Alright guys, it's that time again.
Now, this shouldn't be too unexpected: Jack's done it his fair share of times, and the site has been... lacking... in updates. Sorely. I'm talking about hiring new staff members.
I figured I'd come here first since, I know all of you care about TDC, right? ;) Also, I know there's a lot of talent to be found here and I plan to bring it to the surface... Not... Not that it was hidden or anything. >.>
Anyways, what I'd really like are people who can update on the main page: basically news reporters. People who can post every bit of news they can find, on the Zelda series (hopefully). Will this be difficult? Yes. Is it possible? Yes. Do I think anyone here can do it? Yes. Am I being a total question-talker right now? Yes.
If you think you can fill this particular position, post here RIGHT NOW. Or as soon as possible. Also, anyone who wants to the job must submit a sample of their work. It should be the same caliber as any posts they plan to make. Now, I know most of you don't have sample articles lying around, waiting for me to say I need help so that you can giddily submit it and take the website by storm with your innovative and informative forays into the Zelda news world. So, here's a thought: if you think you can take the job but don't have something to submit, pick a Zelda game and write a review for it. That's all, just do it in the same style you think you'd use. Once you think it's ready, submit it. If I need more, I'll tell you, and you'll have another chance. I just need to be sure I'm filling the staff with the right people, eh?
What else? Well, I don't only need news reporters. You guys know TDC better than anyone else, if you think there's something worthy of this site, go for it. Want to write individual rants for every dungeon in the Zelda series? You can do it. Want to thoroughly psychoanalyze some Zelda characters? You can do it. Got something that's not stupid? You can do it. (How did I end up question-talking again? 8))
Just post what you'd like to write here, and we'll see if it'll get its own spot on the main page. Of course, I'll need a sample for these positions as well: but, lucky you, it can just be your first submission. ;D
What else? Well, if you have another, non-writing position you'd like to fill here on TDC, speak your mind! I'm open to all suggestions (better add "within reason" for safety reasons), so feel free to add to our site here! And yes, I'll need samples for any of these, too.
So, have at it, guys. I hope to see some good offers here, soon? Pleeeeeeeeeeeeease? :P For TDC!
I'd love to do it.
But Nintendo, to my knowledge doesn't have any new updates for the Zelda series, up and coming.
The updates might have to be a little dry at first, until a new game is announced.
It would probably be reduced to Virtual Console Updates.
As far as a sample article, Id have to get back to you.
Also a question, what language is this site written in?
If the main site needs a new Ezlo at any point in time, I'm up for that.
Also, I'd be happy to fix up a few of the walkthroughs that I've noticed are... lacking... *coughMMcough*
Oh, what's that? A piece of my work? Sure.
*doing a cover for A Link to the Past in the style of a reporter when it first came out*
For years the Zelda series has enraptured the children (and adults!) of the world with its unique gameplay and cutting-edge interface. Well, Nintendo's done it again! Their newest game, A Link to the Past, features not only the wonderful storyline and high replay value that we've all come to expect of Zelda, it also boasts top-of-the-line 32-bit graphics that are sure to wow kids and grown-ups alike. Featuring full dialogue, many dungeons, and even an alternate world, this thrilling addition to the series is sure to be the perfect addition to a fan's collection-- and a perfect place for new players to start!
Tada.
Yes, EVE. I think I'll let you take the MM walkthrough on personally. You really know more about the game.
(Sorry for convo-post, sortof)
Offers! Whoooooooooooooop! ;D
Alright, first, Dragmire: Yeah, I'm aware of the news drought. <.< Still, news is news, and anything you were to submit would contribute. Plus, I'm sure there's other news to be found on the internet. :) Looking forward to the sample.
And English, of course! :P No, I hope you meant coding language... code... whatever. It's mostly HTML, really. Some PHP backbone. Simple, even if it is incredibly messy. ;) Sometimes it's scary, working on the files. And the news, of course, is done via Cutenews: if you're going to do news, I'd just set you up with an account and you'd post via the Cutenews editor. No need for coding, if that's what you meant.
EVE: A reporter would've never mentioned the alternate world! Fail.
Not really. Actually, if you plan to fix up the walkthroughs, a sample isn't too necessary (kind of forgot about the walkthroughs back there, heh). Sample's good for news, though, if you'd like to take a crack at that as well. (A bit... cut-and-dry, which is perfect for the news, although more colorful news is always welcome! Both work fine.) But for walkthroughs, feel free to fix 'em! It'll be complicated, though... I guess you'd have to do a good job of defining exactly what parts you're fixing, so I can update the pages accordingly.
Oh, and Ezlo's doing just fine for now >.> Just a bit stressed as of late, and therefore slow. Silly Minish.
Why of course I'd be happy to.
Also, in case you didn't notice, I stickied the topic.
Sweet!
Thanks Kamakazi!
Also, when I post my sample, it would probably end up being the first news story, seeing as how, I don't really have any other example that would personify my writing at this time.
I'd love to help in however way I could, too! Lay more of my mark on TDC forever, you know? Maybe a review section?
Don't thank me yet, pal! There's still the sample to consider. :P And, like I said, you could write a review of any of the Zelda games or some such thing if you can't think of anything. A news report would be great, too, though. Whatever you feel comfortable with, just be sure to make it good. ;D
Also, to everyone else: don't be afraid to apply for a job that someone else has already asked for. For one, I need people and examples to compare. But, mostly, I'd like to have more than one reporter if possible. After all, there's a better chance for an update with ten people reporting than just one.
(Ten is an exaggeration, of course, though I don't think I'd have to worry about that anyways)
A review section, you say, Magmar? Care to elaborate a bit? Any ideas are welcome.

