Something about Obama giving the British Prime Minster a box set of classic American movies on DVD as a gift.

The Prime Minister had gotten him an ornate pen holder.

Apparently this is a big freaking deal. I mean, presents are everything.

And he returned the bust of Winston Churchill that was given to us after 9/11.

Also, the DVDs he gave Gordon Brown don't work in England.

gg Obama.

Hillary Clinton also literally gave a "reset button" to Russia as a gift which I assume they got as a gift from Staples and renamed it.

exactly.  I personally think he has bigger things to worry about.

Whether you agree with him or not, he is in office and is in charge of the US.  There really isn't anything you can do about it...

Also, if you could vote but didn't, then you don't really have any right to complain about what the president is doing.  It's why you're not going to see me complain about Obama.  Supposing I paid close attention to politics in the first place.

Why was it uncalled for?

Gordon Brown wouldn't complain, he has got MUCH bigger things to worry about. What with the whole of Britain being in "financial meltdown" and what not. They're even privatising part of Royal Mail =(
Plus he has David Cameron waiting for him to slip up.
I hate David Cameron, or rather, I hate David Cameron's political views.

I hadn't even heard about it, I don't believe we're feeling particuarly snubbed. I'm cool with it.

Not saying it makes him any more or less good as a President, but even you have to agree it wasn't the best idea.

But if you'd like to discuss stuff that does matter, I'm all up for it.

I think it's a lot more practical than a pen holder.

I mean, yeah it's made of some rare stuff. But it's still a pen holder.

I just think the presents are really unimportant in the grand scheme of things. Hitler didn't kill Jews over a DVD box set.

The pen holder was from a ship that was the sister ship of the ship that would later be chopped up to make the desk in the Oval Office.

Obviously, they put a lot of thought into the pen holder.

But the thing most of you don't really seem to be getting is that previous president's have given gifts that have much thought in them, both historically and emotionally (like the pen holder). Obama didn't seem to think at all. (Wait, don't we have people in the gov to stop things like this from happening?)

Additionally, the prime minister was also refused a joint interview with Obama and an official state dinner, long traditions with such meetings.

Good, God Whocares, you're trolling again. The president is extremely busy in this time of crisis, do you think he'll have the time, dedication or energy for any of these pleasantries? Do you really think he didn't give any thought to his gifts? To say that is to completely gloss over what he's doing, what's going through his mind over what needs to be done.

So what if he makes this little error? The man has been in office barely 2 months and you're taking this like he's a bad president already!

Besides, didn't they always say that when one gets a gift, to say "It's the thought that counts"?

Do you think they even care about this small gift? Either party? They've got more important things to worry about, rather than going over this simple little human error. Besides, it's not like Region 2 DVDs are commonly sold in US stores.

Yeah, I'm not even all to serious about this story.

It was a dumb move, but I'm pretty sure the Prime Minister will forgive him if he fixes the economic crisis.

The thing is, when you're a world leader, so many things that don't really seem to be important do matter very much.

I'll ask this again: Aren't there people whose job is to make sure things like this don't happen? Where were they?

I don't know, but whoever they are they probably don't get paid as much as the people in government who do the things that matter more.

America: The country where the only things that matter are the small things.  8)
Wow, people. I really don't see the problem, here. The guy hasn't even been in office for three months yet, and already your tagging him with his trademark "historical event" that he's going to be remembered by. Nixon had Watergate, JFK had that assassination, Clinton had that...uh...scandle, George Bush had 9/11, Katrina, etc., and Obama has a failed attempt to give another country something nice? What is wrong with you people? Where is the sanity? Where is the faith? Where is the tolerance? Seriously, who cares?

Damn, try saying that five times fast.

You're right, though, Havoc. Personally, I hate how anything Obama does, big or small, is turned into a media frenzy. They've never done that for any other president, at least as far as I can remember. Every time you turn on the news, Obama's there, but not for signing a bill or travelling to a foreign nation for diplomatic reasons, but because they put in a new playset at the White House, he doesn't wear a jacket in the Oval Office, or because they finally got a dog.

The point is, none of this stuff is really important. I'm sure the Prime Minister will forgive Obama for giving him DVDs that he can't play (especially if he didn't know any better), but in the meanwhile, I'm more concerned about what Obama's gonna do for our country. If we keep getting hung up about such unimportant things, the big issues will become secondary, and that's typically not a good thing.

I know the president is an important man, but that kind of stuff should be private anyway.  Even Obama is allowed to have a personal life.
