Title: ZOMG TIMELINE ERROR
Post by: The Glamour Nazi on November 14, 2008, 05:26:26 PM
It says link was eight when OoT started and that means he was 15 when he was an adult. BUT, Link was 17 when he was an adult. As I have seen it said somewhere. I am new and have just read he timeline and i read he was 17 a long time ago. and what 15 year old looks like that anyway.

Wait, what?

I...

what?

how?

this  cannot be... *muttermutter*

What are you referring to? what are your sources for Link's age? I recall him being 10 as young link.

I don't remember an official age being given to Link.

I Think Shiggy said he was 10 in an interview i saw on Legendofzelda.com. its an old one like i said in my previous post. And I just noticed this is on the wrong forum thing, and i dont know how to move it sorry.

I actually read somewhere he was 8 and 15, too. I can't remember where, though, mabye Wikipedia. I'll go check.

Nope, couldn't find anything. Mabye they edited it out of the article a while ago, or something.

It's a matter worth disputing, but I think this hardly amounts to a timeline error.

yeah probably. But still what 15 year old looks like that. And look at Zelda she would have to be around the same age.

Nobody here thinks Link was 8 and 15. I'm trying to figure out who you're debating with.

I think so, actually. I remember reading that somewhere.

And he would have to debate with someone who has an opposite opinion, Shika.  ::)

Did you not read me saying I think so? I think Link was 8 and 15. Fifteen makes sense, because in Japan that's legal adulthood.

I think a 15 year old could look like that.

I still think he is 17 as adult and 10 as child. Does anyone know what the deku tree said when he reavealed that link was hylian? How long ago did he say it was.... Or Maybe he didn't. I really don't want to go through the game again. Fire temple really pisses me off. Almost as much as water temple.

I'm going to go ahead and assume you mean after the Forest Temple.  If not, then I got the below quote from this Quote FAQ (http://www.gamefaqs.com/console/n64/file/197771/11321) on GameFAQs.

QuoteDEKU TREE SPROUT:
Hi there! I'm the Deku Tree sprout!
Because you and Saria broke the curse on the Forest Temple, I can grow and
flourish!
Thanks a lot!
Hey, have you seen your old friends? None of them recognized you with your
grown-up body, did they?
That's because the Kokiri never grow up! Even after seven years, they're still
kids!
You must be wondering why only you have grown up!
Well, as you might have already guessed, you are not a Kokiri! You are actually
a Hylian!
I am happy to finally reveal this secret to you!
(cut scene)
Some time ago, before the King of Hyrule unified this country, there was a
fierce war in our world.
One day, to escape from the fires of the war, a Hylian mother and her baby boy
entered this forbidden forest.
The mother was gravely injured... Her only choice was to entrust the child to
the Deku Tree, the guardian spirit of the forest.
The Deku Tree could sense that this was a child of destiny, whose fate would
affect the entire world, so he took him into the forest.
After the mother passed away, the baby was raised as a Kokiri. And now,
finally, the day of destiny has come!
(end cut scene)
You are a Hylian, and were always bound to leave this forest.
And now...
You have learned your own destiny...
So you know what you must do...
That's right...
You must save the land of Hyrule!
Now, Link, break the curses on all of the Temples, and return peace to Hyrule!!

Yeah thanks. That still gives no information. (How how i Hate you shigeru, Yet i Love you so much). Any other theories on how old link is?

I'm unsure on how canonical it is, but I think Toon Link's SSBB trophy says that he's twelve. If tradition is possible, the age could be parallel to that of OoT Link's ages.

Oh i just noticed that... Wow. And that says the island people put on the clothes when they reach the same age... Maybe link is 12 and 19 in Oot

I know this is off topic, but dragon, there is a rule on this forum against profanity. No cussing allowed.
Title: Re: ZOMG TIMELINE ERROR
Post by: Hi no Seijin on November 18, 2008, 05:08:27 PM
Actually, Whocares, "piss" is allowed.  But linkdragon, do try to limit your usage of profanity; not that I'm saying it's a problem for you.  Just keep in mind that overusing profanity can be a warnable offense as well.

Whoa, thats totally weird. Sometimes I begin to think the guys at Nintendo are just making things up as they go >.>
Title: Re: ZOMG TIMELINE ERROR

I thought only the h and d words were allowed, to limited extents. I have seen members get warnings for say the p word, so I was just warning him in case he ever did it again.

ZV, as they have said, their main interests are in creating good games (which I agree with, otherwise I would no longer be a fan of the series), and plot and connection between games comes second. They have probably made a few mistakes, but for the most part they probably have a nice idea of how the timeline is formed.

I wouldn't make a big deal about it.  Like I said, limit your use of profanity, and you'll be fine.  Also, you might want to go to the Announcements board and scroll down to the bottom of it and check out the list of definitely banned words.

Now then, before we all get warned, get back on topic.

I still have the feelin no one has understood that I think Link was 8 and 15.

I understand.  I just don't really care about what age other people think Link is.  Personally, I put him at 10 and 17, but if you want to use 8 and 15, you go right ahead and do that.

Warning denied!

You're not the only one, JQ, so don't make a fuss about how bad a person I am. Don't use any random situation as an excuse to put me down. Just for the record, too, I also recieved a warning for saying it, and so has ZV if I remember correctly.

QuoteI still think he is 17 as adult and 10 as child. Does anyone know what the deku tree said when he reavealed that link was hylian? How long ago did he say it was.... Or Maybe he didn't. You said it in that post, linkdragon, in the bolded part.

Well, I guess this is just oing to be another one of those things Nintendo will never reveal so they wouldn't disappoint any fans who already made theories. I prefer this method they chose, too many video games lately have stopped creating things for the players to talk about and just concentrate on action.

I may not be and may never be a mod, I would suggest that we drop the subject and get back to the point.
...
That's how I feel. 8)

Personally, I'm starting to believe the 12 and 19 idea. But, we'll never know. At least, right now.... ::)

He doesn't really look 17, at least in my point of view. Too tall, and too mature looking. But, then again, if Link was 12, he would've been a tad taller. Just a tad. But then again, since when did this game go with the laws of reality?

Asume that those were different times, when life was a bit harsher and for a 17 year old, life was more than the PE you receive at school, so, at least for me, it doesn't seem so far fetched that Link looks somehow older than modern young adults.  BTW, I'm with the 10-17 side, it just feels right.

Although one thing that is never explained is how Link built all that muscle and endurance if he spent all that time asleep

Because whoever did that must have had some weird fetish to do a piercing to a dormant kid  :-\

I meant magic in general, but sure, Rauru must have been bored watching Link sleep all the time.

This is ancient...

It refers to link in WW as 12 but it may be after he returned the second time that they took the tradition.

Or maybe he is twelve.

I'm contradicting my own evidence aren't I?

Not necessarily. Me, I'd imagine his year age to be about the same as when he started.

I'm assuming, however, that I'm not misunderstanding what you're saying, which I possibly am.