How many times have I told you, no marking your territory.
The smell drives away new members.
In all seriousness, we could use this to majorly revamp the main page. Make it fresh and exciting!
FOR INSTANCE-- any chance of having a 'Featured Article' other than the Great Moblin? Huh? HUH?
Well, like you said, the dungeons, as one possibility. (Water Temple from OoT, anyone? :P ) Perhaps I could even do a blog on comparisons in the Zelda world every once in a blue moon. There has been a review format that I would like to try out, and I sort of mentally go through with it at least on a partial scale when I reflect on movies. For instance, you can have a Graphics rating, a Storyline rating, and a Gameplay rating, and the three are often what gamers look for while buying games. It's yet to be developed, but I can always add to it.
For kicks, I can even have (crappily made) visual aides. Eye candy to make it more...attractive.
I may not be a doctor, but I can help you with your visual AIDS.
Seriously.
Check the custom title.
It's official.
Ah ha ha... yeah. Forgot about that! ;)
NEW STAFF POSITION AVAILABLE: Feature Article Finder/Writer! Actually, in all honesty I could do that, but if anyone is willing to do the dirty work for me...
Oh, and just to mercilessly kill any hopes and dreams you all might have (8)) Jack specifically requested that I not change the layout. Sorry, guys.
Magmar, that's sounding pretty cool, but perhaps an example would do best to explain it? ;) I'm sure you could manage it, you've already sent something in to TDC eh?
(Yes, I did get that thing you sent me. Will be up soon, by the way.)
I could also work with the already excellent Compendium.
I agree, we need the main page to updated weekly, including the featured article, and I do believe that our Twilight Princess stuff has STOPED growing...
Yayz! :D
And I'll get to work on it as soon as I can to show you.
I'd like to point out that Jack is no longer here, and no longer in charge of the site, so your mind to honor his wish...
I think he'd appreciate it and understand it if we had someone who had decent graphing skills to turn things around.
BLASPHEMER!
Seriously, if Jack said not to mess with it, don't.
I can understand a few tweaks to make it better.
While, I'm all for a new layout ( Zelda Dungeon's is AWESOME! ) this is after all, Jack's baby.
A little attention to the compendium would also be welcome! It'd be great if you'd do that too, Dragmire, and anyone else who wants to pitch in can say so right here.
As far as the layout goes... I'd be willing to try and contact Jack (truly a feat, nowadays). If he clears it, I'm all for a layout update... But if he says no, that's final. He is, after all, god of TDC, no matter who the webmaster is.
Hey, KP, I have a sample written. Should I post it here to have it reviewed, or should I just send it to you to see if it's TDC worthy?
Here, here, here!
All right, you asked for it. (And I still need to add a bit more to it, but here's the basic form of it.)
Zelda Re: Review
For most of us Zelda fans, we've been through many dungeons, and these dungeons may have (1) killed you so many times that you wanted to throw your controller, DS, GBA, and siblings out the window; or (2) made your head explode to the point where you had to resort to teh interwebz (e.g. The Desert Colossus? ) for assistance. For some of us, we always had that extra heart of Life Energy, that one extra fairy, that one extra bomb, you name it. These necessities were all that we needed to get that dungeon treasure, put the smack-down on the boss, and save that sage/spirit/whatever.
But time and time again, there was that one dungeon—that one goddessforsaken place that had some of the greatest Zelda players' minds turned into a vat of pudding (mmm...chocolate ^_^ ), and it has, through the ages, transformed from game to game as the hardest/most hated dungeon in the game, regardless of its position in the game's linearity. For most of us...it makes us gag at looking at a glass of dihydrogen monoxide. For those of you who have never taken chemistry, that's the "technical" name for what we often call water. Yes, it's the Water Temple. It's deep. It's dark. It's terrifying. It's...well, wet.
Who's up for a Swim?
The Water Temple is arguably the most difficult/irritating dungeon or series of dungeons in the Zelda franchise, with its confusing puzzles and altered physics. Google it, and the first item that pops up (for me, anyways) is a site that says that there was a poll on Everything Zelda64 saying that the Water Temple was voted the hardest level in Ocarina of Time. This site also goes so far as to basically saying that you're screwed if you're stuck. Well, that's pretty fun, isn't it? Starting the game days before, you come across this place, and then you find that you've taken a wrong turn in the temple and get lost. Huh. That was a good twenty bucks well spent.
The site also says, however, that the going will only get easier from then on, which would make sense, because if the Water Temple is the hardest, logically everything else would have to be easier. So if you beat the Water Temple, you're ready for anything! Heck, you might as well just go to Ganon's Castle right now, knock on his door, and flick the chip off his shoulder.
"Hey, what are you doing here?" he'll say. "You didn't save the other two Sages!"
"Hah! I don't need to save them!" Link will say with pride. "I beat the Water Temple!"
Now, for the first issue of Zelda Re:, we'll be taking a gander at some of the issues that gamers everywhere have had trouble, from keys, to floors, and to bosses. You'd best prepare yourselves. ;)
In We Go!
All right, you've just gone into the temple, and the first thing you need to do is take the Iron Boots off and float to the surface. Easy enough, right? I mean, you don't have to wear the Iron Boots in the temple ever again, right? Huh, WRONG! Turns out that you have to keep pressing Start, go to the Equipment Subscreen, and equip and reequip the Iron Boots when you need them. From what I remember, you need to do it dozens of times and when having to go underwater and going back above water, you'd think that there'd be a much quicker way to do it. A shortcut, maybe? *neon sign points to C-Buttons*
As seen in The Wind Waker and Twilight Princess, you can set your Iron Boots to the X, Y, and Z buttons (except for Twilight Princess, of course, where you have to use Z for Midna's advice), thereby greatly increasing the efficiency as to how many times you can go through the "Iron Boot Cycle," as I call it, within a certain amount of time. And excellent addition on Nintendo's part, I say. However, for some reason, this was not in Ocarina of Time. Why? From what I see, it possibly could have cluttered the Items Subscreen, and since the items are in an array, adding an item row or column would create "empty spots" in the subscreen that quite possibly would be too difficult to fill with more items. After all, there are a limited number of dungeons and side-quests and time to make the game. In this case, this is understandable, but it still increases the time you'll make your stay in this temple...
"Miyamoto, what does the temple say about its water level?"
Over nine thousand, right? ;)
Anyway, as the title would suggest, another irritating part of the dungeon was going back to the three Triforce symbols on the walls in order to change the water level, as it was obviously a major part of the dungeon have water in certain areas and to have certain areas be dry. Those of you with good memory could exploit this pretty well, as you'd have to remember where each of these symbols was to begin with in order to change it; if you could not remember where it was...well, sucks to be you.
You'd have to do a bit of finding, making it feel a bit repetitive to go through the dungeon, having to raise and lower the water level only for one puzzle or other. This is another reason why this temple can take quite awhile to go through. And it's the finding your bearings part of the dungeons that make many water-based dungeons feel very difficult. If you have a map on you—and a compass, for that matter—use it well!
Shadow Duel
Yes, for all you Eloze fans out there, as quite awesome as he is, Dark Link can really be considered a pain in the fanny in the Water Temple. Whatever attack you use on him can be parried, blocked, and countered easily, certainly making it seem like Dark Link is a cheap miniboss. On the other hand, Link himself has something that Dark Link does not: Din's Fire. Yeah. Shweetness. If you have magic, you can beat him a lot more easily with this simple spell. Then you may have to finish him off with your sword...and that's quite a difficult feat, too.
The Boss
This thing is just bizarre! It has a nucleus that can control water (ala Avatar: The Last Airbender) and can strangle the crap out of you if you get caught in it. What's more, if you seek refuge on the outer rim of the room you fight in, you have to watch out for spikes, and since the Longshot you get in the dungeon doesn't home in on the nucleus, grappling it can be difficult, too. At least two arms can form from the nucleus's rotating in the water, and these arms...well, they're a bit too friendly, if you ask me. I think they've been in there way too long and just want a hug. If you're not careful, you're going to get a hug, all right—and it's going to hurt!
It's Over! (Almost)
There you have it: some of the plethora of things that lead gamers into the Wacky Shack. What was Nintendo thinking when putting the Water Temple in Ocarina of Time? People want puzzles: you get puzzles. They want gameplay: you get underwater fights (underwater clam fighting, for the win!). Still, you'd think that the formula for water-based dungeons wouldn't be hard. It's just that it's a unique combination of puzzles and corridors that somehow just want to make you hit someone over the head with a sledgehammer. The reputation of the Water Temple is pretty negative for many people, and this review may point out some of the reasons why. I know I'm not too fond of the rooms of the vortexes and changing the water level like a green-clad plumber. Really, that should be Mario's job! However, once you get through it, once you overcome the Start button mashing, once you conquer Dark Link, once you pulverize Morpha into a...whatever water becomes when it's pulverized, you'll know you're ready to beat Ocarina of Time. Ganondorf, watch out!
Statistics
Gameplay: 4/10
Exp: Repetitive to go through due to water level changes, and the battles can get quite annoying. It's a good dungeon to play, nonetheless.
Originality: 10/10
Exp: It may be annoying, but you have to admit, this dungeon boasts massive originality. You have to go through certain levels, solve puzzles, and accommodate those puzzles accordingly with water changes.
Graphics/Detail: 9/10
Exp: Being able to travel through water like in Super Metroid and fight underwater beasties and notice the changes in sound every time you go under is pretty awesome, indeed. The whirlpools, although annoying to me, looked pretty sweet. And look at that—they have dragons there, too! ^^
Overall: 7.6/10
Nice review
So you'll be reviewing dungeons?
:-[
Wow Magmar.
You went all out on that one.
10,000/5
Anyways, I'd be happy to help with whatever I can. I'm not much of a writer, so don't expect that from me. But I'm pretty imaginative, so I can help with ideas. Also, like I mentioned before, I went over a layout design with Jack a while ago, so feel free to check Gerudo Fortress for that.
Also, Dragmire, I rather dislike ZD's layout. Its too cluttered, and not very breathable. I like TDC's layout, but we could use a new banner at the top that doesn't seem so crusty... Something new looking, and fresh. Like I said before, something with Flash like zelda.com, but with the desert winds blowing. That'd be so cool!! ;D

