentative.
