Question:
Merely curious.
Option 1: Alien (1979 original)
votes: 2
Option 2: Aliens (1986 sequel)
votes: 2
Merely curious to see which Alien movie the TDC members like better, since they're both pretty much equally acclaimed by both critics and audiences.
I vote for the sequel. While Alien was genius for it's slow-building tenseness and being scarier than anything else before it, it has dimmed over time, as most thrillers do. Aliens, however, was a fast-paced sequel that isn't a crappy remake of the original, as most sequels usually are. It is something entirely different, likely because of the change in directors.
I really enjoyed both of these movies, personally, but I think "Aliens" might have a slight edge over the original, both for the reasons you mentioned and for other reasons.
Hmm... Decisions, decisions... The one by the director of Blade Runner, or the one by the director of Terminator? Blade Runner was more awesome than Terminator, therefore, my vote goes to the original.
I agree about Blade Runner being far more awesome than Titanic... wait, Titanic and The Termiator combined aren't as good. (This is partly because I hate The Terminator)
Care explaining why?
I felt it was one of those extremely cheesy movies made hastily with terrible lines (yes, even that famous line is terrible) and even worse acting roles and storyline. Made solely for profit, and not as a form of art.
Looking at how much The Terminator sucked, it's amazing he later made Titanic.
You sir, have no appreciation for fine art.
*glove slap*
I challenge ye to a duel!
I consider film to be a modern form of art, just like drawing and music are art forms as well.
I accept, by the way. Because you were the challenger, I'll decide how we fight. It's usually the other way around, but whatever. We fight on the top of the Great Wall of China with rubber chickens.
The one who calls the duel calls the arena and weapons.
Pistols at dawn!
I can't believe no one else caught this. Eh, maybe they decided not to comment.

Um, why would a remake be considered a sequel? Don't sequels continue the story whereas remakes retell the story? That seems like a pretty big difference to me.
most sequels are pretty much the plot of the first movie with only minor differences
that's what i think he was getting at

Now that I think about it, though, I'm honestly not sure which one I prefer...
Alien, because i haven't seen Aliens.
Plus Alien brings back great memories. Watching it at about 4 in the morning after being awake since 4 the previous day on a coach to Austria for a school skiing trip. It freaked me out, I barely realised it was a film.
Screw the rules, I have money! >:(
And wouldn't I get to go first because you technically cheated? You DID slap me earlier in a post, remember? Attacking me before you challenged me is cheating, right? So...
Rubber chickens it is! ;D
Also, JQ, is your pistols challenge a reference to Barry Lyndon?
No, Whocares, it's actually an age-old adage.

Are you going to vote or not?
Probably not, but if I do I'm going to use the write in votes to vote for Sephiroth.
