I think my Dad just got fired. Not good.
What/who did he work for?
And what do you mean "I think"?
That is not good....not at all... :-[
IBM (you know, computers and stuff)
I say "I think" because my mom said something about them "Letting him go". I asked if that meant he was officially fired and she said "probably". We don't know yet.
then it's a very good thing your mom recently got a job.
Tough times for the economy, mate.

Very good is a huge overstatement. Her job doesn't pay much. Not that much at all. Not enough for the whole family. My dad
needs to find another job. Quickly.
...........
But I don't even know if he's been fired yet, so let's not jump to conclusions.
Whoa...
Thats bad.
Really bad...
I have something else I wanted to say recently, but now... that doesn't seem like the best idea... wow...
Shoot man, if it is that bad you are ever welcomed to live over my garage. You'll be just like Fonzee ;D
If it weren't for the fact that food is under lock and key, it's likely no one would have this particular problem...
Sorry 'bout this, man. I hope you guys can nab another one soon if worst comes to worst.
Though I do find it a bit ironic that IBM's following the mainstream business cycle and not defying the bad economy like other information-technology-based businesses are...
Sorry to hear about this, man, that really sucks. If your mom's got a job, though, and your dad's getting a severance package (or, at least, he should be), you guys should be okay for a while. You'll probably have enough time for your dad to find another job. Trust me, I know what it's like to have a parent out of a job. You'll pull through.
Well it's official. He's been fired. But it really isn't that bad. I'm sure he'll find a new job soon.

But I already live in your garage.......
Yeah man, this really sucks. Alot of places are "letting people go" and there isn't much hiring these days due to our wonderful economy...
And my dad, who works for Wachovia security and he said they fired a bunch of people. Thankfully, he's higher up in the business.

Well thanks a lot! My Dad was really high up in the business. I'm pretty sure he got in an argument with his boss though. I've been hearing lots of fights coming from his office when he's on the phone for the past few weeks.
No one's job security is assured. Except for the bigwigs.
And the fatcats.
Obama promised CHANGE though... so when he gets into office, he has one helluva mess to clean up.
Thanks Bush!
=D
Hah, there's no way that one man's going to fix the economy. Remember, it isn't just the U.S.'s economy that's suffering. If I recall correctly, Japan is currently in a recession, too.
I'm as much for change as much as the next guy (seriously, did Adam and Eve have an economy...? >_> ), but sadly, it's likely not going to happen as quickly as people think it is.
When our economy went to hell, we took everyone else with us.
That's why Japan and Europe are also suffering.
I can definitely sympathize with you DeityHero. My dad was the spokesperson for Toledo's Mayor up until June of this year. But he resigned from his post. And since then he hasn't been able to get a job.
This recession is absolutely terrible. As usual, the big-shots and government are the ones to blame, yet they will always create some excuse to keep their jobs and fire a lower-ranked person as a "solution". Despite all of the government's talk, they still haven't learned from 1929. You're father getting fired is a great example of that.
Hopefully, you're father will get a job soon, and no one else here will have to go through similar loss.
My stepdad used to be out of work for years at a time. Through most of my high school years.
A lot of people are losing jobs. It's not just the fatcats and washington to blame, it's also the people who were greedy and gave loans to people who were never able to pay them back. It also has to do with a loophole on wall street that allowed the money to be transferred around until it ballooned to over 56 TRILLION dollars.
I was actually counting them as big-shots, JQ. I'm listing the puppets who are merely doing what the strings tell them as part of the puppetmasters.
no need to say anything if what you say is simply '... I was talking about that JQ'.
It is just an example of how things got this way that I said before.
There were multiple factors.
Fools... They didn't think about how much influence the US economy has over the World economy.
My personal job prospects aren't looking too good either. But then, since when has it ever looked good?
I was correcting you, JQ, not insulting you. Don't feel bad every time I type on my keyboard. We really should dwelve off of this topic, anyway.
So, this might be slightly off topic, but does anyone feel Obama really can take care of this mess, or at least improve the conditions we are dealing with already? Compared to how bad a job the Republicans have demonstrated they're capable of in terms of handling economic matters, I'm sure Obama will at least be an improvement.
Alone? Heck no. With a team of brilliant minds and those who actually give a darn about others? Quite possibly.
