The Desert Colossus

I'd like to start off by reminding everyone this is a Legend of Zelda forum.

Now that's cleared up, please, please, please stop with the Pokemon. Personally, I hate it, but I don't care if you guys talk about it. But I've honestly had enough of so many pokemon topics when everyone basically ignores the Zelda section. If you'd like to talk about pokemon, go talk about it on a pokemon forum, please. I'm not saying nobody should ever bring it up, I'm simply suggesting you keep it to a bare minimum. I'd have no problem if we actively posted in the Zelda section more than once a week. I'm not angry, just agitated, which is why I'm asking nicely. Thank you in advance.   

If the people who liked pokemon went to my pokemon forum I wouldn't talk about it here.

I've seen at least two topics in General Discussion, and waaaaaayyyyy too many in the chatboard.

I think I may have chosen poor phrasing for my point. Allow me to re-phrase. There are Pokemon topics that get over-attention and are far more active than the actual Zelda section of a Zelda forum. Not to mention conversation in the Chatboard often travels to pokemon in some way, shape, or form.

But I actually have been making topics. Nobody really cares though. In fact I had at least three good, plausible timeline theories this month but didn't post them 'cause I knew nobody would respond.

In all fairness, there hasn't been much more news about Zelda other than Spirit Tracks as of late, so other than any topics of that and the WWZG articles, we can't expect to see really in-depth discussions about it for a little while now. Theories about past games, though, are a great exception to this observation...

On the other hand, if there's discussion about Pokemon in the Chatboard, then so be it. Even if it's just spam, it's what the Chatboard is for. Two GD topics about it may be a little much, however, so if I see them up at the same time in the same forum, I'll just merge them.

The two pokemon Topics that are up are different things.

The platinum one is practically dead, and the news one is just some exciting news.

I'm not really all that Psyched about the new Zelda game, I think nothing can live up to the bar ALttP/OoT set.

Whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa.  This is, first and foremost a Zelda fansite.  For Zelda fans.  These forums are for people with common interests, not for people who aren't allowed to talk about anything but Zelda.  If a topic doesn't receive many posts, then guess what?  It's just not that engaging.  Don't for a second think that just because this is a Zelda site, you're limited to Zelda-related topics.

Now, that said, our Zelda sections are a bit lacking and/or dying right about now, but to be honest they have their ebbs and flows, much like any other section of any other forum.

But if everyone started making many topics across the forums? Changed their sigs to it? Never stopped talking about it in the Chatboard? You know you would at least say something. Just because your allowed to fool around in the CB doesn't mean you have to people.

Simply because topics go awry does not mean they lose all of their merit.  Although I see where you're coming from, I urge you to look at all sides of the situation.

HH, I do see where you're coming from, but you can't force a whole forum to do what you want. Not unless you're an admin. And even if you were an admin, you would have powers to threaten people with but then you'd be abusing your powers and you wouldn't be doing your job right. I do agree with Tacheon, you should look at it from all sides of the situation.

And Pokemon is the only game a lot of us are playing right now. What do you want us to do, stfu about it and not let us have fun?

Maybe if there was a new, good, wifi Zelda game, then yes, we would be talking and posting about it everywhere (like we did about Twilight Princess when I was a n00b here). But Platinum is probably the newest and most fun game we have right now. It's a really great way to interact with the members of TDC, since it has voice chat.

That's quite impossible for me, seeing as I have never truly been on that side of things. However, I see what you mean.

Please try to remember, this not an order, petition, or demand. I'm simply asking nicely if we could cut down on the Pokemon. Not stop talking about completely or ban it from the forums, just don't talk about it more than anything else. Because when you do this, not only are not including people like me (if there's anyone else here who doesn't like pokemon, which I doubt), you are also taking away from other topics by ignoring them.

A prime example of what I mean. How do you think I feel when you say that? I hate pokemon. Yet everyone else on the forums seems to love it, right along with Kingdom Hearts (I'm not even gonna get started with that). When you get into deep conversation about it and constantly say things like that, it gets me very angry. I tried to ignore it but it didn't stop, so I tried to settle it peacefully. The best and most mature approach you can have is to encourage and create topics that are related to things you like.

