Ok, I'm going to be very straight up.
Getting a warning for using a curse word, once, is ridiculous, and should not issue a warning.
Profanity
-noun
1. the quality of being profane; irreverence.
2. profane conduct or language; a profane act or utterance.
There's a difference between, profanity, and curse words.
Saying,
f-word, f-word, d-word, d-word, b-word, b-word
Is profanity.
The f-bomb, is not appropriate, I know, but words like h*ll, and sh*t,....c'mon.
I'm sure, no one will agree, and nothing will change, and my TWO warning for the words sh*t and h*ll will stand.
Whatever.
The thing is, Dragmire, we're trying to keep this forum friendly to a certain age group. PG-13 or "T" is what we aim for here, and the words you listed certainly don't fit that rating. "Damn" and "hell" are acceptable, but they shouldn't be used excessively, just out of courtesy. Even if you don't find swearing offensive, others might, and it's certainly not appropriate for the age rating we're aiming for. And just for your information, putting a star over one letter doesn't exempt you from the rules.
Watch your step from now on; it'd be a shame for you to get banned after being gone for so long and being back for such a short time.
You are aware that even though you've managed to change one character, the fact is that you're using every single one of those words multiple times in that post. I don't care if you're British, because Brits get away with cursing all the time. I don't care if you're <18 which, from the level of maturity with which you're handling this situation, I'm assuming you're not, because the fact remains that we have these rules to make this a forums friendly to ALL ages. I know, I've had a few transgressions myself, but you know what, I've learned from them, and that's why I'm a mod and you're not.
To be honest, it doesn't matter if you're the most dedicated user on these forums. If Commodore were to, as you so eloquently put it, keep 'dropping the F-Bomb', then we would have no choice but to ban him for the good of these forums. You can consider yourself under moderatorial review.
But...
Why do I have a warning for hell?
Also, damn and hell are, by law acceptable in a PG movie, if use in good taste.
So it makes sense that I can say sh*t, once or twice, in a PG-13 movie.
I know some people find cursing offensive, but I'm not shouting to the high heavens. Most of all, I rarely curse.
It should be the frequency, and the use of the curse words that determines the warning.
But above it all, I am most CERTAINLY NOT, considering myself to be ABOVE anyone.
When did I mention that?
When? You tell me. Moderator.
Do you even have any idea how annoying you sounds when you said,
Quote, that's why I'm a mod, and you're not.
When did I ever say that you were (or thought you were for that matter) above anyone?
I don't think you should have a warning for "hell."
Personally, I've never heard *the "S" word* used in a PG-13 movie or in a "T" rated video game.
The thing is, though, some people find swearing offensive no matter how frequently or infrequently it's used. We're trying to be considerate of those people.
And, again, starring out one letter in a swear word doesn't exempt you from the rules. It's just like swearing under your breath: while it may be difficult to hear, it's swearing nonetheless.
Well, I have.
I understand the age-set, but just don't seem to grasp the concept as to why, the use of the S word is so much more
destructive to those curse-word-sensitive, than say hell, or damn.
As I said, I know the f bomb is just offensive, and I won't use it on these boards.
Please dont tell me, that I will receive a warning for using curse words as an example?
That would be just plain stupid on the mod's part.
QuoteTo be honest, it doesn't matter if you're the most dedicated user on these forums.
I also don't like they way you've managed to rub your modship in my face, while calling me immature at the same time. The fact that I'm *trying* to have a mature conversation about a rule that I find ineffective, is mature in itself. I did not go
"Haha, I'm a mod and you're not!"
...?
And that was just setting up for an example, saying that nobody's safe from it, and I'm not just singling you or anyone else out because they're not the 'top posters' or the most clever or anything. Really, even us mods need to be warned sometimes.
As for why you have a warning for the use of the word, 'hell'? I'll have to look into that, but I'm sure it's in the context used.
I said Will Smith is funny as the H-word...
It's the truth.
By saying that even the most popular people need to be warned, implied that I thought was indeed, popular.
Just know that the mods don't discriminate when it comes to warnings, because they hand them out to whomever deserves one, regardless of post count, dedication, how long they've been here, how loved they are on the forum, or what position they hold. As Tacheon/EVE mentioned, even mods aren't exempt from warnings if they've done something worthy of such.
