Title: Something Worthy of Alarm?
Post by: MagmarFire on June 16, 2008, 10:38:34 AM
Yes, you see the exclamation point here, so you know it's important. :P

Jokes aside, I personally think this may be something that's worth looking into. Curious of our forum's activity, I went into the database that holds the statistics of total posts, topics, members, etc. I wanted a visual, so I went into Excel and created a graph. This is the result I got:

As you can see, both graphs follow essentially the same trend (at different proportions), which makes a bit of sense, considering that both topics and posts contribute to forum activity. What I find alarming is that in June 2006, we've had the highest point on both graphs, periods of highs and lows following, which also makes sense because of our members' seasonal schedules (higher activity during the summer months and slower activity during school months).

Now, look at this year's total. Contrary to the trend of having higher points, these past couple months have been lows. While I do understand that it's only halfway through the month and that there hasn't been as much time allotted in developing the month's totals before recording it, June of 2006 had a post total greater than both this month and last month combined.

What I want to know is, is TDC becoming more and more inactive? Not to create a scare or anything, but I have noticed a drop in new active members these past few years. What do you guys think?

Yeah, not that many new comers find their way here anymore. A lot of veteran members don't come here so often anymore, like Masterkey. I myself am not on as long as I used to (mainly because of a recent addiction to Club Penguin ;) ). We've reached all time lows in both new topics and new posts. It seems we've lost anything to talk about, really, and we're losing interest in coming here anymore. Lately, it's been same old, same old, so it's not exciting here that much. Perhaps we should do something more exciting?

Also, I would like to note that if I recall correctly, the summer of 2006 was the spambot season, so that would have a lot to do with it. And the late spring early summer period of 2007 was the argument era (something I'm not too fond of, considering I had much to do with it all).

Well, TP caused a spike in activity to be sure, but other than that there hasn't been much Zelda news. Plus, the site...well, it kind of isn't being updated much anymore.

We should alert Kamakaziplumber and Gamefreak (and mabye Jack) about this as soon as possible. This is an urgent disaster that needs to be solved quickly.

Oh, and if we do choose to alert Jack, I don't volunteer. Remember what happened last time? (*Shivers*)

This is an internet message board, Whocares. God forbid you not be able to chat about Zelda and other topics with people from teh intarnets.

Furthermore, I really don't see how one would resolve this anyway. It's not like you can somehow make people post more often.

i think we should hire the A-team, Boo! They can help us!

...Or we could always make a board for porn. That would up activity, I'm sure.

Or we could combine the two:

A board for A-Team porn.

We'd be overrun by girls and feminine guys.

I think the estrogen would suffocate me.

Umm... don't you mean "tense", ZV ...?  ;) (Great having you back, by the way)

I have an idea! We should make a gigantic number of spam topics in the Chatboard and just spam up all the topics with thousands of posts. That will bring things up. And it WOULD be fun...  :)

But it wouldn't be right...
and no, I meant "terse".
Its the word Jack used as a synonym for "Stern".
lol! I remember that above all else.

I'd consider the former unlikely. I only considered posts and topics in those graphs, not new members, and if there were spam bot posts, they would've been deleted anyway.

I'm just rather worried that TDC isn't as recognized as it once was (and continue shrinking if the trend continues) and that people will just shrug off the opportunity of being in its community. But I am happy to hear Gamefreak's optimism about the matter.

Being grounded means I don't get on during the school year.

So, naturally, summer is when I post the most-that may include some of the posts. o:

Also, some people might have jobs (-coughmecough-) and be unable to get on as much.

Well, yeah, that's a given, too.

So another reason we aren't here so much: We're older than when we first joined. We have jobs and lives now.

Ouch. >_<

But Gamefreak and Fisk do have a good point. The summer off-time would be offset by jobs and such. And then again, you have graduated, Gamefreak, so you're possibly busier than ever preparing.

I suppose this is all the information that I needed. Thanks, guys. :)

Yeah I'm not really doing anything right now, aside from living the Stoner life and playing games (almost done with Dragon Quest VIII) I've got two months of summer left too.

The internet is just no longer as captivating to me as it once was when i first got it a couple years ago.
