Also, did you know that you shouldn't use Sharpies to label CDs? There's a chemical in the Sharpie that can break down the dye used in CD-Rs over time, rendering it unreadable. That's why I only label my CDs with markers designed specifically for that purpose.
That is an outright fabrication. I know that because Sharpies can be used to circle the circumference of the CD in order to destroy the anti-piracy device.

What kind of CDs, specifically? I've heard of people doing this to burned Saturn discs in an attempt to get the console to think it's an authentic disc (they're the only CDs I know of that have a security ring around the edge of the disc), but I've never heard of it working.
Also, that still doesn't mean it's not bad for the CD over time.
What if the CD-R has a physical protective layer on the non-readable side?
Is that even possible? I've never heard of anything like that, and definitely not on a CD-R.
