Title: Me fail English? That's unpossible!
Post by: Jack on April 11, 2006, 10:39:08 AM
Just a question: most of us here speak English as a first language, right? I think even some of you folks come from the country that invented the language!

Therefore, topic: what is the appeal of typing sentences without proper grammar or spelling? (Eg. lik 4 sure i luv zelda n link). I can see that it's easier, but is there not something to be said for typing like a non-mush mouth?

(I fear this syndrome may be contagious too: TP Zelda used to type normally, but after meeting Medli devolved into a mush mouther herself).

I must say that the only time I mess up with grammar is when my dexterity wavers. or when a really hot chick passes by. Other than that I try to be as correct as I can (even using parenthesis to achieve the effect I desire).

Grammar is probably not even the right words I'm looking for--I mean mostly spelling and capitalization, so one doesn't have to decode what you are typing.

you mean these crazy one-letter abbreviations. I tell you, I remember the good old days when what people said, or typed, meant something.

I get it. and the only problem I have with it is I don't have one. So screw it.

I was kidding.  I have a problem with it; it is lazy, annoying, and hard to read.

Grammar and mechanics don't really come that hard for me, although I do think I am rusty in a few places. Because of that, I think I need to resort to my English book for reference...

Anyway, it's overall not that bad for me. I mean, c'mon! It's not like I use IM slang very much, right...?

Half of the words you just said. I also read a steady that said that typing and reading IM slang for 1 hour lowers your IQ as much as smoking a joint, though temporarily.
