Title: Termina an island?
Post by: alex on June 02, 2006, 05:21:59 PM
Is Termina an island? in MM if you swim out to Pinnacle Rock you will see that Termina is surrounded by water! does this mean it is and island!? or just a penninsula? If Termina is infact and island is Hyrule on that same island... :o

Termina is a mirror dimension of Hyrule.  It may be possible that Termina is an island, but the only part of Termina we see on the map has one side surrounded by water.  We can only speculate (hmm, I said that somewhere else before).

If you want it to be an island, by all means, make it an island.  I'm just saying that it's possible.  MM doesn't give us enough clues to the true nature of Termina.  Maybe if Nintendo were to have another game that took place in Termina, we could learn more.

Yeah, most likely; at least more likely than not. However, until then, I'm willing to say that it's a peninsula. Look at the Northern Mountains. I believe that it's connected to some other kind of continent or country (possibly Hyrule, but I doubt it), but there's probably some kind of tectonic fault there that's probably pushing Termina into the larger body of land, creating the mountains.

But that's just me.

If your joking, you might want to say so know.  You're making it look like an attack on a member, which isn't allowed here.  And I'd say it's about time we get back on topic.

To me it looks more like the coastline of a bigger continent rather than an island itself. Personally i don't think Termina is a parallel world of Hyrule at all I mean what evidence is there? Some characters share similar names and personalities...big woop that is hardly enough reason to support the widespread belief that it has become.
Also as one of the articles on this very site explains  in WW Phantom Ganon's sword bears the markings of the smithies of Termina, to me this is more than enough evidence that it is a real place.

<EDIT: spelling error>>

I think Nintendo stated that Termina was a parallel world themselves.

I think he learns it; he's not an idiot.  And I think that the Happy Mask Salesman knows of Hyrule and visits there sometimes.  We don't see him as an adult in OoT.  And I think Skull Kid can also travel between Hyrule and Termina; he is in Hyrule at the start of MM, but lives in Termina.

The MM manual says that Termina is a "kind of parallel world that is similar and yet different to the land of Hyrule."
Now NoA has been horrible with translation in the past, the fact that it says kind of parallel suggests it isn't parallel in the traditional sense, but it is in that they share certain qualities, it is not necesseraliy on a seperate dimensional plane.

Only when they arn't too confusing, then they go all strange and irritating and you forget which version of each character is which. When they reach 25 seperate alternative universes I just blank out.  :-X

Now that you mention parallel universes, I love them.  That theory helps explain why I can write all my fanfics. ;D :) :D

Of course, it would be confusing to think of Termina as a parallel universe that shares a border with the country of Hyrule.

I don't think Terminas connected to Hyrule. You would have to be on the opposite side of the planet not to see the moon falling. And I don't think Terminas an island. You could use the trick where you keep using ice arrows to verify if it's an island, though.

Termina appears to be a mirror world to Hyrule and the planet Hyrule's on.

Also, techniqually it is an island, because it is part of a large continent or group of continents surrounded by water, just like the Americas and Europe/Asia/Africa are.

Not to sound rude or anything, but if you want to get that scientific then it need not be the case. The "ocean" in the west could be a large inland sea and most of the planet is land.

That's what you get for being too literal. ;D

You should hire a few Takuri (they are fearsome, espacialy since I have no clue how to spell it).
I wish there was a site where you could send in questions to Nintendo about the story line of their games so we could clear up these things.
