In the interest of getting SandCast up and running sooner, rather than later, here it is: the Official topic!
All SandCast crew members should converge here to discuss ideas for the Cast, preferably solid material for the first show. Behind-the-scenes people, this is where you come to shine, but everyone involved should do their part as well.
Meanwhile, anyone who wants to join the SandCast crew as either a behind-the-scenes person or a voice should "apply" here. If you have a mic and you are at least remotely interested, I suggest you join up. If you don't have a mic but want to participate, you can obviously be a behind-the-scenes person or, if you choose, a voice, if you're willing to acquire a mic for the job.
I'll get things started! I have some possible guests for the earlier shows, here's a short list:
- Phantompig, former site staff semi-TDC-celebrity
- Weienw, veteran TDC and HA2 member
I did say short, after all. 8) I only have Phantompig as a confirmed guest,
possibly a SandCast voice, but definitely a guest. He actually suggested Weien. I can't really think of many more people, ideas?
Also, we should start working on the layout of our first show. Namely, what will we talk about? List some sections, maybe some short descriptions of them. If we're going to do a short walkthrough of a tough spot in a Zelda game, which spot? If we're going to review a game, which game? Not necessarily too detailed, but, at least an outline, no?
The water temple-we could get a video of someone (coughtaccough) playing through it and have a few discussing what you're doing.
"you play zelda's lullaby here, etc." and I'm sure we could come up with some witty comments, like "Hey, if it's Zelda's lullaby, does she fall asleep when she hears it?"
wat
Why do I have to do it
*sigh*
okay...
Anyhow, Tacheon reporting for duty.
because you're cool
and i don't have a copy of the game. o_o
Well I'm just going to FRAPS it on my computer anyhow... it's the only way to get decent video quality.
Ugh, it's gonna be SOOOOO slow.
Heh, would we need a recorded video of it? A podcast is audio after all... couldn't he just play it live, on air, and commentate on what he's doing while we make jokes?
How would we know what I'm doing unless we're all at my place?
PARTY AT TAC'S!
anyway, I thought podcasts had visual as well... I don't know how I got that idea, but I don't know. -shrugs- We could always just have Zelda related conversations.
Some are. But, I don't think we have the technology to do it >.> Well, Tac, I suppose you could prerecord it, then send us a link to the video (on YouTube?) and we could all be watching it during the show. I... know that sounds complicated, but, it's what we'd have to do for us all to see it.
I vote for the party.
Party it is, then! ;D
Also, there's been a change in plans regarding our recording technique. Mixing expert and SandCast crew member Tayro says that it would be better if we each recorded ourselves individually. So, this is what we're going to do.
We're still going to do the show on Skype as a conference call, live, like we said we would. But each of you will download Audacity as well. Using Audacity, we'll each record ourselves individually (and, therefore, with higher quality). Tayro will then take each file and mix it in his own copy of Audacity. He will make it pretty. Everyone cool with that?
Whoa, I already have Audacity, how neat.
Wait, so we're going to record the conversations with Skype AND with Audacity, and then we're just going to have Tayro piece it together? Tight.
We won't be recording with Skype, really. Well... I might record it just for safety, but the primary recording will be done by Audacity. Skype is just so that we can all hear each other and do it live, etc. In fact, we don't even have to use Skype now, but, we might as well... it's probably the best.
So, anyways, how are we going to do the walkthrough section, really? Would you be cool with the Youtube idea? You'd commentate over Skype anyways for the Podcast's sake, anyways, but seeing the video would make it easier to respond to. For us, anyways.
Also, the MZT3K section would be between 10-15 min long, according to Tayro. He'll be writing it, eh? Is everyone alright with it being one long story, told in episodes? It would be pretty epic...
Ok.
"Cool" to everything.
Excuse me everyone, I'd like to announce that there is NO possible way I can help with behind the scenes work. I have far too much on my plate as it is, and while I won't make my position official, I'll still let the "Behind the Scenes" people know if I have any ideas for the Podcast. A position is open for behind the scenes work, and I thank you all for understanding.
This is a really cool idea... I wouldn't mind maybe helping. But it depends on what you want me to do. I'm kinda busy and I barely get on here...
Well, now that ZV isn't officially a behind-the-scenes person, I'd still need a more... "full-time" replacement. But you're welcome to help anyways, MK08. As a behind-the-scenes person, you just have to help come up with ideas (at least) for episodes of SandCast, then help mold those ideas into a format fit for the show (i.e. writing a script for it, outlining it, coming up with specific topics related to it for each show).
For example, you might think of someone to interview, then convince that person to come on the show, and then, say, write up some questions to ask them. Eh? Now, if you don't have a lot of time, then, just coming up with the person to interview would be helpful.
All right, I see. Thanks, KP, you're really helpful.
So do we actually have any solid ideas for the first podcast? And what day it will be released?
Our only absolutely solid idea so far is the MZT3K concept, which would have a 10-15 min. episode in each SandCast. Each episode will progress the storyline, eh? But, besides that, no "solid" ideas. I'm pretty sure we're going to have interviews, if you want to consider that idea solid, and we've been considering the short walkthrough idea, but besides that we have nothing. But, that's why we have behind-the-scenes people ;D!
As for a day, not even close. We need to outline the first episode first, at least.
You know, when I was younger, I used to write Zelda fanfics like crazy. I have nearly 5 notebooks full of them.
I'd be more than happy to spruce them up and donate them to the cause, Maybe you could sue them too, as a sort of story telling thing.
But you have to give me credit. :P
Well now keep in mind MZT3k is not a fanfic-- it's a mockery of a fanfic.
Sorry, but story telling through a podcast would sound kind of corny... Just try to picture yourself reading to people... yeah...
Granted, I just looked at a few of them, and they were kinda chilidsh... so yeah, no. :P
But I can help with other stuff. My schedule is tight, so maybe I can just help come up with useful ideas...

