Does that basically mean that member is a moderator or an administrator in the Forsaken Fortress, or whatever the mod/admin board is called?
When a member is hidden, it means they've enabled being "hidden" in their personal options. It'll show that there's someone there, but it won't say who it is. You can check it out for yourself by fiddling with your Profile options at the top of the board.
Why would I want people to not see me? That would basically defeat the purpose of coming here.
Well, the fact of the matter is that the option is there for those who would want to use it.
^^ Not really. Making it so that no one can see who the author of a post is, however, would defeat the purpose.
Being hidden is useful if you want to read the forums without anyone knowing you're there.
