Title: So I've heard...
Post by: JDog on October 24, 2007, 06:22:02 PM
I heard there was a new zelda game in the making for the Wii, I can't remember where, but I remember reading that someone said something about that, I know I did, at least I think I did, if so, can someone look into this for me and let me know?

Yes, there will be a Zelda for the Wii (supposing you don't count TP).  However, it's very unlikely that Nintendo has released any more information other than the fact that there will be a Zelda game for the Wii.

There was that future Zelda that was an April Fools.

But yes, they are DEFINATELY having it continue on the Wii. It would be stupid not to.

Yeah, the bigger games like this take longer to make than the 2D...so much more artwork because of the 3D environments...oh well...

yea, take SSBB, it was suppose to be released this month I think, but now its being released in febuarary(spelled wrong) but yea, the new one will probably come out fall of next year, maybe the year after it, never know with Zelda.

I would correct you, but then JQ would be all like, "ZOMG!  HNS is correcting Jdog!  He must be bashing on him! =O"

Seriously, though, Brawl was initially announced to have been released on December 3, 2007, but that was indeed pushed back to February 10, 2008.

But as for a new (major) Zelda game for Fall 2008, I doubt that.  That might be when they start announcing a new Zelda game, but that's not when they're going to release it.  In case you haven't been paying attention, that's not how Nintendo works.

Minor Zelda titles tend to be released in the spring/summer, while Major titles tend to be released around christmas.

Let's see...

Link's Awakening - 8/1993

Ocarina of time - 10/23/1998

Majora's Mask - 10/26/2000

Oracles were released in NA 5/14/2001

Windwaker - 3/24/2003

FSA - 6/7/2004

Minish Cap - 1/10/2005

Twilight Princess - November/December 2006

Phantom Hourglass - 10/1/2007

As we can see, Five of the games here were released in late fall/winter, while the rest had their time in spring/early summer.

Major and Minor are ternary phrases, but 3 of the 4 3-D games were released during fall, 4 of 5 if we include Phantom Hourglass.

It's a safe bet that the next Zelda won't be released in NA until At least Summer 2009,  probably fall 2009 though.

All of the above dates are for the NA releases.

Late 2009/early 2010 I think. At least, the next 3D game, but I'm not expecting a 2D game soon either (please, oh please, don't let PH kill the 2D TLOZs).

To Jdog, October 1 was the Phantom Hourglass release date.

I share your sentiment. I SO don't want my GBA to officially be obsolete. :-[

The GBA won't be obsolete as long as you still play GBC games and below.  It also seems that Disney keeps on releasing games for the GBA for some strange reason that certainly isn't related to money mongering. ::)

I do hope the new Zelda game though is going to be awesome, and if it is awesome, more awesome than Twilight princess and Ocarina of Time put together, that would be one amazing game.

Yeah, it would be something like Link to the Past...

Well, whatever it turns out to be, I hope it's not too difficult... Challenge is always good, but when games are too hard (like Zelda II hard), it goes from being fun to being enraging. Majora's Mask, I think, was perfect, difficulty-wise. It provided you with a good challenge, but whatever you came across, you could eventually figure it out. And if something was too difficult at the time, you could go on to something else and come back to it later. But most importantly, it was fun! If the game can combine challenge, fun, a great story, great gameplay, and great graphics, it could very well be the best Zelda game ever.

The more laws of time, space, and physics that are broken, the happier I am.  Take the Stone Tower Temple (MM) and Forest Temple (OoT) for example.  STT could be flipped upside down and Link could defy gravity.  The Forest Temple had those twisting hallways.  I want to see that again.  That, and more time travel.  Or at least more control over time.  A return to Termina, Koholint, Holodrum (especially the Tarm Ruins), and Labrynna would be excellent.  Hyrule is great and all, but it's time we revisit some other lands.  Perhaps some new lands as well.

Or to meet the fanboy in me, a cross between Fire Emblem and Zelda.  I would drool.  Shoot, I'd just drool over a Zelda game that's a strategic RPG.

Yeah, why not see Labrynna and Holodrum in 3D?

MC Escher ftw.  Zelda needs a little more MS Escher.  Quick!  To the HNSmobile!  We're off to Japan to talk to Nintendo about the next Zelda game!