Honestly, I liked my original idea better... but if everyone's set on this... <_<
>.> I agree with ZV. The idea of MZT3K is... like, a radio play. We wouldn't be reading, we'd be voice acting. You could always submit your fanfics to TDC, though. :-\ Or just come up with ideas, yeah.
Who ever said MZT3K was a mockery? :P Well, OK, so MST3K was. I suppose Tayro could be counted on to do satire. We need to decide, though: do we want a mockery of fanfics, or, an actual story? Keep in mind that the section would be episodic intervals of a longer story, eh? Although I suppose we could do more individual stories. But it might be easier for Tayro to write against a planned storyline, rather than coming up with new, short stories every time, eh?
EDIT:: Wait, what are we set on, Tac?
Well yeah.
What is mean is, rather than having a serious story to go with, it should be satirical and humorous, as opposed to anything that could be taken remotely seriously. I don't mind it being episodic or anything, but above all else it must be frivolous.
He's mocking me again, ignore him. :P
I like the idea of a mockery better. It would be funnier for the audience and probably more enjoyable in general.
Well, we need to tell Tayro to write satire, then! I have no doubt that it would be funny. But I can't promise that people won't take it seriously. You know how people are. But, then again, we do want fans, no? Anyways, anyone on HA2 knows that I hold comedy above all else, when storytelling, so, I'll send word to Tayro.
I assume you'll be putting these podcasts around on the home page of the website.
Also, would it be members only? That might prompt people to join, listen, and maybe check out the forum...
Yeah, the main page. Haven't decided exactly where to put it... might revive TDC's old News Ticker, in place of the featured article. Or, I don't know. I'll figure something out.
Well... I don't know. I'd like to think that having popular content would be enough to convince people to join. I'd hate to force people to join just to listen... some might miss out because of it. I was thinking we'd advertise the forums during the show, eh? Not to mention, I wouldn't know how to force people to join in order to listen in the first place... not without overhauling TDC to work with a CMS. Which, we don't want to do. Trust me.
See, I was going to say that maybe we could advertise for the forum during the podcast. I was afraid to say so; I thought the idea would be counted as stupid and then shot down.
If you do decide to add and advertisement, don't make it too obvious or obnoxious. Don't wanna annoy the listeners...
Nah, we'd just mention it, like, once in an episode. In between two sections or something like that.
Now then, the sooner we get a full episode planned, the sooner we have a first episode to create and make available. Let's get to it ;D!
So far we have this:
- Mini-Walkthrough(?)
- Interview
- Episode 1 of the story
What else? And, details? For the walkthrough, for the interview? I still say we start small with the interview, and get TDC members and such.
For mini-walkthrough, let's start with the Water Temple as Fishy said. That seems to be where most non-hardcore gamers get stuck in OoT.
For interview, let's start with KP and/or Gamefreak (OHMIGOD LET'S GET JACK).
The walk through is an excellent idea. I have walkthroughs at home from Prima for Majora's Mask, Twilight Princess, Windwaker, and Phantom Hourglass. And I practically have a walk through for A Link to the Past in my head.
I can help with this. Prima guides rock...
And here's a good idea to add to the show: maybe something to do with art? Maybe advertise for an art competition here on TDC? Listreners can submit any Zelda artwork to maybe you, KP, and then we cna have a contest and an eventual winner.
Yes, we'll describe the art pieces on air?
That sounds more like a general site thing, MK08. I think the idea in there is: we should have a kind of TDC News update, describing whatever event we have going on that month. :-\
OK, Tac. Well, are you going to record and post to YouTube like we said? And why would we interview me? ??? But, GF is a good idea... and Jack would be intense. I don't know that it would be possible, but, it would certainly be intense.
Hmm... I suppose if we did do an art contest, we could describe them on air >.> But it would be... strange.
No, they'd be posted on the home page of the forum after submission. They'd be judged and then the winners would be posted. Contest style.
And if you're doing a walk through, the Ice Lake Dungeon in ALTTP trips up many people as well.
The ice lake dungeon is contingent upon magic. If you don't have magic, you're just not going to be able to beat it.
And we should save that for a later dungeon anyhow-- we should use OoT, the most overplayed Zelda game of all time, to lure in the non-hardcore gamers. Then, as we progress through the podcasts, we'll start going to more and more obscure games.
I vote CD-i games immediately out of the question at any point, unless we're going to mock them violently.
Well yeah
That's sort of a given
They aren't even canonical.
OH SNAP
We'll cover a theory or two every podcast, and we'll discuss what's wrong with them and can be disproven canonically, logically, and what's left to wonder.
I vote we start with HylianDan's Tower of Babel theory first.
Alright, OoT first it is. You going to take care of that, then, Tac?
Ha! "The CD-i Mockery Minute". We could play quotes like morning radio shows. >.>
Oooh, theory discussion. Good call, there. That's a keeper.
"I-I-I can't WAIT to b-b-bomb some d-dodongoes!"
Yeah, I don't really have anything really planned, or any ideas. Except to not listen to music while we converse, since that might make things a little hard.
I'm putting that there for me.
I think Tayro might mix in some soft background music, just because. I don't know, it's up to him. But we won't have music playing in the background while we're recording, no.
I am about to commit the horrendous act of double-postage. Please forgive me, as I have good reason. :'(
Tayro is back from vacation! And, as radio play writer (which is the only part missing from the Cast, really), I think we're about ready to get the first episode out!
Now, it'll still be some time, as Tayro has to work... really, all of us do. But to break it down, this seems to be how the first episode will be laid out:
- Introduction
- General Discussion (probably brief)
- Theory Discussion on Tower of Babel (Really interesting)
- Mini-walkthrough (You still doing this, Tach?)
- Interview (Hopefully with Weien)
- Radio Play Episode 1
Now, regarding the Radio Play: I know we want satire/humor, but, Tayro is a little wary of doing this. To paraphrase, he claims he's not so good at satire and would have some trouble writing it "well". Plus, he had already quasi-planned a more serious story for the play.
SO! We compromised. To repeat myself, I am known on HA2 as the comic relief, and I happen to be skilled at injecting comedy into the situations found on HA2 (which, usually, are not humorous at all). So Tayro and I are going to work together: He's going to create outline-esque mock-ups of his story for each episode, and then we're going to go through it together to funny it up. Hopefully, the result will be an entertaining and humorous, yet captivating, story, that we can all enjoy. Any objections? I hope not.
Yayz! Update! (Don't worry; I think your double post warrants an overlook for updates like this.)
Hmm, funnied up in what ways, do you think?
Well, "funnied" up like how I funny up my posts in HA2, I suppose. Or close to that. Tayro will help, of course, so it'll be varied hopefully. But... I suppose the best way to put it is just plain funny writing. Comic relief, you might say, applied liberally throughout the story. Probably some satire or allusions where possible, I like to do that a lot. Overall, I think it'll be a nice compromise between a "serious" fanfic radio play and a "satire".
I'm a tad confused here ;) but It looks kinda cool ^^
It's a potential TDC radio show. Read it up, and you'll see? There was a bit more in the Original Content thread but it's a bit far back.
The point is we're looking for voices, ideas, etc. Possibly it will entail a radioplay, too.
I am also a Producer and Co-Procucer of many dubs and popular anime series, so script is not a problem there - plus If I hold my radio play up again it might make things better.
If you give me some key points that you want I will create a draft script and send it to you. - Sound okay? :)
Well! Sounds interesting at least. Would you be willing to write a full radioplay related to Zelda in some way? Preferably comical, especially great if it's satirical.
How long would your script be?
The script length depends on if it is an episode thing.
I can't just come up with a radio play.
I will need characters, story and the main plot.
A radio play is a stroy with no moving images.
If you looking for somthing to advertise then a Podcast would be best.
What are you looking for exactly?
The radio play that I produced was a LoZ 4S radioplay that went along with the manga.
Ah, well, the SandCast was to be a new form of content here at TDC, to be upgraded... say, monthly. It's basically a general Zelda/site Podcast, but the episodic radio show attached to it would have been a kind of hook.
Now, see, that's where the problem lies. Tayro, who was to be the author of the radio play, seemed to have an idea for a story/characters/plot in mind, but he doesn't have time to do it now. So there's nothing in that department really. All I can say is we had hoped it would be an original story.
Of course, you wouldn't have to work on the radio play necessarily. Mostly it was the fact that you seem to have the equipment required to be a part of the show itself. Unless you don't? In which case, you could still work behind the scenes...
Sigh. Maybe it would be better to do the short story idea, where each episode is a completely different story. But that would take even more effort, it seems to me, since we'd have to come up with new ideas for stories every month as opposed to moving a single story along.
I wish I could write a radio play myself, but unfortunately I suck at big ideas.
I have all the equipment required, but making a Zelda radio play can be veryy hard 'cause of Link's voice e.c.t..
If I was you just start out small and THEN build your self up to the bigger things like Radio Plays
Actually, I'm not sure if Link would've even been a character or not. Who knows.
I don't think a radio is much of a big thing once it's written. But I suppose it is quite the undertaking. If you mean me writing personally, then... well damn. I've been doing that on HA2 long enough. It's the general writer's block messing me up.
Hey. I would be willing to help with this. I know I'm not by any means an active member of TDC, but if someone could email me about what is going on, I could for sure help with anything.
Alright.
I'm opening this up again because... I really don't want it to die. The idea, that is. I think the only problem with it lies in the Radio Play area, for which I will now suggest a solution. Bear with me as it is epic:
I propose that we (me and anyone else willing to help) create (write/record/produce) a radio play based on what might have been the story for Valley of the Deluge. Yes it was fake, but I know it interested a few of you and it absolutely captivated me, so why not try to take that interest to the next level? This would be an immense undertaking, as o0Zelda0o said, but if there was enough backing behind it I think it would happen.
That being said, there is a serious lacking in the backing. Anyone willing to help (especially people willing to lend their voice to the SandCast) should SAY SO A.S.A.P. I feel like I'm really reaching by now, but, maybe this new idea will inspire some of you to lend a hand.
If you want to hear my ideas regarding the Deluge story, PM me or something. Talk to me on AIM if you want. But please post here if you're willing to help with something.
I guess I'll email Pyrgusfinn. Meanwhile, think about it, guys!
You know I'm always willing to lend my vocal services, as well as some very limited production stuff.
Scriptwriter/ideas guy, at your service?
I might not be able to do much, but I realize that my Hey You, Pikachu! microphone works on my computer, so I can lend my voice for special occasions, if that'd be all right.
I take it special occasions means every day forever. Good, good.
Counting Magmar that's... three voices and a Shika. I need more people.
MOAR.
Alright, Kesmi here for voice duty. :] I'm not exactly sure what's going on, but I'm sure I'll understand once we start.
((Nice avatar KP, it's been so long since I've tried making one!))
Ka-bump.
Let's get this show on the road, shall we? :D
OH GOD NECROPOSTING
I am in a worky mood, so here's what we're going to do: An introductory podcast. Tonight. NOW.
If anyone, ANYONE has a microphone and is willing to speak, post so in this thread, tonight. Like, seriously, this idea can't die, as it will help to make TDC as a whole more popular.
DO IT, ALL OF YOU, NOW
I have the mic, but as for willingness......I guess it might depend on what you discuss. If it's something I can get excited over enough, I could grab my mic, download Skype (which I assume will be required), and participate. My laptop seems to be doing much better, so it's more likely my Internet will crap out on me before my laptop does.
EDITZ: Would the Talk feature on AIM do, or will it have to be Skype? That might be a small factor in my decision.
That's awesome. This will simply be an introductory as to who will be talking, what they will be talking about, and a maybe doing things like highlighting neat features and members of the forums or something. Shouldn't be longer than 20-30 minutes of continuous talking, maybe more if we get more people.
Yeah, about that.....Sorry, but I just don't love my voice enough. Maybe another time?
;____; Fine, I see how it is. I may just record my own voice, then... but if I can't find anyone else, I'll have to continue begging you-- you realize this, yes?
Wow it's a shame this died... the idea for the Valley of the Deluge script is just awesome... Sorry if this is necro-posting, but are any of the people who were originally involved in this towards the end still active or around?
OMG yes.
Well, we're working on getting the podcast started up again, but for now it will just be a Zelda discussion podcast. Later on, when we're comfortable with the process, we might include the radio play. But that has been bogging down the whole project up to now, so I decided just to cut it off.
That being said, are you interested?
How is the process going? Remember, if you need a voice, I can provide one. ;D
In two weeks we will probably start recording.
Well, after the 4th anyways. But YES MAGS PROVIDE A VOICE YES. As long as you can hold up your end of a discussion regarding Zelda past, present, and future, and you can be available for recordings, you're on the panel!
YESZ! :D
Just tell me what to record, and we'll be good. ;)
I'll let you know when our first recording session is. On that day, we shall all Skype each other in a group conference call. While we're discussing with each other in real-time, we'll each run Audacity in the background to record our individual audio streams. Then everyone will send me their file and I'll edit them together.
All for free!
THE FIRST SANDCAST HAS BEEN CREATED! WOO!
You heard right, we spent a few (okay, many) hours putting together the first Sancast just for you (and your friends, and acquaintances). We're currently in the post-production process, which means we're currently censoring every time I let some blatant profanity loose. Once we're done with that, the Sandcast will be ready for the public! ARE YOU EXCITED? YOU SHOULD BE!
Umm, can I have a transcript?

