Me and Rabies were talking about this, Should all pokemon have move just for them, and all pokemon be created equal? Like a lvl100 Blastoise with same stats as a lvl 100 dodrio?
This has the Potential to turn Flamey so if it does I will lock this immediately.
I just think it's worth it to post this as it is a very important subject.
I think the Pokemon series has aimed to make every Pokemon unique since the first versions. In my opinion, it would be nearly impossible to make 450 new moves each exclusive to one pkmn.
As for the stats thing, at lvl 100 they should all add up to the same number, but distributed differently in each pkmn.
Well base stats actually do that, but EV's change that you havve to put effort into training.
Nah, they shouldn't all be equal in terms of stats. Also, there are only 467 moves total. That wouldn't be too fun.
Part of the fun of pokemon is figuring out crazy strategies, and sometimes it can be really surprising.
In my view, this question asks two parts of equality and two parts of inequality.
If all pokemon had unique moves, then it would be unequal. If all Pokemon had the same stats, it would be far too equal.
Besides, it'd be kind of monotonous if you had six pokemon and each had only 1 move.
That;s what I was saying.
That and if you know how they turn out it takes the fun outta raising pokemon.
No real love for them.
No jq, that's not what i meant, i meant like they still had the four move system, but each pokemon had it's own unique move that it learned, like giritina has shadow force.
Not only that you have to remember, DS cards aren't that big, it'd take up a huge amount of space just for that, It's a matter of money.
Everything with nintendo always is.
that's why they didn't need to make so many pokemans, like who really needa a baby form for chansey?
The baby forms give more chance to get the correct EV's.
Reccomended EV's change each time you evolve.
It would be completely ludicrous, in my opinion...from both a programming aspect and a metagame one. No, I'm not flaming anyone, contrary to belief. Just so you guys know. :P
For the former, given the experience making my own RPG, it would take an insane amount of time to create 493+ moves. There'd be the stat determination that would have to be done, as well as creating the animations for the moves. Animating takes a long time as it is, especially if it's done with solely rotoscoping tactics, which I kind of doubt, but still.
For the latter, let me give an analogy: If it's incredibly difficult to completely balance Brawl, which has a roster of 35-39 characters, then it'd be nigh-on impossible to balance a roster of 493 and still keep things unique for each Pokemon. Remember, as said previously, there are natures, general weaknesses, elemental types, EV customization, IVs, innate abilities, and probably others. If one thing is tweaked, then many other things may need to be tweaked to actually balance it out. You could possibly do that with a set accumulated stat base, but I theorize that there's a statistical threshold where if a stat is buffed greatly enough, then any other increase will make the desired effect negligible; after all, if a Pokemon's special moves can get one-hit KOs on someone before an actual buff, buffing the Pokemon's Special Attack would be meaningless. That would end up requiring a nerf to the other stats to balance that one stat out, and if the individual stat buff is negligible, that would be an overall nerf to the Pokemon in question. To actually find a perfect balance between the stats would take an unimaginable amount of time, and only a developed metagame would get remotely close to guide it along accordingly.
If LV100 Pokemon had the exact same stats, too, I'd imagine it would be no more exciting than watching only Meta Knight dittos, which are already rather common, I hear. It would defeat the purpose of having so many Pokemon to begin with other than for the sole sake of collecting them. Not that completely useless Pokemon is a bad thing... But for a metagame as deep as Pokemon's is, it would be a tacky alteration.
Okay, rant over. :P
