Title: Coast Guard
Post by: Pale Dim on August 27, 2012, 08:00:21 PM
I will be joining the Coast Guard, either within this year or the next. It will not be like I am voluntarily joining the army and getting ready to head off to war. No. I will (most likely) be staying stateside and doing what I can to protect those lost at sea, taking part in evacuations from hurricanes, and basically acting in a military environment without actually taking part in war.

What I'm going to be working as, we are still working that out.

This has been one heck of a year, huh?

Discuss.

Coast Guard?  More like Wimp Guard.

No, but seriously, good luck with that.

Thank you for serving. I don't have any ambition to join any branch of the military. I'm a college guy, I've got the head for bigger picture things :P

Like everyone else, I suppose. Good luck!

And those in the military don't?

I don't know what you're *trying* to say by that, but it sounds rather like you're taking a jab at the intelligence of someone who chooses to serve.

Didn't mean for it to come out like that. I'm just not disciplined enough for the military, nor to I care to be. I don't like being talked down to. I've quit a job because of it, and I'll do it again. I don't care who you are, we're equals. We're made of the same stuff and we live on the same planet. Get over yourself for 5 seconds so you can talk to me like a human being. Now see, that's the kind of thing I would say to a commanding officer.

That's bad.

Instead, I'll take college, and not risk my life. In regards to the Marine life, I never said anything about the marines. I was thinking about joining the army though. That's only because for a while in my life I felt like I had nothing to live for, and rather than be suicidal, I decided to make use of that train of thought, and die for my country instead. Fortunately, I never got that far.

Whatever. Whatever! Unfortunately, ZV, I think you're going to find people who talk down to you no matter where you go. That's the job world. It's inevitable.

So I sent in an online form to the nearest recruiter. Naturally, they gave me a reply. Fortunately, after I have thoroughly researched enough of the Coast Guard, they said I can officially sign up whenever I am ready. Which is good, it allows me to find time to get a driver's licence, plan ahead, and other stuff like that. So I still have some time to get some other details of my life straightened out.

Congrats, and thank you for joining the armed forces to secure our borders. I live right near the water, and you guys are greatly appreciated.

Here's hoping you get to avoid those big battles, though. They ain't...fun experiences, I bet. Still, you get best wishes from me!

If you get stationed on the East Coast (preferably up near New York) you gotta let me know.

Bad news, guys. He got rejected due to Asperger's syndrome.

He'd come and say this himself, but his antivirus is denying him access to the site for reasons both Tach and I are already aware of and should probably rectify ASAP.

I'm back, and get this? I'm going for the Air Force now!!!

I met with the recruiter last Monday, actual face to face, and he had me take a pre test on the ASVAB, blah blah blah....

I have to go back and see him to retake the pre test in December, due to the fact that I didn't do so well on my math as the rest of the test, which, if I may say so, is pretty damn good.

I asked through the "Ask a question" feature they have on their website about Asperger's, and they said it could be a disqualifying factor, BUT...the doctors will decide for themselves. Which is good...

I really do wonder why they test you on math for the Air Force... Like you're really going to want to find the square root of 52 while trying to maneuver your plane. Seems kinda arbitrary to me.

But hey, it sounds good so far. Let us know what happens!

You know what, I wonder that, too. Maybe so you can keep track of how many rounds you fire...But that's the ONLY thing I can think of!

Perhaps, but then that would be just a matter of counting rounds, and they have computer systems for that kind of thing nowadays, I bet.

Or maybe it's because they don't know it themselves and have to rely on their recruits for it. :P