I'm just going to lock this.
It's waste of time for everyone involved.
Nothing will change.
Some people are bent on crushing me, and so be it.
But, I won't take blindly offensive things from people.
Could one of the mods pm me the post in review here?
I'd like to see what all this hooplah is about.
As far as I know, I've only given him the warning for using the alternative word for bottom. And I also see he only used the word hell in the visible text, and I agree that no warning was necessary there.
I was told that hell was acceptable.
I wasn't using any words here in the sense that they are meant to be used.
Merely explain things...
I'll unlock for now, until it's resolved.
Quoteif use in good taste
I would like to bring to your attention that more than half of your posts contained a curse word. That's...a bit excessive. That may have resulted in a warning for hell if you used it frequently. Also, in America, S is considered the second worst under F, so...yeah. And the movies aren't a good example of what should be allowed at these forums. There really is no need to swear, and these rules are the ones that Jack provided for us.
Look, the warnings go away in a month. Just avoid swearing, use other words to get your frustration across, and you'll be fine. It's not that big a deal.
As I stated, the curse words on here are not being used in a derogative sense, and are being used to resolve this problem.
Stop nitpicking. Besides, I've been told hell, and damn are acceptable ( again, resolving the problem ).
Actually, only 2 of my posts, not including this one, have actually used hell and damn in clear text.
I didn't mean in this topic.
And stop nitpicking? It's the rules, Dragmire.
Well, please cite your sources.
When I said that, I thought you were talking about in this topic. My apologizes.
EDIT: I should state that my perspective of good taste, is one curse word, about every 5 posts seems fair.
Why are we even trying to judge a swear limit? Why do you need to swear at all?
Yeah, I mean, it doesn't make you look more mature or anything...
Because, sometimes I'll let one go, and forget about. It's in my nature. I'm trying to change. I just don't think it's fair that one curse word here and there = 1 warning.
But, I would really appreciate it if you would list example of my multiple swearings. If you cite more than 3, I'll except my banning. I don't care. I will make me learn.
Quote-laughs, and laughs, and laughs, and LAUGHS HIS ASS OFF-
QuoteDidn't try others, seeing as how I dont own the game (TOASTER-PASTRY) yet
Quoteit a total pain in the patio.
There were several other posts that the mods had edited, and I didn't count hell and damn. We're not banning you, just watch yourself. Also, both of your warnings weren't for hell or damn, but the A-word. So...yeah.
Oh well. I couldn't even find those if I wanted.
:'(
I thought I could get away with it on chat board seeing as roflmao is fine, and lmao aswell. Same thing really, just abbreviated.
True, but for all total Internet newbs would know (not that I'm saying any of us is one), "roflmao" could mean "really old flippers leading my awesome orange," or "lmao" could mean "likely [that] my aunt's older." *insert letters here, followed by asterisks* is a lot less subtle because just about any sixth grader, and maybe even lower, could spell it out.
But if they had more time, they would say it!
The villains...
I mean, who uses curse words anyway?
....
;)
Hey, out of curiousity, do I need a warning? I mean, I say ** all the time.
I never actually have any particular expletives in mind, though-I just use the double asterisk to show that I mean a random expletive.
If I don't get a warning, then perhaps Dragmire could do the same as I. -nodnod-
If it isn't obvious through either context or character replacement as to which expletive you're alluding to, then technically you're breaking no rules.
fisk, once you use actual letters in the word, then it's bad.
I'd consider for 4 letter words, leaving just the first letter in but the rest, asterisks, tolerable. But that's just my point of view on the manner

Sadly, I believe Jack felt otherwise, didn't he?
The rules say, no swearing except for damn and hell, period.
though it's still not explicitly swearing if almost all the letters are blocked out (unless it's a 3 letter word, then it wouldn't work)
Yeah, I agree with JQ.
f*** could be fart, form, from, frat, fore, or four, and s*** could be sign, ship, star, shoe...
However, f*ck can only be one thing.
... yeah, if I get a warning for that, I'm fine, I guess.
nah you're good.
Damn and hell are in the bible.
"Thee shall be damned to hell"
:P
Wouldn't it be 'thou shalt'?
I'M STUPID AND IT'S PAST MY BEDTIME
Ehhh who cares :P