Nice review
So you'll be reviewing dungeons?
And other things, I guess. I mean, I can do some requests if I can write enough about them. ;)
Um... send it to me, via PM or email. Let's keep it a surprise if we can, eh?
Oh, and I'm going to put out a new staff request here: when I say I want news reporters, I mean strictly news reporters. As in, people who report the facts, and don't necessarily doll up their posts. They can, if they do it really well and it's their style, but if not I'd prefer them to do a clean report. Which is why I'd also like people who are willing to give a kind of... "Peanut Gallery" report on the news itself, i.e. opinions and funny commentary. I think it would be a nice counterpoint to the any clean-cut news reports we might have.
If you're up to it, you'd basically get your own "Corner", or a part in some kind of "Corner"-type grouping... thing. Basically it would be a column that would follow each(?) strictly-news post. If it's your style, go ahead and apply! I'll need a sample, of course. Hope to hear from some of you on this, I know you guys can be funny! Maybe I'll personally ask some people? Eh? I don't know. Just apply, if you feel like it's your thing.
... Oh. OK, Magmar, post it here if you want. ::)
Brilliant! Exactly what I planned when I suggested dungeon reviews. :P But seriously, great work there Magmar. Since your contributions would most likely go unchallenged (and your sample was superb), I can pretty much say you've got the... uh, position? Job? Chance? Whatever it's called. We'll see about getting you set up with a column soon. Maybe when some other positions are filled, eh?
And ZV, that would be pretty cool... still, I'm going to try and contact Jack about it. Though maybe I could sneak such a banner change in without him noticing, ha.
Do a full review on ChuChu jellies! :D
While I'm sure Jack hasn't forgotten about us, I don't know if he'd care if we changed it up a bit. He's a such a busy guy... I miss Jack. I hope he approves of all of this. Yeah, thanks for taking my idea into consideration. I'm going to see if I can make a diagram of what I'm invisioning here, and send it to anyone who requests it through PM's.
Great. Mags gets the job.
as usual
Although, you do deserve it. Good job.
I'd be MORE THAN HAPPY to be the counter-point man. The only person more aserbically sarcastic than me on these forums is Commodore.
I do really like your Flash idea, ZV. I actually have the visualization in my head: the sandstorm, the flags in the storm, "The Desert Colossus" in the background...
And thank you, KP! (You, too, ZV, Tacheon, and Dragmire!) I love your critiques! It still needs to be fixed a bit, but... Gah, I hope this helps TDC! ;D
EDIT: My bad, Tacheon. Didn't see your post. ???
Quote from: MagmarFire on July 07, 2008, 10:54:22 PMAnd thank you, KP! (You, too, ZV and Dragmire!)
Go to Hell.
I never said it didn't need to be fixed. :P I kid, I kid, though I was semi-editing in my head. But, little cosmetic things that I probably wouldn't even change.
EVE, it'd be nice for you to be the counterpoint person, sure. A little sarcasm directed towards news content is always welcome. It'd be like a TDC Daily Show! ;D Except with Zelda/gaming news... Wow, I'd love that.
So, send in a sample of what you might do. Maybe grab an article off of some other site, like The Hylia or some such thing, and just comment on it. PM it to me if you'd like, unless you really really want to post it here. And, link the the original article.
Oh, and I'll take more where I can get it, so if anyone else is interested in a counterpoint spot go ahead and do the same thing after showing interest here. For that matter, if anyone else is interested in posting news be sure to make it known. My dream is to have a news team.
I call being Stephen Colbert!
There. I finished.
I couldn't find the pictures of the flags, so threw the two leevers in there instead. I don't have flash, so you have to picture the sand, the flags, and a MUCH cooler design. Remember, this is all I could conjure up. ???