And to appease your curiosity, which I hope you have, we're doing something like an online radio show about
Zelda and TDC. The cast for the first show includes KP, me, Tach, Phantompig, and Joe Link (not to be confused with JoeLink [without the space]).

I think he just meant to say Joe >.> Also known as "a ninja", also known as ZeldaForever.

That was epic! I'm really looking forward to the next one. The quality was not great at some points though, I could hardly understand you guys every so often.

Thanks, FR. Glad you enjoyed it! :D
And yes, Armos do rule.

Yes, and I'll probably put the text itself in the full story too.
sweet. Can't wait to read it and make sure I understood it all.
It's halfway done, Mags is finishing it up and correcting my egregious mistakes.
So, can I be in the next one?
I have some ideas we could talk about.
What programs do I need to be in it?
Also, I believe that " if all else fails, use fire" should be the exiting quote on all podcasts"
The way we have things set up, you only need Skype and a working microphone.
Sweet, can I be in it? I am not radio-shy whatsoever.
Very nice.
The audio quality was a bit off and there were some awkward pauses but apart from that I am very impressed.
I've listened to a fan made podcast before and it was awful (the guys sounded too geeky) which totally put me off them, but this was much better than I thought it would be.
You all sound lovely!
Thank you!
Actually, this brings me to some updates as far as our system goes. Guys, we may have to use Audacity after all. It's more difficult to handle, yes, but we'll end up with better overall audio quality. Plus, we would have to worry less about having mics of differing quality because we would each have an isolated stream of our own voices, and therefore could play with each person's Amplification and whatnot until we come out even.
Mags, I hate to threaten your RAM usage, but really, it shouldn't be that much of a problem.
Tach, I don't know what's going on with your setup, you may be the only hitch in the plan. Although... you know Audacity has a Mac version? This would also solve your echo problem.

So do you have a extra spot that I could take up?
Well there are no "extra spots", but the SandCast is more of a roundtable show, so yeah, as long as you're willing to discuss Zelda and TDC and you have a working mic and computer with a stable internet connection, you're welcome to join in the fun!

You were the one recording last time, right? How much RAM do you have personally?
Actually, I guess I could use it next time if it isn't that much memory intensive. Knowing WAVs, though...
Actually Tach recorded, but he used Call Graph so the RAM usage would probably be different. Also he used it on a separate computer...
Seriously, though, how much RAM do YOU have? Because you shouldn't be too worried about it unless you only have like 512 mb, or MAYBE 1 GB but even that would probably be enough.
I have 2.99 GB of RAM. I guess I really don't have much to worry about if I keep Firefox closed down during the recording...
Two ninety... two... two ninety nine? And you're worrying.
I hate you Mags.
You could probably keep Firefox open for that matter, jeez. I basically have like 3 GB recognized by XP too, and I was running Skype, Audacity, and a ton of other background stuff at the same time. Are you telling me that we could have had a crystal clear first episode?
ARGH.
ijustdon'twantmycomputertocrashmidwayandcatchmeoffguardleavemealone DX
2.99, actually. Two hundred ninety-nine would be kind of beastly, wouldn't you say?
I knew it was 2.99 >.> I just wanted to emphasize it because OMG HOW COULD YOU THINK THAT YOU COULDN'T RUN BOTH SKYPE AND AUDACITY?
Anyways next time we're doing it that way, unless Tach comes in with some excuse.
I was afraid because despite 2.99 being a lot, WAV files do take up a lot of memory, too.
And sounds good. Tach, I hope you find your mic. D:
Oh, and hey, did we think of beginning advertising? After all, since we now have the episode recorded, it would be a pretty good time to do it.
Advertising? Where?
Well I've got like four different little banners circulating up in the top right. >.>
But as far as other sites go, no, not quite yet. Actually, Friday night I discovered that Zelda Dungeon... also has a podcast. :( I was kinda counting on them for advertisement until then. So I'm not 100% sure what to do about it yet. But I'm thinking?
Guys, still waiting on that transcript.

I left the ghost computer too close to mine, and the built-in microphone on it caught my voice, too.

Ah... In that case, please take your time.
Did the podcast ever get on itunes?
Yes! Sooner than I expected, too. Like a few days after I submitted it, which was when I put it up on TDC.
So, KP, do we have a date for the next recording?
How many downloads on itunes have we had thus far?
It's looking like the next recording will happen later this month... unless you guys are up for doing it this Wednesday? Seems kind of sudden to me, and I may not be able to do it anyways - if we wait a bit, then we can plan it a little more and possibly include user input for a first time.
My only issue is that I may ask one of you guys to host next time, no big deal. I'll still be there to talk about it and I may be able to host anyways, but since I'll be in my dorm with a roommate I'm not sure what the noise level will be, so it would be best if I didn't have to talk as often. We'll see about that, I guess.
And how can I tell how many downloads there have been? I was not aware of that ability.
I do have youth group this Wednesday, but it should be fine if we have the recording at or after 9:00 P.M. if Wednesday's the date we want. It doesn't sound like a biggie.
You know what guys? I think it would be better to just wait. I am not going to be able to plan anything before hand and we don't even have an outline of discussion topics yet, so I don't know if we'd be ready by Wednesday. Unless you guys want to work double-time, on your own, waiting may be the only option...
Eh, if you feel it's best to wait, then I'll gladly wait. Like you said, it would give us time to attempt user input.
I'm fine either way.
PS: Mags, get Windows 7.

