Yea its called Gamer, Ill get the plot for u:
GAMER is a high-concept action thriller set in a near future when gaming and entertainment have evolved into a terrifying new hybrid. Humans control other humans in mass-scale, multi-player online games: people play people...for keeps. Mind-control technology is widespread, and at the heart of the controversial games is its creator, reclusive billionaire Ken Castle (Michael C. Hall). His latest brainchild, the first-person shooter game "Slayers," allows millions to act out their most savage fantasies online in front of a global audience, using real prisoners as avatars with whom they fight to the death.
Kable (300's Gerard Butler) is the superstar and cult hero of the ultraviolent "Slayers." Kable is controlled by Simon, a young gamer with rock star status who continues to defy all odds by guiding Kable to victory each week. Taken from his family, imprisoned and forced to fight against his will, the modern day gladiator must survive long enough to escape the game to free his family, regain his identity and to save mankind from Castle's ruthless technology.
GAMER stars Gerard Butler (300, THE UGLY TRUTH), Michael C. Hall (Dexter), Amber Valletta (TRANSPORTER 2), John Leguizamo (RIGHTEOUS KILL, ASSAULT ON PRECINCT 13) and Kyra Sedgwick (The Closer).
Game is a near-future action/thriller starring Gerard Butler (Kable) as the champion of an on-line game called "Slayers". Mind-control technology has taken society by storm and "Slayers" allows humans control other humans in mass-scale, multiplayer online game. With his every move tracked by millions, Kable's ultimate challenge becomes regaining his identity and launching an attack on the system that has imprisoned him.
In 2034, mind-control technology has taken society by storm, and a multiplayer on-line game called "Slayers" allows gamers to control human death row prisoners in mass-scale deathmatches. Any inmate who lives through 30 matches wins his freedom. Simon (Logan Lerman) controls Kable (Gerard Butler) the on-line champion of the game having won 27 matches and lived through them all, with his every move tracked by millions, his ultimate challenge becomes regaining his identity and independence by defeating the game's mastermind (Michael C. Hall) through launching an attack on the system that has imprisoned him. [D-Man2010]

woah, man. Learn some grammar and say that again, please?
And why? ha. Methinks it should be good.
because i dont like alice in wonderland haha thats why :P but the new riddick movie sounds promising from what ive read up on
umm... I think I shall have to pass on it.
I want District 9 to hit Mexico already dammit!
Also, Gamer sounds like an interesting concept, but one that musn't be taken too seriously in order to enjoy the movie.
Also there are rumours of a Ghostbusters sequel, could it be true? I'm aso waiting for Toy Story 3, now that it has been confirmed, I can't stay still!
What's Legion? Is it some RPG based movie?
And I didn't know they were making a PotC sequel, not really looking forward to it if they are.
The new live action Alice in Wonderland is Tim Burton, that makes it an automatic win.
Also jdog: GRAMMAR FAIL! The link throwing up bit made no damn sense in the context of this topic.

I have heard from various sources that District 9 was amazing and horrible. sooo... lol.
I've also heard about the PotC 4 movie, and Ive heard it was something about Jack Sparrow searching for the fountain of youth.

The movie ends exactly like that, so you don't need to be Holmes to guess what the new movie would be about.
Also, even though I like all of Burton's works, you can't automatically put your faith on the project. This time I don't a have a good feeling about the movie.
I'm not planning on seeing it simply because it is another Burton-Depp pairing, but because I love, and always have loved, the Wonderland stories. I think it will be rather interesting.

I saw District 9 a few days ago it was incredible. I thought it was one of the best SCI-Fi movies I've ever seen. Well the best one ive seen since independence day that is...
Independence Day was a joke. Much better film: THE FIFTH ELEMENT
District 9 was awesome. It wasn't just the typical alien movie.
Including the director and the estimated time of release in the US:
- Alice in Wonderland (Tim Burton; Mar. 5, 2010) (This is set ten years after her previous adventures in Wonderland, which makes it much more interesting than a straight-forward adaptation.)
- Shutter Island (Martin Scorsese; Oct. 2, 2009) (Scorsese fourth collaboration with Leonardo DiCaprio yet. Do I sense some jealousy, Robert DeNiro?)
- The Tree of Life (Terrence Malick; Dec. 25, 2009) (Terrence Malick is awesome. It stars Sean Penn and Brad Pitt.)

