My first time through the game my favorite character was definately Marcus, the Paladin. Paladin's are my favorite class by far, as for magic it's definately sage. The second time through, I focused most of my attacks on Fiora, Fiona, and Florina. Their tri-attack was the greatest. That game was great, just amazingly hard.

The last time I played I made Dorcas Lv 9 and then did Eliwoods story, and started with a Lv 9 Dorcas, hes now a Lv13 Warrior. I did the same with Florina and now in Hectors story I have  all three Falcoknights.I saw screen shots for FE:SS, comes out May 23, there is a dragon p[layeble character.

Beat Hectors story. I hate that level were you can kill Sonia, so hard. Only reason to do it is Jaffar. Why is Nino so weak? its late in the game and you get a weak character!?

Also, who did you use to beat the dragon? I used A thos and Hector to attack and Pent to heal with fortify.

I have Nino as a sage, and she's actually better than Pent! She just takes a bunch of work. I don't like that Sonja level, it's insane, so many enemies and everyone's hard.

Yeah, Athos and Hector, and then after every attack I moved them away... I think that's what you're supposed to do.

I've played it. I never beat it though. My favorite character is Lucius for magic and Lyn for melee.

I am a Fire Emblem freek, I'm stating that right now.  ;)

I find that if you use the low level characters you start with, they level up to be better than the promoted ones you get in the end. After I had played FE7 (first to come out in US) about a dozen times through and found all the secret mission (a real pain -_-), I did the entire first part of the final mission with Legault as a level 20 assassin. What fun! He insta-killed just about everything he attacked.

As far as Sacred Stones go, the time I got it was very convienient. Right before a road trip. Yup, I played three days in a row for at least eight hours at a time. The first time I went through I did Ephraim's story, and didn't do so well. I did finish, but I didn't completely demolish them, as I had so vigorously hoped.

However, I went through it a second time with Eirika's story. Everyone's level 20 with near max stats (yes, I abused the secret shop at the end), and I'm going through the Lagdou ruins a second time, because I forgot to bring my Rogue to pick the chest at the end. Really, really annoying. Here's who I'm using:

-Eirika     -- Great Lord
-Ephraim  -- Great Lord
-Ross       -- Hero
-Amelia     -- General
-Ewan       -- Sage
-Knoll       -- Druid
-Neimi      -- Sniper
-Colm       -- Rogue
-Marisa     -- Assassin
-Joshua    -- Assassin
-Moulder  -- Bishop
-Tethys     -- Dancer

If you give Nino the Afa's Drops, she turns out to be the most powerful unit in the game, if you level her to max. It took me awhile and a lot of planning, but I leveled her that far and then looked at her stats. Every single last one was green except for defense. Out of spite, I had her kill Limstella with no healing and no bard. She took 18 damage and killed her in three turns, without initiating any attack.

I never used Pent, Hawkeye, Athos at the end, or Pent's wife, the sniper who I can't remember the name of, because they were one of those promoted units you get at the end of the game that have terrible stats when compared to your units that are of equal level you had at the start of the game. Although Athos was pretty strong, it just felt a bit like cheating. Sort of like Orlandu in Final Fantasy Tactics, if anyone has ever played that.

The same thing happens in the Sacred Stones. They start you off with a paladin. I never used Seth or Marcus, except as weaponless meat-shields to get lower level units experience, because if I had used them, they would have sucked up all the exp that I would have needed.  ;)

Sorry if this is a monstrously long post, I just have a lot to say about Fire Emblem.

I did the tower of Valni dozens of times with Amelia Ross and Ewan and they are now my best characters except Myrhh, Ross is a Warrior, Amelia is a General and Ewna is a Druid.

Unless you live in japan or you are very lucky you will never play the original, it was only released in Japan. The GCN one is the best English FE game but the Wii FE game(it is confirmed) wil rock.

I don't know who all here plays it but i am a huge FE fan.

JDog the GBA one is not a port for the first one. There is none for DS, at least no confirmed (great idea though) And the one for GCN is the best english version.

What do you mean a port for the first one?

An example of a port is a difeerent version (FF1 for NES's port for GBA, FF1+FF2: Dawn of Souls)

The first fire emblem is Japan exclusive.

What you do is keep beating it untill you get all the unlockable characters then play on hard mode.

My top 10(best-worst)
Boyd
Titania
Stefan
Maurim
Oscar
Kieran
Ike
Tanith
Rolf
Shinon

Oscar always appealed to me (For reasons only people who know me personally like Evilbob would understand) But Titania always ends up at the top end of my most powerful character list. I still think that, as a "bad guy" the black knight is far cooler than the king of Dain, even though the latter is far harder to beat.

the only way to beat the black knight is have ike at lv 20 and he knows aether, then it is all luck and speed

True, or you could just run out of the room and watch him get burried under rubble. But that's the easy way out.

I don't think that counts as beating him though. I've faced him twice and time ran out.
