For those of you who don't check the mainpage very often, I've started up a new series of articles: What Makes Zelda Great. Basically it's a retrospective focusing on one of the Zelda games at a time and looking to see what that game did better than the other titles of the series. Since I doubt my ability to think of every little thing that they did, I've decided to ask you guys why you think the games stand out from each other.
And as you can probably guess, considering which board this is being posted on, the next article focuses on Link's Awakening. So let me ask you: what do you love about the first Zelda for Gameboy? What really stood out to you when you played it, and what did it do better than any other game in the series? What makes LA great?
Does this include the DX version?
Either way....
Mt. Tamaranch Theme and the first appearance of Roc's Feather. Enough said.
It was the first game to capture the scope of a Zelda game and make it portable, what more could you ask for.
For me, it probably stands as the most surreal Zelda game as well with some of the talk from the villagers.
It's awesome how you can steal things.
Also the first multiple tunes for the ocarina.
they also had some really cool puzzles.
It really is one of the strangest games in the series... It kind of has a sad ending, though, as far as I can remember.
And the shop guy can instantly kill you with magic. That's never happened before. :o
If memory serves the final boss sorta looked like Vaati so this could be the first time vaati was included. Though he was called Nightmare or something.
It was the first game to impart morals to children. Taught you not to steal.
It doesn't help that the guy charges so much for the bow!
Wasn't it also the first to include a long and complex chain of exchanging items?
Also, the bond they create with Marin was very deep for a game at that time.
Oh, and 2D levels and Mario cameos FTW (wasn't it first meant to be a Mario game?)

It was not first meant to be a Mario game, what a strange misconception to have.
DO NOT Gannon Ban me, I am positive I read it somewhere...
Topic...
They had the picture thing. that was fun
I just remembered how well developed Marin's character was.
Through the whole game you get this tidbits of her personality, which play a big role on the sentiment that is brought up in the ending.
/Spoiler If you beat it without dying you get to see her as a gull in the ending credits./spoiler
And the article has been posted! (I haven't said so in past topics, but I'm going to start letting y'all know when I post it from here on out . . . unless I forget to do so. Which is quite likely) Thanks for your help, guys - I got quite a few inspirations from reading what you guys wrote. :)
:( one of your best written articles.
I loved it especially your conveying of the sadness of the ending but the silver lining.
I commend you this worthless gold star for your efforts that are by far some of the best I have ever seen by anyone.
I'm not worthy of such an amazing gift, dear Chuckinator. But if you insist on giving it to me . . . then I will accept it humbly. Thank you, my friend.
