Title: Ask a TDC VIP!
Post by: kamakaziplumber on November 12, 2007, 04:07:44 PM
Alright, since I see people have had some questions for me and stuff I'm posting a little "talk to the webmaster" topic here. I'll be watching it, so any posts you make will be answered ASAP by me. Hooray!  ;D

Feel free to post questions, requests, complaints, ideas, and the like here, so long as it's relevant and follows the forum rules, blah blah blah.

And don't feel bad if you have an honest complaint, I suppose I'll try to take it as constructive criticism. ::) Maybe.

So... go! Now!

What kind of experience do you have webmastering(?) forums?

Do you know Pearl?
Do you know C++?
Do you know CSS?
Do you know Javascript?
Do you know HTML?
Do you know BB Code?
Do you know the muffin man?

Yay first question yay!  ;D

Anyways, first of all, I don't webmaster the forum, I webmaster the main site.

To answer your questions in order:

No.
No.
Yes.
I have a book on it >.>
Yes.
Somewhat.

mmmmhm, do you need an updater for the main site?
Title: Re:Talk to KamakaziPlumber!
Post by: darkphantomime on November 12, 2007, 04:15:38 PM
KP was administrator of his own site, Mabe Village. It was more about content and didn't really have a forum.
Title: Re:Talk to KamakaziPlumber!
Post by: kamakaziplumber on November 12, 2007, 04:29:05 PM
Yes, Mabe Village was my site. It's down now, but if it was up you'd have no doubt about my webmastering abilities. Those who have visited it know what I'm talking about, alright.

And, we don't really need an updater right now... technically I'm the updater, as well as Alpha and everyone who's ever posted on the main page. So... yeah.

Oh wait, I think it was something like, only the main site page wouldn't view or something close to that. I don't really remember, he told me once, but I forgot.
Title: Re:Talk to KamakaziPlumber!
Post by: kamakaziplumber on November 12, 2007, 04:40:50 PM
It's down because my host did a server change and my files only got half-uploaded, then something else happened related to the server and my files were completely deleted. I have them, I just have nowhere to upload them right now. Maybe one day I'll get it back up. Someday...
Title: Re:Talk to KamakaziPlumber!
Post by: JDog on November 12, 2007, 04:41:44 PM
Oh, well, thats just the weirdest thing ever. Shouldn't your site go with the host completely when it switches?
Title: Re:Talk to KamakaziPlumber!
Post by: Hi no Seijin on November 12, 2007, 04:43:43 PM
You know, you could've told Nogare that, because he jumped to conclusions and accused me of hacking your site.
Title: Re:Talk to KamakaziPlumber!
Post by: Keaton on November 12, 2007, 04:43:54 PM
The host does simply that-- it hosts the files.  The actual site is a word document or a publisher file that you use software for to make it interactive and put on the internet.  The host also takes care of uploading all the data, and storing the extra stuff that you put onto the site.

At least, that's how it was back when I had a site... :feels old:

Hey there, this is Tacheon Black using JDog's account to remind everyone that hacking isn't exactly a laughing matter, but it is pretty funny to me, and it's also incredibly easy once you learn how to master the internet.

Don't count this as a double-post, seeing as how this isn't Jordan. :P

Post by: kamakaziplumber on November 12, 2007, 04:47:12 PM
Hee hee, I would've assumed the very same thing.

Anyways, my host was actually also a Zelda Site... the reason not everything was carried over in the switch was I had recently installed a CMS and those files were not transferred, so various pages were missing from the site.

And, actually, I took care of uploading and managing files. My host only created databases for me, really...

To HNS: I guess you missed the very clear "Hee hee" I stuck in before that statement so that you'd KNOW I was just joking.

To Big Daddy: Technically you only pwned the security of the forums. TDC is a separate entity. On top of that, these are incredibly old forums anyways.

