You live in Mexico right? If so, how are things with the Swine Flu?
OK, to put in a few words, the country is nearly paralized. There is no tourism, the ships barely stop at the port and the tourists are not allowed to get off them. Every industry that is not part of the core and necessary production of the country has come to a halt. There is no school until May the 6th.
As for the flu itself, the fatal cases have not yet reached 200, I'm not sure of the exact number, but the rate at which cases of swine flu have been reported has slowed considerably, even though there are now reported cases in all the states.
You want my opinion, they are making a mountain out of a mole-hill, the reported cases don't even represent 0.1% of the mexican population. The real problem arose because the ones who were infected at first got confident and thought it was just another outbreak of flu. It can be treated and so far 9 out of 10 cases with complications that are treated have had satisfactory results. There is, however the fact that (proportionally) many who get infected die (my calculations say 1 out of every 20 die, but don't take my word for granted).
I hope this whole paranoia over the flu goes away quickly, I mean, it's not worse than the mad cows. What really worries me is that so far only people of mexican nationality have so far died of the virus.
There you have it, but if you want trustworthy information on the subject, search for the news, because as far as I can see things, I could have been given completely biased information. Really, search for news, recent news.

I'm asking you because the news hasn't been reliable enough... ;)

I'm pretty sure it was a Mexican girl, she was just visiting Texas.
QuoteThe first U.S. death from the outbreak was a Mexico City toddler who traveled to Texas with family and died Monday night at a Houston hospital.

Sounds like a lie to me. They would have closed down the schools and quarantined the kids.
They said that if there was 5 they'd close them down.
I'm not lying okay?
Davy Jones has a point, as soon as the government had notice of any cases, they would close the whole state.
That's just what I heard from my friends, Multiple friends.
<.< Wait close the state? I'm gonna be quarantined in VA?!

I'm not saying you're lying, I'm saying your friend was. The point is that with a "serious" epidemic like swine flu, there's a 5% chance of death, and that's not statistically low enough for them to
not close down the school even if it was
just one case.
I still don't say it's as bad as it seems actually. I'm really just worried about kate.
Rest assured, you'd hear about it all over the news long before you you'd hear it from a friend or two.
...not to mention that I'd be supremely impressed if a disease like that could pass all the way from Mexico to Virginia that quickly.
So it really is 1 in 20...
Yes, that is statiscally very high. Still, there have been relatively few cases of it, althought the virus is practically in the whole world (and I want to mark PRACTICALLY, with this sort of thing you can not have the luxury of biassed info)
There has been worse though...
I mean There are things that are more common with a high moretality rate.
Not as high...
But I now have no Idea what I'm talking about...
If you want to get a good laugh, you should really look up the conspiracy theories surrounding swine flu, some are just wacked out.
I loved that site that Tach posted. I showed my parents and Grandparents.
And favorited it.
And I might read some.
Like pigs taking over the world?
The thing I've heard is that Obama's administration created the virus to only kill mexicans so they can take over land (some Mexicans are still bitter about the whole deal with California, Texas, Arizona, New Mexico and Nevada)
I'd have to Say I would be too, We got us some nice real estate.]
I'll definately check them out. Thanks for the lols.

Dude, even if Kate got it she wouldn't die.
Heck, I don't even think the symptoms would be that bad.
...I think symptoms is the right word...
Not unless she has a bad immune system.
Still, I'm worried cause I'm an overprotective Bf.
Also, Doesn't it, as Tacheon said, Have a pretty high mortality rate?
So does regular influenza.
Then why are they treating this like they are?
It's stupid.
It's better to be safe than sorry, I guess. Right now, not much is known about it, but as of now, if I recall correctly, most of the people who have died from it so far have been people who either have poor health care or are very young (or old). The two-year-old Texan died from it despite better health care, from what I see, but two-year-olds die from regular influenza all the time.
I thought it was like that.
They just need a reason to scare people with the regular flu.
I wouldn't be scared even if I got it. It can be treated fairly easily. A kid in my town got it a couple days ago. I though I had it, I had a rash on my neck, a headache, coughing, so it was more of a fever than a flu.
My mom was the one to cause the public panic. She informed everyone that she thought this was the "plague" spoken of in Revalations. Of course, she made me stay home for like 5-6 days before I finally got her to come to her senses. I've been feeling a little funny lately though... ::)
If the this is a plague, then the normal flue is the plague.
So the little quarantine we were submitted is over now; it doesn't mean the security meassures are over yet, it is actualy quite funny.
So I arrive to school at 6:56 (excellent time ^^) and the first thing I see is a large line of students on each entrance to the building. I get to where a couple of friends are, and, knowing the obvious reason of it, I asked "What did they come up with now?"
"There..." and they point at some guys with a green sticker on their polo shirts skipping the line and entering school. Right before the entrance there was a table with two computers with two of the biology teachers asking questions about the synthoms of the flu, I can't remember them all but these are a few of the ones they asked:
Have you had headaches recently?
Have you had fever?
Have you had stomachache?
Have you sneezed (is this correctly written, TW?) or had congestion?
Are you allergic to anything?
If so, what and etc.
If you answered them correctly (hint: no) they ave you a sticker that you had to wear at all times to stay within the grounds. Personel and students who weren't wearing it... well I don't know what they did then...
...
SOunds like on early onset of like...
The I am legend movies or Resident Evil...
Fine then, if you want to think of it that way, I'll make sure that the last thing I think of before I turn into a zombie is your name and address, then the rest should take care of itself.
Oh, I forgot to mention, no closed windows from now on.
School is almost out, so...