Neat, but it needs to be
much wider. Think, VAST EXPANSE OF SAND-- and we're right in the middle. We're the single, solitary oasis of (in)sanity in the Zelda world. The place where those of weak body and soul can take solace in the fact that we're taking care of them. FOR INSTANCE: Throw a few gradient maps over it. Some warmer colors... but then reduce the opacity so it's not obvious.
Exactly: Like reduce the opacity of "DESERT COLOSSUS" too. Again, thats not exactly how I intended it there, but I tried. You've got a good image in your head there EVE. I like it.

However, I thank you VERY MUCH, TOO. VERY. ENOUGH THAT IT MAKES ME WANT TO TYPE IN ALL CAPS.
And we'll see on the Chu Jelly one, Dragmire. :)
Yay!
BTW,
when are we going to get these accounts set up?
Alright, regarding layout changes:
Jack says he'd be OK so long as it wasn't a radical change. He loves the site the way it is now, but he'd be willing to see a new layout if it "wowed" him. Those seem to contradict each other, yes, but I think he means something between the two. I don't know. Most important, though, is that he'd want to see any possible designs first. EVE, are you up for the challenge? They keep saying you are...
On that subject, I think it would be nice just to shine up the current layout... like, maybe keep the color scheme but add sheen to the sidebar and such, and maybe change the header. I don't know, whoever makes it can do figure it out. I'd need a sample of that, though >.>
On the staff openings front, I could sure use more reporters. Like I said, I'd love a news team. Eh? Eh? More columnists are also welcome, and anything else anyone can think of. Don't be afraid to apply!
Oh, don't worry--Tacheon can DEW it! He's done amazing stuff with imagery in the past, and I'd love to see what magic he can conjure for the layout.
Say, you think Alpha's still around for news updates? Didn't he do last year's (or a year before) E3 news? Or was that Jack? :-\
Of course I'm up for it! I'll go ahead and PM you when I'm done with the preliminary for the banner-- to see if you and Jack like it.
And if you REALLY like it, I DO have a PayPal account, you know. ^_^
You're not that good, ya know.
You mean "Not good enough to get payed".
Otherwise, no, he's definitely the guy for the job.
He's better than bad.
He's good.
Yeah. I'm log.
And Dragmire, it was a joke. You're not that smart, ya know.