Did he not say he would work on the movie adaptation after his King Kong remake? What happened?
He's working on it. These things take time and he has a buttload of projects on his shelf.
PS: Quit whining.

Big-budget blockbusters take years to make, so I wouldn't line up at movie theatre yet, if I were you.

My sister's husband was telling me the other day that Jackson couldn't get the funding or something like that.
Well perhaps he should try a little harder, because there are at least 30 million Halo fans out there that would have died to see that movie, i know me and my friends where really looking forward to it, and seen how Peter Jackson would have been apart of it, Im sure it would have sold a lot :)

Don't blame Jackson, blame the Studios for not having faith.

Then why in God's name did you say you wouldn't like Inglorious Basterds in the other topic? You made the whole throw up motion.
Idk, it just doesnt look that good to me from the previews, but me and my family might go see it tomorrow anyway just to see if i might like it lol
Most people who like war movies were never even in one.
I'm planning on getting around to see it, eventually. From what I heard, it's not typically Taratino but still very Taratino in style. Also, just so you guys know before you line up to see it, most of it is actually in German and French with subtitles. Of course, subtitles let you read what they're saying, so no worries.
Well I went to see GI Joe actually today, and let me tell you, it was actually really good, some big time actors where in it too Channing Tatum, branden frazer even played 5 minutes of it, Derek Luke was in it, and Dennis Quade was in it. Big actors and good directing usually=awesome movie which this one did. And I see they're already advertising the Avatar: The Last Airbender movie in theaters...at least at the one i go to they where.

There's a difference between an actor and a movie star. Actors act. Movie stars are the center of every weekly news program, get on the cover of major magazines, and appear in movies so studios (and them) get more money. Besides, G.I. Joe seems insultingly pro-war if you ask me.

Well Im Just saying Brad Pitt has had iffy movies, some of them really good, some of them really bad and cheesy.
You mean like every movie star? ::)
So, hey, 9. It looked interesting, so I read up on it on Wikipedia, and it sounds interseting. I'd love to see it, as well as the 2005 short film it's based off of.
Finally saw some movies i was looking forward too :)
Gi Joe
State Of Play
Fighting
Duplicity
all of those are very good movies :) Still waiting for the new star trek, i never got to see that one
I'm bringing back this topic because I have found out that director Terrence Malick's (The Thin Red Line) The Tree of Life, the only movie I had fully planned on going to see this year, has been delayed until 2010. Bummer. :(
Still, director Wes Anderson (The Royal Tenenbaums) has finished Fantastic Mr. Fox, and it will be released in a week, and I might go see it.
Ninja Assasin.
:D
Looks epic.
And Avatar.
Oh yes, Avatar... read a plot synopsis of it, and it seems to me to be a complete and total sci-fi rip-off of Kevin Costner's western Dances with Wolves. Both are about army soldiers injured in the legs from non-contemporary times who are removed from their services and placed off the front lines, and begin to befriend and become integrated into a different peoples, with extreme knowledge and skill at using their almost utopian natural environment, who his own consider unintelligent enemies, falls in love with one of their women, and must decide which he will choose. I'm sure some will consider this a huge coincidence, but they are just so similar that I am very, very suspicious.
There's a recent South Park episode that would agree with you Whocares.
Really? What is it?
Yes, the "Dances With Smurfs" episode. The full episode isn't up on southparkstudios.com right now, but here is a clip of it (http://www.southparkstudios.com/clips/255340) (language). In this episode, Cartman claimed he went to live with the Smurfs and fell in love with Smurfette. Then Wendy killed them them all and stole their Smurfberries.
At the end Wendy says there is already a deal with hollywood to make a movie about that, thus Cartman goes to the theater to find Avatar announced
Yes, thank you whocares for pointing out what everyone already knew 2 weeks ago :P
He didn't. So it's perfectly understandable that he point it out, you know, not everyone has a cartoon as their source of information or as a base for their opinion.
Sorry, JQ. I don't really watch South Park, so I wouldn't know. ::)
I really wanna see The Princess and The Frog. :P
But Avatar also looks pretty epic. I mean, have you seen those effects?! And the story is provoking me to spend $11 on a ticket.