PS: Mags, get Windows 7.
May I ask why?
And may I also ask how that's on-topic?
It's on topic because KP mentioned before your RAM issues and reluctance with runniung stuff, especially stuff like Audacity, which is directly related to the sandcast.
Vista is a broken OS, and upgrading to Windows 7 from Vista won't be a problem at all. This should solve any and all ram/slowdown issues you might be having.
Windows 7 is a far more leaner OS than Vista. I highly recommend making the upgrade.
Two things, though:
1.) You assume I am running Vista. I am running XP.
2.) It's not RAM issues that I have; it's the RAM issues I'm afraid that I will have. For instance, I heard that if you run a video capture device for too long, your computer will crash. I figure that something similar could happen, but I figure that if I keep Firefox closed during the time of the recording, I can keep my fears to a minimum.
.........
You're... Running.... XP?
And you're worreid about having problems if you run something like audicity? AND you have 3 Gigs of RAM?!
*facepalms so hard*
QUIT WORRYING!
Besides, Audacity isn't a video-capture device. So that excuse is pretty much moot.
I have only a measly One Gig of Ram. ONE GIG. That's all. And my computer has NEVER crashed or experienced slowdown. Thus, I must conclude that your concerns are highly exaggerated.
Quote from: JQ Pickwick on August 09, 2009, 09:56:19 PM

It's not necessarily moot when you consider that it dynamically allocates memory similarly to a capture device. It essentially keeps all the audio in RAM so that it can be saved to the hard drive when ready.
And yes, you would be right in concluding as such, since I prefer to play it safe in most instances. Isn't that something that you would encourage? It's certainly better than going all, "LEEEEROOOOOOYYYYYY JEEEEEEENNNKIIIIIINNNNNNNSSSSSS!!!!" on the matter.

Mags wins forever. End of story.
We will probably be using Audacity this time around, though, guys, so prepare. Maybe we'll run Callgraph along side it, just in case...
Callgraph would also be much more useful if I were to keep it further away from the computer I'm using to actually chat, which I'll be sure to do next time :P

There's a difference between 'playing it safe' and being so over-cautious about everything that you're afraid to do much of anything at all.
Also, about .wav files, there are lossless codecs out there (Like FLAC, APE, and Wavpack) that can make the wav file smaller without compromising any audio quality. That's why they're called Lossless codecs, as opposed to MP3/AAC which are Lossy.

And likewise, there is a difference between "being afraid to do much of anything at all" and refusing to actually go through with it.
Fortunately, I don't think I've ultimately reached that point. I feel I've made it at least somewhat clear that I'm willing to go through with using Audacity for the recording as long as I keep RAM usage to an otherwise minimum.

Aw, shucks. =3
But anyway, the real reason why I'm replying to this is because I'm curious as to if a recording date has been slated. College is starting for me in only a little more than a week, so if it can be done, it would be most beneficial for me if we can try to get one more recording session in before then.
Let's do one, perhaps tomorrow or the next day. That would be most convenient.
That sounds pretty good. Whaddaya say, KP?
I start college classes this week, so I don't know guys. Reason I haven't been around lately is because I've been busy moving in to my dorm and going through orientation. ANYWAYS, I don't know how this week will go yet, so we'll just have to wait and see...
Here's hoping it works out, then.
are we getting a new pod cast anytime in the near future?
I certainly hope we do. But with the school year started again, it may be pretty difficult to schedule a recording.
What do the rest of youse think?
Hey guys, don't know what you know but I figured I'd give you a heads up on any information I'm privy to.
I asked KP earlier this month about the next SandCast and he said we'd be doing another one sometime over Winter Break. That was a week or two ago though and I haven't seen much of him recently. I'll let you guys know as soon as I have more information.
In case you didn't know I was the ninja. :) I've got a new microphone now so whenever it does get done I'll actually be audible without any post-recording editing.
I haven't heard anything at all. I hope we do another one soon. :(

...Crap in a bucket. DX
Where is his mic!? D:
I left my mic in my dorm room. ::)
If you guys are all really, really up to it, we could do one once I get back to school. But it would have to be on the weekend (probably) and at night (definitely).
Let me know.
I'm up for one on the weekend, depending on when. I'm almost always free during weekend nights, too, so I'm all up for that.
I'm free any weekend except the 16th.
I doubt it's gonna happen, but in light of the reveal of Skyward Sword and Ocarina of Time 3D, I suggest we have another SandCast. We're way overdue besides. :P
Yeah sure, why not.
I was actually going to avoid suggesting we restart the podcast until I realized something: this year I won't have a roommate, so I'll be free to do a podcast at almost any time. So... maybe we could try to make this a regular thing finally? I mean I know you guys will probably be busy, but I'd really like to see this come to fruition and my only previous inhibition was knowing that I wouldn't be able to participate. Now there's really no excuse... so what do you guys think?
I'm up for it! :D
I'm probably only going to be able to do it on the weekends, though, if we're going to stay up late recording like last time. Work and all that. However, if it's done before 11:30 or after 5:30 on any other day (unlikely), then great.
Ah, KP finally crawls out of the woodwork, eh? :D
I'm free whenever, and this is a good idea. If we can find a way to advertise it, it could potentially bring us traffic.
Excellent! >:D
When shall we get to it, then?
EDIT: Tonight or tomorrow. LET'S DEW IT.
Finally this comes back!!! YAY! I can advertise to get more traffic :D
You might want to hold on that; KP still hasn't gotten back to me, and we haven't done the recording yet.
I really hate to say it, but if we're going to do it, we may have to do it without him. :(
I was planning on waiting till it was really done before doing anything anyways XD But I still hope that this thing gets relaunched
>.>
I'm all for doing this still, but we need to plan and know what we're going to talk about. We can't just jump into it like crazy people. We need a list of topics, and some time to decide what we're each going to say. So... that.
(Like I said, I'd really like you to join, too.) Some are pretty easy, I think.
Skyward Sword impressions
--> Art style
--> WiiMotion+
--> Super Guide
Nintendo 3DS
--> Ocarina of Time 3D
Hyrule Adventures relaunch?
Any others? :D
KP, I should add that I have figured out some good ideas for my project and will begin working on it this next week.
As for topics, you could also talk about the way that Skyward Sword changes the Zelda series. The origin, its placement in the timeline, the element of the sky and what this means for Zelda overall, a more broad thing that might let you touch on ground that no other site has yet.
*is still wondering when we're going to do this*
I was wondering the same thing.
Give me a chance to move back into my dorm this week, next weekend would be fine. I'm actually in a better position to do this at college than I am at home...
All right, excellent.
...Oh, wait, I just remembered. My sister's having her wedding next weekend. DX I may have to do it Sunday of that weekend, but that's kind of just hoping. It may have to be the the weekend of the 21st.
I can do it on weeknights too, but I won't be fully moved in until next weekend. The week after should be pretty free though.
All right, I do not have anything planned this weekend, so if we're going to do it before we get homework piled onto us, this weekend's the prime time.
What say the rest of you?
I'm guessing nobody's been able to get a hold of KP? I need to talk to him about a project as well. I also might be able to join the Sandcast next time it's done.
Not a word from him, I'm afraid. I'm gonna have to e-mail him and see what's up.
It would be awesome to have you join the discussion next time, Shika.
You guys really shouldn't email me, it will just get lost in the mass of emails I get every day. You're better off IMing me...
Ah, point taken.
*proceeds to bug KP* :3
Okay, so we've got SOME new content going, with Walter doing his videos on the front page. Now, are we going to keep with the Sandcast thing?
It's up to KP, I guess, but I think he's been busy lately.
We're getting to a point where it really shouldn't be held back by his busy schedule.
Well, in either case, what software do you guys use exactly? I should get prepared at least.
This time around, I believe we agreed to use Skype and Audacity. I'm not sure if we used anything else last time.
Last time, we used Skype and a program modifier called CallGraph.
But hey, this reminds me. Are we gonna do another one soon? KP's probably going to be too busy for a while, and I know I probably will be until finals are over.
What say you? Some time during winter break?
I'm all for it.
I can totes show up for it depending on when it is.
I think it's time we put matters into our own hands. Plus, the Moecast definitely put me into the groove to get this going. :D I would like KP and Tach to be a part of this, of course, but if they can't make it, it can't be helped.
All right. Who's up to being a part of this this weekend? If anyone's interested, post here!