I'm impatient!
Oh, and I got your latest installment up, Magmar. Check the front page for the update. I also mentioned this topic, so hopefully we'll get some more positions filled. >.> Could sure use more, I think.
You rock, dude! Can't wait for the next update! :D
Now all that's left is Chapter 14...and then... ;D
I'd love to write a complete walkthrough of OOT! Here's my sample:
Part one: Gearing up
As you start a new profile, there will be a cutscene of link's nightmare. After that, you will see the Deku tree asking Navi to aid our hero on his quest. Some would disaprove of the aiding part...Nonetheless, she goes to your house and tells you abruptly that she will be link's partner. Walk to through the door and saria will speak to and obviously say nothing of importance. You can explore kokiri forest if you want but you will have to get the kokiri sword/dagger and a deku sheild. First the sword. Go to the area of fencing with a kokiri biy punching his fists in the air. There's a hole next to him. Go up to it so the action button says enter on it. Enter it and you will pop up in a maze like place with boulders rolling around. Here you would want to go to more of the North western side. There will be a big treasure chest which has the sword in it. Open it up and equip it on the start menu. With that you can fell enemies and cut grass! As of now you will need to collect forty rupees to buy the deku sheild(imperitave) from the kokiri shop. Though, feel free to collect any extra rupees to purchase anyting else you feel neccasary. Just heed that some items in the shop you can get for free by collecting in the forest and in the first dungeon you will enter shortly. You can collect rupees by throwing rocks, running through grass, or cutting grass clumps. The lost woods also has some rupees. It is accesable by climbing the vines near the exit, behind a house. Once you collect those rupees, go to the kokiri shop and purchase the deku sheild and equip it. Now you are set to go into the first dungeon! Hurry to the entrance of the deku tree's area. It is being blocked by a kokiri boy(you needed the sword and sheild equiped to make get out of the way. Proceed after you talk to him.
Aside from a few grammatical errors, and a little bit of fogginess on what you're talking about (at times), I'd say its excellent!
A bit of better organization would help, too. It's important in this case because the player's going to have to switch his/her focus between the game and the walkthrough, and losing your place between those switches can be annoying. Add some indents to separate paragraphs and fix those mechanics errors, and you'll be good to go!
I fixed it up. And btw, i did the first one on a hurrry. I guess i was exited that i could have gotten a job here :-[
Well here it is:
As you start a new profile, You will obviously need to give your link a name. As you complete that, there will be a cutscene of link's nightmare. After the hero's dream, you will see the Deku tree asking Navi to aid our hero on his quest. Some would disaprove of the aiding part...Nonetheless, she goes to your house and tells you abruptly that she will be link's partner. Walk to through the door and saria will speak to and obviously say nothing of importance. If you are a new player, then feel free to explore kokiri village.
As of right now, you will have to get the kokiri sword and a deku sheild so the kokiri boy will alow you to gain entrance to the deku tree's quaters. First the sword. Go to the area of fencing with a kokiri boy punching his fists in the air. There's a hole next to him. Enter it and you will pop up in a maze like place with boulders rolling around. Here you would want to go to more of the North western side. There will be a big treasure chest which has the sword in it. Open it up and equip it on the start menu. With that you can fell enemies and cut grass!
Now that you have the sword, you will need to collect forty rupees to buy the deku sheild from the kokiri shop. Though, feel free to collect any extra rupees to purchase anyting else you feel neccasary. Though, you must heed that some items in the shop you can get for free by collecting in the forest and in the first dungeon you will enter shortly. It is being blocked by a kokiri boy. Proceed after you talk to him.
Once you enter that door, you're in a small hall. Past the hall is the dek tree. Once you walk up to him, he will ask you to go inside him(creep). Do so to enter the first dungeon.
Ah, I don't know, pal. The walkthrough content itself seems good enough, but the overall writing leaves much to be desired... There's still a good bit of errors in there, it could definitely use some sprucing up still. Only the best for TDC, after all!
Anyways, I don't think we need to worry too much about the walkthroughs here at TDC, although they are far from perfect. That's not really a staff job as much as it is contributing to the site. Staff jobs are more like news reports, main page stuff, eh? But, yeah, even if you want to help update the walkthroughs here at TDC, your submissions would need to be clearer and more grammatically correct. (Not to mention spelling...) So, work on that, eh? And we'll see about getting them updated.
On the subject of walkthroughs, we really should be getting with the times here at TDC. Does no one have the necessary setup to make video walkthroughs? If someone does, would one mind making/contributing some here at TDC? I'm going out on a limb here, I know, but it doesn't hurt to ask. ;)
And, on the subject of staff positions again, since there haven't been many takers here at TDC (::)) I was actually thinking about looking on other sites in the community. However, I kinda don't want to do this, as it seems somewhat... rude... to me. That is, asking for site staff on other Zelda fan sites that might need their own staff members. So, what do you guys think? Should I try it? Do you think it would yield any results? If I can be convinced, I'll do it!
Oh, and I'm still looking here, so, if you've been thinking about applying, do it already! Though I doubt it'll happen if it hasn't already. :'( Maybe some of you have friends who are good writers and Zelda fans? I don't know... am I grasping at straws here? One can always dream...
I actually started working on an OoT walkthrough awhile ago, but I haven't worked on it for ages. :-*
As for intersite staff requests, it sounds all right. But as you say, it probably should be at sites who probably aren't looking for staff members. I wonder...is ZeldaBlog in need of staff members? If not, maybe you can ask there? Not sure if you'd get an an acception, as they're probably busy writing their own blogs, but it sounds like it's worth a shot...albeit a long one.
It would be nice if ZB had some kind of community update feature, where I could contact its writer to get a shout out for possible staff. Maybe it does, anyone been there recently? It's down right now anyways, so I can't do anything.
Anyways, I was thinking more along the lines of site forums, so unless ZB has such a feature I can't see how I'd ask for staff there... unless I tried to contact some of the people who comment there or something. Yeah.
Mmm... Maybe some of our other affiliates are "up for grabs," so to speak?
I would write walkthroughs, but last time I did that (sinking hours and hours writing out what I came across) Jack completely scrapped it. My TP Walkthrough is nowhere to be found. I blame Alpha for being so superior :P
Anyways, while I can't guarantee that I can find things, I'll definitely report anything Zelda related that I find. You can at least count on me for that. Other than that, I'm completely useless. -.-
Edit: And I'd be happy to be a mainpage writer. Jack had me doing that for a bit a long time ago, and I'm much better with grammar now. If you ever need me to compile information into one readable frontpage report, I'd be happy to take a shot at it KP. If you need a sample from me, give me some information to write about.
It'd be nice if we got the PH stuff done. The guide for it is almost completely empty.
I've been checking out our affiliates, yeah, and if I did it I'd do it on those sites. I don't know what constitutes as "up for grabs", though...
I do remember that, ZV. Technically, unless you quit you're still staff at TDC. Ha! Still, I would like a sample if possible. Looks like you'd want to do news, so, I suppose you could find your first story and present that; it would even be a good test of your news skills. Or, write a review like I suggested, just as a sample. Anything you can think of, really. And news should be simple so, you wouldn't have to worry too much about your writing. Short, clear posts are what I'd look for in news reports.
Oh, and I suppose that would mean you'd have to be actively looking for news, so, yeah. If you can do that, send in your sample!
Yes, PH does need a walkthrough. Forgot about that! Any takers?
Ummm... Alrighty then, what the heck kind of Zelda related news could I come up with right now? Well... I'll look around and see if I can compile a report about the possible new Zelda game. I know most of the people on the site know already, but it hasn't been put on the front page. News gathering isn't my bag baby- but I'll try. I can't guarantee weekly updates either, because I'd eventually run out of things to report.
Well, E3 is coming up. Maybe you can do that?
News isn't a "weekly update" sort of thing, of course. It could be every day, or every month. >.> Just depends on the news, so, yeah, you're right. Don't worry about that.
And, it's just a sample, so any news you find would be fine. Get old news if you have to. Be sure to link to your source, things like that. If you find new... news, then that's great, and it could be your first post, but if not you can do just about anything you feel comfortable with for th sample.
And, yeah, E3 should be busy for those of you applying to report news, be ready!
Okay, I just typed a big report, and Microsoft had a problem, and shut down deleting everything.
I'M DONE WITH THIS. ??? ??? ??? ???
No autosaving was enabled? Of course, it pays to often save manually.
I don't care!
I'm not doing it again!! >:(
AUAUUAUAGGHHH!!!
I HATE TECHNOLOGY!!
I wonder if the Amish people next door are this stressed out with their computer... ::)
I guess I can do the news, then, if I can. You want a sample up, KP?
Well I'm relly eager to get that place. Here's the patched up sample:
As you start the game, there will be a couple of cutscenes, one of which is the Deku Tree summoning Link and telling Navi to aid him on his quest. The first time you actually get to control Link is when you have to exit his house. Saria will talk to you outside and say nothing of importance.
As of now, you will have to get the Kokiri sword and the Deku sheild to be alowed access to the Deku Tree. First, the sword. Go to the Kokiri Training Center on the left of Link's house. As you pass all the fencing, you will see a hole in the wall, which you need to crawl through. In there will be a maze with boulders rolling around. Once inside, go left until you hit the wall, but don't change your direction, and go right. You will end up at a treasure chest with the kokiri sword in it. Open it up and equip the sword.
It's simple to get the Deku sheild: all you need to do is collect 40 rupees. Some ways to collect them are cutting crab grass, running through grass patches, and throwing rocks. Also, you can go to the Lost Woods which is located North of Link's house on a cliff which has vines to climb on the side of it. Once you collect the rupees, buy the Deku sheild from the shop. However, feel free to buy anything you feel neccasary but just bare in mind that everything in the shop besides the sheild can be found with in the Forest and the first dungeon which you will enter shortly. As you did with the sword, equip the sheild.
Now that you're all suited up, go to the right side of the Forest and talk to the kokiri boy that's blocking the way to the Deku tree's quarters. When you go up to the Deku tree, he will ask you to go inside him(creep). Do as he says and start the first dungeon.
Very good! I have something to add to that though- jumping across the rock platforms by the Kokiri Shop will nab you 5 easy rupees.
Oh da i forgot about that... :-X
ZV, you get back to trying, or else! >:(
Magmar, you don't have to do the news if you don't want to, your column is more than enough. However, if you actually are interested in also doing news... well, I wouldn't need another sample necessarily, since you've already proven your writing prowess. But, maybe you should send in a sample news report anyways, just so I can see how it would be. Either is fine, your choice.
Goris, there's still a good bit of spelling errors in there, mostly repeat offenses ("sheild", etc.). That's cosmetic, though. However, there are other parts that could use fixing. For example,
QuoteGo to the Kokiri Training Center on the left of Link's house. As you pass all the fencing, you will see a hole in the wall, which you need to crawl through.
That's a bit vague, I think. You should describe the Kokiri Training Center as a fenced in area, instead, and perhaps say to walk to the left of Link's house until you find such an area, instead of just saying it's "on the left of Link's house" (which sounds, to me, like it's directly to the left). Also,
QuoteOnce inside, go left until you hit the wall, but don't change your direction, and go right.
Wow. That's just awkward. It's simpler just to say "go left, then right", and it's basically the same thing. Don't make things sound more complicated than they are. Also, you might have wanted to mention that the boulders are rolling and must be dodged in there. And, what ZV said, too.
Improvement is still needed, but like I said, these are really just submissions, and not truly staff positions. Even so, they should be as well written as possible before being sent in. I wouldn't want to go back and forth with you like this every time you send in another part.
Hmm... here's a thought: what if you started a topic in, say, the OoT board, related to the walkthrough? There you could post little sections like this one, and then we could all work together to make it clearer and add things to it. The final product would then be added to the walkthrough page itself. Too much? Just throwing it out there.
good idea! *goes of to scam people into working for him*

