Title: Metal Gear Solid
Post by: Gamefreak on July 06, 2008, 04:30:58 PM
Has anybody played this franchise?  Being a PS3 owner, I feel as though I'm obligated to buy Metal Gear Solid 4, so before I did that, I decided to play through the first three to get a feel for the game.

Having only played (and as of today beaten) MGS 2: Sons of Liberty, it seems that it could be a series that I could get into.

So any other opinions?

I have Twin Snakes and it was a pretty good game.  Good story line and cool weapons.

I've never actually played it that much (for shame!) mostly because I don't have a PS2, and I don't want to spend my money on the games, since I don't have a lot of experience with it.

However, the little bits I have played have been hardcore.

The best line from Sons of Liberty is after Raiden rescues someone from a flooding facility in the ocean.

After he escapes, his Colonel calls him and says:

"Raiden, what's your status?"

Raiden: "We've managed to avoid drowning!"

Don't get me started on MGS.  I've been obsessed with this series since the original Metal Gear came out... I own Metal Gear, Metal Gear:  Solid Snake, Metal Gear Solid, Metal Gear Solid:  The Twin Snakes (the one for the Gamecube, essentially a remake with better graphics), MGS2:  Sons of Liberty, and MGS3:  Snake Eater.

I also own Portable Ops and AC1D.

I've always wanted to get into this series, but it's so popular that the local gamestop is aways fresh out of MGS games, and I haven't been able to find any anywhere else.

Trust me, never cling to stores like GameStop. They overcharge, for one thing, and they're not terribly reliable, at least in my experience. Try eBay or Amazon.com; you're pretty much guaranteed to find a copy of any game you want, but prices and conditions vary.

Anyways, I've never played a MGS game, but I've always wanted to try one. It looks fascinating. I like to play as Snake in SSBB, though.

There's a little release you can find online called "Metal Gear Solid Collection". Has MGS 1-3. You should be able to find it at amazon at a good price.

Half the price of MGS 4 too! (http://www.amazon.com/Metal-Gear-Solid-Essential-Collection/dp/B001383L36/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=videogames&qid=1215475934&sr=8-1)
