Title: Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn
Post by: Zelda Veteran on November 16, 2007, 10:37:14 PM
Well, my friend got his new magazine recently, and I was flipping through when I noticed a new Wii installment. Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn. I've been a fan of the Fire Emblem series since I played Path of Radiance for the GCN.

QuoteWith a terrible plot, and an unforgiving difficulty level, Radiant Dawn is best left alone by anyone but the most hardcore strategists.
-Gamespot

After seeing what GameSpot had to say, I have to say, that I'm definitely up to the challenge! I love strategical thinking! I watched the official game trailer (http://www.gamespot.com/video/932999/6181001/fire-emblem-radiant-dawn-official-trailer-1) and I'm psyched for it. Looks like Ike is still in the saddle. From what I've read, the game offers mid-battle saving. Thats good, because then, before testing a plan, you can save, and if it fails, you can reset, and try another strategy. I keep reading of relentless, unforgiving difficulty that will make the player compromise continuing onward.

Sounds like my kind of challenge! Its a direct sequel to Path of Radiance, and from what I'm picking up, the story isn't that great. You can read more here. (http://www.gamespot.com/wii/rpg/fireemblem/review.html?om_act=convert&om_clk=gssummary&tag=summary;review)
Happy gaming! I'll definitely be picking this one up!

We won't know until we give it a try!  ;)

(But isn't Gamespot kind of known for negative critiques? I could be wrong... :-\ )

A bad plot? Doesn't sound like FE to me...still, I've been a fan of all it's games for four or so years now, I'll make Scotty get it.

Terrible Plot? Hah. People put too much emphasis on plots that take themselves too seriously. Sure we LOVE plots that create self-evaluation, but that gets tedious after a while. A lot of great RPG's are centered around overall, the same plot... so in that extent, with the way things are, no one should take plot seriously anymore, since it's definiteliy gone past the point of no return in terms of sheer ridicule-fodder *Coughffcrisiscorecoughcough*

So for that blunt but necessary point, games should be played for what makes it unique - gameplay and atmosphere, seeing as story is running fairly stale in the originality department.

Though in retrospect, plots must make sense in order for the game itself to be somewhat satisfying. We're at a point where we can no longer complain of a 'terrible plot' by basing the reasoning around how cliche the plot is. If it is to be a terrible plot, then it must lack formality in the rules of drama.

Don't forget that Gamespot is the company that gave Ratchet and Clank Future a 7.5 in the midsts of several high 9's.  Quote Gamespot "The game has to much variety.

I have never played a FE game.  Ever.  I think I will get it to experience its type of genre

So I was RIGHT! XD

But I'm glad to hear, Dr., that you love the plot. My worries are now gone. :D

I got Radiant Dawn and am gonna try and beat the whole thing in this next week, which I have off from school because of Thanksgiving. I don't think it has a bad plot at all. (Then again, I just started Part 2 the other day and have yet to see my beloved Ike). And what's with this "unforgivng diffulty level"? I never viewed Fire Emblem as terribly hard. Just annoying when the same person keeps dying, but not "unforgivingly difficult". So, to add something to the conversation: Best or Favorite unit? Could be the actual fighting way of viewing it or story/personality way.

Boyd can also become a tank. A good one, too. I didn't like that knight you got, the sword one...Started with an M, was one of the girls' brother...can't remember the game, it's been almost a year...

Correct, and he was uber lousy

Also Mag, you can't call gatrie a beast until you've seen what i've done to him

He has these qualities after i worked on him:
200% Hit rating
An ability which cuts all targets in a 3 square AOE's Crit rating to 0
Uber high defense
Uber high crit
Uber high avo
Corrosion
Luna

'nuff said

Awkward Zombie (http://www.awkwardzombie.com/comic1-111907.php) has a new comic up based on Radiant Dawn.  Something I'm sure all FE fans can appreciate.

I miss the old way of support conversations. Although Radiant Dawn makes it a lot easier... It just feels like they chopped off huge opportunies for more plot. Wait, if you get A rank supports do those people have separate endings again?