I am quite interested, actually. I remember when Alpha was at the helf for
Brawl updates, and it does sound like fun.
I'll get to work on the sample; I don't think it'd be too long because some of the material I use for the E3 updates could be for other updates. Trying to avoid stale styles, you see.
I'll get to work on it, though. It'll be on OoT. That'll be fine, right?
EDIT: Okay, here we are. A rough one, and my info may not be entirely accurate by date or place. Gets the point across, though.
What up, fellow Zelda fans? MagmarFire of the forums, reporting all the news that Nintendo is dishing out at E3 this year on the newest Zelda game, fresh out of the oven! You guys are probably missing Alpha or our very own KamakaziPlumber to do these, but as you can well imagine, they're busy with other matters at the moment. Guess you'll have to settle with a new writer for now, eh? Well, I suppose so! You're going to deal with it and LIKE it!
...Okay, sorry. Put that pitchfork away...
Well, anyway, as we all know, it was a good...five years, was it? About that time ago, we've had the first handheld Zelda game, Link's Awakening. It captured the magic of A Link to the Past into a package that can fit in the palm of your hand. Revolutionary. Today, however, we get another ground-breaker. Nintendo has just announced that their next Zelda title will be Ocarina of Time, due to be released on the Nintendo 64. That's right—a 3-D Zelda game! We're all stoked to hear of one to hit the shelves, and we'll be taking a good look during the press conference to see what this next game will have in store for us. Let's take a look, shall we?
Graphics
This should be enough for us to be excited: We're about to play a three-dimensional Zelda game—that means we don't have to keep looking down at our green hero while we play. We can enjoy it while, at the same time, enjoying the high-detailed scenery! Can you say, "All-directional first person examination"? ...Okay, maybe you can't, but at least you can see the world from a first-person view to get a good view on the dungeons. And boy, do they look SWEET!
Gameplay
With 3-D graphics comes 3-D gameplay, and with 3-D gameplay comes...whatever comes after it! New to the game is that you can more freely interact with the world by the use of Action Icons, where if you use them in the right places, you can do stuff that can aid you in your quest.
And with battling, more to come is the feature known as Z-Targeting, where you press or hold down the Z button in order to focus on one enemy at a time. With this, you can shoot without aiming manually, keep your camera view on the enemy, and strafe around it and dodge and evade attacks.
And look at that, Link's got a horse! ;)
Storyline
At this point in time, we don't have any news on how the story is going to be, but that will change as news develops. All we have, however, is some news that Link will be able to switch to different time periods and change his form between ages (much like A Link to the Past, no?), meaning we'll be playing as both a child and an adult! And we also seem to have a leaked screenshot of one of the dungeons as an adult: the so-called "Temple of Water."
As you can see, it looks freaking awesome! Think of the puzzles and underwater exploration you can achieve with this one! I would not be surprised if this dungeon were to become one of my favorites in the future, if not for the hopeful ability to walk underwater. Let's just wait and see, won't we? ;)
To the point...
And there you have it! The news up to this point about the next biggest Zelda game in gaming history! I will be here to keep you up-to-date on the Zelda news as the Nintendo Press Conference continues, so check in every now and then for news updates!
Until then, I'm off! We're in for one wild day, guys, and let's hope all this hype on OoT comes up true in the end! Later!
It's good, a bit longer than I expected it to be... But, that's because it's an E3-esque article and therefore would contain a lot of information. Short and sweet news reports are always better for less content-filled topics than, say, reports padded with useless information.
So, yeah, I can see you being a news reporter if you think you're up to it. You've got your style, which... might be a bit too personal for straight-out news, but, if that's how you write best, it's fine. Don't try and be something you're not, eh?
And ZV... you'd better be trying again, pal.
...I'm confused.
What's up with this? I thought it was just: "I like your story. BAM. You get a front page account."
Like, are you not going to have multiple newspersons? Why are you making this people do this much work just to prove they have potential, even if it's already there? Maybe I'm just confused and a little drunk.
Okay, maybe I'm rather drunk.