Excellent. Anyone else? Don't be shy, now!
I'm flying back to New York on Saturday...that night, or the following morning/afternoon are good for me, or anytime Monday.
Awesome. That would probably be the best time to do it, too.
Anyone else? ...Come to think about it, I'll PM Tach and KP specifically and see if they're up to it.
... I might be able to as well, now that I think about it, if I use my sister's computer. :O
I need to know what day, though. I'll be at my cousins' this weekend, but I'm free all day Monday. If need be, I may be able to leave early or late...
Monday probably won't do for me, since my classes start that day. :(
I'm thinking, like Shika suggested, Saturday night or Sunday.
Saturday is the best day for me, if it's possible for me to join in.
The more, the merrier, I think.
Those who are planning to join in, be sure to have some topics in mind. Of course, one topic is obvious... XD
If it's this weekend, I probably can't. :C
Sorry to hear that, man. :( Still, there's always next time!
All right, Tach says he's up for doing it tonight. I'm thinking about starting around 8:00-9:00 P.M. EST so that we get close to Shika's window of joining, as well. Is that okay?
If so, remember that we will have a BoS ("Butt on Skype") policy, meaning that if you're not there by the time we begin, we will have to start without you. If you're late to the party, we will try to see if we can get you in there, but only when joining is at its most seamless for the recording (and if/when we have a good segue).
I won't be able to make it tonight, but I am all for you guys doing this. I'll take care of the files and RSS and such as soon as you guys have it ready, as early as tomorrow if necessary.
However, are you guys really ready for this? You should all have topics you agree on discussing beforehand so there is some structure... and you should really give each other time to think about those topics. Plus, have you decided who will be "hosting" this episode of the SandCast? There needs to be someone you can depend on to move the topics along at the right time, and someone who will introduce the show, panel members, etc.
Anyways, if you guys have this stuff down or at least feel ready, go ahead! I look forward to hearing it, and I wish I could be a part of it. Possibly next time, if you guys keep it up.
Awesome! We have the king's approval!
Yeah, you're right. It's probably a good idea for us to discuss the game plan about a half-hour before we begin. I'll send a message to all who plan on coming via Skype shortly. Hopefully, we won't have a Leeroy Jenkins come in at the last minute and derail our plans, haha.
I guess I'll take command of being host this time around, unless Tach wants to help out with that, as well. I've no qualm with that.
I'm happy to hear we have your support, KP! And absolutely, we'd love to have you next time.
EDIT: The tentative-but-still-very-likely time for the SandCast discussion and technical meeting will be 8:20 P.M. EST! Be there and make sure you have your proposed topics ready!
Hey guys, I don't think I'll be able to make it this time...
I will listen when it's done.
I'll try it if you want me in it, but my internet connection is crapping out, I have nothing in particular to talk about, and there are tons of people around making tons of noise.
BUT if you do need another person get on AIM (I'll be on AIM on my phone so I don't eat bandwith) and let me know immediately.
Aw, crap. D: I guess it's a better thing I asked Havoc if he would like to join us, then.
Still, I will definitely give you the heads-up if we need more people.
Double-post, I know, but we have finished recording tonight...but then something crazy happened where I couldn't save the conversation. DX
...But then, in some strange twist of fate, the program I used completely recovered all the dialogue! (And that includes the pretty hilarious outtake that we made!) Thank goodness! And now it just needs to be edited...pretty heavily, might I add. It'll probably be a day or so before it gets finished. Still, I'm just glad that we don't have to do all that recording all over again, in light of our schedule conflicts later this week... ^^;
Very special thanks to Shika, Tacheon, Fisk, and Havoc for being there! Sadly for the latter, he had to leave before we recorded, and Fisk also had to leave early, BUT we are hoping to have another episode recorded in a couple weeks, so I hope you're ready for that, Havoc and Fisk!
*White background shatters behind me*
We weren't even recording yet?!?!? I thought you already had it all set up!
I thought you knew we weren't recording yet. >.> We didn't do an official intro or anything, and needless to say, we were procrastinating quite a lot.
We're planning another one very soon, though, and you will be one of the first people I ask to join! Hopefully next time, we can get with the program more quickly. That said, I do feel bad that you didn't get a chance for glory. :(
However, Tacheon says he has a few special guest candidates in mind for next time, and we'll make sure you get a front-row seat for that!
OOOH I cannot wait! I WILL be there.
All right, I've had the recording edited and touched up for a little while yet. I'm just looking for that Gerudo Valley cover that KP used in the last SandCast, but I can't find it. Does anybody know where it might be?
Also, two weeks is almost up. We should try to get this started this weekend. I hope I'll be able to make time despite the homework I'm expecting. @_@