*prays for possible KH fodder*
I'm interested in seeing it (I'll wait until it is on DVD, though). Largely because it is the first Disney film about a princess both African AND American.
I have to say the previews haven't impressed me at all, though...
I've heard nothing but good reviews for it. They call it an "instant classic."
Maybe it will make it into KH.. will Sora be black...? ;)

Avatar does look and sound pretty neat. The Princess and the Frog, though....
(Not that it's counting against the movie.) Frog getting hit by a book: Rated G. Human getting hit by a book: Rated PG.

Did Sora look Chinese in The Land of Dragons? Not really. XD
So, then.
Toy Story 3. Who else is looking forward to it!? 8D
According to Rotten Tomatoes, the number of positive reviews both movies have at this point are:
The Princess and the Frog - 83% (out of 105 reviews) - Consensus: The warmth of traditional Disney animation makes this occasionally lightweight fairy-tale update a lively and captivating confection for the holidays.
Avatar - 86% (out of 58 reviews) - Consensus: It might be more impressive on a technical level than as a piece of storytelling, but Avatar reaffirms James Cameron's singular gift for imaginative, absorbing filmmaking.
In other words, general consensus is that both are good but could have been better.
I wanna see Toy Story 3! I hear Andy is in college in that movie... but it'll probably fall short of expectation. Like TS2 did.
Toy Story 2 made more money than the original, and, according to Rotten Tomatoes, 100% of critics liked it, out of 130 reviews (twice the number the original has, though it was released before the website was founded). If anything, it surpassed expectations.
Yeah, TS2 is considered to be equal, if not better, than the original.
I disagree. Zerg just kinda pissed me off.
I hope, however, TS3 kicks butt. I'd pay whatever price they present for it.

To anyone who hasn't seen Sherlock Holmes and wants to see it, I recommend it. Effects are awesome, the plot is put together real well (if you pay attention), and it has it's thrilling moments.
I was looking forward to the lovely bones
but i got a sneak peak of the full movie via pirated copy
also looking forward to the halo movie directed by Peter Jackson which has in fact been announced!! Its halo(my favorite game series) made into a movie directed by my favorite director(Peter Jackson)....im so excited...also looking forward to whiteout coming out on bluray soon
I thought the Halo movie was canceled. :-\
It could have been uncanceled.
I'd like to see The Lovely Bones as well.
Speaking of video game movies, I read a rumor from a few years ago that Quentin Tarantino was practically begging Valve to let him make a Half-Life movie. Now that would've been awesome.

I also heard that Stephen Spielberg himself wanted to work on a

But still, hearing that
Stephen Spielberg of all people respects the
Zelda series was really awesome for me. ;D
the great Stephen Spielberg and legend of zelda?
gasp
would be epic if he did it....
Not saying Speilberg is bad, but I'd rather have Peter Jackson work on a Zelda movie. Of course, he'd have to team up with Weta Workshop.
Actually, Speilberg or Jackson, Weta has to be involved. They're freaking awesome.
Im also looking forward to the hobbit...For some reason Peter Jackson is doing 2 of them instead of one 1...probably too long of a movie for there to be one part.
Rule #1 of video games: They do NOT make good movies.
Rule #2 of me: Steven Spielberg is overrated.
I read that they are making an underworld 4...now if you guys are like me...your hoping for big things because i am a huge long time fan of the underworld trilogy...they have not let me down yet... and kate is rumored to be in the 4th one :) hopefully its about how she becomes a vampire because bill nighy and michael shean is in it as well and both of them were killed in the first one. but then again bill nighy was brought back to life in the second one...so i guess anything is possible... but thats what im hoping the story line is about because i would like to see a movie about how Selene became a vampire.

Not necessarily; a good video game-based movie just hasn't been made yet. I do think that in general, they're not good movie-making material (far too long and detailed to be condensed that much), but I think that if a competent director who actually wanted to accurately reproduce a game in movie form were given a chance to do so, it could work.
Hitman was pretty good.
Max Payne was GREAT.
Part of me really wants a Metal Gear movie. But part of me is also afraid they wouldn't do it right.
Well, David Hayter (voice of Snake, writer of X2 and co-writer of Watchmen) did write a script for the movie, but Kojima rejected it. Too bad, but I hope Hayter can still come up with a script Kojima can approve.