I hate their lack of any depth whatsoever and their disgusting level of immaturity and sheer stupidity and annoying plot and inclusion of unnecessary things and reusing the same formula and terrible voice acting and yes, popularity, because they're so awful yet everyone loves them.

You've said it in your original post; you don't care if people discuss Pokemon.  We understand.  That's not even a part of the equation anymore.  What, then is troubling you?  The lack of conversation regarding actual Zelda topics compared to the amount of chatter about everything else?  You must understand, if we were so monotonous as to have a quota of conversation and theories regarding Zelda, people would grow bored and leave.  We here at the Desert are a family of sorts, or at least we've grown to be that way, and so it's only natural that we're whimsical and nonsensical most of the time... it's the only way to keep us from killing each other.

None of those! What I was asking people to do was to either put pokemon talk in one place instead of spreading it out everywhere or bring it elsewhere. That hardly sounds like "making myself comfortable at the expense of others" I was trying to let people know that not everyone likes the same exact things they do and that it's wrong to just ignore them. I couldn't care less if nobody looks at my topics. (although I'd probably be a little upset)

To my knowledge, Pokemon chat is only in the General Discussion and Chatboard areas, two places where that kind of chat is encouraged.  It isn't as though we're posting news about Pokemon in the Announcements section.  ^^;;

Pokemon is something, besides Zelda, that many members here have a common interest in.  Telling them to limit their discussion of it is like telling the wind not to blow.  I haven't followed the Pokemon series since Gold and Silver came out, and I do not feel like giving in to the current Pokemon craze (or whatever you want to call it), so that pretty much stops me from being a part of any serious Pokemon conversation.  But I'm okay with that.  Would you rather have a bunch of people ditch this place until Spirit Tracks gets released?  Also, it's not like the few Pokemon topics in GD are redundant.

But why? some people come here to talk about all this stuff because they have noone else to talk to.

I would understand if there were multiple topics about Pokemon, but you can't tell people to stop posting about it just because it's a more popular subject at the moment. They can post about whatever they want, so long as they're not cluttering the board with topics, I suppose.

I mean it's kind of not even a Zelda forum now. Even though we have sections for every Zelda game, They get no posts, whatsoever. I would rather make this a all video game site ( KH, TLoZ, Mario, Pokemon, FF, etc.) It would add new popularity to the site, and I am quite profriecent(sp?) at my Kingdom Hearts.

Honestly, it has been a bit dull around here without Jack (no offense to anyone)...but that was a very long time ago, who knows if it'd still be the same even if Jack WAS still here. It could possibly still be dull. The site was still pretty new then, too. I probably also just think it was not as dull then because the site was new to me, everyone was new to me, and I was also very easily excited back then. I think Gamefreak, Kamikaze (sorry if I spelled his name wrong...XP) and Tacheon work really hard to keep this site going. I don't really want to say anything because I don't want to hurt anyone's feelings or offend anyone, I feel like I am going to, though...

If you hate Pokemon so much, don't post in the Pokemon topics.  It's really that simple.

And if you want the boards to clear out until Spirit Tracks is released, by all means, stop visiting until then.  No one is stopping you; however, I, as well as plenty of others, still wish to use the General Discussion and Chatboard categories that Jack has provided for us for these Zelda dry spells.

I'm not trying to fight a battle! I'm trying to make a treaty! Anyway, the message I was attempting to convey was to try to post more in the Zelda section and not clutter the few Pokemon topics.

I've found that it's more fun to play Zelda. Not talk about it.

When I've found something really important I'll talk Zelda about it.

Meanwhile Pokemon, Being a multiplayer RPG, has a very large amount to talk about, Game mechanics, where to find things, trading, and more.

That's why I don't post in the Zelda topics much.

I just come here to hang out cause the people are cool... Sometimes... Most of the time.

To Mikaudes: I came here back along time ago when Jack was here. It got awards and was one of the top Zelda sites for along time. I think around the time he left, the front page started slowing down and less work was being put into the site. Sorry for the offense.
To Roy: I can say whatever I want. When you say "Okay, who do you think you are FunTykoon?" it looks as if you think you are superior to me. That is a surefire way to get on someone's bad side. Dont make assumptions.