I'll like to avoid a delay as much as the next guy, too. Unlike last time, I'm quite haunted with homework this weekend. @.@
What do you guys say to, say, 7:00 P.M. tonight to meet up?
Unfortunately, I won't be able to make it tonight-- but by all means, go ahead without me.
Also, that special guest will not be able to make it either :c
FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF-- D:
When in the near future will you guys be able to make it?
For him, I'm not sure. Some massive coding issues are occurring on [their] website, so [they] won't be able to make it in the near foreseeable future.
As for myself, that is also up in the air. There are a lot of variables that could change my schedule quite a bit. If I had to make an estimate, I'd say Monday. However, like, I said, feel free to do it without me. Too much of a good thing and whatnot :P
Well, I would like to make it up to Havoc and give him a front-row seat to an episode with a special guest. For his sake, I'd rather wait so we can all make it.
I don't know about his opinion, though. What do you think, Havoc?
I can see where you're coming from, but as I've said, we're unsure as to when [they] will be available. We've already promised a second part to the most recent podcast, and we definitely hinted that it would be coming extremely soon. It also seems logical to have Havoc replace me on this podcast as I was there last time and he could not be, there's some poetry in the opposite proving true for the next segment.
Furthermore, aside from actually helping to keep to a schedule with the podcasts or at least give some semblance of organization, this would give [them] the impression that our podcasts are not contingent upon outside events, but are rather a TDC event that they happen to be invited to. Not only will this make it seem more like an honor than an obligation, it would also improve our PR and make us appear more... together... than a lot of other sites out there.
And besides, we can always work out plans in advance so that we record on a day that both Havoc and [they] can be available. Just because Havoc will be on this podcast and [they] will not, does not mean that when [they] are on the podcast, Havoc will not be.
I guess that's true. It would probably be best if we have more than two people in this case, so I guess we'll have to wait for Fishy to see if it's going to work. Anybody else want to join, too?
Aw, man, I'm gonna have to crack down on homework if I'm going to be able to do this comfortably. :S
I could join if you would like?
Sounds cool. You have Skype, right?
Yea I have a Skype XD I just don't use it much... So I'ma go make sure I remember my password to that and get it open
I remembered it never mind XD so Yea I still have one
Okay, cool. Sounds good.
If Fishy can't make it, anyone else?
7:00 meaning forty minutes from now? At eight I have improv practice.
To be honest, tonight might not actually work that well for me. I have a CSE project due tomorrow night, and I need to get a start on it. We'll have to see if tomorrow's going to turn out better. If I'm lucky, I'll get the assignment done tonight.
Would tomorrow night at 7:00-7:30 work?
I'm almost never busy so that would be fine for me...
Anyone else?
Okay well normally I'm never busy... I have to take my sis to the doctors so no promises that I will be there tonight...
All right, then. I'll be on Skype at around 7:00 (EST, of course) and wait for people to arrive. If at least two other people don't show up within a half-hour, the recording will be postponed.
Get your topics ready!
EDIT: Oh, and before I forget, remember that my username should be the same as what you see on the forums.
So did it happen tonight or was it postponed? I just got back home from all the bull I had to do
It was postponed. ;_;
Ah well that isn't really surprising lol... Well at least I didn't miss it kinda XD
Havoc said he had computer troubles, unfortunately. It was kind of a strange "perfect storm" of unfortunate events to make him miss it. I'm not holding it against him, of course.
See TDC's main page for access to your LATEST SANDCAST EPISODE.
OK, both should work now. However, if your browser isn't set up to natively handle RSS feeds then it will appear as if the RSS link doesn't work. Just use the direct link, in that case.
It's working now.
Thanks for the upload, KP :>
Well, it's been awhile since the second episode, and we should probably start planning for another one in the near future.
It should probably be a good time to tell when you will be free within the next two weeks, preferably on the weekends.
Weekends good for me XD having no job makes things so easy to plan lol
I guess I can expect you there, then. Good.
I'm sure Havoc will still want to be there, as well, but I'm not sure what his schedule is.
What about you, Tach? What about you and your special guest? ;)
I want to be there, I do!
But my stupid sound card is still down! I could be typing, but I won't be able to hear you...
There's so many ideas around this that I have, but won't work!
Aw that's so very FAIL I wish I could help you out dude! I have sound cards to spare but I wouldn't be able to get them to you TT_TT
Ah, crud, you still have sound troubles. I forgot about that. D: I hope that's fixed soon!
I have a mic and Skype now, so if you guys tell me when I should be able to plan on being here. :D
All right, guys, before I go into a Phoenix Wright binge, I figure I should let you know that if you can make it, Skype at 8:00 P.M. EST. Be there.
EDIT: ... (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M1s-JrNYdlA)
I'M SORRY I WASN'T ON!!! I COULDN'T GET ONLINE TILL LIKE TEN TT_TT
It's all right. I wasn't going to do it unless I had at least three or four other people show up. I think it's my fault for not giving a meeting time earlier. XD
Yeah, I read this, and I got all excited
But realized I was an our late. ;_; We should confirm attendance as well, rather than hoping people are going to show up~
Yea I did the same thing XD I got on I was like YEAY! then I noticed that I was like DARN YOU TIME!!! And then sad face
We really need to get in gear with this, man. XD
All right, then. Who's up for a recording next weekend?
It's shaky for me... Maybe Saturday night, probably Sunday night~ But I can't guarantee. :P
Just as long as we get a specific ballpark estimate by then.
Saturday or Sunday works just throw a time out before the day so I can be sure I'm home then xD
Around the usual 8:00 P.M.? (EST, of course!)
Okie Dokie! Sounds good to me
Excellent. Any confirmation from anyone else?
Saturday or Sunday? o.o
Indeed!! I will need to know that o.0
... >_>
I doubt I can make it tonight, and I don't know if I can tomorrow. XP
I'll be here. Just tell me when.
If it's tonight I may not be able to... Tomorrow I can def. make it though :P
Gah... One thing to miss after another... My bad, guys.
This may have to be a thing that'll have to wait until close to the beginning of May, when classes are over and done with and I'll only have my job to worry about.
However, if there are any objections to this, do let me know, and we can try working something out for an earlier date.
Sounds like a plan to me. I mean if it would make it easier to have them more constant and times more easily gained, it's totally worth the wait
They're even smart enough to change the name of the topic? Damn~
As for the SandCast, I'm all for waiting. I'll have more time, and there will be a lot more to talk about. ^3^
So how are we going to get people to see this?
You mean advertising? Good question.
If only we had someone to plug us... *ponders*
Okay, so since summer's here and that I actually have more time to commit, how about we do another SandCast soon? Since E3's almost here, this would be the perfect time to do so.
Meeting on Friday at 8:00 P.M. EST? Meeting time will likely change to Sunday night. More info to come!
EDIT: In light of Nintendo's conference, we need to have this meeting! GOGOGOGOGOGOGOGO!
Pizza and I haev discussed E3; so yeah, it's a good topic, I think.
I will make time in my schedule to be there for this one! So expect me to be on for it
Good. I'm trying to drag Tacheon along and making sure there are as few conflicts with people's schedules, as well. Please review the planned meeting times periodically and raise any objections you have. Epic finger pointing is optional.
But of course of course, I've taken time off from the recording due to E3 either way soooo I'm free as a bird for whenever you're ready so I'll be active almost constantly on here :P
We'll be sure to let you know, then. GET READY!
Pizza and I are doing the Phoenix Wright auditions Sunday, from roughly noon to eight. That's three to eleven for you...we could probably end early, though.
Whoa, you're on the West Coast? For some reason, I thought you were in New York. ...Wait, that was during classes, wasn't it? Crud.
Aw, well. I think we can make that work, and it would, indeed, be good if you can try to give us a little extra time. Do you know how much earlier you can make it?
Regardless, I think we'll make it Sunday! Prepare yourselves!
Saturday isn't possible? Because that would be SO much easier.
Unfortunately I won't be able to make it Saturday.
And for everyone, we've learned that Friday isn't an option, either. It seems that Sunday is the day we each have a mutual schedule at least part of the time.
Alright...we'll attempt to get done as quickly as possible then.
Sweetness!
Okay, then, as a heads-up, let's try to get onto Skype at, say, 10:00 P.M. EST? Shika may not be done by then, of course, (but if you think you will, please let us know!), so if that happens, we can prepare and goof off until 11:00 P.M., when we can begin.
Any objections?
None here :P That's when my gf's leaving my place either way so it will make that way easier for me xD
So far, so good, then. Until then, think about what you're going to talk about! Of course, in light of E3, that's hardly going to be a problem, I'd expect. ;)
How'd the recording go, Mags?
It seems to have recorded just fine. There is echo in the beginning, though, and that's my fault entirely. It might be possible for me to try to mitigate the effect in Audacity, but if not, we'll have to deal with echo for the first part of the recording. It's a little distracting, but I don't think it makes it incomprehensible. I should have it up and edited later this week, so prepare for that.
In the meantime, it might be a good idea to plan for the next one. I speak mostly for the fact that I encountered a pretty interesting rumor about Miyamoto putting a hiatus on the series if Skyward Sword "isn't the best Zelda to date" or something like that. I think that would be a very good topic to deliberate on, among others.
So tell me when you guys are free next! I think it could be anytime during the week, even...except maybe for this Tuesday night for me. What about you guys?
I'm free when ever just give me a heads up before and I'll make sure to be there :P
I pretty much handle things on a day-to-next-day basis, so give me a time and I shall make it happen.
Let's try for Thursday, why don't we? My mom should be in Arizona by then still, so I won't have to worry about being too loud as much. 8:00 P.M. EST?
Also, if you have any special guests in mind, please speak up!
Sounds like a plan ta me :P
Sounds good, then. Be there, or be a sponge!
EDIT: I have the episode edited and ready to go...hopefully. Personally, I think I kind of rushed the editing, so I'm going to pass the MP3 over to Tach to see what he thinks of it, like where the music needs to be, what needs to be cut, and all that jazz. Just know that it's almost ready!
There's a chance I'll be able to get in on the Thursday recording since I'll be back in my apartment with a microphone, but I can't be certain today. I kinda wish I'd been able to join in on the E3 talk since now I'll be behind. =(
If you could join in this Thursday, that would be awesome. It would be nice to see you return to the airwaves after two years. ...Wow, I can hardly believe it's been that long... D:
So, tomorrow eh...yeah, I think I can do it. Although honestly, the weekend would work much better. My grandparents are in town, so...
Would you rather not do it tonight, then? If your new suggestion works for everyone else, then why not? You'll have to be more specific about the time.
I'll still be waiting at around 8:00 P.M. EST if there isn't continued support for the time change, however. If you really don't want to make it tonight, then that's okay. No pressure.
EDIT: Upon repeated request, the meeting has been postponed to hopefully sometime this weekend. Another PM has been sent to those planning to participate.
Fortunately, this gives you more time to join in if you're feeling up to it. If you're interested, post here with an accurate timeline of when you'll be available, and we'll see if we can fit you in!
Graduation parties for some friends Friday and Saturday, they get done pretty late...they both go from 5 to 10. 8 to 1 your time. So, honestly, an earlier recording time would work beautifully for me, instead of late night. Or Sunday. Sunday is wide open.
It sounds like everyone is wanting the day to be Sunday. I'm cool with Sunday (even though Ocarina of Time 3D is out then, hehehe), but it seems there may be a conflict somewhere with Tacheon and KP. Here's the compiled Sunday timeline so far.
Mags: Free all day
Shika: Free all day
Tach: Free in the evening
KP: Has to do groceries on Sunday but fine otherwise
I may be wrong in assuming that you do your groceries in mid-afternoon, so if you can specify the time frame, KP, that would be good.
Should we do Sunday Night then?
Also, how's the editing going?
I'm open all Sunday as well just name a time :P
WORST case scenario, if the SandCast does fall on groceries (even though we do tend to do them in the afternoon/early evening) I can just not go shopping.
I'm sure your groceries don't take too long. We could wait for you easily.
Worst case scenario for me: I have an emergency meeting with the band I manage and we have to kick one of the people out of the band.
No seriously, that might happen.
Do you have a probability estimate on that happening, Tach?
(By the way, how does 8:00 P.M. EST sound to everyone, assuming all goes well?)
I may be an hour or two late due to Father's Day, but I can definitely make it tonight.
Probability of catastrophic meltdown with the band member: currently at 65%.
Shall we push it back til 10 EST just in case? I may be later now because my stepmother decided dinner is the most important part and I absolutely can't go to my mother's house before seven on Father's day. And if Tach is bouncing someone...
You know what? I guess we will push it back a couple hours. You all appear to share the same sentiment about wanting to do it later, so yes, I guess 10:00 P.M. EST it is.
More OoT3D, here I come! XD
How was the last recording?
And WHY IS THE FIRST STILL NOT UP? BAKA!
KP did look at it and thought it was okay. I guess it's fine to go up. Please don't blame me, whatever you do! XD
And the last recording was stored just fine. It's still in the editing process.
Maaaaaaan, where is my podcast?
I dunno, but I'm gonna find out... Just a moment.
EDIT: Just e-mailed him and awaiting a response.
Come to think of it, I haven't even started getting the previous episodes into video format yet. I'll be sure to get to that soon. Here's hoping TF2 and OoT3D don't delay it for too long.
Oops, sorry guys, I've been busy. It's uploading now.
EDIT:: Should be up now, would one of you care to make the news post? Or should I?
I can do it if you're not up to it. If you want to, though, go right ahead.
Meh, you go ahead and do it. I wasn't in that one. =P
Good point. XD
All right, I'll get right on it.
EDIT: Aaaaaand done. Feel free to add the appropriate link when you approve of it.
I sound frightening. But good job.
NOW MAKE MOAR
Sounds good, man. There's a weird echo but it was definitely better than the ones before it :D
Also, I LOVED the censor blip! I might curse more often now
Do you wanna make the YouTube video or hand it off to someone else? I figure we should put it with pictures or something to make it more interesting.
Are you volunteering? :D
I could do it...but I have terrible editing software.
I must confess I have no knowledge of how to use anything more complicated than Photoshop.
idk if this is the appropriate place to give feedback... but i listened to the most recent one and i really enjoyed it. i laughed at the funny parts too :] the wonka bar part had me rolling...
BUT ANYWAYS
i know im a girl and all.. but im up for being a voice sometime maybe??
Well, this is the official podcast topic, after all.
Any and all voices are welcome, of course.
cool. well just let me know :]
What do we wanna talk about next?

