Just curious. I used to pronounce it "Gear-uh-him", but I heard someone on this one YouTube video pronounce it "Gear-uh-heem". I want to know what you guys say.
Funny that you should say that, since we actually encountered that ourselves on the SandCast at least once. :P
Anyway, most of the times, I hear people use "GEAR-uh-him."
I tend to switch between "Gear-uh-him" and "Gear-uh-heem" much like how I switch between "Deh-koo" tree and "Dee-koo" tree.
This is why Nintendo needs voice acting; so we can know how to pronounce everything.
Right on. Of course, if Link was given the gift of gab, I suppose we'd be stuck with listening to him say stuff like "Well, excuuuuuuuse me, Fie!" and "Gee, it sure is booooring around here!"
Anyway, back on topic.
I looked at it, and first I thought "Feer-ah-heem" (since GH can make a F noise.
But after looking for a bit, I think GEAR-ah-heem is most fitting.
I thought the "gh" sound only made the "f" sound when it was used at the end of certain words like "tough".
End of a word, and after a u. However, it makes a long o in though, so it's one of those "the creators of English were high" sort of deals.
I'm glad I learned English as a baby. ;)
...And I just realized that I used the word high, in which case the gh is completely silent.
...Okay, what gives here?
English is a weird, weird language. I guess we can be grateful that "gh" seems to only make a regular G sound when at the beginning of a word. Makes pronouncing "Ghirahim" that much easier.