While we're there, we can try to get them to experiment with a main character who isn't Link.  Honestly, what are the odds that every single hero Hyrule has is a boy named Link or looks like Link (coughTMCbackstorycough).  I bet the boy in Four Swords was Link or looked like Link.  If they want the Link connection to remain, then the main character could be Link's son or daughter.  And Link's wife could be someone who isn't Malon, Zelda, Nabooru, Ruto, Saria, Marin, Romani Cremia, Anju, etc.

What if it was the son of Rusl? You know, Colin? He was affected by Link, and they could make a great story with him, like maybe Link is killed in an attack, or he moves or something, and Colin has to step up to fight off the big bad new general.

Post by: Twilight Wolf on October 27, 2007, 10:13:02 PM
That would make for an interesting story...

You know something I'd like to see again? Temples/dungeons/whatever that you can go back and go through again after you've already beaten them. I love being able to do this.

Like in Majora's Mask, where you can defeat the boss as many times as you want.  Yeah, that feature continues to make MM the best Zelda game in my eyes.  Well, one of the features.

And hey, a hero who isn't a blood relative of Link?  Even better.
Title: Re:So I've heard...
Post by: DW on October 27, 2007, 10:40:50 PM
Yeah, but it would still have a relation to Link because of Link's influence on him..I think it sounds like a good idea...

Go play Freshly-Picked Tingle's Rosy Rupeeland if you want another hero. Apart from the fact you play with Tingle, it also refers to other heroes. Most notable would be Lyphos (who arguably is the one the Salona thought was the reincarnation of "their" ancient hero). Secondly, there is the Salona's unnamed ancient hero. And then we have Junglo and possibly Baron.
Not that she's a hero (yet), but I'm personally convinced little Aba belongs to Links'/one of the Links' bloodlines and I'd love to see her again (as well as the other kids).

Also, at least Darmani in MM had the status of hero as well.

My friend and I were talking on the bus about how they should make a game that's a remake of all the Zelda games make with Twilight Princess graphics. I doubt it will happen, but it would be pretty cool.

*coughAnotherLinktothePastcough*

Seriously though, I found a friend with a camera, I might start making videos about that.

Seriously though, a sequel to TP with Colin would be awesome.

Yeah, I don't think so. Colin was probably the least interesting character in the game (but that's not saying much! (http://i125.photobucket.com/albums/p55/Commodore_Axilon/Forum%20Crap/rimshot.gif)), and a whole game based on him would probably make mah head asplode from epic fail overload.

Also I don't see why everyone doesn't want Link to be the main character. I mean, isn't that the whole point? Nobody complains about playing as Mario in a Mario game, for instance.

Zelda's not in every game, though she's in the title...

*sighs* And? The fact that in 20 years there hasn't been a game titled "The Legend of Zelda" that didn't have someone named Link as the main character means nothing, I suppose?

Edit: That is of course directed towards Shikamaru.

As far as I know, the game hasn't seen a North American launch and I don't have the money or the will to import the game from Europe.  Trust me, I do want to play it.  Just waiting for a U.S. release.

Waiting forever, most likely. :'(

QuoteAlso I don't see why everyone doesn't want Link to be the main character.

I stick with Link as TLOZ's main character (FPTRR is awesome though), but it would be nice to see more (or hear more about other) heroes in the game. You know, knowing that Link isn't the only one Hyrule has to rely on.

I know what you mean, but seriously, if you want to play this game, I would just import it and forget about the U.S. release. I heard somewhere that FPTRR is selling as expected (or maybe a bit better), but I doubt FPTRR will ever be released in the U.S.

Well, there already is going to be a zelda game on the Wii fairly soon, Link's Crossbow Training, and it will be bundled with the Wii Zapper Shell, makes me want to get in now.
How about a game where you are a Zora, showing off your supremacy to those rocks and bushes? :D
I'd still be happy if Link just wore blue more...

Yeah, I was going to mention that, but you beat me to it. Oh, well. It sounds cool, though, even if it's just a spin-off game. It's supposed to be available this November, by the way. I think...

Maybe if it doesn't cost too much, I'll get it.

Yea, It wasn't that game though, I know that for sure, it was just like all the other kind of zelda games, probably take along time though for it to come out.