Still, don't hack TDC >.>

That's going a bit far, Jdog.  To be fair, Tacheon hacked your account to make a point since you made it seemed like it's funny to hack sites.

To KP, your laughter means nothing to me.

Anyone? Please?  :'(

Well I haven't attempted it yet, so we'll see if I need help or not when I do. Until then don't worry about it, I don't have THAT much on my plate... so long as I have some people helping with the pictures it should be fine.  ;D

Just look at the link to the right, Caption Game should be there. All you have to do is check it out, you'll get it as soon as you see what it is.

Next question? C'mon, don't let this die, now!
Title: Re:Talk to KamakaziPlumber!

How do I build a machine that makes me forget things I already know about the site so I can ask about them and please your post lust?
Title: Re:Talk to KamakaziPlumber!
Post by: kamakaziplumber on November 12, 2007, 06:33:44 PM
I imagine a flux capacitor would be involved. But maybe that's only for time travel...

Anyways, I just know that when the posts stop a topic tends to die here, whether it's stickied or not. I know people have more questions and I want them to have this topic to post in.

It also conveniently prevents any clutter individual topics for each question would cause  ;D!
Title: Re:Talk to KamakaziPlumber!
Post by: MagmarFire on November 12, 2007, 06:36:24 PM
My next question: We can ask you any question, right? (Which you answer at your own discretion, of course.)
Title: Re:Talk to KamakaziPlumber!
Post by: Hi no Seijin on November 12, 2007, 06:37:27 PM
I have a better idea:  Don't worry if the topic dies down.  If it's stickied, and someone has a question, they'll see and (hopefully) think, "Hmm, this looks like where I ask questions about the main site.  I should ask my question here."  You can't force these kind of things, KP.
Title: Re:Talk to KamakaziPlumber!
Post by: kamakaziplumber on November 12, 2007, 06:43:28 PM
I can't really force it anyways, so encouraging questions doesn't really hurt anyone and can only help to promote questions.

To answer your question, MagmarFire, I suppose so. Y'know, within the forum rules... >.>

Title: Re:Talk to KamakaziPlumber!

That Koala pic was frighteningly good. Nice choice! You get an A+ in image finding  ;D! You want to be on the caption game finding team then?

By "new ideas for coding content" do you mean "learning to make content more organized" or "creating new content for the site" or "learning how Jack coded the content without his help"?

Did I mention this question topic works both ways? I know, it's amazing what we can do with forums these days.

Well, I suppose I might make content more organized, but that would be last on my list of things to do. It's possible though.

As for new content, definitely, I plan to hopefully bring my comic Hylian Hilarity over here from Mabe Village, and also my few Flash games... as well as, and this is a maybe, some new games if possible. Plus, who knows what else!

Third one will happen ASAP, as I explained earlier. Yay!

Is Computer Game Programing a good field to go into? Of course, right now, I'm gonna start at Papa Johns :P

But I'm looking into a career path, and you seem like a real smart guy. I'm no good with math, so programing isn't really up my ally. But I've been told I design some good web-pages, and I can think up an entire story within hours.

I'd like to be able to suggest ideas to say, Nintendo, or Microsoft, and them actually take me seriously. I understand that I'll have to start small, and work my way up, but I'd like to get your opinion on this.

Although I can say that you rarely have to solve complicated math programs AS the programmer.  That's what you put off on the person using the program.

This is a weird question to ask seeing as I am the the creator and webmaster of my own website, The Elemental Archer, ::)

But.....what is the difference between CSS and HTML?

They seem pretty similar to me.
Title: Re:Talk to KamakaziPlumber!
Post by: kamakaziplumber on November 16, 2007, 01:26:43 PM
CSS is part of HTML. You see, CSS is just a way to format HTML pages collectively... like, for example, you might have a web page with two HTML pages. It's small, and you probably wouldn't use CSS because you'd only have to edit two pages to change the background colors, text size, text color, etc.