I was hoping you'd like that. XD Try not to curse too often, though; we don't want the effect to lose its lulz.

I can try doing it, if need be. However, it could take a while. It would actually be a lot easier to use just a static SandCast logo for the videos, but if you have a bunch of picture suggestions, go ahead and list them.

I'm thinking it may have to be a general Zelda topic. I think (non-spoileriffic) news has become a bit scarce lately.
I'm posting again to let you guys know that TDC now has a YouTube channel!
I'm currently in the process of getting the first episode of the SandCast up, and I have the first part uploaded. It's just getting processed now.
It's a work-in-progress, of course, but until we spruce it up, enjoy what we have! (http://www.youtube.com/user/TheDesertColossus) Speaking of sprucing it up, Tacheon, would you like to do the honors of styling up the aesthetic stuff? ;)
Also, anyone have any ideas for the next episode yet?
Very nice! Hopefully it'll help increase flow.
Can't wait to hear the fourth cast; if you get Pizza's followers interested, we could gain some new members.
EDIT: We should debate which race would win if there was an all-out war between them. Everyone pick a group to defend, and just let it loose.
That's an awesome idea!
I call Goron.
Quote from: Tacheon Black on July 13, 2011, 11:27:42 PM
That's an awesome idea!
Yes, let's go with that!
...You think we can do that in 45+ minutes? XD
Oh, I'm sure we can.
That's one on the list, then. However, we could use one or two more topics to give it more variety. Wouldn't you agree?
I think it could fill out an entire cast and be interesting, since we'll be referencing the entire series and Kingdom to try and prove our points.
Actually, you know what? I think I'm up for a more-lighthearted episode than usual myself. Why don't we go with this the next time around? (We should mention the new layout, though!)
Speaking of which, on what days and times will you guys be ready? They could be weekdays, too. ...Just probably not this weekend, since I'll likely be too busy.
Anything but Wednesday.
Anyone else? ...Gosh darn it, I wish we could tag people in posts.
EDIT: Guys! More Zelda-related news that we can talk about on the SandCast!
Aonuma working on a new IP and his saying that he likes the idea of working on something other than Zelda.
BIG
I hate to be all "WHERE IS THE NEXT SANDCAST", but WHERE IS THE NEXT SANDCAST?
A link to it should be in KP's e-mail inbox right now, but I haven't heard anything from him yet. I'm guessing he's busy. :/
Well it's up. Magmar will you go ahead and make the news post?
It would be my pleasure. ...But I don't have the server link. It doesn't show up on the RSS feed, so I'm kinda outta luck.
Unless you're going to edit the post like last time. I'll go ahead and do it anyway, then.
EDIT: Done!
Here's the link:
http://www.desertcolossus.com/sandcast/SandCast_Jul_17_11.mp3
DW, you rule! Where'd you find it? Did you just guess at the URL until something popped up?
EDIT: Aw, great, I can't edit it now. I guess I didn't set the category, and now it won't let me edit. :(
Yeah, I just typed yesterday's date into the URL in the same format as it was for the last podcast URL.
Yo.
Been a while, hasn't it?
Contrary to popular belief, I still check TDC pretty much every day. Also contrary to what would be reasonable expectations, I still (still! :o) have Editor-level abilities for news articles. So, I went ahead and added the link to your post, MF. Shoot me a PM if you'd like it edited again. :)
Alpha saves the day again! Thanks, man!
Also, it's nice to see you again! I'm glad you took the time to drop a line.
*GASP* Wait! Alpha, you should be on the SandCast with us in a future episode!
I'd love to, though the lack of a microphone would seem to be a rather insurmountable dilemma. Oh well. ^^; I'll let you guys know if that ever changes.
If it does happen, we hope that it is very soon!
Borrow a microphone off of someone with Rock Band. That's what I do.
Or I could get you one myself, Alpha. You'd have to give me some personal info (but not your SSN, obviously!), but I'd be willing to chip in a bit, as long as it's not extravagant.
By the way guys, our channel is the #111 subscribed this week for reporters! Nice work for boosting our subscriber count by, like, 80%. XD
EDIT: I am now rendering the first part of the third episode. I'm skipping Episode 2 for now because it's old news, and we really need to focus on the newest ones now before they become old news. Also...I simply don't like it as much.
Not that I won't put it up later, of course.
EDIT 2: And it is up!
Just talked to Tacheon about it on Facebook, and I'm going to try and get stuff together to be part of the next Sandcast.
Awesome! More people are showing interest!
Anyone have their free days ready yet?
I just took another look at my schedule, and between all my movie pitches, mergers and child adoptions I am still available pretty much every night. Let's just get going as quickly as possible.
Also, get the rest of the casts up on YouTube if you want the exposure. Especially Pizza's.
I agree. Classes are starting up again soon, after all. *shudder*
I think I'll start work on the fourth episode now, then. In the meantime, if any of you can contact the others and tell them to subscribe to this thread (and, of course, to pester them into coming along for the fifth episode, haha), that would be awesome. If you don't do it, though, I guess I'll take care of it after I'm done with getting the fourth one up.
EDIT: The fourth episode is uploading as we speak. It'll probably be more than an hour or so before it's completely ready for viewing.
EDIT2: And it is up and running! I've also let pizzadudemanguy know about it, so we're good to go, for the most part.
yay. I'm super excited about the next sandcast :D
the mic i have is on my "beats" headphones, will that suffice?
Even though you can't make it on Monday, sadly, (unless you really can at the last minute, which would be AWESOME) as long as the microphone works online, then it'll probably do.
yayyy sandcast was fun :] thanks for having me as a special guest.
i'd be happy to come back and do another sometime in the future.
Thanks for being there! It was quite fun indeed. Shame we didn't have more people <_<
So, we won't say any names, but...hey, it was a good time, indeed! We should definitely have you for another one in the future, and let's hope that any program difficulties with Callburner don't kill our chances. But in the end, it still sounds okay.
Whoever didn't show up is a hoodlum.
After more than three weeks of waiting (I still don't know if it's up on the front page yet, though), the fifth episode is finally up! (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yFMgRMUgGO4)
Remember, alex is our special guest tonight, so be sure to listen to her debut!
All right. I'm freaking BURNING to talk about Skyward Sword, but I do realize a lot of our panel people haven't played it yet, much less finished it. Regardless, I'd still want some kind of estimation of when we can all get together and talk about it. It need not be in the next week or so (...yeah, that's not gonna happen), or it may not even be within the next month. Just as long as I have an estimation of when our speakers will be ready.
You know I'm ready. What say you, guys?
Just finished it yesterday, however I don't really have a mic anymore. The best I can do is a Rock Band mic which we all know sucks. I should get something else soon, but it's not at the top of my list.
The SandCast will go on either way.
I have possible, maybe, chance-of-happening, hopefully, grain-of-salt-taken-with good news.
I have reason to suspect I shall be getting a microphone for Christmas.
That is all.
That would be amazing, Alpha. You were there during the days of Twilight Princess with your gaming logs, so it would only be appropriate that we have you on the SandCast that gushes about Skyward Sword.
Of course, if you end up not getting a microphone for Christmas, my offer of personally purchasing you one just so you can be on the panel is still on the table. ;)
Quote from: MagmarFire on December 13, 2011, 03:17:07 PMOf course, if you end up not getting a microphone for Christmas, my offer of personally purchasing you one just so you can be on the panel is still on the table. ;)
I'll let you know how it turns out, Mags. :)
I look forward to the results. ;D
Double posting for big news.
Judging by the promising message he sent me, it would seem that Alpha got his mitts on a microphone! Now we can continue planning for the next SandCast!
Perhaps I should create a Doodle event so we can much more easily plan. I think I'll look into that now. When it's ready, for those of you who are attending, put in your times in the available slots.
EDIT: It is ready! (http://www.doodle.com/q82t6xpumg7za42q) Just click on the link and submit all the times that are available to you. It's a little large, yeah, but I want to ensure that the date those of you are willing to do this may be in the not-too-recent future. Heck, the date range may change if it turns out January is too early for a good portion of you.
My playthrough is going slower since it's an LP, but I plan to be mostly done by the end of break. End of January, maybe.
I'm sorry, but I just don't have the time to fill out a Doodle sheet. Or I guess I have the time, but not the attention span. Anyhow, I'm generally free any night save for Tuesday, Wednesday, and FRRRIIIDDAAYYYYY