Did you try going back into microsoft word? Usually they'll have the file saved in case an error occurred. Granted, it might not be the entire file, but it would still be salvageable.
Sure, in fact I'd hoped for multiple newspersons. I gave Magmar a choice, he didn't have to write up a sample. The only reason I wanted one is to see how his style would play out, is all. Just a precaution, not very necessary considering his earlier sample, but, still. That's all. Why, did you want to do news AND comment on the news, too? AND work on a layout? AND fix up the MM walkthrough? You're crazy, pal.
And, yes, JQ is right ZV.
Oh. Oh, I see.
Well, then.
Also, sorry the layout idea's not coming along as quickly as I'd like. I'm suffering from MAJOR lack of inspiration.
Umm, Flower-power psychedelic magic time?
KP,
I'ma be at band camp for the next two weeks, so I won't have much access to a computer besides the library there.
So what's the deal? Is my story gonna get posted or wat?

Aaallllright...

Oh, um, well, when does the camp start exactly?
You know, if TDC isn't blocked then you *could* update from the library. I mean, it would be possible, technically. But in reality the problem would probably be a lack of time on your part.
Alright, well, according to when your camp starts I'll see about getting your account set up. The others, too, eh pals?
Uhh
tomorrow

I gotta get up at 6
That's why I could really use the account now so I could update the page

Sounds like a plan to me. I'll be like a mix between The Colbert Report and Mad Money... I'm excited!
Hit me with it, KP!
And you're in Great Britain, right, Dragmire? Add about five or six hours to mine, and we get... about 6:30 or 7:30. Do you leave in A.M. or P.M.?
Well... alright, since it's become urgent... I suppose I could get some of the finalized staff members their accounts. But this doesn't mean staff applications are closed! :P
Alright, Dragmire, when you get the info to sign in go ahead and post the news story we already discussed. Plus, I think I saw you mention adding something to it somewhere on these forums? That too if you feel like it. Just remember to stay simple!
Magmar and Tacheon/EVE/Dharma, I'll see about also getting you accounts, but, maybe not as quickly eh?
And yes, ZV, go do it!
Haha, no I'm in Texas foo
I merely put the British flag there to piss Tacheon off
He's always complaining about Brits
No Central time, meaning its an over later on the East coast
AM
Okay, silly me. :P
And no rush, kamakazi. I can wait. ;)
Alright, Dragmire's news post is go. Be sure to at least try to update while you're gone, pal, what with E3 and all that! But, only if you can.
Magmar and GuyWithTheNames, I'ma go ahead and set you guys up too. Maybe we'll see some more posts tonight? Or tomorrow? Or sometime?
ZV, are you done yet?!
Oh, also, I'd like AIM contact with you guys if possible. Helps with organization methinks. Is OK?

What? Since when did I care about Brits? If I did make snide comments... I make them about EVERYONE.
On-topic, you can go ahead and rush on my account, I won't mind. 8^)
Alright, since you and Magmar already had commenter accounts, I updated them; you can just sign into those accounts to post. You guys know the link, right? It's the same as when you go to register, eh? Go for it, pals.
I wonder whether we should have an HA2 commentator to talk about the happenings at HA2 every now and then? I mean, you're an HA2er and all, but you're usually not active, I have to tell you about the topics that are going on >.>
Oh, goodie! ^_^
And I don't think AIM would work; don't have it... Would PMing work?
I decree, then, that he who smelt it shall have dealt it. Or something along those lines. Anyways, Ninja gets to do it... if his sample is good enough.
How about it? Is your sample good enough, pal?
Um... no instant messaging at all?
Here you go KP.
Its simplified, and greatly shortened.

The Legend of Zelda: Valley of the Flood- Despite the thick cloud of skepticism around the community, those have been the words on every Zelda gamer's mind ever since a debatably real interview leaked from 4chan. In this interview, Eiji Aonuma answered a few questions asked by "Kyle" and it concerns the next Zelda title. This is all rumor for now- but the entire interview can be read here (http://boards.ign.com/nintendo_wii_lobby/b8270/165626165/p1).
In a nutshell, Zelda has taken an industrial leap, and is threatened by an impending flood. The protagonist this time around isn't Link, but rather a boy who believes he's the reincarnation of the hero told in legends! A twist many gamers might be uncomfortable with. Still, it sounds very different, interesting, and provides a look into what direction Zelda could take. In the interview,(the supposed) Aonuma stated that more about the game would be unveiled at E3.
With E3 rolling around the corner, we won't have long to wait! E3 begins on Monday, July 14th at 1:00PM. The Schedule is as follows:

How was that?
Mags, we've been trying to get you on AIM for over a year...give in to temptation...do it...
and fine...guess I'll pick a few topics to describe...Post that in a bit...
Oh. My. Crap. ZV, that was frickin' amazing. You're in, you're so in. Did you... did you copy that from anywhere, pal? It's too perfect.
Although, technically quotes won't work in Cutenews so there will have to be some changes, but, wow. Alright, another news poster. You're getting your account... reupdated? I don't know. Actually, it's ready to go. Get to it, pal!
Oh, and yeah, Ninja. You too. ::) And yes, Magmar, give in to temptation. It would make things much easier.
Thanks dude, and no, I didn't copy it- I just invested some time in it. So... what is the account for exactly, how do I log into said account, and how(often) do I post?
You know where you went to register for commenting? Same page. There's a link to it in the comments for any news post.
The account is for Cutenews, same as you used to do. Just news reports, in general, about anything you find. Pretty much goes for the "How often" question as well; news is finicky, so, you post when you find. Just try to be actively looking, eh?
Posting is simple, but if you need help... Why not hit me up on AIM? Or I could PM you. That goes for all of you!
QuoteAlright, HA2 has been tremendously busy lately, what with summer being here and all. As some of you may not know, we have been able to actually work on the content of the RP, now that we have FTP access, and some new mods and RGs who have been hard at work getting things ready.
So over the last few months, we've had several firsts--The first new weapons since HA2 started years ago, the first new screen added since the start, the Rules Set is finally going to be updated and made easier to understand for the first time since a little after launch, not to mention the first RG-led Events in at least a very long time.
South Hyrule is even close to opening--all that needs to happen is for Gohma to finally be defeated at a topic near Ruto Town. Therein lies the problem--we need as many fighters as we can get to bring the spider down. So if any old members who have been debating whether to return are reading this, please return. We could use you. And to anyone wondering whether they've been wanting to join, now's a great time, as the Gohma topic is the most important topic ever made in HA2.
We've also had some very interesting topics started by our members.
KamakaziPlumber has launched the next part of his storyline. I've talked with him a lot about the dungeons he's going to be implementing, and they've all got incredibly challenging and creative puzzles; definitely a good one for those who like the water temples in the Zelda series. Not to mention that he is quite possibly one of the most humorous writers in HA2, his colorful cast of characters making the topics exciting and entertaining, instead of just getting drunk or bickering.
Alpha, the oldest active member, is still writing his FoG, the oldest active storyline. There's a reason his topics are renowned in HA2, they are definitely worth joining, or just reading if you need something to do. He's past the halfway point in his arc now, and he has some of the highest-quality writing you'll find anywhere.
Orpheous has started a topic about a tragic mass teleportation accident that I know nothing about, but it looks incredibly intriguing...he's known for being clever, so who knows what he's going to do with this mystery?
I myself (Sabertache) have tried to implement some games into the RP to add more variety to what we currently have to offer. They're a quick, easy way to level up and make money, and may possibly have greater prizes if my discussions with the powers that be go well.
RG has started an interesting Quest for HA2's third birthday--everyone is out looking for some kind of seed. Who knows what the rewards will be, or if they'll even find this seed, but it's bound to be interesting, as RG hasn't done something like this in quite a while.
So yes, if you've been wanting to join HA2, but have been put off by the stats, don't worry; the stats are really a secondary thing, and pretty much any member there will be more than willing to help you. We're a nice bunch of guys (and a few girls), and we have a lot of fun. Nothing ventured, nothing gained, right?
Seeing as how I didn't have a real topic in mind, I just kind of rambled...
Hey, um, is this in HTML or BBCode? I don't want to make my first post a coding NIGHTMARE
HTML. And you need to hand-<a> any links, too. But, yeah.
OK, Ninja, looking good. A bit lengthy, would definitely need to be split up, but, informative and serves its purpose. I'll see about getting you set up as well.

STOP RIGHT THERE, DHARMA!
I lied before. Actually, I didn't, it just recently became a lie. HTML no long works... not hand-coding, anyways. I turned on the WYSIWYG editor for less HTML-savvy users and it now apparently ignores any tags written into the text field - that is, it treats "<"s and such as characters, and not tag open/close-y things, so it uses the HTML code to represent them and everything goes haywire.
The solution? You can use the editor, or, if you MUST code yourself, just be sure to hit the "View Source" checkbox. Then it will show you all the code for the text, and you can add any code you want while it's checked and it will show appropriately. Neat, eh? Don't forget!
And where's that layout, pal?! ::) Just kidding, I'm sure you're working on it... right?

STOP RIGHT THERE, DHARMA!

Thank you for warning me before it was too late.
And as for the layout, as I posted before, I'm doing all that I can, but I'm suffering from major lack of inspiration... or rather I'm inspired, but not for that. Would you mind if I were to get together a few of my graphics buddies to help out? I mean, they wouldn't want any monetary compensation or anything, but they'd at least need to get equal credit.
NO.
Oh wait, I mean, yes. Go for it! If you think it'll help, then, don't hold back. And, credit will be given where credit is due, so don't worry about that either. So long as it's great, we'll all be happy, including Jack. ;D
Bah, I submitted my news article... I'm not so sure about the coding, but that's your problem now, KP.
APPROVED!
I split it up just because it could be, hope you don't mind. Front page is kind of stuffed with articles as it is, so, wouldn't want people to miss the rest!
Also, coding was fine except for the CRAZY font thing. I fixed that though.
I'm a fair writer, so I'm told, but being a PS2 owner I'm not sure how much use I can be on Zelda game guides and reviews unless you let me do older ones. :(
well, if we're discussing layouts here, tb, might I suggest a black and red look???
...black and red does not suit the Desert Colossus.
Think, Spirit Temple colors.
Yeah, I think Jack was right on the money with the color choice. It's just a matter of making it all prettier.
... Tacheon, didn't you just say you weren't going to work on the layout anymore? Don't say that! :'(
And Merchant, I don't know how much we need game guides for older games... I think they're all accounted for, for the most part...

Yea, I guess your right. Maybe you could move some of the right handed stuff on the left, like have to bars a left and a right side. So it might look a little nicer that way??? Oh and a new banner would do the trick to... maybe... :D
Moving the banner would make it like a lot of the other Zelda sites though. I've grown attached to this layout.
Or we could just make a more attractive banner?
You have no idea JDog

:sigh:
I tell you what. Why don't you go ahead and make one with your 'gay Photoshop' and we'll use that one.
That is, IF it's better than the current one.
No, no, we're working on something incredible.
Don't waste your time making a new banner, because we already have one.
Just sit tight for a while.
I don't have photoshop to make it... I was just saying...

Yeah, nice suggestion though! Thats actually what the mods have been talking about, so you're right on. :)
Point is, if you'd been reading at all, you'd know that we're already working on a new banner.
Umm... Front page update time?
He says that it's likely going to be tomorrow before he updates.
I know basic html, so I could probably add some things if you ever needed me to?
Can we all agree that this thread has outlived its purpose?
I think so, Tacheon. If it's needed again, though, KP can easily revive it.