However, if you have a big website, like TDC or my old Mabe Village (big as in number of files, not popularity  ::)) You're going to want to create CSS pages for any recurrent styles you're going to have on your site, and then you just have your HTML pages look at that CSS file when it loads.

Fun Fact: CSS actually loads faster than settings within HTML!

CSS is also handier for dynamic page thingies, like menus with drop-down links or tooltips when you hover over links, that kind of stuff. CSS can also allow you to layer and move around separate entities on your page so it looks like one thing is on top of another, which helps with the aesthetic value of your page in some cases.

Fun Fact 2: With CSS, you can have one setup for Firefox and another for Internet Explorer, then just tell your HTML pages to choose which one based on the browser the person is using to view the page. This helps sites with complex layouts because you won't have to worry about things shifting around on other browsers!

Anyways, is that enough? I know plenty about it I do.

... Actually, that might be all. Besides the actual code.  ::)

Gamefreak-- (and this isn't just a shameless peg, it's a serious question...)

Why do you insist on being the only administrator on the forums?

What happens if you have to unexpectedly leave with no notice?

When you do become mayor or governor or whatever, what'll you do with these forums?

Do these pants make my butt look big?

And your pants are fine.

Title: Re:Ask Gamefreak

In a sense, but the F in FAQ is taken out, and the A is in the present tense. The thing is, imp, we never really have questions asked, so we're having topics made just for that. For frequently asked questions, questions would have to be asked first, would they not? ;)

Post by: Hi no Seijin on November 24, 2007, 04:10:54 PM
We should all have a topic where people can ask questions about the topic starter, and we can have a board for all of those topics.

Or we can just ignore the crazy person again.  It's okay; he's used to it, seeing as how that's what made him crazy in the first place.  That, and his dogs.
Title: Re:Ask Gamefreak

Title: Re:Ask Gamefreak
Post by: Hi no Seijin on November 24, 2007, 04:15:17 PM
One's a golden retriever/lab mix and the other is part beagle part something else.  But it's just the fact that I live with two dogs in the suburbs, where like everyone has a dog.  They're always barking at something, and it's quite annoying.  This is why I want a cat for a pet; they're quiet.

I would appreciate that better if you at least tried to use correct spelling and grammar.  I dub thee 'JDogII'.

Of course, you're inherently wrong; This is an 'asking questions' thread, and your question has been answered, we can't have an FAQ if we don't have any questions that are asked frequently.  Know what I mean?

I hope you do, I doubt it too.

Cheers,
Tacheon Alexander Black.

I wouldn't say this is a "frequently asked questions" topic.

It's more like a Q&A session where you all ask me about my life and my ideas.

I got it alright, I'll see about linking or affiliating soon. Don't rush me, I don't have it all figured out yet :P. Jack's a confusing guy.

I'll also have to figure out whether to link or affiliate, it depends on your content and such. Might have to link first and affiliate sometime later, who knows. We'll see I guess.  ;D

It's an online, automated map. You just type in a starting location and the place you want to go, and the website will automatically give you a route to that location based on either the shortest distance or best fuel efficiency. It's quite convenient, really...

Well, since Jdog's question has already been answered... somewhat, I'll address MagmarFire.

I'll be honest here: Hylian Hilarity adheres to no strict schedule, even if it did have one  ::). Updates may or may not appear regularly, it all depends. But, as far as when I'll be able to continue it, I'll likely continue as soon as I have enough reason to set up a link and, consequently, set up a link. I'll likely have a new episode ready for the link creation... ceremony?

I've actually had the episode idea ready for months and months, I'm just lazy, eh? Especially with artsy stuff.

I have come to you to ask many questions. No, not the "What Color is my underwear" (although, it would be amusing) my questions are:
What if you and all the mods randomly 'sploaded on keyboard, then what would we do.
My next question is does this "Run for your life" avatar apease you?
And Does this AK Cat make me look like a terrorist? or does it simply make me look funny or fat?