...Oh, no. You weren't spoiled, were you? (Not that I'm not glad that you're willing to do it despite it being a spoileriffic gushfest. I wouldn't think you'd be willing to do it until you actually played.)
I'd rather not have anything spoiled, no. I was already bummed when I found out that Ghirahim was the villain.
Then I highly recommend you either (1) join in the discussion when we maintain spoiler silence during the parts where it's not spoiler territory or (2) not listen to the next SandCast, period, as much as it pains me to admit.
Of course, the spoilers wouldn't cover the whole thing, so carefully splitting the session in parts will have to happen. ...I JUST REALLY WANT TO TALK ABOUT IT. I'M SORRY, TACH! T_T
Ultimately, the last thing I want to do is spoil people who don't want to be. I know the feeling, and I'd hate to have that thing on my conscience. If you're up to doing it, we'll delay it until you deem it acceptable to attend in good safety of you remaining spoiled-free.
I'm not sure when I'll be able to play it through, unless someone starts a "get Tacheon a Wii" fund.
You're on your own with Skyward Sword, but provided it's used (and, therefore, cheap-ish)...call me crazy, but I'll consider buying you the Wii itself. Set me up with the necessary outlets, and I'll get you the funding so you can play this amazing game.
So Alpha and I chatted yesterday, and we were beginning to wonder if maybe we've been waiting too long to do this. He really wants to get started on it soon, and...I can't really blame him.
With you guys' permission, would it be okay if we went ahead and got a start on it? He says he can also see if he can get Tayro to join for the first time, as well, so that'll be something. But it still won't be the same without the rest of you, so what do you guys say?
Of course, remember that the donation is still on the table, Tach. ;)

Go for it! Being prompt about this should be a priority.
Also, I love you Mags. Once I can hole up my end of the deal I will gladly take you up on that.

Yeah...I mean, Skyward Sword's already been out for several months. Every day we wait is kinda pushing it, wouldn't you say?
That said, I too feel bad about leaving the main guys out of it. You guys are like, staples of the Sandcast. But I hope I can grab Tayro to help with it. Haven't seen the guy in a while, but I just learned that he's on holidays as of today, so I'm hopeful. :)
Yeah, I agree. In that case, let's do this thing! Let's aim for sometime within the next week, preferably at night and/or on the weekend. Sadly, I'll probably be busy tomorrow due to homework, but if we can squeeze it in after that, it'll be good!
Until then, see if you can get a hold of Tayro and if he's as available as being on holiday implies, if I may request.
The SandCast meeting will begin in twelve minutes to an hour. Be there, guys! I have Pea-Tear Griffin aboard!
So how did it go?
It went very well, actually. Quite a bit of the editing is done; now I just need to put in the music in the right places, and then it'll be ready to go!
And it is finished! (http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLD980901C2900F9CD) Enjoy!
E3 is coming up, guys! You know what that means?
Drinks all around!
...Nah, a pre-E3 episode. We'll need to get this thing in before the release, so let's get to scheduling this thing! Click here for all who wish to join! (http://www.doodle.com/bet6dzn63g696vsh)
I'm not sure Dad wants me to install Skype on his new computer. I'll have to get a modem for mine...and you know what that means... :(
You could ask him if he'll let you. 'Sides, it's not like Skype is a virus bent on taking over the world. That would be Facebook.
All right, guys, it's winding down to recording time. The meeting will begin at 6:00 P.M., as per the Doodle. If all of you can get here before six, that's even better.
I will be available for the next sandcast if you ever need me. Standing by.
Good to hear! :D
I also feel I owe you guys an explanation. The pre-E3 episode should've been up for weeks now, but...well, there's a project I've been working on that kind of took time, energy, and sanity from me; as such, I haven't put it into editing yet, and since E3 was weeks ago already, I've been debating whether or not to air it as either a bonus episode for the next one or just to release it. (Out-of-date content, as it were.)
I'd like you guys' opinions on this, and I'm sorry for the inconvenience caused.
I'd take out the E3-only content and release it as a standalone podcast-- or if it's less than 30 minutes of content after all the editing, tack it onto the next podcast.
