For the past few days, I've been unable to sign in to the PlayStation network. I keep getting this same old DNS error code or whatnot. The suggested fix was to reboot your router. Okay, done, and guess what? I can sign in -- wait, what? A brand-new error code! After a bit of swearing to myself, I looked it up, and I was shocked by what I found: apparently all PS3 Phats have had some bug in their internal clock that caused them to reset to some weird past date (mine's currently December 31, 1999, 4:00 PM or so) and thus are unable to connect to the PlayStation Network and things like trophies are getting messed up. Setting the clocks forward does nothing. Luckily for PS3 Slim owners, their systems don't suffer from this bug, so they can continue to game as normal. Sony is apparently working on this. They better get it fixed soon or they're gonna have one hell of a mess on their hands. As one of the (seemingly many) affected, I'm not exactly pleased.
Here's a thread I discovered though someone on the PlayStation.com forums that explains everything:

My my, that's quite unfortunate. I certainly hope it improves, I know your PS3's your baby. I just hope you can last that long without a fix.
Ours was b0rked but it got better.
I'm happy to report that the bug was only in effect through March 1. Supposedly, the PS3's internal clock thought 2010 was a leap year for some reason, so when March 1 rolled around, it got confused. Now that it's past that date, the date and time can be reset and you can go online as normal. Jubilations!
I have a 80 GB PS3 and I played it during the mentioned time with no bad effects. I guess I just got incredibly lucky.
I guess saying all PS3 Phats were broken was a bit of an exaggeration, but not many were found to be working properly when the whole thing happened. It sounds like yours was indeed one of the lucky unaffected ones, though.
I wonder if this'll happen in another few years?
If it does don't worry too much about it.
It's only one day.
And it's just the online that doesn't work, Our games ran fine on it that day.

If it does, remember that programmers are people, too. ;D
Why was the clock so important and not its separate entity in the system, anyway?
I think it's kinda laughable that such a high-tech console as the PS3 was screwed up in the clock of all things.
I was hearing things about the system's internal clock resetting to January 1st 2000, thus screwing up all the saved data and trophies.
